Molecule 01 + Guaiac Wood

I love woody fragrances, so it was no surprise that I loved this when I tested it at Scent Bar a few years ago. I got a dabber sample of it and would put it on my wrist whenever I wanted a cozy feeling. Flash forward to the other day, I put it on and realized I should should purchase a FB. Well, it arrived today, and I immediately sprayed it on my left upper arm. Wow! Having the atomizer, rather than using dabblers in this case, is not my favorite thing. It’s so much stronger than I expected, and I immediately got the smoky, mesquite-bbq wood that a lot of people associate with the smell of meat. I don’t get meat, but I can understand the association. Typically, with my dabber, I do a line across my wrist, and then get whiffs of creamy, smoky, guaiac wood whenever I move my arm. But with the atomizer, so much more juice is released, that it’s like my dabber on steroids. I almost can’t handle it. Maybe if I had sprayed my wrist, I would be better off, but since I sprayed my upper arm, it’s projecting so much closer to my nose, that I’m almost getting a headache. I’m plus, the weather isn’t helping. It’s over 80F outside, and I learned my lesson. This is not a good warm weather fragrance. I think I’ll try this again on a cooler day, and spray my wrist. If it still gives me a headache, I’ll let it macerate for a while and test again. If all else fails, I’ll just decant it for myself into dabbers and avoid the atomizer. I do love this fragrance, but I may have learned that I only love it in gentle whispers at a wrist length, rather than 10 inches from my nose.

I think Guaiac Wood is one of my favorite notes of all time. This is such a beautiful, warm, smoky scent, yet not too overpowering. It's subtle enough to be worn every day, and smoldering and sweet enough to evoke feelings of comfort and nostalgia. It is just beautiful! Memoirs of a Trespasser is M01 + Guaiac Wood but turned up to an 11 and much more nuanced and layered if you're looking for something along this line but with a little more kick to it. And Memoirs is one of my most loved fragrances. Highly recommend both of these if you're a smoky & woody lover like me. Someone below me said that "few females will be able to pull this off" - gtfo with that lmao. I am a woman who wears intense, smoky scents constantly. They're my favorite scent category. Just another reminder to wear what you want, when you want, no matter who you are. 11/10 - love love love this. I will be purchasing a full bottle sometime!

Initial spray is ultra smoky, like ash, makes me think of lava or a campfire that's just been put out. But, it doesn't last very long and it starts getting sweeter, the sweetness of the guaiac starts to emerge, slowly, but surely, and it becomes less smoky and more woody. And of course, just when you think it's gone, you can't smell it anymore, you move around a bit and suddenly you get a whiff of it, hours later. These molecules love to play tricks on the nose.

Le Labo gaiac 10 without the extortionist price tag or ridiculous exclusivity. I love gaiac 10 but know the smokiness is not everyone’s taste and longevity is fleeting. Molecule gaiac lasts really well becoming softer after the initial smokiness. I’ve had nothing but complements when wearing- plus you can get a decent travel size from Escentric to try before you buy

Initially SO meaty — how could this not involve birch or cade? My boyfriend said he wanted to bite my arm like it was a burger. Quickly mellows into an incense, but just slightly ugly. These Molecule +’s are impressive but ultimately demonstrate why a balanced list of ingredients creates a more resonant, round experience.

Cold weather scent. I live in SF and the weather here is always good for this, so I thought I'd take it on my trip to Spain and then Miami during last summer. WEATHER MATTERS. Cloyingly sweet in hot weather, but the sexiest scent EVER in cold/dry weather. No meat. Smells like woody juicy fruit.

There’s something about this perfume whilst wearing that makes you want to climb into your skin and live there. It’s fresh, energising and has a glorious mystique all at once. Got the sample initially but have had to order the full bottle! Cannot wait until it arrives!

People are not lying when they say this smells like smoked bacon or sausages! BUT after about 5 mins, the savory smell goes away and leaves a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful smoky skin scent. LOVE IT!!

Intimate subtly sweet, smoky musk fragrance with isoE. I like it.

Like the rest of the M+ collection, Molecule 01 + Guaiac Wood is what it says on the tin - Iso-E-Super alongside a liberal dose of the named ingredient. I have been impressed by the consistently good quality of the M+ scents - the focal ingredients are invariably realistic-smelling and high-quality. The Iso-E-Super is unmistakable, but is such a versatile base note that it marries well with all of the diverse ingredients used. Here, it is no different. The Iso-E-Super is detectable from initial spray, warm, musky and slightly sweet. The guaiac wood that follows melds particularly well with the woody side of the Iso-E-Super. The guaiac wood is realistic; balsamic with a slightly smoky undertone that comes to the fore as it develops. It remains linear until it fades to an Iso-E-Super skin scent with its woody side enhanced by the guaiac wood note. Sillage and longevity are moderate, and it is perfectly unisex. M+GW is linear and simple like the rest of this collection, but they are all really good scents that enhance the named ingredient beautifully every time. The M+ collection is the best of Escentric Molecules in my opinion. This is a great woody scent for everyday, year-round wear. 3.5/5.

The smokiness is in the ballpark of Search by Amouage and Maahir Black Edition by Lattafa. With that smoky/citrus combo. Then it calms down quite a bit to a mild smoke and Molecule dna. Very nice! 😁

Simple smokey wood. It's pure sweet guaiac, but I swear I detect some gauzy vetiver too. This is beautiful, clean, and unisex.

Very woody (obviously) but with a kind of burnt sweetness - like agave to it. Pretty decent wear time too.

Ligh fresh spicy. One of the best in the range.

Great alternative to Gaiac 10. I really enjoy.

Let me preface this by saying I typically wear molecules 01s on its own. I understand people use it a lot for layering but I never do with the exception of the OG on a rare occasion. If I feel like it can stand on its own - it’s a FB for me. Unfortunately, due to the notes the molecule + (note here) line being typically prone to weak longevity - a lot of the time I can’t justify getting more than a decant. Huge reason why I haven’t even tried the citrus one - I’m sure I’d love it but it probably won’t last at all (feel free to speak otherwise if you happen to own or worn it I guess). Despite that , I’ve enjoyed all of them a lot until this one specifically. This is really lackluster once you get past the bizarre savory smoke opening imho. This might be a good option if you want to enhance other fragrances with a slightly smoky woodsy note....? I guess....? Idk , my opinions are subject to change but that’s how I feel about this one right now

It's exactly what it says on the tin, Guaiac. But it's a fairly dull wood smell. It's like opening an old cupboard on a solid wood wardrobe built in the 60s, it's the smell of air that has been soaking in wood scent for a decade. It's just not really something I want to smell like, it doesn't smell like you're wearing a perfume, it smells like you're wearing a sweater you just pulled out of an ancient closet at an estate sale. It's also got a bit of that meaty smell that Guaiac has, but with nothing to blend in with. I thought the ISO E Super would add some sparkle, but if it does I can't detect it.

Just... guaiac on my skin. That's it. (Insert "I don't know what I expected" gif here) Pleasant, but a bit too single-note and straight for me. Layered it with a green floral (that I also found too simple on its own) and it went beautifully.

I wanted to love this. I have been looking for a dupe of Le Labo Tokyo city exclusive, this isn’t it. It isn’t very strong, but I found it too masculine so I gave it to my son. Very weak longevity and very weak projection.

Incredibly smoky, nearly burnt woods. It literally smells charred on my skin. For such a strong scent, this one fades very quickly. Leans masculine. Longevity is poor. Sillage: moderate to strong.

Couldn’t have described it any better than they described it themselves. Smokey guaic wood with the soft ambery woody feel of iso e super. Definitely a skin scent reminiscent of a fire.

Why can’t I smell this? It sounds interesting but I’ve gone through the full sample and get - nothing.

I'll just echo my review on Molecule 01 + Ginger, by replacing Ginger with Guaiac wood. Escentric Molecules was a good project but I think by now it's a money grab with most of the additions to the line smells like product of hype and laziness. If you want realistic guiac wood it's pretty easy to obtain, guaiac wood oils of the highest quality can be found easily, and same for Iso E Super (though Molecule 01 uses Iso Gamma Super which is considered superior, for the price asked not having it if you do your own would still be a good bargain). Way overpriced. The scent? It smells like, well, guaiac wood essential oil mixed with Molecule 01, though I find the last flankers of EM to be quite subtle, so curious about the formula compared to the OG.

I bought this due to the comparison between it and Gaiac 10. The two are not close in any way. There is clearly a difference in the type of Gaiac and the die downs are worlds apart. This fragrance has a medicinal clean die down that smells of mint and velvetier and sends dentist office vibes. Additionally, it is categorized as unisex but only a few females will be able to pull this off because it is too unpredictable as to how the die down will perform. Additionally, the projection is extremely weak. I don’t know if this is one that needs misting to smell ideal and I am not sure if the evolution after 3-4 hours. Try before you buy fellow enthusiasts.

I decided to give this fragrance a second reach. Boy am I glad. I thought the weather mattered but really it was distribution and not over spraying. Guaiac 10 still smells worlds different from this fragrance but it is very beautiful as it is all wood. There is a polished musk finish on the dry down. Maybe my bottle needed to settle or I needed a different lotion. However, this is a nice fun, sexy, wood fragrance that won’t offend if without an over powering hand.

At first, this smells very nice. But then it smells like a dog treat, or bacon, or barbecue sauce. Then it smells good again? Too much of a roller coaster for me.

Funny enough but I've never smelled a fragrance that gives off smoked salmon notes... Sure it's delicious on bread but not on my skin.

I am so sorry but this smells like dog treats to me. Just like opening a bag of dog treats. Might smell different on skin but I don't know if I have the stomach to try.

Wow, this smells like really bad meat. This does not smell woody at all and i just hate the smell. Can barely tell the ISO E Super

I picked up a faint smoked meat quality to it initially, but I slowly came around to how beautifully grounding and chic it felt at the same time. The isoE and guaiac combine for a sheer, delicate, whispy smoked wood effect with just a bit of comfy, almost lactonic, mellow sweetness. It feels very still and serene, as there are no surprises or huge dynamic shifts over time- just the wafts of a dry wood that feels both abstract and oddly familiar. It's such an interesting thing to smell. The phenolic, tarry guaiac is transformed into something almost liquid and floral with the isoE. Best of all it keeps a light and sheer texture that makes it practical to wear year-round while most other fragrances of this type would feel too dense. Still definitely a "niche" pick within the line considering some may not like the smoke or be sensitive to the bbq-adjacent aromas, but it's at the top of Escentric's releases for me. edit: As time has gone on I still like it, but I find the late drydown a little too acrid. It loses some of the body and sweetness for sharp, dry wood that's a little less inviting. Your abillity to detect this whole line is also a gamble, although this fares better than the others. Similarities to Guaiac 10 are small as others have noted.

Geza is a genius. And this is underrated, guaiac as a note. And this fragrance. I ordered a discovery set and this is the first plus I smell, picked it first because it was lowest rated so figured start with the worst and go up the ranks. But as I am smelling this in the gym locker room, immediately this smells very nice to my nose. Recently I am in the mood for minimal and fresh frags. This is just nice, this sweet guaiac wood smells a bit like sandalwood to me but more spicy. This is smokey creamy sweet but fresh, very very masculine. It’s marketed as two notes but it smells like a complete fragrance, I think Geza sometimes rounds out the notes with something more but still it’s a clean experience. Love the philosophy of Molecules, so refreshing in 2024 when many guys are wearing really screechy offensive perfumes that can give you negative impressions. ”Maybe, the perfect scent is achieved not when there are no more notes to add but when there is nothing left to take away.”

I have a love hate thing with guaiac. It smells like slightly charred mesquite wood (although not as strong as actual mesquite) which is why it reminds many here of food. I have to be in the mood for it, and it needs something to offset the savory aspect. It's not too strong here, so it's approachable for people that want a good reference point for the material. However, to me, there just isn't enough going on in this fragrance to keep my interest. I think for a guaiac centered fragrance, Guaiac 10 is a better option if you're looking for something that is more entertaining. This may be more appropriate if you need your guaiac fix, but also need to be around other people, perhaps in an office setting. ----------------------‐------------------------------------ Scent 65/100 Performance TBD

delicate, smoky, and calming. It's not complex or interesting enough for me to wear on it's own, but i've been loving layering with other woody or musky scents. i was curious on how it compares to gaiac 10, but the gaiac here is slightly more mellow whereas gaiac 10 is a bit more smoky and zen. Also, the musk that blends gorgeously into the smokiness in gaiac 10 is not present in this one, so I personally can't see any resemblances. However, it is very nice. I don't feel like a burnt/smoked fish or sausage wearing this. Amazing longevity; I usually only spray on clothes, since my skin can't seem to hold a fragrance, but this lasts forever on my skin.

I’m a big fan of the OG molecule O1 and was intrigued by Le Labo Gaiac 10 (except for the price). Therefore, I was very curious how this would turn out. Fortunately, it gives me a similar vibe to the Le Labo whilst maintaining the epic longevity of Molecule 01. Not as sophisticated or classy for sure, but in the direction. The Gaiac is a lot more pronounced in the 01+. May be an unpopular opinion, but I think this is the best release in the + series as the guaiac wood naturally blends with the iso-e super. It feels complete and well blended, instead of a bolt on.

I obviously didn’t know what guaiac wood smells like but this was not what I expected from a wood. It is quite fresh, and reminds me of juniper or even something slightly citrusy. I seem to be the only one but this really doesn’t read as warm of musky to me. As with the rest of the Molecule 01 + line, I can’t smell the Iso E Super so much and the guaiac wood dominates the fragrance imo. I like it but I don’t love it. I think all genders could wear this.

I love this! People are saying it smells like meat, no, that sounds horrible. It's like a sweet wood smell, and a smoky wood smell, and kinda musky... and also Mr Iso E Super is doing his work and making it even more wonderful. And it gets better on the longer it's on your skin. I'm thrilled to have bought this one, but it seems to have divided the crowd, so not a blind buy I don't think ;-)

Lovely Smokey, musky and sweet. There is a really nice longevity and sillage, it stays buzzing all day. The sweet guaiac note does remind me of Le Labo’s Guaiac 10, but a less burnt smokey at the opening and the woody accord is more akin to something like comme des garçons. In some ways this wears like wonderwood without the pepper. I think for its simplicity, it wears nicely complete.

Molecule 01 + Guaiac Wood, by Escentric Molecules, smells exactly like guaiac wood. To me, guaiac wood smells like a gummy, chewy wood. It’s a scent that consists of a blend of dried leaves, smoke, honey, wood, agave and tequila. A perfect perfume for someone who wants to learn and discover the guaiac wood note, add it to another perfume or boost other fragrances.

It opens with a blast of campfire smoke, may be seen as a big and bold scent but once it dries down, it's actually quite mellow. Warm, dry woods with a hint of savoury sweetness (in a nutty vetiver kind of way)

i wanna disagree with the meaty opening of this perfume because it makes me regret buying it but i can only deny for so long! the dry down is much smoother however

any guaiac fragrance seems to turn sour the moment it hits my skin. smells completely different on the card

This is bizarre. The only thing this reminds me of, is bio waste with moldy orange peels.

Softer and more refined version of Genetic Bliss. Very close to Escentric 01 too.
