Iris Milk

I absolutely adore this scent. I usually wear what I term “sad Victorian flowers,” including Tears and Nosferatu. This smells, to me, like a lactonic and powdery relative of Nosferatu. It opens with a very strong blast of iris, which was almost green smelling. But, on my skin, it quickly dried into the most glorious sweet, floral powder. There’s velvety iris and lilac, the whisper of vanilla, and a soft lactonic base that doesn’t go sour. I liked it more and more as it dried. There’s something soft, almost melancholy, about it that will have me coming back for more!

This was the one I was most excited to try from the sample set. I was excited for it because it looks very similar to one of my all time, if not my all time favorite fragrance (Eau de Lingerie -Guerlain, an absolute masterpiece that smells like the clouds of heaven). I am aware this fragrance is synthetic-free, and will smell different compared to conventional perfumes. The initial spray almost smelled herbaceous and I was not getting any of the sweet lactonic notes promised. After it dries down, the iris starts to come out and it smells quite nice, but the vanillic accords remain in the distant background. I like it overall though, after it dries down of course. Iris is probably my favorite note in perfumery and I have smelled quite a few iris-forward scents, this one is one of the better ones for sure, and definitely the best all-natural iris perfume I've come across so far.

I had no business buying this because I honestly cannot stand iris, tuberose or anything similar. But I’m a sucker for anything titled “milk”. I feel that the Iris kind of kicks you in the face when you first spray this. I ended up returning it, but I will say the dry down was absolutely magnificent and I’m wondering if the brand has the “milk” aspect in any of the other perfumes on its own. The scent lasted over a week on my clothes in a subtle but still noticeable way. Also nice that it’s organic and not endocrine disrupting.
