Eau de Protection

A spicy rose extract, taken from Walt Disney's animated film The Sleeping Beauty. I love rose in perfumery, but I struggle to find roses that suit me. I adore the Rose from Guerlain's Rosa Verde and the delicate Rose by Roger & Gallet, and I was looking for a beautiful gothic rose. It was a long road, until I found Eau de Protection. I instantly knew that this was the fragrance I was looking for. I was moved, I finally found it. This rose is the rose I know, the one I smell on my Atlantic coast and that I adore. But there's a twist (and what a twist!), a refreshing and powerful blend of beautiful spices that mingles with a woody facet. It transported me to The Sleeping Beauty, where the forest is gloomy and scary, but it's my forest. I perceive the blood accord (it's an accord, not a note), and it impresses me because it's a bit edgy, but not trashy at all. It's balanced, perfectly executed. The association with the name Rossy De Palma is very fitting—a powerful, fiery Spanish woman, provocative yet an undisputed fashion icon—all of which is present in Eau de Protection. The longevity is solid and beautiful. At the end of the day, the rose is still there, but it's fading. In addition to that same impression on my skin that all the ELDO fragrances I've tried so far have left, like a resinous and luxurious base (I don't know if this is their way of working with their bases, but it's a common trait I find in all ELDO fragrances). If you love rose in perfumery, don't be intimidated by reviews that call it an old lady perfume. First of all, there's nothing shameful about smelling like a chic old woman, but more importantly, if you love this fragrance as much as I do, it will become one with you. So let Lana Del Rey whisper "I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream" to your ear while you spray, and join her in the realm of Aurora.

Got my hands on the sample kit with 20 small vials of ELDO's fragrances to try with my girlfriend. This was our thirteenth sample test! This one is the most gorgeous, shimmering rose. The opening is by far my favorite of the ELDO scents I've tried in this set, that bitter orange and ginger last forever and the pepper is exquisite, freshly cracked and punchy. The rose is present at the start as well, mingling with the aforementioned notes. ELDO's rose notes are always absolutely gorgeous and this one is no exception. Then it simmers down gradually as the other florals come in to help sort of "push up" that initial rose. It's like strolling through a garden at peak bloom... and then that incredible patchouli comes in, and those subtle resins, and you're resting under a big gorgeous tree in that same garden. It's something straight out of a movie or an obscure childhood memory for me. The ginger is the main thing for me, it compliments the rose so beautifully alongside that orange and patchouli. I never got sick of this scent while I was testing it. This is a super wearable scent from a house that normally is known for it's stranger offerings. Normally I'd be a bit more "this isn't the usual" but I've found a lot of ELDO's popular offerings to actually be... fairly acceptable, but with a fun little twist. This is one of those. Lasts a long time, radiates off the body in a way where you always get a nice whiff of it when you're moving around, and year-round wearable. This one is one of my favorites I've had so far from the sample collection. Fantastic!

I LOVE this!! To the person who compared this to Rose Jam but better, 100% on that. This opens with a huge spicy aromatic ginger burst, it’s right in your face and powerful. But, then it starts to dry down into something magnificent. The rose note is like a background character who is doing something important but isn’t the main focus, it’s there, it’s doing it’s thing, but it’s not the main. What is the main, is the citrusy peppery smell. It’s thorny and abrasive while also being comforting and clean, and it is a work of art. This has to be my second favorite fragrance that has a rose note, and it’s for good reason. The thing that I noticed the most is how durable this is. This has to be one of the longest lasting fragrances where the rose note is completely there the whole time, and I wore this to work and I smelled it all the way through the day. It’s gender neutral while also being elegant, and I would agree that it’s not the safest buy because the combination of notes in this is unique. To add to this, this makes an incredible pair with Roses Greedy for layering. By far my favorite way to experience a strong, very much there rose note.

The most obvious gothic imagery of blood-red thorny roses, while appropriate enough, can very well obscure the truth of Eau de Protection: that it is an exquisitely composed olfactory piece. It begins in an almost strident manner, a tangled vine of bitter metallic green, zesty, hot-sour sensations, biting-into-peppercorns and washing down crystallized ginger with pure rose water. I would almost say that I'd want this opening stage to last a lot longer, but then I consider that its duration is perfect: too prolonged a marvelous thing may turn grating to the nose. This yields to the core of these dark velvet-ruffled roses, moist and mingling with the loam, flashes that are spiced-geranium-like and crepuscular. This is the overall feel: tenebrous, with peripheral warmth, a prickly rose garden that swallows itself in the moonlight. It feels somewhat like L'Artisan's Voleur de Roses, except on the contrary, the roses have a master plan to ensnare the patchouli and make it submit to their wiles.

Yay finally an ELDO I like! I honestly don't want to talk too much crap about the brand as a whole because I do think their frags push boundaries, can be very unique and interesting, and I'm sure they work well on lots of people - plus the price isn't ridiculous like some houses.. but they in general just don't do it for me. They smell highly synthetic and screechy and also some of them smell very similar to me. But I digress, this one is a truly lovely jammy spiced rose. It does smell like a matured Rose Jam - Lush. A sweet jammy rose with a hint of ginger. I'm not a floral/rose fan normally however I love the depth of this. Sillage like a beast for 3-4 hours and then it slowly starts to mellow and I get more of the Tonka and Benzoin coming through. If patchouli bothers you it may do in this too my Auntie said it smelled disgusting but she hates patchouli soo.. Lasted 15 + hours on my wrist and survived a scrubbing in the shower around hour 7 lol. 8/10

YUMMMMM i cant help but LOVEEEE turkish rose perfume and eau de protection is such an elegant and fresh rose found in the woods. the ginger and bitter orange add so much warmth and brightness and turkish rose is REALLY complimented by the jasmine and heliotrope which i think is what gives this nature esque smell to the rose, like i found a bush just growing randomly in a field of flowers. it reminds me of a perfume my cousin had when we were kids and i would spend so much time smelling myself whenever she let me spray it. this really is such a quite, wise take on turkish rose and im very fond of how unisex this scent is as a whole even with a defining rose scent, the only thing that i dont like about this perfume is the fact she doesnt last as long as some of the others in their discovery set, but someday ill find a long lasting turkish rose. i know ill be quite sad when i use this 2ml bottle all up

I enjoy this one more than I expected. It’s a sharp and metallic rose, I can clearly see a red rose with thorns and a thick stem. The opening it’s a little bit spicy and green at the drydown it gets more earthy but the rose presence is always there trying to make your nose bleed. I don’t know how to explain this but making honor tho the name, it makes me feel protected, it reminds me of the smell of my mother, the perfume of my grandma and the hugs of my aunts, as a 90’s kid i understand why and I love it. Saying that I don’t want to say smells retro or so, but clearly has the kind of rose notes that were so popular back then. The silage is just average, it last the whole day and as an extra is the perfect layer for some metallic Ouds try it with the ones with orange and thank me later. And one more extra, it's the only ELDO fragrance that doesn't give me a headache, synthetic but not enough 😅

just bought a full size after a week of smitten testing. I'm a sucker for rose, that's no secret: but this one... this one keeps me wanting more. It's all blended in such a way that it's difficult to pinpoint what exactly is there along with the rose: the rose just keeps switching personality, first cold and rainy, then electric (?), then it's green, then it's deep red. It's natural, it's plasticky, it's rose water, it's rose-soaked velvet. It's mature, it's your mid-20s. It's sensual, it's melancholic, it's nostalgic. I sprayed some on my shirt last night before going to bed and it kept me company all night. It was still there when I woke up and then well into the morning :) I enjoy a lot the way it develops, I find it gradually becomes slightly bitter, metallic, fabric-like - synthetic in a way and not sweet at all.

I was worried that it would be relentlessly sweet and floral, and that patchouli (not a favorite note) would later burst from the flowery hedge like a marauding raccoon, but neither calamity occurred. Instead, for the full day I enjoyed a gentle evolution that defies my limited scent vocabulary, but was entirely a pleasure and consistently interesting and uplifting. The opening moments are rose (a middle note that evidently arrives early), clear and light, but almost immediately the rest of the party appears, and it becomes nicely balanced, clean and fresh. Hours later, the clean, just-showered notes remain, mingled with a rounder, warmer undercurrent like spring sunshine. While this is a departure from my usual preference, I enjoy it immensely.

I love this! At first I was intrigued by the inspiration for the scent, Rossy the palma. Such a cool lady and felt seen with her nose (I have a similar one). I was a bit nervous about it being a rose-scent (one of my favourite scents in real life is smelling the roses in my mums garden, but mostly all rose-fragrances I’ve tried in the past hasn’t jived with me). But I really love the way ELDO use rose in their fragrances. And in Eau de Protaction I love how the bitter orange, pepper and ginger elevates the rose and makes it so sparkling. Especially the bitter orange and ginger, they linger with the rose. It makes it so fresh and aromatic and I love that I finally found a rose-fragrance that I like!

Another of my favorite rose fragrance! I personally have “La Fille de Berlin” and “Lady Vengeance” and to my opinion they are not near similar. Eau de Protection is a spicy, aromatic rose. Dark and incense comes to my mind, such a beautiful fragrance with a citrus pop really subtle and not noticeable. Perfect for the night and during chill days of spring and fall. Not good for hot humid days of summer as it’s a heavy warm spicy instead of fresh. Worth of trying it out and you don’t need a lot of atomizations. It’s not jammy, neither pretty sweet is more dark and deep, into this dark academia aesthetic. This was made in collaboration with Rossy de Palma, so it makes sense with her esoteric vibe.

It’s sometime in the middle of the night, there’s a storm on the horizon, you can see and feel the electricity in the air. You’re standing outside of castle ruins, but the garden, though wild, is intact, and full of dark red roses. They’re so mature that tomorrow they will surely wilt, but tonight they fill the air with their strong scent, reminiscent of patchouli. There’s something gothic about this perfume. I love to wear it on nights I’m home alone by myself, reading a book, sipping tea. It’s gorgeous, but dark, mysterious, definitely not for the masses. So worth sampling, but give it a couple of wears, where you can “listen” to the story it tells you, worth the trip.

A fizzy and fresh top of citrus ginger and pepper over deep, red rose jam; with a sexy , earthy and authentic herbal patchouli trail. An invigorating but deep, sexy, velvet rose. It's like a bubbling, crisp gin moscow mule being sipped on by a Nikki Lane doppelganger, who's dotted herself with patchouli essential oil. A big, fragrant bouquet of summer roses sits on the table. It is so comforting, pretty, and unique. I'll always love this type of rose profile with patchouli; will ✨always✨ have a decant of this, Lady Vengeance Extreme, Eau Capitale, or Portrait of a Lady in rotation at any given time. 🌹🩸🌿🍸🫚🥀🐈⬛

peppery prickly rose, yes she has thorns. The dry/powdery rose Reminds me a lot of the one in Coco Mademoiselle Intense, very old-timey lipsticky rose. In this composition, Ginger keeps It fresh and benzoin gives a slight sweetness to the fragrance. I loved the description of the original formulation: a woman whose honey has been distilled and the juice from her heart has been squeezed. Super vampy and mysterious but at the same time a wonderfully crafted perfume, cause there is definitely a nuance that keeps this sort of a fresh composition instead of dead dried roses and rotting carcasses.

The ginger and rose give this pure bold and loud in a beautiful way that I can almost feel the petals against my face feeling. Reminds me of the orange / peachy colored roses with a pinkish red rim on the petals that grew in my grandmothers garden. The blend is done so perfectly that you almost can't discern between the metallic blood and roses, the iron and the strong bold rose are to die for, or in this instance of protection, live. It also brings me back to my late teen years hanging out with my friend and her mother as they crushed roses to make rosary beads.

I don’t love rose, but I do love chypres. And boy do I love this rose chypre. Very rose-centric. A powdery rose elevated by zesty ginger and bright bergamot. It’s a beautifully crafted composition. Aromatic. A bit peppery. Soapy. Not so sweet. I can’t quite place the scent memory it gives me. Maybe the Avon Skin So Soft bath oil my mom kept in the house in the ‘80s. Eau De Protection is exquisite. Intriguing. Dark, dense, earthy, and vampy. In the same glorious vein as mossy (but much less rosy) chypre-florals Cartier La Panthère and Diptyque Eau Capitale.

My favorite. When I first smelled this it was very metallic. Then the citruses opened up and made it very bright and fresh. The turkish rose is sweet, not perfumey. The ginger adds fresh citrus and sweet spice, perfectly blending it into the patchouli, which is dark and sexy. How can a perfume be bright and dark at the same time? Spicy, citrusy, fresh, warm, sweet rose. Definitely a nighttime going out scent for me. I'm currently on the hunt for a scent just like this but without the rose, not that I don't like it, it's just very feminine.

My signature scent. I could drink this perfume, bathe in it, drown in it. It perfectly captures Rossy de Palma's unique beauty. A photo-realistic blood-red rose floating in the heart of a thorny, dark green garden. This rose can only be seen by those who are brave enough to reach past the thicket of thorns. Grazes and blood on the forearm is the price to pay for the beauty of the rose. This perfume makes me feel protected from anyone who fears my sharp thorns. But if you don't like rose, you probably won't like this one.

My fave rose scent EVER! It's like Grandma with a switchblade or like wearing motorcycle boots with a floral dress. More of super sweet rose geranium than a rose garden with ginger and pepper spice on top and earthy woodsy patchouli underneath. Works wonderfully with other leather scents and vanilla layers as well. I love wearing this scent. It makes me feel good it's an intricate and quite sophisticated fragrance. Definitely not a blind buy item though, it's a love it or hate it scent. I suppose that's the protection.

A proper warm, spicy jammy rose. It reminds me a lot of Lush's Rose Jam (in showergel form, I've never tried the actuak perfume). This is how I like rose - almost edible, turkish delight but richer and thicker. It's fairly strong as well. I do mainly get peppery rose though - it's hard to pick out any of the other notes, particularly heliotrope? I would have never guessed it was in there. Recommended if you like a rich rose; I wouldn't say this is floral or light by any accounts, it's dark and jammy.

That rose with the incense and patchouli base is nothing less than stunning! The cacao just peeks out. Luscious. Rich. I love the actress Rossy de Palma and can see how she inspired this. I'm gay and don't shy away from wearing women's perfume. In my opinion, this is a woman's perfume. I do drag and will think about getting this for my act. F*ck! Breathtakingly beautiful!

I'm wearing this beautiful scent as I'm typing this. This is what I imagined Radical Rose from Matiere Premiere would smell like but that one is just too sweet and jammy for my liking. This, on the other hand, is well-balanced. The sweetness, greenness, earthiness, and even the freshness are so well balanced, but at the same time there's something melancholic in it the longer it stays on my skin and clothes which I really love btw. Full bottle worthy!

As someone who loves ginger in fragrance, I absolutely approve of this! This isn't what you would find commonly even going into a fragrance boutique. It's fresh and somehow still spicy enough to be best for those transitional seasons. It's a little herbal and reminiscent of eucalyptus but without leaning too green. The rose is complimented perfectly here. Not something I think just anyone would like so sample before you buy!

GOD. This is so amazingly sexy. I see a lot of people saying if you're a rose lover you won't like this, but I don't think that's necessarily true. On the other hand, you definitely have to be a chypre lover to like this. I think the heliotrope coming through is what gives it a bit of a powdery facet, and the benzoin gives it some added sweetness, but this is absolutely a full-on rose & patchouli scent in the beginning.

oooh, this satisfies all of my base desires . . . not just the bloom of the rose, but the hungry, delicate root. not just the verdant leaf but the twisting green shoot, wiggling up through the air into a perfect bud. all the delicious violent exuberance of spring, prickling and tingling every cotyledon. green and white and pink and warm and wonderful. makes me feel like a fairy in bloom, a flower in flight <3

Very pretty, fresh rose chypre with an undercurrent of herbaceous patchouli. Watery, green, easily wearable rose. Quite reminiscent of dyptique Eau Capitale in it's clean, rosy soapiness. The name is charming! Eau Capitale has a bigger sillage and staying power, but Eau du protection tends more juicy, slightly more bracing/spicy from the ginger & pepper. Very nice! Pungent perfume, very charismatic and with gothic nuances. Fantastic scent that I got to smell thanks to an original sample years ago. An "unusual" rose thanks also to the agreement between bitter orange and pepper. In the drydown it becomes even darker but a little warmer, with a certain elegance and modernity. Season: spring and summer days and warm nights. Occasion: fun outdoor events, weddings, cocktail parties, warm weather holidays. One of my favourites from the Free State. This fragrance starts with a strong and even blend of jasmine, rose and bitter orange. After drying down a little, the warmth of ginger and pepper become more prominent. The tonka scent is subtle and arrives late.

Spicy ginger, orange and rose tea... it reminds me of dragon blood incense a little bit. This is something that witches would wear... very well balanced while still having a distinct presence of those darker notes. I could see myself adding this to my collection... and I know for a fact I would love this on my boyfriend so we will both be skin testing this gem.

The literal definition of a changing, layered perfume. It's an incredibly strong, long-lasting piece of olfactory art that keeps you chasing your wrist to see what note shifts next. -Rihanna – Rogue: Rich leather and suede with incredible longevity. It’s sexy, lingering, and delivers a completely different, addictive kind of spicy warmth.

Predominantly a rose fragrance, there’s a sharp citrus and spice brightness layered over something dark - patchouli, vetiver. A little floral headiness to round it out. It’s complex without being muddied. Not so much balanced as a simultaneous display of contrast. Absolutely beautiful perfume. Instantly one of my favorites.

The ginger and rose mix so beautifully in this. I have Toy Boy which is also a rose forward scent, but there is something about this that just clicks the happy part in my brain. I came across this fragrance by accident when I was sampling others, and I'm so glad that I did. This has become a staple in my collection.

opening is 100% freshly harvested cannabis flowers x fresh rose. !!!!!!!!!!! this is the thing i can never find in cannabis and "cannabis" scents. wasn't expecting anything other than hyperreal rose or even just a really nice rose chypre from this, which is what the drydown ends up becoming. obsessed...

This is such a classic rose scent, it lingers thru out the day, some people find this type of rose scent old fasioned but in my opinion this is luxury and sophisticated, very classy good for fall on a rainy day, or a windy spring day. In a library or drinking coffee.

The opening is some sour and spicy flavors, and then the roses bloom. Pepper and pathouli balance the sweetness of roses well, making this perfume suitable for any season, and for both men and women.By the way, I can smell the skin of cats and dogs from this perfume.

Simply put: it's a rose. Which is more unusual than it sounds. It's not a soapy rose, it's not a sour rose, it's not a jammy rose, it's not a stemmy rose. It's just, a rose. (Okay, there's some milk-chocolate patchouli too, but you get the idea.)

Absolutely a divine fragrance, but I think 70% of the reason I love this one so much is because of its name—to me, all perfume is an eau de protection, a shield of beauty against that which seeks to harm me ❤️🩹

Underrated. Super strong, silvery, vegetal rose. Masculine, yet soft. This is what Lyric Man wants to be. Top rose scent for men, unisex, quadsex, whatever! This is the perfect fall rose for men.

beautiful strong dark rose with citrus peel. when I first spray it, it smells entirely like dark rose but when it dries down i start to get the citrus too.

I love it , very unique. Unlike any of my other perfumes This is a keeper. And yes sillage is moderate . Which I am fine with. Very very nice.

reminds me of our LORD AND SAVIOR fran fine; a very sexy, cool girl next door scent which reconciled me with rose notes.

Aers Etat Libre d'Orange Advent Calendar I bought the ELdO discovery set and made it my advent calendar. I'll try to post a review every day in the order the samples are in the set. Day 4 - Eau de Protection I'm sceptical about rose perfumes because I always feel rose as a dominant note makes everything smell like a rose-soap and that's just... "old" and not very exciting to me. I'm sure my experience there is limited by my prejudices so that's why having a discovery sample of a rose-heavy scent come and force me to try it can help me experience things I wouldn't otherwise and while Eau de Protection hasn't quite totally won me over in terms of roses, it helped to give me a better perspective. It starts off quite fresh. Mandarin zest, orange blossom some spiciness that I later understood to be black pepper. Quite quickly though, the rose in the scent makes itself heard. This is, without a doubt, a rose perfume - at least on my skin. And it stayed true to its thorny roots. It's rose through and through. However, despite it being easy to make out the rose note, I did not feel like I was wearing a rosy perfume throughout the day. Because, as the proverb goes, the thing is more than a sum of its parts. See, what it ultimately was on my skin was predominantly three notes. Rose, zesty orange, pepper. I got very little else but I could easily make out these three notes if I tried. But together, what I smelled was a clove-pickled Orange. You know? These things that you do for the Christmas season so your rooms smell good and christmassy? If you don't know what I'm talking about, google "clove orange" and you will see pictures of it. It's a thing, at least where I live. The notes blended gracefully and smoothly and created a warm, spicy, slightly christmassy orange scent that I just couldn't take my nose off during the day. It was very comforting. It felt completely adequate for the season. The pepper was clearly pepper but only if you focused on it. The same goes for the rose. Just smelling the perfume for what it was, the combination did very much play nice with my nose. It's friendly, inviting, a little fresh, a little spicy. This is by no means heavy. The spicyness is pronounced by a bit of ginger here and there. It's light and warm at the same time. You could easily wear this as an office scent during winter and I'm sure everybody would appreciate the way you smell. After around 8 hours, the scent lost most of its complexity and what remained was then the "pure" rose that I do not enjoy much. It's now more than 12 hours since I sprayed it and it still smells faintly like rosy soap. At this point, I'm not as enthused by it anymore as I was during the majority of my wear, but that's okay - nobody expected perfumes to last infinitely long and this one stayed a good while. It's an easy wear when it's cold outside and you'd still like to wear something not too heavy. It's a bit sweet but only slightly so, it's a bit bitter but not too much, it's a bit spicy but more in the bright kind of way than in the oriental one. If you like rose-dominant scents in general, you should definitely give this one a try. If not, maybe still put your nose to it - you might find something you like here.

ENG / This fragrance has a lot to tell, and it does so brilliantly. Its name is not chosen randomly; it is elegant yet unapproachable, aggressive, and sensual. The rose is at the perceptual center, but it's the chorus of other notes that makes it unique, this is not a noble or virginal rose; it's a dark rose crushed on the couches of a club. The top notes create an almost boozy or vinyl-like thrust, in the best sense of the term. The flowers blend perfectly, and after such a preamble, they acquire unexpected characteristics. What remains on the skin is a floral resin that impeccably maintains the perfume's identity. The evocative power is immense, at least for me. It's aggressive yet playful, like a Madrid nightclub in the 80s-90s. It's artificial but also unapologetically true to itself, a declaration of power and blithe indifference. ITA / Questa fragranza ha un sacco da raccontare e lo fa bene, il suo nome non è affatto messo a caso, è elegante ma al tempo stesso inavvicinabile, aggressiva e sessuale. La rosa è al centro percettivo ma è il coro delle altre note che la rende unica, questa non è una rosa nobile o virginale, è una rosa scura schiacciata sui divanetti di un club. Le note di testa creano una spinta quasi alcolica o vinilica nella migliore delle accezioni, i fiori si innestano perfettamente e dopo un preambolo del genere acquisiscono connotati non scontati. Quel che resta sulla pelle è una resina fiorita che mantiene l'identità del profumo in maniera impeccabile. Il potere evocativo è enorme, almeno per me, è aggressivo ma giocoso come una discoteca madrilena negli anni 80-90, è artificioso ma al contempo non nasconde quel che è, una dichiarazione di potere e menefreghismo.
