Metropolis

This fragrance works magic. I don’t have much left but when I wear it I get stopped by people everywhere I go. You wouldn’t think it at first sniff but it works really well in summer, the notes unfold differently and feel a little more decadent in summer.

Another discontinued masterpiece 🏆 by the way why only great scents are always discontinued? Go & ask why? 🤔

A stumble through references in the reviews of other lost 80s frags led me to this one. I lucked out on a partial splash bottle at a thrift store price on eBay, and I’ve gotten to wear it a few times. My experience may be mitigated by the fact that it is a splash (so I’m going light) and the well-macerated contents, but I find this one very subtle and fleeting. The article about Metropolis here on fragrantica references the soft sophistication they were going for, and I get that. It’s a very 80s scent, but in a way that seems kind of sharp-shouldered and polished, not hairy chested and brash. Im curious what this would do on other people’s skin. I get the herbs and mintyness, and I guess I can sniff my arm and imagine a leather bag. Interesting, kind of archaic, very unique and of it’s time.

In fact, this is a guest from the future to those times. You could say that this is a watercolor sketch of Aventus made of natural materials. There is no sense of synthetics at all, no overdoses, a very pleasant glass in which pineapple emerges from herbs - it seems to be pineapple, but suddenly it becomes sage with lemon and juniper. There is a hint of quinoline leather in the base. And yes, for the money asked for it - yes, for a collection, but for everyday wear it is easier to buy Aventus and clones. It is preserved very well - never beaten, although there are citrus oils.

Constantly got compliments from this one - first bought it in Bloomingdale’s in New York and will always remind me of Manhattan - kind of get hints of this in Vera wang for men - both now discontinued unfortunately.
