Z Zegna Shanghai

Lovely,well made,long lasting fragrance. The sillage is heavenly,the projection is strong but not abrasive. Because of the nature of the scent,you get to enjoy a stellar performance for the WHOLE DAY,without offending anyone around. I love it!! Try it... I will wear Zegna New York next.

Mostly, I get an attractive violet from this very safe metrosexual scent, but I don't get the connection with Shanghai. Good quality ingredients (high-end designer quality if not quite niche) with good longevity and moderate sillage on my skin. It reminds me a lot of the violet leaf laden Carven Pour Homme tempered with the smooth spiciness of Cerruti 1881 Sport, and I reckon it's the most elegant and versatile of the 3 in the cities collection and would suit all seasons. I hesitate to recommend it though, as I suspect its linearity would get boring with repeated use. Watch out too for the silver spraypaint on the bottle as I've seen some bottles with a less than exemplary finish.

This is a great fragrance for the price I paid. It's not that similar, but it occupies the space in my collection left by D&G Pour Homme 1994. Woody with a hint of citrus from the cardamom. It's similar enough and much better than the reformulation of that once great fragrance. Great performance too. I can't stop smelling it! Edit: two years later, a colleague told me it sells like Lynx/Axe body spray. Now it's all I can smell. :(

Just got this in the mail as a blind-buy. Was thrown for a loop..."Did I JUST buy this?" It's like 99% Mont Blanc Emblem which I got a month earlier. Meanwhile, since MBE came out 2.5 yrs earlier, it was the original...you've been shanghaied alright, LOL. Both also have violet & cardamom. This smells cheaper though and isn't as powerful. Glad I only got the 50ml. Milan is miles better.

Would make a safe office scent...I will wear Ermenegildo Zegna Z Zegna Shanghai for men.The sillage is also heavenly.

I blind bought this, because I love the notes, but after smelling it I so wish I hadn't purchased it. I don't like this scent at all. It doesn't really smell anything like the mentioned notes. I can't smell the lovely cardamom, there's no trace of violet in here, but there might be a tiny touch of guaiac. The thing is it doesn't highlight the unique guaiac personality, which usually is warm and slightly smoky. Shanghai just has that general, average, unspecific woody smell. This is a totally mediocre, boring, slightly woody, slightly vanillic, sweet-ish, slightly fresh-out-of-the-shower type scent. It leans a little aquatic. We've smelled this thing so many times now. Shanghai is nothing new. It has that (yes, I'm going to say it) generic, synthetic "masculine" smell that so many designer scents marketed towards men have. It's a scent I don't like. It feels cheap and predictable. I associate this type of smell with selfesteem issues and men having insecurities with their masculinity - like their trying to hard to fit in, be accepted and be perceived as masculine. (If you're a man, you don't have to make an effort to be masculine, you already are. So chill.) I'm very disappointed! This is just not a very flattering scent in my opinion. It's too cliché to be flattering. Longevity is pretty decent, it has lasted about 6 hours on my skin so far, and still going strong. Sillage is a strong medium right away, but it dries down to a soft medium.

It’s generic, I’ve smelt it before, somewhere. Would make a safe office scent, no one is going to get offended by it. Not bottle worthy for me though. Reminds me of Dylan Blue.

This is a woody spicy fragrance.. smells just ok.. i dont really like it.. simple non offensive but to me not very nice smelling.. not sure why.. the composition although very simple i find its not very well blended.. i dont recommend blind buy..

This reminds me very much of Panama by Borsalino, checking the notes it is probably the violet. It is a rich woody violet. I picked up a 100ml bottle for $10, which was a bargain.
