Persian Saffron

Let me just start by saying.... Wow!!! This fragrance is an absolute wet dream for me, a perfect storm of notes character and power. I will also start by saying that the notes listed here don’t accurately portray what I smell so I’ll tell you what they are shall I? A show stopping saffron note, brutal, raw and unforgiving if you don’t dig saffron, but thankfully it’s one of my favourite notes and frankly as potent and prominent as it is comes off, this is more oriental and amber like. It Does have the rough,earthy, sharpeness obviously but it’s not nearly as saffrony as MFK Oud or even that Aramis saffron one that’s not to say I don’t think this has equal merit to those two excellent fragrances because it does. The saffron is joined by a really, curried spice of cumin/caraway but even more complex than that, it dances to and fro almost animal in nature. The drydown is curious because then it develops an intensely resinous, woody smell with a subdued note of rose reminiscent of an oud/rose perfume. It’s quite stunning, projects massively almost intrusively so when first applied but persian saffron is intriguing, unique, spicy and deep I love it! Do I like it enough to shell out £120? Yeah I think I do!

Nose burning strong Saffron, in a nice, bold way. One of the most potent scents I've ever tried. The saffron in this smells very authentic, almost as if smelling a jar of real saffron in the kitchen, there's a slight rose nuance, and a subtle freshness, but it's just faint in the background, the saffron is at the centre stage and remains on skin throughout giving a very windy, dusty, hot desert like vibe similar to probably the streets and atmosphere mentioned in it's name, Persia (present day Iran) in a sense. A very true to style and high quality scent, it's a shame that this has become so hard to acquire these days. To me, personally it's an 8/10

Super strong, absolutely unapologetic saffron - a VERY hard note to do well - over a very serviceable backdrop of spice and wood. I get an impression of quite a lot of mid-tanned, slightly sour leather underneath, but that might be an illusion created by a mix of citrus and sandalwood, I guess. It reminded me strongly of Guerlain Santal Royal, but with much less rose and a deep-amber throb of saffron thoughout. Here the saffron is unmistakeably savoury, not sweet, but always right there centre stage and without any of the earthy-dirtiness which can turn some people off it. Perfectly balanced on the male-female spectrum, a true unisex, and between sweet and spicy. Absolutely solid performance as well; confident projection, decent sillage, lasts up to 6-7h as a detectable skin scent and for a little longer on fabric. Opulent - maybe even royal - in feel and not unreasonably priced for what it does. Genuinely delicious but not remotely gourmand. I'm not totally bowled over by it - and can't think why? - but it absolutely deserves respect. Definitely one of the most robust and un-frustrating saffron scents I've ever tried, though - the only other one I know which is as deeply and persistently imbued with the spice is L'Artisan's Safran Troublant, which is a vastly more femme and powder-sweet treatment of the theme. So, if you're on the trail of a truly unisex, upscale saffron, my advice would be - go to Persia with Zegna!

So much to love about this! Goes on almost sour. Fifteen to twenty minutes later it morphs into the nicest, mellowest, warmest blend of saffron, spices and MORE saffron I've ever smelled. Bravo Zegna! This is all low volume, understated class that radiates for miles and leaves a soft trail for several hours. The vibe is “I’m probably well off, I’m definitely classy, and I’m not even really trying”. Not a scent to wear anywhere you might have to do anything that would involve breaking a sweat. This is all about being laid back and sophisticated. A perfect match for a crisp day. And go light on the trigger. Believe me, it is radiating even if you can’t tell. And like any saffron fragrance, there is a hair thin line between smelling beautiful and smelling dirty. A 4 out of 5 across the board!

Wow! A cracking unisex scent that perhaps leans a touch towards the masculine. A strong opening but once settled it's a wonderful saffron leather scent. Its not an obvious citrus opening but strangely becomes more evident over the next hour. I agree about being a slightly sour opening but that's gone very quickly. I have to say that I don't find it very spice. The stars are first saffron followed shortly but leather. Good longevity and sillage although the sillage retracts quite a bit after an hour. I already have Saffron Byzantium and find that a touch more feminine and easier for me to wear so no fb. To be honest I would not pay the RRP.
