Uomo

This is my signature fragrance for the spring and summer months. In fact I'm tempted to wear it sometimes during the fall and winter if it's sunny because I enjoy this one so much. I can certainly see why there'd be some negativity and distaste for this one. I'm seeing some contrasts with Acqua Di Gio which I can understand, among other aquatics and some reviews that say it's "generic". Eh, maybe, but at the end of their day to each their own as I find Uomo to be a very pleasant fresh, masculine and classy scent. My review is probably a bit biased because my collection has stopped at 20 colognes so I really haven't smelled all there is to smell, so my ability to compare to all these other colognes people are mentioning (L'Homme Libre, Bvlgari Man, etc.) is much more limited. So that being said, knowing my basis for contrasting is smaller than most reviewers here, I adore Uomo and have received many a compliment on it. Uomo starts with a citrusy blast but I get a lot of the violet leaves in that initial spray. I find with Uomo it doesn't take long until the vetiver and cedar come through to round it off. Once this happens Uomo smells incredible; fresh, clean, and sensual on a fragrance that has the perfect amount of understated. I will say even in my love for it that Uomo is linear. Once those other notes come in, Uomo sort of stays that way. I'm a sucker for vetiver and cedar though so that's part of the reason I think I like this cologne so much; it has predominant notes that happen to be personal favorites. The performance seems to be okay. I have colognes that perform better and I have ones that perform worse. I get around four to five hours with this one. I also paid a pretty low price for a 3.4 oz. bottle ($40) so I don't think I'm too justified in complaining. At the end of the day, Uomo's note combination shot it up to one of my absolute favorites. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it does its job well.

For the first 15-20 seconds, there is a pretty strong alcohol smell which dissipates quickly to give rise to the invigorating combo of bitter citrus and prickly,verdant violet leaf.I get dusty,dry wafts of vetiver at this stage if the fragrance catches my nose just right. 20-30 minutes later, the edges round out on the citrus and violet leaf, and I'm left with the heart. ryanmmas26 described this stage best "cucumber salad with a soft dressing". Cucumbers coated in a bitter citrusy-sumac dressing. Impressions of black pepper come and go from this point on, I guess the dryness of the vetiver, the scent of cedar, and the herbal components of violet leaf blend together to create these impressions. This phase softens even further after about an hour and a half, at which point I smell a slightly cucumber-aquatic vetiver chord laid on top of a very,very mildly sweet cedar. This skin scent lingers for a couple hours as all aquatic notes progressively disappear from the cedar-vetiver base. A solid scent for hotter days. Clean and refreshing, helps me focus, and I feel it would layer well with other fragrances.It lasts 4-5 hours on my skin. I'm not good at accurately gauging projection and sillage, but I don't catch too many whiffs of this without smelling my arm or shirt. I use 3 sprays and can't imagine this would annoy many people if I'm respecting their personal space lol. I'm not a big projection-seeker cause I know the sense of smell is incredibly personal and I could unknowingly cause a negative scent memory in someone, so this soft projection doesn't bother me This fragrance is an 8/10 for me.The performance may sound terrible to you, but keep in mind that in my mind I am framing it as a long lasting cologne-style fragrance, not a poorly performing EdT. For 12 dollars at Marshall's, I will definitely buy a second bottle of this. I would pay 30-40 dollars for this and not be disappointed at all

If you collect aquatics this should be in your collection. Very refreshing not too sweet and not too citrusy. My wife loves this cologne from my summer collection. I often get compliments from this cologne sometimes from friends and family's and sometimes from strangers. I can also say that this one is unique from my aquatic collection. NOT just another Aqua Di Gio. Update: 1/8/2013 I just moved from San Francisco to Manila. I am really happy with this cologne, because I can wear this now all year round due to the tropical weather here in the Philippines. This aquatic is very well balanced unlike other aquatics that are too citrusy, too sweet, too light, too floral etc. The hotter and warmer the weather gets, the better it gets. I am surprised that this one is not too popular, but I would like to keep it that way because this makes us more unpredictable and unique to other people I don't want it to be like Aqua di Gio, Polo Blue, or D&G Light Blue. Most people already knows how those colognes smells which makes it boring for me. THIS IS A BUY!!! Great summer cologne for years to come. UPDATE: 12/8/14 I have had this for 1 year now and I'm still happy with it. I still get compliments from it and most importantly, my wife still loves it on me. Let me try to break it down for you guys in a few words. The initial smell is the sweet violet with a little citrus. The sweetness and citrus is well balanced and not overpowering each other. Then after a few minutes you'll start to smell the woodiness from cedar and that wet earth smell from the vetiver. This is a very minimalistic cologne and you could smell all of the 5 or 6 notes that they have used. Worth a try if you love vetiver, because they did a great job mixing the vetiver with sweet violet, very little citrus and wood notes from the cedar. My overall rating is 8.5/10 Updated overall rating 9/10 for well balance and uniqueness.

so last night I was here on Fragrantica looking at some notes before completing my next purchase and from the corner of my eye I saw that someone did a review for YSL L'Homme Libre And in the similarity/comparable section I saw that 20 people belived that Uomo was close to YSL Libre Tonic and about the same number compared to YSL Libre Went Shoppers Drug Mart to buy some Nivea Soft lotion to use in this crazy heat wave that we have now in Montreal and in 19.99$ section saw a bottle of Uomo. YSL l'Homme Libre is in my TOP 5 from this house I went thru 4 100ml bottles, have 1 with about 20ml left and 1 full 100ml that I'm keeping for someday when I'll be older. so for 19.99$ this was a no brainer let me telle you I'M IN LOVE WITH IT this is a 90%/95% clone I can't pin-point the difference yet but only true YSL lovers would be able to smell the difference and even if they could they won't be able to say if it's YSL or Uomo that you are wearing since skin chemistry affects the fragrance and that the same fragrance from the same bottle won't smell the same on two people results price:10/10 (this was 19.99$CAD) scent:10/10 (since I adore YSLLibre if not:solid 7/10) projection: 7/10 arms length longevity: too soon to tell but sprayed this 2hrs ago and it's not fading yet. temperature is about 35C in Montreal at the moment usage: spring, summer (not too hot/humid), year-round indoors where: everywhere ** I can't comment the comparison to YSL Libre Tonic since I never owned it

From the first sniff, I was in love. To me, this kind of has a similar personality to Nautica Voyage, at least at the beginning. Don't mistake that as me calling it a clone. This is aquatic, without any aquatic notes. This get ZERO hype, and I don't understand why. Sure, its performance is not great. 5 hours maybe in longevity and silage that does off after an hour. But when this is fresh, to me, not much beats it in the price point scent wise. Citruses are huge up front. This is well, very well blended with the violet which throws my nose off for aquatic. This holds for the first hour or so when the mid kicks in. The mid gives you the floral note from the violet and the citrus has calmed but still delivers its sweetness. When you hit the base, about two to 3 hours in, you will start to get whiffs of the vetiver and the cedar even though they are faint. The violet still holds on at the base, but it's far weaker. As stated above, this starts off like Nautica Voyage but it finishes beautifully like a Guerlain L'eau Boisse. For $20 it smells of much higher quality, to me. It isn't linear so you won't get bored. And the opening is intoxicating. If you are reading this while standing at TJ Maxx, just buy it. Really, do yourself a favor, buy it. Unique summer freshy that nobody else is going to be wearing.

The opening is primarily ozonic and citric, conjuring up that atmospheric sensation just after a lightning storm. This can also come across as freshly cut cucumber at times. I also get a background woodiness in the opening that sweetens as the opening fades. I really enjoy it, but it is short lived for me. I get 10-45 min max before the opening fades completely at which point I get an intermission where I don't smell much of anything for a while. After the intermission the most fantastically addictive violet leaf begins to come through. I get this violet leaf for about 8 hours. It sits close to the skin, but if I wear it on the back of my neck I get wafts of it in the breeze. I love the effect. Edit: I wore this quite a bit in the heat of the summer, and outdoors when I wrote this. Since I have worn this in cooler conditions, and also indoors where climate is predictable. In cooler conditions, and climate controlled conditions the scent is a lot more linear. The citrus in the opening sticks around, and I get a few hours before it really fades and becomes a skin scent. I also don't get that isolated violet leaf later in the dry down.

I tested before blind buying. But I didn't need to. I don't have many citrus fragrances (I've given away a lot of them). When I was younger I would have detested this stuff. Now, in my 30's I appreciate that the citrus and violet in Uomo is very well blended - to the point that I don't notice the transition to cedar or vetiver which does happen, however, maintaining citrus and violet throughout. I would draw no similarities to bvlgari aqva - no ocean accord; nor to farenheit. I wouldn't even tie it to many citrus scents I wear (givenchy play sport; aqua farenheit) except maybe a slight similarity to versace pour homme. I was fearful from the comments/reviews here that this would indeed smell like aqua farenheit but not.at.all. Middle notes will give a strong shout out to Bvlgari Man on my skin, but where I find Bvlgari Man Dry and distancing, this one is warm and inviting. Base notes will have a sweet violet note lingering on your clothes and skin. Sorry to all who don't enjoy this - for me it's a love...a very romantic love; I could wear this all the time and will likely travel with it from now because it's very uplifting.

Pretty simple and linear fragrance, but man is it fresh. Strong violet leaf and lots of citruses supported by just enough vetiver. It's just really bright and uplifting without being synthetic or "shower gel" ish. I wouldn't call it aquatic either. Performance is about what you'd expect: about an hour of projection and then 5-6 hours of sillage after that. This is a fragrance you can spray a lot of without it becoming too cloying, so that's a bonus. I can see why the more experienced nose would call this generic. It isn't challenging whatsoever. It is, however, very pleasing and versatile, and if you love fresh fragrances like I do, you're going to want to give this one a sniff for the price it's going for. Oh, and as an aside: the presentation is terrific. Very nice-looking bottle with a cap that fits snugly. It looks classy!

All I can say is "wow"! I like this stuff. The notes may not be anything unique but what I do find unique is how they develope. I have not experienced anything quite like it. It opens as a fresh green foresty smell and then evolves into a blue citrusy aquatic similar to L'eau D'Issey. I find the sillage and longevity to be in the average/moderate range going a good 3 to 4 hours at least. I get good whiffs of the spray I put on my shirt for quite some time and every time it hits my nostrils I am whisked away to the beach for brief moment only to be jolted back to reality when my boss knocks me in the head and asks "where the hell were you?!". Patience, my son, patience, I tell myself. My real day at the beach is only but a month away. In the meantime I have Uomo to take me there!

A solid frag. Unlike other fragrances (Calvin Klein Man and Lalique Hommage a L'Homme for example) the violet is not dominant as to cover the other notes or make the total smell overpowering. Combined with citruses and vetiver gives a clean and breezy result. Masculine and versatile at the same time it can be worn easily in any casual situation on spring and summer. I would prefer better longevity and projection. After 5 hours it is difficult almost to detect it. Overall Zegna Uomo despite that is simple and a little bit generic, it deserves a place in a summer collection especially considering also the great price (20 € for 100 ml).

My skin is a type of that 'drinks' perfume. Usually only last about 4-6 hours including those that are well known for its 'insane' longevity like YSL Kouros and La Nuit,Encre Noire, Eau Savage (to name a few). Well this one is another story. Can last 8-12 hours on me so this is definitely not too weak as some say. It is actually depends on your skin so sample first. Love the smell especially the vetiver as it is most prominent from MPOV. Maybe not as light years away as Encre Noire (really weak on my skin) as some say, but it is sophisticated enough. Good job Alberto Morillas!

I remember picking this up at TJ Maxx several years ago for around $25. Liked it so much, I went back and picked up several bottles as backups. At one point, I was looking for something to replace my YSL Libre that had been discontinued. A very good replacement, in fact, it was a bit longer lasting and it just pumped off my skin. Down to my last open bottle and one sealed bottle. I found a newer bottle style at a Cosmetics Company location at a nearby outlet mall, very watered down compared to the taller bottles with ridges that I have.

Uomo Zegna is a fresh and very pleasant fragrance with citrus and woody notes. Its aroma is not unique, but it is pleasant enough and easy to use, and it is also possible to find it at a very affordable price that you can not ask for more. It is a fragrance that can be used in any situation and at any time of year, in other words versatile. As several reviewers has mentioned, it share some characteristics with L'Homme Libre and Aqua Fahrenheit, due to the use of violet, citrus and vetiver leaves, but these two are already discontinued.

A woman's view: I have rarely had the pleasure of a man smelling so good that it makes me want to bury my face in his chest and neck, forever. The violet leaf is surprising and oh so sexy, it's subtle and alluring. I like that the sillage isn't across the room trying to snag any female in a 20 foot radius. I am enfolded in it when we get close. It's like a secret he's wearing for only me and I want to extend our embrace to continue enjoying it. This is my favorite scent for a man I've encountered so far. It's a definite win!

I couldn't disagree more with MrBolton (whose reviews I enjoy ). I don't find this synthetic in the slightest. In fact, I'm blown away by the quality of all of the notes but the violet in particular. It's incredibly beautiful. The original ad copy mentions proprietary bergamot from Zegna's own fields and a unique violet leaf essence and the thing is I believe them because I've never smelled a violet note quite like this. I think this might be the best value in men's fragrance right now. Works both casual and office.

I LOVE this scent. In the best way possible, reminds me of the scent of violet candies, but in a grown up professional way that gets compliments. It has a dryness to it that I am constantly searching for in fragrances. That may be powder from the violet, but it is NOT reminiscent of baby powder. It is rather powerful but not too strong; 1 spray lasts forever on my skin but it is not cloying or sickening. Fades into a more relaxed barbershop style, but keeps the violet.

This fragrance, is a fond one for me. I would say that this was one of two fragrances that started my journey into the fragrance world. I would steal sprays of the summer of my junior year of highschool whenever I went out. It got me compliments wherever I was. Its generic and mass appealing, you could even say simple. But thats the charm of it. Shame it got discontinued, when it was 20 dollars on amazon it was a monster. Now I use this as a fresh gym fragrance. -D

I tested all of the 2013 releases from Polo Givenchy Fendi Versace etc.. and to me none of these are really bad scents, although some may say their boring.. well to each their own..But this one really jumped off the paper, then when I sprayed it on my arm and sniffed it my nose sparkled, I could not inhale enough of this.. that violet vetiver mix is soo well done, with just enough of the bergamont and rich citrus to ring in the cedar.. Now thats Italian....

Bought it last week. Very Strong start, just 2 sprays on my chest and that ́s it, the smell comes out: very pleasant aroma, very fresh, sober and masculine. This is a very good option for the office. After the 3 hrs the sillage comes down but it is ok, it still good. Agree, this perfume smells very similar to HOMME Libre by YSL. The price is so good: A set with two bottles (3.4oz and 1oz) in $36.00 I very recommend this aroma.

Spraying this with escentric molecules escentric 01 makes a even fresher watermelon type smell. Must be the violettyne in here mixing with whatever in escentric 01 and going from a spicy cucumbery violet to a more rounded watermelony fresh accord. Usually I am not for layering but this is cool, I was getting bored of Zegna Uomo and doing this breathes some life into our relationship , and I’ve been feeding your animals
