Exit The King

Exit The King is completely unisex. Don’t let the name suggest otherwise. Very clean and inviting scent. An almost overwhelming sensation of cleanliness, but not too harsh. The epitome of clean. If it had a color, this fragrance would be pure white like a blank canvas. A person steps out of the shower, skin still damp but pure, the scent of bar soap still clinging to them, every inch of skin has been washed. Calm, trustworthy, and attractive. Not flashy or overly complex. It is the scent of someone who is safe, approachable and genuine. Neither too young nor too old. Androgyny. That's what this fragrance is. Unlike some soap-inspired fragrances (looking at you, Maison Margiela), this one avoids smelling way too artificial or synthetic. It’s fresh, airy, and smells like real, high-quality soap. There's also an essence of something "fatty" or ever so slightly lactonic in here that smells identical to a soap bar. It doesn’t immediately register as “someone wearing perfume,” but rather as someone who just naturally smells incredible. There's no sharpness, no overwhelming spice or sweetness as long as you do not overapply it. For a niche fragrance, this is an exceptionally safe blind buy. I'm in no rush to buy this one, but I'll keep it in mind. It could work as a pick-me-up kind of daily wear fragrance, I'm just not a diehard soap scent lover so I'm hesitant to buy something like this over ELDO's Fat Electrician instead as a clean scent.

I got a 15ml tester of Exit the King because the name intrigued me. I finished EtK way faster than I thought I would, then I purchased the 50ml bottle, and I've just emptied it today. Most people won't like the way it smells upon first spray, due to the sharpness of the aldehyde combined with the spiciness of the pepper and timur. Personally, I love the way it smells; it's heavy on the soap but dries down to a nice floral scent that stays with you for a pretty long time. The floral scent might remind people of their grandmas? Listen, I was born and raised in Hong Kong, old people here smell like menthol and camphor (which I also like), so I don’t really associate the scent with the elderly. But I like it; it's super comforting to me, like a fabric softener lol. I like the ambroxan because it adds an airy touch to the scent, but my friend said it smelled a little like a plasticky magazine, so maybe that and the industrial soap smell might be off-putting for some. I usually like spraying this onto my pyjamas after I change into them, or onto my clothes before I leave for work. On skin, it lasts about ~5-6 hrs, and on fabric, i.e., a winter coat or scarf, it lasts longer than a workday.

The ultimate "fresh-out-of-the-shower" scent. Exit the King was an instant love for me. On the first spray, it presents as a remarkably lean, elegant, and effortlessly fresh soapy scent. It manages to take the DNA that we know from classic "blue" shower gel fragrances and elevates it into something much more refined—think of a luxurious, hard white bar of soap, crisp and sharp. After wearing it through a full day, my rating hasn't wavered—it’s a perfect 10/10. On skin, it develops into a spicy, aromatic soap with delicate floral and aldehydic nuances that make the whole experience incredibly uplifting. It’s clean, it’s professional, and it has that "put-together" vibe that is perfect for my daily life.. For the price, this is a steal for a niche fragrance of this quality. If you’re looking for a signature scent that smells like you’ve just stepped out of a high-end shower and are ready for a productive day, this is it. Note: I don't actually own this fragrance; I am writing this review based on my experience with the official Etat Libre d'Orange discovery set.

I admit, I ordered a decant of this because of the name. I needed to know what the fall of patriarchy smells like. Unsurprisingly, in my opinion, it leans quite feminine. I’m wearing it for the first time, and am surrounded by a cloud of roses and airy soap bubbles. It reminds me of much older floral fragrances, but doesn’t seem old fashioned at all. I like it. Too soon to say whether it is a love or how long it lasts on me. It smells like taking a shower with an old fashioned soap like ivory out among the rose garden. I’m also 100% certain that Glinda the Good Witch, floating around in her bubble in The Wizard of Oz, smells exactly like THIS and you won’t convince me otherwise.

Was very surprised to have liked this more than almost anything else in the ELDO sample box. Ended up using the entire sample bottle quickly! It was the dead heat of summer and Exit the King was such a lovely pick me up during the hot, sticky, busy nights of summer bartending. When my environment (and often my own clothes) ended up smelling like beer, sweat and cigarettes I could count on this perfume for its impressive staying power and fresh cleanliness. All that being said it’s now the pits of winter and this has become my signature sent. I miss the roundness I felt from it in the warmer months but this is nonetheless my favorite everyday scent😊🛁☁️🪷

Wow! I sampled this on my husband and it was sooooo good and fresh on a sweaty and hot summer day. Very sharp and clean scent that I could smell all through the day - I couldnt stop thinking about it and praising it in my head. It has definately pepper and very green fresh flowers too, lovely rose after rain. Very suitable for hot weather and good sillage, lasted about 5 hours too. I dont think I have ever smelled anything like it and I wouldnt say it to be a general manly smell either, but definately leaning masculine. Definately in love with it at this point and heat of the summer!

i couldve sworn ive written a review for this fragrance but turns out i havent? anyway. what a scent!!! clean, soapy, so old-timey, but nowhere near grandma territory; its undoubtedly chic ("oh, dont you start using that filthy little word, chic! whoever invented that ought to be spanked in public..."), while also bringing forth an almost... medieval vibe? the moss, maybe, or the rose... the rose is not screechy at all, not rubbery - thank god - but its also very prominent, taking center stage. amazing scent. expensive-smelling and masterfully blended. ELDO youve done it again!

got a sample, telling you what i told a friend “Exit the king kinda smells like when i would visit family in cuba and they had these rose scented bars of soap. Like it’s soapy, but also like latin, or like 3rd world country soap. Not that that’s bad at all. It just makes me feel like its a soap used by an emperor. It’s also kinda rainy weather.” I like it a lot personally. I think i find an issue trying to strike a balance between the floweryness, earthiness, and soapyness i like and this is a pretty good combo, if it seems to lean a little masculine for me

This gives me nostalgia of a memory I’ve never had but one that I wish I had. It’s super unique. I think of this scent as someone who’s taken an open shower outside their little cabin in the damp rainforest during a light rain with an ivory white soap bar, and got into their fresh & clean white linen clothing after. After, they go outside and take a walk down to the hammock that’s tied between two mossy trees between a bunch of foliage that’s damp and dewy from the recent rainstorm. A clean, soapy scent that has a subtly creeping mossy aspect. It’s amazing!

I love a soapy fragrance that isn't your standart laundry or bath foam scent. This smells like a mossy peppery rose on my skin. Lilly of the valley gives it a honey-like accord. It definitely reminds me of Soir de Lune by Sisley (one of my favorite fragrances of all time, the chypre of all chypres in my humble opinion) but it's more modern and clean. ELDO has some major hits and some disappointments, but this is a very well executed unique chypre. It suits every occasion, gender or season. It's a timeless clean and fresh scent with some edge. I adore it.

Amazing clean scent! Just got a sample of it and was surprised with the longevity despite being a fresh clean scent. Still smelling other ELDOs but for now this is my favorite. You get a fresh soapy smell in the opening which drys down into a clean garden scent. It’s like taking a bath in expensive flowery soap! On my skin I get around 7-8 hours of longevity. Although in the last 1-2 hours it is just a skin scent. I wish the dry done was a bit more unique but overall a 9.5/10

Tried my sample during the summer, and must say I was on the fence even after second use as during opening, for a minute or so there was something putrid smelling. It passed soon enough just could not put my finger on it... Out of boredom, was reaching back to my sample box and took this one out again. Oh boy, it's so much better now in this cold(ish) weather. The notes seem to have come together! Does it smell like a luxe soap? Yes. I dig it a lot now.

Bought this as a blind buy based on the fragrance description and the notes. And for the first time in a long time, the marketing team for the brand indeed earned their living. Wearing this creation brings a smile to my face as it continues to serve up the notes like a precious book... chapter by chapter without hesitating on a single one. Unusual? yes. Beautiful? definitely. A second bottle? Already ordered. Exit the King! This one is for the people!

First it smells like shaving foam, then it changes to a soapy scent. It's amazing how it lasts longer than most other soapy scented perfumes. The other day I wore it to work and a colleague complimented me, saying, "Wow! It smells nice!!" In Japan, where it's hot and humid and people are often close to each other, the first preference is odorless, followed by a soapy scent, so I think this is a natural reaction.

Immediately yes, take all my money. Everything about this fragrance screams after a shower with fresh breeze coming through open windows. Very unisex and though it's a bright and airy fragrance I do think there is still a sexy depth to it with the pepper and patchouli. Another love from the sample set... and another I am unsure if I want for myself or my boyfriend. Definitely worth getting your nose on this one!

I am completely addicted to this one and i keep returning to it! This one smells like you have just entered a garden of roses, but there are a lot of people smoking nearby wearing very stylish but minimalistic outfits. It is a party, an exclusive fancy party but only for people of a particular taste. On my nose i can smell the roses and smoke and pepper but somehow on my skin it doesnt get soapy.

This smells like "deep woods OFF", if you've ever worn the bug repelling spray, in thr best way imaginable. If you, like me, have always had a weird thing for the smell of OFF(I know I'm not the only one out there)then you have to smell this. With that said, I really like this. It's wearable, clean, unisex leaning lightly masculine, and it is actually soapy. Addicting. 8.5/10

A really fancy and likable piece of soap. Fresh, clean, soapy floral perfume that many of my friends actually like. My girlfriend actually complimented this (which is very rare) and urged me to get the full bottle. OK to somewhat good longevity (around 6hrs @4-5 sprays around neck, 27C warmer days). I might actually get the full bottle, if I can get a good deal online.

This is a beautiful unisex leaning masc, as a girl I'd totally wear this. It is a luxurious after shower fragrance for me, good for nights in the Fall and Winter. It reminds me of a room with wooden walls, a California King sized bed, dim warm wall lights, and a soft robe. Great longevity and stability, linear fragrance that barely changes throughout the wear.

i really enjoy this. its soooooo calming. reminds me of my aunt's apartment when I was little. I specifically remember how clean it smelled. its nostalgic and clean and fuzzy. My boyfriend said this smelt just like a catalog you would get in the mail, an old school cosmopolitain magazine or something. Like scented paper. This is delicate and engulfing.
