Esprit de Versailles for Her

I bought this a few years ago, it was a total blind buy which I bought because it was inexpensive and on an offer at The Perfume Shop and also because I'd recently been on a trip to Versailles - well, for a perfume addict that's good enough reason!! OK well on first spraying I got a cloud of sweet blackberry, not cloyingly sweet, but just the right amount of sweetness. On drydown the woody notes come through first and the hint of musk. I'm finding it difficult to detect the wild rose, she seems very shy. Her sister jasmine is keen to show her face though and I can just glimpse her - but the overall result (on my skin anyway) is blackberry, cedar and musk with the merest hint of violet leaf. I can guess that the inspiration for this perfume would have been taken from the wooded paths that lead to Marie Antionette's Trianons, where she went to escape the bustle of the French court. Overall, for such a reasonably priced and generously sized bottle, this was a good enough buy. This perfume can easily hold it's own along with the higher priced ones and outshines many of the more popular ones. It reminds me in a way of Manifesto, but it's calmer and less invasive. If you like fruities and don't want to pay a lot then give this one a try - I think it's well worth it!
