Escentric Molecules Escentric 05 opens with a strong projection of woody, green citrus, and spicy notes. The opening is very aromatic, well-balanced, unique, and very pleasant. The bergamot and orange come up for a brief moment, the bergamot is more noticeable than the orange. The cypress, cashmeran, and juniper are the most noticeable woody green accords, but they are not alone, the fig leaf contributes with more a green foliage-like touch. The resulting green note has a resemblance to vetiver and patchouli. The ambroxan contributes to the fragrance with a projecting and musky lemony touch; the ISO E-Super is also noticeable, a woody fresh green cedar-like note. The basil and rosemary add a soft spicy touch. The rest of the notes are there to support, specifically projection. The floral notes are a faint touch in the background. The fragrance has a very subtle opening to dry-down change, the opening is very sharp, this because the effect of the bergamot, however, as this note loses some intensity, the ambroxan joins with a lemon-like musky touch; also, the iris contributes a faint powdery touch, finally, the initial strong projection takes one step down to moderate. Once Escentric Molecules 05 EDT has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, woody green (cashmeran, juniper, cypress, ISO E-Super), and musky citrusy (ambroxan) fragrance with spicy and faint floral accords. The fragrance feels dry, earthy, elegant, energizing, formal, fresh, green, herbaceous, masculine, mature, modern, citrus musky with a faint powdery touch, sour, versatile, woody, and pleasant. Cartier Declaration Essence is a great natural vetiver fragrance, soft woody, citrus, floral, and spicy fragrance; Terre D’Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver is a vetiver fragrance with a strong classy or school-vibe; Chanel Pour Monsieur is a musky, vetiver and citrus fragrance, classy, old-school, ideal for work environments; Bentley Infinity Rush is a great sweet orange, vetiver, spicy, woody, and soft musky fragrance; Montale Vetiver Patchouli is a fantastic, cedar-like, vetiver, patchouli, and spicy fragrance; Montale Red Vetiver is a great vetiver and cedar fragrance; Escentric Molecules 05 EDT is a good, woody green juniper, cypress, ISO E-Super, and musky citrusy ambroxan fragrance. SUMMARY: A moderate projection, woody green (cashmeran, juniper, cypress, ISO E-Super), and musky citrusy (ambroxan) fragrance with spicy and faint floral accords. I think I want this. I tested both Molecule 05 and Escentric 05 on paper today, and it was a totally fascinating experience. I thought Escentric 05 started out pleasant enough. Citrusy, but nothing too special. I recently got myself Escentric 02, and compared to that one I didn't find it quite as good or unique. I didn't seem to be able to pick out any cashmeran at that point. At least, I could not pick up the note that I was smelling on the other piece of paper with Molecule 05 on it. The opening of that one (Molecule 05) smelled like wet wood, mysterious and fascinating. But that phase didn't last long! Within a minute or two it suddenly turned into something like wet earth, and while I wasn't quite repulsed, I was thinking if the drydown was going to smell like that, I really wasn't sure why anyone would want to smell like damp soil. So at this point I'm thinking Escentric 05 is nice but not all that interesting, and Molecule 05 starts out nice but then turns to something disappointing, and I put both papers away. Some 15 to 30 minutes later I smell them again and at this point Escentric 05 stills smells citrusy, only the scent has faded somewhat. I do seem to pick up some faint cashmeran, it's not unpleasant, it seems to be that woody aspect of the smell, not the dirt-like aspect, but it's faint. Molecule 05 on the other hand has now turned once again, having transitioned from the damp soil-like phase back to the wood-like phase, but this time it's much more cosy and aromatic, faintly sweet. Another half hour later Molecule 05 has now settled in that lovely cosy wood-like phase and Escentric 05 now smells almost exactly the same. Mostly cashmeran, warm and comforting, there's a slight difference because there seems to be something faintly floral as well, but it's really mostly cashmeran. I'm thinking I want this, because to me it seems like you'll have that lovely drydown with lots of cashmeran, but you won't have to go through that crazy transition that Molecule 05 does at the beginning. I tested a number of fragrances today and at the end of the day the drydown of these two really stood out the most, by far. I'm just really loving that drydown. Absolutely fascinating. I will have to test both of them out on skin to be sure. It might be very different, because well, it usually is.

(Update on my review below) I can't believe this one hasn't got more reviews! It's a MAGNIFICENT fragrance! So after testing this out on paper, I tested this on skin, and maaaaaaaan! I should have done that right away. It really is a whole other experience! I take back everything I said about the opening being not all that interesting. It's gorgeous on skin, it really is. You absolutely can't judge this from paper. I get lovely citruses, juniper, rosemary, something sweet (I'm guessing it's the fig!). The cashmeran is there in the background, right from the start. It really is the star of the show, it just gets more prominent as time goes by. The Cypress joins in, it's all so daaaaaaaamn good! It's just such a well balanced fragrance, a beautiful showcase for the cashmeran, and the accompanying notes only help it shine brighter, some by offering contrast and some by being complimentary. The fragrance really does succeed in conveying that whole Mediterranean vegetation experience. This truly is a masterpiece. As far as the Escentrics of the line go, Escentric 02 was always my favourite, and I still love it, but this one is easily the best out of all five. It's just such a breathtaking scent. Also, I'm betting it will be performing really well in high heat. As for the performance, nothing really lasts on my skin, not even the so-called beast mode fragrances. I get a few hours tops out of any fragrance. It's no different for this one. It does seem to linger well when sprayed on the hair though. It's been half a day now and I still keep getting subtle wafts as I move around. I highly recommend trying this one out, it's stunning! Absolutely unisex. Bottle purchased!

This gem is flying completely under the radar and it shouldn't be! It's gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. I get so many compliments wearing this! I even had one guy coming up to me, wanting to know exactly what it was, so he could write it down! It's a beautiful showcase for cashmeran. It's woody, it's aromatic, it's sweet, it's slightly fruity. For months I was wondering what it was that made the cashmeran so sweet. It's not overly sweet, mind, just the right amount, so that you can still wear it in the summer. I was thinking it was the fig that makes the cashmeran sweet, and it probably does contribute, but today it suddenly struck me. And once I noticed it, I wondered how I didn't before. It's the iris! The iris does a beautiful dance with the cashmeran and the fig, so you get a beautifully woody, waxy, juicy, lipsticky sweetness! How did I not notice this before?! Once you notice the iris, you realize how important a note it is in the composition. This truly is an iris-centric fragrance, but it's just really well blended with the cashmeran and the fig. Once again, a masterful blend by Geza Schön, what a piece of art! A must try for anyone! Highly recommended.

Update (Sept 21 2020): I was sitting alone in my office and my colleague walked in, wondering what smelled so incredible. Apparently he could smell it all the way out in the hallway. He quite unashamedly insisted I googled the fragrance for him, so he could take a picture with his phone and remember what it was. I'm afraid I'll no longer be the only one wearing this around my workplace, haha! ----- Well, this is now officially my favourite in my current summer rotation. I just can't get enough of it. Probably going to need a bigger bottle next summer. What a stunner! Also, it's a head turner. I can just see people noticing it when I walk by in the office. I think for a vast majority of people, it's a pretty unique smell, especially those mainly familiar with mainstream designer fragrances. Also, I know it's a cliché to say about fragrances, but it's just so perfectly unisex. It really is. It's woody, but sweet! Most of the Escentrics are pretty unisex, but this one especially. Easily the best of the Escentrics, though Escentric 02 is reaaaally good as well. It's a love!

Escentric 04 and 05 are truly the highlights out of the original 10. This one feels really joyous, celebratory even. It's like having a lovely outdoor dinner on the patio with all your friends during a warm summer evening. The sky is pink, there's string lights, maybe candles in votives, orange wine and fruit tarts. Perhaps it's the combination of orange, fig, and freesia, but this comes across as really fruity and sweet on my skin. I know it sounds so different from what everyone else is sharing, but I'm not getting the super green and forest-y vibe. It's not super "natural" and woody either, in the way an Aesop scent might be. I admit I'm biased since I tend to like cashmeran, but the way it's used here is really beautiful and cozy. And I say cozy, not in the warm holiday sense of a fuzzy sweater in the snow, but cozy in the sense that it feels rich, voluminous, and familiar like a hug from a good friend. I don't love the scientific look of the Escentric bottles, but this is one I really recommend.

This is very unisex scent. Escentric 01, 02 was quite toward to men in my opinion. But 04 was very citrusy perfume which last quite long time. €92 is slightly pricier than designer perfumes but it’s not quite expensive as a niche perfume. This one have niche quality because it does last, but this one isn’t as versatile as Escentric 01&02&04. As Geza said that this is more toward to the scent for the beach & holiday. You can easily detect lime and floral which make this scent unique, but probably it also make some guys away from wearing it. Probably this is not the most unique one, but it’s good one to have in my collection and I will wear it this summer quite often. To me I prefer Molecule 01 than Escentric 01, Escentric 02 than molecule 02, Molecule 04 than Escentric 04, (I don’t like both of 03), and now I prefer Molecule 05 over this one. To me this is quite similar vibe to Escentric 04 - kinda sticky sweetness than I’m not into. Let’s see what girls think of this on men.

I blind bought it for a ridiculously low price and was afraid it would be far too masculine for me, based on reviews. However, it is perfectly unisex. You know these scents that are unisex in theory but in practice somehow too masculine for a woman and too feminine for a man? This is not such a case - it is perceived as absolutely masculine on a man, but on a woman still reveals soft edges of all the aromatic ingredients and smells great. Somehow it reminds me of my beloved Blackbird by Olympic Orchids, but without the fruit component. It's a bit like Blackbird and Encre Noire had a baby. No fougere vibes, it's definitely a modern scent. No bug spray vibes neither. Wonderfully classy perfume for the summer, 1000 levels up when compared to simple, cheerful citruses we tend to use during the hot days and we all love.

My favorite perfumeur who is Geza has a unique synthetic chord in his perfumes. Let me list the perfumes in which this chord is most felt: Renegades Geza Schoen, Escentric 5, Kinski, Evernia, Montabaco and OJ Man. I am a fan of all these perfumes. But my favorite is definitely Escentric 5 and it is very similar to his work on Renegades Geza Schoen. It's more spicy and powerful. Renegades is like summer version and Escentric 5 is winter version. Some on Fragrantica said it smells like cat piss, but that's not relevant. It has a very balanced use of wonderful spices. Since it is stronger than Renegades, it is also very suitable for winter and outdooruse. It can get a little overwhelming in hot weather.

Really love this, although wish the performance were stronger. Really dry, clean, and aromatic, does feel like Mediterranean scrubland and dry heat. I love that this is such a creative use of cashmeran when it's so often encountered in sweet, powdery compositions - I think it really brings out the warm resin in the drydown and stops it smelling too bitter/screechy/cleaning-product-adjacent. Tried layering it with the cashmeran 'molecule' and it dials it up to a cosy cabin kind of woodiness (though still summer-appropriate). Would 100% have bought a full bottle by now if I could smell it after two hours, could definitely still be tempted if I spot it at a discount.

First things first - I love this scent. To me, it's an absolutely timeless scent. I find myself drifting through feelings of nostalgia, whilst very much placing me in the present whilst wearing it. It's the type of scent which compliments moments... memories. In years to come, I will smell the scent again - and instantly be transported back to the special moments I've shared with it. It's certainly a warm weather - blue sky day kind of scent - but I'm certainly interested to experience it now in Autumn/Winter. The longevity is good - 5 hours or so - on certain days longer. Definitely in my top 5 scents of all time.

This is the fourth Escentric fragrance I've tested (after Escentric 01 and Molecule 01 & 02), and in my opinion the most successful. Those others were almost undetectable, but this one is the first that I and others can smell without an effort, and it even seems to project more than most. I don't use a lot of cologne, but people near me noticed it which is unusual. It lasted all day as well. Smelling it evokes evergreen trees and herbs; I can't say I detect the fruit and floral scents, but I'm on board with the summery Mediterranean island picture that they are painting.

Beautiful lemon and peppery (Cashmeran) smell for my nose.. Really nice for summer. It’s start of spring here in Sydney and this couldn’t have come at a better time. The DNA is very Escentric; if you know the brand you would pick up that it’s iconically Escentric perfume.. for the rest it might be somewhat unique but nevertheless very pleasing.. it lasts long for my nose I am not sure if others can smell it on me Always check the profile of person I say to see what sort of perfumes the person likes to get where one is coming from for any particular review.

This perfume is SO GOOD! It’s my first Eccentric Molecules perfume, and I think it’s amazing. The opening is zesty, fruity, and bright. The opening reminds me of a lot of other lemon-limey perfumes like Light Blue, and Mac Turquatic. The mid and the dry down is SO GOOD I love it. I don’t know why some people complain about its strength. I think it’s very strong! It does NOT smell like bug spray like some people said, not at all. It smells like a really good, summer time perfume. It’s not masculine, it’s perfectly unisex.

A sales assistant in a perfume shop showed it to me when I asked for something foresty. And I absolutely loved this! So foresty, fresh and heady at the same time, slightly spicy, aromatic-green. I smell resinous pine/juniper, basil, wood, and orange. The base reminds me of the scent of magazine pages. A very uplifting, happy scent for me. Like a sunny day in a green grove. And I can tell I won't grow tired of it. The longevity could be better, though.

I enjoy Escentric 05 way more than I expected to. So fresh and citrusy, orange mostly for me, with a light addictive sweetness that makes it so pleasant. It smells of juniper and cypress but kind of muted, like fuzzed over, instead of being really sharp. I would gladly smell like this all day, it's such a good don't have to think about it kind of perfume. I like this best from the brand from what I have tried so far. Unisex.

Classy, refined, and surprisingly simple herbal profile for such a complex combination of notes. The bay, rosemary, and conifer needles are most evident to me, and I think I can pick out fig and cedar. Performs wonderfully in the heat and humidity of a Texas summer. This might become a regular in my hot-weather rotation. I like that it’s not a huge scent bubble. I don’t want to offend others. I want to enjoy it myself.

totally loving it. got three testers... always felt like... mmh... somethings missing but something else is so intriguing... and then eventually bought it. love it. just back form Croatia. When I am at some lonesome beach, standing in the shade of the cypresses growing there, a little breeze. showed to my daughter. she said: not for her, its too real. downside: very weak on me.

Bright and juicy citruses with refreshing juniper berries at first but then it’s become more bitter, green and woody and basically smells like a freshly chopped pine branch with a little bit of resin in the background. It slightly leans towards more masculine scents for me, but I would definitely try wearing it on a summer day. My ig: scent.guide

What a release. Clearly I wasn’t expecting Eccentic 05 to be this amazing. Absolute 🔥🔥🔥 from Geza Schoen I get a figgy plum with a flawless citrus and juniper accord. Just love the tamed cypress, the spices, and the hedione. A warm cashmeran embrace its like a sinister yet beautiful story told through smell. Dark sunshine in a bottle. Love it

E05 starts off with a bright citrusy opening, followed with florals that give it a big sunny boost. It feels very summerish and lively on the skin. In the drydown you start to feel that Geza Schon ES DNA, when ISO E SUPER and Ambroxan collide. Its musky, a bit mineral and salty. its deffo Unisex summer frag.

Wow! This is pine in a bottle,it is really green but also moderately woody and not dry per se as one would imagine,I presume this will lift my mood vastly on the rainy days but it’s comfortable on a windy day too or whenever u feel like going into the forest really. Treat urself with a bottle of class...

i really didnt want to but i have to agree - to me it smells like pines....and cat's piss. opening is really bright and juicy - i can smell orange and bergamot, and i enjoy it while it lasts(a couple of minutes), but it goes away really fast. update 09/01/2024 - THIS IS MY FAVORITE FRAGRANCE, EVER

Pretty enjoyable! but definitely not for everybody: tbh, it really has those "piss" undertones in the opening (it's probably juniper effect), but afterwards it's really nice, try it on your skin first :) It is indeed like watered down version of Boudicca Wode, but without anything animalic to it

Here me out: Candy Bottle Caps. Think back to your childhood if you grew up in the Nineties. This smells spot on to those bottle caps, with a little extra soda fizz. Absolutely outstanding fragrance that brought back a lot of memories.=

It starts with so much fun. then settles to become more generic. It's nicely done accessible for someone that wants to fit in with a touch of difference. It may be too consensual for me, but it's pleasant.

This is super refreshing and citrussy with a woody, musky base. I actually really like this but it's very similar to Le Labo Bergamote 22 which I own so not sure if I will be purchasing.

Ferns, citruses, sweet notes, labdanum, musk, a lot of earthy notes. Very yummy perfume. 10/10 in every aspect. Works excellent with Molecule 01 and it's a love at first sniff.

Warm, aromatic and sweet. Doesn't project far, which I like. Reminiscent of cola bottle sweets or cola cubes.

Initial application smells PRECISELY like a gin and tonic. I'm alright with that.

Geza Schoen masterpiece. Can't go wrong at discounter prices.

The "Escentric" component of each numbered "binary pair" of this brand is supposed to showcase the aromachemical of the corresponding "Molecule" by the addition of carefully chosen complementary notes. I find that the newer Escentrics are an improvement on the earlier dull, synthetic "freshies" of Escentric 01 and 02, but the newer Molecules work less well, losing the abstract minimalism that was their selling point. Escentric 05 is supposed to be composed around the cashmeran of M05. There is a lot going on here, and while I think it is an improvement on the lazy, dull "compositions" of E01 and E02, it feels a bit muddled. It is ultimately an aromatic scent, but there is E05 is aromatic and woody from initial spray. The cashmeran is present throughout, its papery, musky haze evident, but it is far from the crux of this scent. There is a slightly sour citrus accord initially, followed by a green figgy note, which, alongside the synthetically musky base, is briefly reminiscent of Matière Première Parisian Musc. The herbal, woody notes round it out, forming the crux of this scent. As it develops, soft, powdery white florals become evident, adding body, but are subtle in comparison with the herbal-woodiness. The synthetic base comes to the fore, with Iso-E-Super evident alongside a mish-mash of amber-esque notes. It is slightly metallic, and is clean despite the muskiness. The cashmeran contributes, but is barely detectable as an individual note. The Iso-E-Super is the most prominent base note here. The woodiness persists, with aromatic herbal nuances remaining. It fades to a synthetic woody-amber grey musky base. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is a unisex, warm-weather scent. E05 has its moments, and is far from the worst Escentric, but it feels a little confused, and is too synthetic for my liking. E04 was much better. 2.5/5.

If you know what cashmeran smells like (molecule 05) then this won’t surprise you. Warm, dry, woody and earthy. Here it’s accompanied by herbal notes, florals, citrus and lots of juniper, which might remind you of gin and tonic. It leans into the aromatic side of the cashmeran and has an interesting hot and cold kinda vibe but some might find it a bit too bitter and earthy. Overall it’s nice, safe and grownup, a textbook example of the minimalist, modern “science experiment” vibe you’d get from a company like Escentric Molecules, Byredo, Headspace or Le Labo, for better or for worse. Contrary to how it’s advertised, I wouldn’t wear this in the dead of summer, but I think it’s worth trying if you’re looking for something light that could still would work in chilly weather.

One of the first scents I loved when I started exploring non-mainstream designer perfumes. As it didn't get much hype, I enjoyed it, but figured my nose wasn't developed enough to see its flaws. Coming back to it now, after gone well down the niche/artisinal rabbit hole and trying so many classics, I find it hugely underrated - this deserves the hype popular Byredo and Le Labo fragrances get in my mind, and at least in my country, it can be bought for a fraction of the price. It's more synthetic than my tastes tend to skew, but (maybe because cashmeran isn't overly used as many synthetics) it still maintains a certain "ripped from nature" feel I enjoy. Best from the Escentric line for my money, followed by Escentric 02. (I don't count the molecule scents as fragrances).

Smooth aroma from casmeleran with a pine base. Although produced as a summer fragrance, it is versatile enough to be used all year round. It is therefore clean with little stimulation. It has a nostalgic warm-weather aroma, but it is also elusive. Silage is adequate, but longevity is threatening. On my skin, the projection lasts more than 6 hours in the air with every movement. Layering this fragrance opens another door. It is especially wonderful with earthy, violet-dominant, wet or damp scents. I have tried a few and found that it works best with Narciso Rodriguez for Him Narciso Rodriguez and Encre Noire Lalique, which support each other's worldview while greatly improving longevity and sillage. I will enjoy this this summer.

I think this is the less abstract scent from the Escentric Molecules line, it is a really complex and well crafted scent, with a strong woody and resinous vibe. It's close to the Molecule 05, the cashmeran is definitely there, earthy and warm, but here is accompanied with some more herbal and citrusy notes that create a really interesting scent. There is to my nose a good dose of pine, mastic, orange peels and rosemary, this is really aromatic, green, earthy and not really "fresh", but for some reason it's really perfect for a hot spring or summer day. This scent recreates the feeling of having a walk in a really warm Mediterranean place, more in a forest than on the coast, and where the sun hits the pine needles on the ground.

This one gives an easier to wear Comme des Garcons 2, despite CdG2 already being relatively easy to wear. It’s a bit more minimalistic and airy, but still retains that signature green profile, even going as far as smelling like glossy magazine pages. I cant stop sniffing this, not because it blows me away, but more because it has an addictiveness to it. Sure, there are other louder, better performing belters for the same price, but if you’re looking to stand out, yet remain understated, this is worth checking out, especially if youre a fan of CdG2.

Definitely woody, and spicy, with some citruses adding to the composition. Cypress and cashmeran are very pronounced in this. Unfortunately as it dries down it turns into a cashmeran bomb and I am not a fan of that note. If you like cashmeran, you will like this, for me it's a pass. Edit: ok in the dry down (2 hours) the cashmeran lessens and this becomes pleasant. I like my cashmeran with restraint.

Perfect hot summer day fragrance for those days when you can’t take the day off work 🥲. This smells like a gin & tonic on a deck of a tiny house in the forrest. Citrus & herbal, very relaxing. Longevity and projection are not the best, but that is something I often seem to have with molecular fragrances. Either I’m anosmic after a few hours or it’s gone, I just spray some more and we’re good 😊.

More citrusy than woody when spraying it, but it gets better. My ex has it, but although it is labeled as unisex I wouldn’t wear it - it leans on the masculine side imo. It’s pleasant, long lasting and the silage is great. It reminds me of Kenzo jungle for men. I don’t really get any summer vibes by it, it’s giving orange cake in a forest after rain (I edited the text bc we broke up)

To my nose, Escentric 05 has a VERY similar spicy cardamom-like thing going on that totally reminds me of Costume National Homme. It starts to appear about 20 minutes in and lasts for a good 45 minutes before it begins to wane somewhat. Anybody else get this striking similarity? That said, I have to say, I'm glad it has this similarity as I have always loved Costume National Homme.

To be honest I see no or very little difference between this and Escentric 04. Perhaps Escentric 05 is more citrusy - I get mandarin although it's not listed - while Escentric 04 is heavier and drier with mastique being prominent. In the drydown Escentric 05 becomes almost soapy, while Escentric 04 becomes more herbaceous.

I had to triple check and make sure the sample I got was the correct one because all I get from this is pure petrichor. Like stepping outside on a rainy summer day. Smells like wet soil, wet pavement, the rain falling over the Mediterranean pine trees... my fav from the discovery set

If you are looking for Hermes-style perfumes with better performance, look no further, you can call it boring or minimalistic. But this perfume delivers, it's really good for being a balanced aromatic. Love juniper berries and cashmeran anyways, so I am a bit biased for this combo.

I'm generally not a cashmeran lover but it is light enough in this fragrance to be wearable for me. Opening is citrusy, which is a common theme throughout all the of the Escentric Line but the drydown is earthy. It also smells woody and hay-like. I like it but nfbw for me rn. -

I'm utterly shocked that this does not have any kind of pepper note in it, because that is immediately what I smell. In a good way! Leaning masculine for sure, but could be great on a woman too. I get mainly a peppery, woody, slightly green/bitter floral thing. It's good!

Of all the Escentrics this is probably my favourite. That said, they are all rather similar to me - leafy, citrus-y, fresh but not in the typical fresh way. This is a bit different as it has a more complex sound and the drydown is pure bliss. So relaxing!

Pleasing summery scent that is more complex once you take the time with it. It starts with a burst of orange/bergamot, but develops nicely into something more resinous, fragrant and piney. A bit like a nice relaxing shower after a bit of sauna. Not bad

One of my favourite Escentric molecule scents & with the best performance also. Unisex, all weather appropriate, everyday appropriate. Clean, woody, musky & the iris is quite prominent on my skin. I would get this for work/gym.
