The Musc

'Don't think! Feeeeeel.' Bruce Lee My oh my...I adore this perfume. It's magic. This was sent to me by a wonderfully fragrant pal on the other side of the world, and bless her soul because she was so right. I do love it! It fooled me to begin with though, the vial in the package had leaked slightly and when I got it I thought it smelled of, cheap, fresh laundry, the kind of white musk you get given free with a rollerball when I've bought Oud in the past. This...takes a minute to register and comprehend but when it does....sweet jesus, it's majestic. It opens with a very light hint of rose, and then proceeds to take you on a musky journey into one of the smoothest, yet most complex musk accords I can recall, moving through light and clean, cotton like into more javanol and synth sandalwood to the sweetness and warmth of ambrette seeds, it's just a lovely thing to behold and smells different close up to at a distance. Natural, yet like my favourite synthetic musks, so what if it smells of galaxolide? It’s lovely. I can get a very slightly, traditional perfume element of lavender but it's not even a 'note' as such more of an ethereal, spectre. Then there's the warmth and richly resinous feel of the beeswax listed in the notes and again, it doesn't even have a 'note' of beeswax just a faint orgainic honied warmth a delicate vignette so carefully sown into the fabric of the musk accord in this. This is truly a perfume that smells of all things and one and it's a gift that keeps on giving in the drydown. Less is more here, attention to detail is key in fragrances like this. Where I once may have dismissed stuff like this as 'pleasant' and 'pretty' perfumery not really innovating or moving things on creatively, cringing at myself in hindsight for completely missing the point. Like Bruce Lee once said (yes I'm evoking the great Mr Lee to describe a soft musky perfume, what of it?) 'It is like a finger pointing away to the moon, don't concentrate on the finger or you miss all the heavenly glory.' A good lesson for life in many ways. A delicate, clean musk with a touch of zen. Built around pure nirvanolide with sustainable Australian sandalwood, red ginger, beeswax and lavandin, it’s character is gentle, affable and highly appealing with an innocent charm. The ginger in the opening is an inspired twist that lifts the composition, adds some refreshment and makes it a little bit different. As I wore it it grew on me more and more and I realised this is a scent I could never tire of, it’s quite simple but put together so beautifully. Strongly recommended to musk lovers and those who are into that freshly laundered linen vibe, it’s very clean, warm and comforting. So eminently wearable for any occasion and all seasons, but it’s a perfect choice to wear for chilling out at home, it makes me feel so cosy, like being wrapped up in a soft fleece. I’d say it leans feminine but in the 21st century gender rules are made to be broken and I don’t abide by them - as a man I am very fond of it and will be ordering a bottle or travel spray, it is one of those rare fragrances that genuinely makes me feel happy. Projection is ample and it’s very, very long lasting, I could still clearly smell it on my skin 24 hours later. The nose behind this, Calice Becker has composed many famous perfumes, including the oft compared J’Adore but also a great number (42!) of By Kilian fragrances. I’m very impressed with the perfumes I’ve so far tried from Essential Parfums, so much so I intend to sample their entire range. I thoroughly admire the brand’s mission to make very affordable (and sustainable) niche level fragrances from internationally renowned talents in the field of perfumery.

Essential Parfums’ The Musc is not reinventing the wheel, but it might be perfecting it. There are other lovely musk scents out there but this is hands down my favorite that I’ve tried. The notes are spot on - to me, this is the smell of a baby just washed in sleepytime bath bubbles sleeping soundly in its crib as you sit down to read with a beeswax taper flickering and a steaming mug of ginger tea. It is soft and cozy with surprising projection for a skin scent - it is never loud, but does envelop you in a lovely cloud for the first hour or two of wear before slowly fading to a more usual intimate scent. The Musc layers beautifully with Molecule 01+Ginger from Essential Molecules, which makes the ginger note more prominent and turns it into spicier, more “awake” scent for daytime. This would be a $250 perfume from another brand (which I’d pay HAPPILY) but having both the travel and the full size bottles, I can say they’re keeping costs low with the packaging. It is absolutely adequate but the finishes aren’t nearly as high end as the scent itself: the travel bottle has no cap, the full flagon cap is a cheap plastic that feels at odds with the hefty glass bottle, etc. edit: I have become obsessed with layering The Musc over Zoologist's Bee; the Musc softens all of Bee's honey sweetness that verges on screechy saccharine, while Bee amps up The Musc's beeswax note and improves longevity by a mile. It's a great pairing.

The Musc is the junction between fresh laundry musk and lived-in musk, a clean that is accented with just a touch of human tang. I have a soft spot for lavandin, a hybrid cross between English Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and Portuguese or Spike Lavender (Lavandula latifolia). It's a stronger aroma than that of Lavandula angustifolia and is more camphorous. Lavandin sees much use in functional products such as those for house cleaning, air fresheners, detergents and personal care. Here, it imparts that just-out-the-dryer effect, while the macrocyclic "white musks" Nirvanolide and Serenolide make up the nucleus here. They are soft and sensual, velvety to the nose, recalling warm skin. During my first wear, I began to feel as if it were a specter of my childhood memories, until it dawned on me: cotton. Cotton balls, specifically. When I was a young child, I would use cotton balls to tickle my nose as a sort of soothing mechanism, while sucking my thumb. Think Linus and his blanket. Core memory unlocked, this reminds me of the smell of those cotton balls. The freshest cotton ball, right out of the bag as purchased from CVS, through the round, perforated opening where they would be retrieved. Accompanying me while watching Sesame Street and Mister Rogers. Now that I've shared an intimate detail of my own childhood, I feel a bit liberated—and I feel comfort. My regards to Calice Becker.

The Musc is what I thought VCA's Musc de Soie was going to give me. It’s gorgeous. In an immediately disarming way, actually, where you smell it and go ohhh, that’s the one. It has this clean, creamy, skin-close softness that feels less like perfume and more like your skin right after being loved correctly. The beeswax is subtle without the candle chunkiness you'd typically get. It just adds this faint lotion-y sweetness, a soft little waxy creaminess that makes the musk feel rounded and tender. It isn’t sweet in a sugary sense, it’s sweet in a warm skin under lamplight sense. And the lavender! Such a smart touch really: it keeps the perfume from becoming too soapy or baby powder-like. It's dotted with a low herbal sleepiness, almost like the smell of skin after a shower right before bed, when the air is cooler and everything feels prim yet intimate. The Musc sports the clean of a person, not a product. Cozy, milky fresh skin. It's fuzzy in a very unannoying way, genuinely comforting. The scent equivalent of your sleeping lover's bodily warmth, softener-laundered sheets, tender nourished lips and not having to answer to anyone for the rest of the night.

As a man, I’m absolutely enchanted by this creation. Unlike many other laundry-inspired scents, The Musc actually smells like you’ve just pulled your clothes out of the dryer. You know, literally. To me, it doesn’t come across as a perfume at all - just the most effortlessly pleasant scent of clean, freshly laundered clothes. There’s something incredibly comforting and authentic about it. It doesn’t try too hard, doesn’t overwhelm, and never feels artificial. Instead, it just captures that simple, familiar feeling of warmth and clean clothes that is universally loved. What surprises me most is the rather lukewarm reception it has received. Scents in this genre tend to be quite well-received and in high demand. Quality and scent profile-wise, I would rate The Musc among the very best in the genre (based on the 40-50 laundry-inspired scents that I've sampled or owned). And not only that, but you can pick this up for around 50€ on second-hand markets - a fraction of what many comparable fragrances cost. I fail to see what there is not to love about this!

Beautiful musk, it just works so well with my chemistry. It's a bit sweet and floral and warm and cozy and clean.. obviously Musks can be very personal depending on the person, like another 13 to me is repulsive. To me this is gorgeous .. It leans a bit feminine I think. Ive been very impressed by essential parfums, so far The Musc, Rose magnefiques, fig infusion, and Bois imperial, have been standouts for me. Affordable also and high quality. It seems simple, but I really can sense the quality of ingredients here which make it a perfect signature scent you could wear any time and always smell clean and wonderful. Luckily I don't get any "linen or cotton, or white flower scents I get from other muscs .. but it does smell very clean as there is nothing animalic. Also it is a light fragrance but it definitely projects as my husband kept saying I smelled good out in public.

This smelled like baby wipes to me at first and I dismissed it, but after letting it sit on the skin it turns out I love this one. I’ve tried other lavender fragrances and always figured that I just wasn’t a fan of the note. But this floral, herbaceous musk paired with the most subtle, natural, honey really has me by the neck. I think there are other florals here besides lavender (maybe rose? It pairs really well with rose in any case). It’s the most sophisticated, natural musk I think I’ve encountered. Not laundry-like as in Blanche, Warm Cotton, Body Musk or other aldehyde forward clean musks. This is as though the note “musc” were a plant grown amidst lavender in a beekeepers field. My only complaint is that it lies close to the skin and either I grow nose blind to it or its longevity is maybe 3 hours. But it’s worth it to me, since I can’t find anything else like it.

This is a very soft refined elegant musk, sweet but not too sweet.. not really floral but still smells like some very light flowers maybe the lavender but I don't really smell lavender. It's also a very wet scent... like wet skin clean from a shower after they've used a scented soap. Nothing animalic here.. it's clean as if you've just bathed kind of scent. It doesn't smell like any soap to me that I recognize like many musks smell like Dove soap so I'm glad this doesn't. But it definitely has an intimate skin smell that isn't overpowered by soap. Not a laundry type smell or aldehydes either thankfully.. appropriate for daily wear. This could easily be unisex because it just smells like clean human. Not really "wow" enough for me but I think perfect for someone looking for a signature scent who isn't into traditional perfume and still wants to have a nice aroma.

As a man, this is absolute perfection for me. It starts with a clean laundry vibe, it feels so refreshing. (For the best results, spray this after a cold shower!) Then, it proceeds to evolve into a creamy but not cloying honey/beeswax scent, mixed with sandalwood. I love creamy sandalwood scents, and the honey/woods mix is the cherry on top for me. This is NOT a projection monster, but it has a decent sillage (my siblings could smell me from a fair distance, and they sure enjoyed the perfume!) and i also get whiffs of it in the first hour or two of wearing. Later, it becomes a pleasant sweet skin scent, not disturbing anyone, simply making you feel the cleanliness of it. Easily wearable all seasons, all occasions etc.. This is now a must in my collection, it elevates my mood and makes me feel so good, and that's what matters to me in a perfume.

There’s something about The Musk that just feels right "like it was made for moments when I don’t want to wear a fragrance, but I still want to smell like me, only elevated. It opens so gently, almost like a whisper soft skin, clean sheets, quiet confidence. It’s not loud, it doesn’t perform tricks or chase attention. Instead, it sits close, inviting you in rather than projecting out. As it settles, I get hints of something barely floral, maybe a breeze of something green, but the real magic is in how the musk melts into the skin "warm, delicate, honest". It doesn’t wear me, I wear it. And that’s rare. This isn’t a fragrance that screams luxury" it feels like it. Effortless, minimal, and intimate, like a scent meant just for me. This smells so different on paper than on skin. My original impression was on paper but when I tested it on skin - whoa! My nose only really detects the musk and beeswax and maybe a hint of lavender but the fragrance just MELTS into my skin and becomes this beautiful, warm, addictive and comforting elevated skin scent that makes me swoon. It gives "sitting on a porch in the late evening summer sun, drinking a cup of honey-sweetened lavender tea, with a furry kitten curled up on your lap" vibes. I'm almost finished my sample and think I may have to get a full bottle. This is another reminder to NEVER judge a fragrance based on a paper sniff test and to always give it a fair chance on your skin.

I don't believe I've ever smelled J'Dore, and if this fragrance smells like it, that's a pity. I really love The Musc, and so does my husband. He rarely mentions my fragrances, but enjoys what I wear (most times). The Musc is one of his favorites on me! This just came to me in a lovely swap with a member here. It is not something that I would have probably discovered on my own, so I'm grateful. I get a lot of ginger, musk, and sandalwood, along with a slight whiff of light lavender. This projects well on my skin and lasts for many hours. I love smelling it when I'm drifting off to sleep, too... so peaceful. Highly recommended.

I normally don’t buy musky fragrances but this one is sooo good, I think it’s completely unisex and so so great for layering. It adds a touch of personality to perfumes that I have abandoned, but also makes my stronger fragrances easier to wear during the day. Perfect. I bought hair and body mist as well and I get compliments left and right. Will be gifting it to a male friend that I know will enjoy this, along with the Extrait version, which is also very lovely. Edit: I am starting to realize that somehow this smells like the most delicious whipped cream on me. I swear the more I wear it the more I adore it.

This is pure serenity in a bottle! While the fragrance is not the most complex one and it doesn't develop too much, the blend of the ingredients simply calm the mind when you feel the smell around you. It's the type of fragrance that you want the others to feel on you, to let them get close to you and but at the same time to keep the distance from them, to be unbothered by their pressence. Even if it's not an animalic musc, I can still feel a kind of attraction if I'd smell this on a girl, especially a shy one, well dressed and mannered. I want a shower gel, body lotion and an extract version of this!

Well I love this perfume, I can see how some might compare it to Jador (slightly) A luxury fresh out the shower scent that ooses sensuality, I don't get much lavender at all for those that might be put off by that note, I get the waxy sweetness, also don't get sandalwood, I would of said a musky white floral, very well blended easy reach and the musk is not challenging in the slightest. I haven't smelled a perfume I didn't love from this fragrance house, my husbands signature scent is Bois imperial and I already have rose magnetic. Looking forward to seeing more of these in my collection.

The perfect "clean" perfume; not in a soapy/detergent way but in a clean and tidy wood house where someone has been making beeswax candles and drying lavender. Dreamy, powdery in the nicest way. The beeswax and ginger make this smell warm, like a hot cup of chai latte, not the typical freshness of the other "clean" fragances. Feels perfect for every season, really lightwear for summer, and the lavender can feel floral; cozy and warm for winter, the smell is intimate and reconfortable. An everyday perfume that will make people associate you with the dreamiest and most calm memories.

A very beautiful musk sends comforting scents nea the skin. I found it leaning more towards the feminine side, but a man can wear it. It is a relaxing, soft, well-blended perfume, one of my favourites from this house. Up close the opening gives off whiffs of beeswax and lavender, and although I enjoy those scents in real life, it’s not my favorite part of experiencing this fragrance. The real beauty for me is in the dry down. The base notes are heavenly. Some will say it leans feminine, but I don’t think men should be discouraged to wear this. It’s really clean and pillowy and I wish the base didn’t sit so close to the skin. It does last a long time. This is such a pure innocent scent. I love it more every time I wear it.

I bought this perfume after seeing alot of positive reciews online and being a lover for musc perfumes I got my hands on this gem. First of all it is very clean and innocent scent. It is not overwhelming blind buy safe and anyone can use it. It is an affordable niche perfume and is very long lasting. Office safe for sure as it is not loud but you can still get compliments. If you want some thing for daily use and love musc note then do try this one.

Elevated musc that works best in warm weather. It opens up clean, fresh and creamy. You'll be able to identify the lavender and ginger. Charming combo. The beeswax makes it rather interesting and different too. It smells high quality and subtle. Suitable anywhere anytime. If it works with your skin, it'll smell very alluring indeed. If this scent was a word, it would be gentle. Totally indulging.

I am a big Musk fragrances collector, it’s my scent for mornings and bed times , I am always on a hunt for white musk fragrances, when I tried this one inside the French Retailer ( Printemps) in Manhattan it was love at first sniff! I haven’t smelled something so soft , soothing, calming and clean like that ! I had to have it immediately! Now it’s my number one musk fragrance!

This is what I call a "very clean woman scent" because of a beewax note. I get the same vibe as from Prada "La Femme". The best perfume for everyday chores and going to office. It doesn ́t smell dull or ordinary, this perfume has its character and people usually recognise it. Also a surprising people ́s pleaser, I get a lot of compliments when I wear it.

@tschavleva below has hit the nail on the head. It smells lovely on my Girlfriend. Amidst the sea of *Good girl*, *Black Opium* and *Cloud* style fragrances being so popular, this one comes across as a soft, slightly sweet, very clean soap-like scent. It is elegant and delights the nose. Basically a 9.4/10 It definitely leans feminine in my opinion.

Stunning and so easy to wear! And the longevity is just insane.. Today I went hiking and it was 38 degrees so it wasn't exactly graceful, then swam in the river and as we returned to the car, my friend asked me what perfume I'm wearing. I told her no way I still have anything on me and then I touched my neck and I could smell it on my hand.

This one is reallv solid. The opening notes are strong lavender, and I can also pick up some beeswax notes that remind me of propolis drops. Once it settles down, it's very clean and musky. I love how long-lasting it is, and I think it's fairly priced. I've been wearing this perfume almost every day and I'm not getting tired of it.

This is the musk for me. It’s so clear, it’s not muddied by florals, particularly rose which seems so ubiquitous in ‘musks’. The softening notes, especially a tiny hint of honey, and soft sandalwood, breathe into it and lift it sweetly. It never loses its white musk air, there’s nothing harsh or overtly chemical in it.

Smelled this at a store and loved it the most out of the whole line. It was this one then second place was the fig one. This one was so clean smelling, it was a simple yet such a beautiful scent. And surprisingly the price was pretty good for the quality of juice you’re getting. I can’t wait to get me a bottle.

Soapy clean, freshly-laundered, put-together. The beeswax in this is just stunningly photorealistic. I never knew the smell of wax could "bee" so pleasant (sorry). The softest hint of lavender just makes this super cozy too. It smells like the spring. This is quite feminine and soft but very *present*.

This has a wrong name: it's not 'The MUSC', but 'The BEESWAX'. Longevity and projection are excellent. It's strong, massive, something you can rely on a long workday. But it's really really beeswax heavy. Almost the same as in Prada La Femme which I can't stand. But this one is simpler and better.

It stays for really long time on my clothes. On the skin, it become mellower and feminine, guess just adapt to each person chem. Beeswax super realistic quality, at first kinda like playdoh but now, I can't get enough of this. Spray a lot, why worry no headache.

Got a discovery set from this brand, and this perfume is my favourite! It's very clean, not overwhelming, not too lotion-y, just perfect. On me I can still feel it for about 5 hrs, and then have to reapply (others can still feel it though)

I find this very sexy on a woman...Ic not long lasting or heavy projection but I still adore this scent.Captivating ,clean, soft and feminine. Out of all perfumes that my girl has this is the one I like the best. 10/10 for me. :D

It is actually very woody based fragrance with tweeked powdery and classically musky clean linen accord. Excellent for days when you want to smell liked that, also the price is very affordable for the quality you get.

It’s pretty powdery and simple. A great starter perfume for someone who is getting into perfumes. The brand name is really on point. But for someone who who is more into complex or unique perfumes this is not it.

at first I hated this perfume, wrote it off as powdery and and when I sprayed it on my arm it meshed with the lotion I was wearing (honestly my mistake for combining two scents on accident) in a way that made me smell like old person to the point that I had to shower- mindlessly, I sprayed some of it on a piece of tissue and left it on my bathroom counter. Later that night I went into my bathroom and was absolutely obsessed with this aromatic clean scent and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from; that is, until I picked up the tissue and sniffed it again. The way this scent dries down allows the freshness of its base notes to step into the light and truly shine. I decided to revisit the perfume and spray some on before I went about my day. The opening remained incredibly powdery to the point I got concerned, but I waited it out anyways to see how it would develop on skin and not the tissue. Throughout the day I caught myself catching whiffs of the perfume and I can only really describe the aura it gave me as feeling like a proper lady. I am not really one for sweet and traditionally femme fragrances, but this fragrance landed at the exact threshold where I could enjoy it without being turned off or given a headache. At the same time, it was almost like I wasn't yet experienced enough to wear it. It wasn't that the powdery old person scent is what it remained, just that the perfume felt so sophisticated and established that it felt wrong to wear it on menial errands instead of a board meeting. Overall 8/10 for personal wear however I can see this easily being someones signature scent.

unisex, very clean white musk. If you like laundry detergent-like scents (but not aldehydes) you will likely enjoy this one. This is surprisingly heavy and projects. It does remind me of Initio's Musk Therapy. The way they differ is that Musk Therapy is more floral and slightly shampooey and The Musc has a soapy/detergent-like quality. Like dryer sheets. It smells CLEAN but warm on clothes or skin. I layered this with a rose oil and fell in love. I love the delicate honey scent from beeswax. I'm getting more sandalwood compared to the lavender and don't really smell the ginger, but I bet it's in there in just the right amount to freshen things up. It's for everyday, lasts about the entire day and sticks to clothes well. On clothes, this smells like expensive luxury fabric softener. Editing my review after getting a full bottle: The experience above was with a travel size tester. These travel sizes actually do not come with a lid/cover on the atomizer. Maybe that was affecting my experience? I used to not smell almost any ginger and the musk was the most overpowering note throughout the entire perfume. After getting a full bottle, I can most definitely smell the ginger! It is a zingy opening. I'd say it is an even better experience.

اخيرا وجدنا عطر سيء من هذا الدار رغم ان السيء عند هذا الدار افضل من الجيد عند بعض الدور الاخرى النوتات تحمس ولكن ليس لها وجود، الطاغي هي نوتة شفافه، ربع حيوانية، مع خليط روائح يصعب التعرف عليه فرديا لكنه تقريبا نوتة عشبية عامة تشبه التي في بوا امبريال بس تقريبا هذا هو العطر ليس سيء ولكن لا اعلم ماهدفه وما استخدامه. يمكن اذا تريد نسخة اخف من بوا امبريال عادي لاتحتاجه ولكن قد تريده اذا عندك ذوق تفصيلي ودقيق ٦.٧٥/١٠ - Finally found a bad fragrance from this house Though even a bad fragrance from this brand is better than a good one from some other houses The notes sound exciting, but they barely exist. The dominant accord is something transparent, slightly animalic, with a blend that’s hard to identify individually, though it mostly comes across as a general herbal note similar to the one in Bois Impérial And that’s basically the fragrance Not bad, but I don’t really understand its purpose or use case. Maybe if you want a lighter version of Bois Impérial Average You don’t need it But you might want it if you have a very detailed and picky taste 6.75/10

Essential Parfums The Musc has a name that made me think that tea would be a key note, but instead, the note breakdown is a very varied, interesting mix of red ginger, lavandin, floral notes, beeswax, sandalwood, and musks. It opens very brightly and sharply, almost effervescent and aldehydic, and has nice balance between sharpness and sweetness that makes it feel a bit versatile. I definitely like it quite a bit, but I’m not sure I love it, but I know I love the inventive, daring aspects of its conception and creation. The ginger/lavandin combination is the most prominent defining aspect of the fragrance, but it’s certainly modified and mollified by the citrus/resin/wood combination in the background. Like the rest of the line, this is EDP concentration and priced very reasonably at $96 for 100ml, and is sold at US boutiques like Ministry of Scent. And like most of the line, this performs quite well. I’d certainly recommend trying it along with the others via a discovery set. 7 out of 10

Definitely not the most unique, yet a really good one. Smells like a really comforting hug that you don't want to let go of. As a fan of honey/beeswax notes, happy to tell you that the beeswax is fully there: with the sweet and sour undertones, the floweriness of the honey. So is the ginger; and maybe the lavender, but just a drop. Subtly sweet, but definitely not too much. The comments are right about the projection though: it's definitely very light, a smell-in-a-hug type of scent. However, I'm afraid that if it would be louder, it would be much more headache inducing. For me, it was a tad too feminine (the floweriness of the honey+lavender must be it). However, I would love to smell it on someone else. I would say, if you took a look at the notes and are content with them/don't need anything more complex, you can buy it. It won't give you any unfortunate surprises, because it won't give you any surprises at all. A reliable scent to wear for an evening in a luscious coat.
