Ambra

In late autumn my forest is gray. In late autumn my forest is cold and you can feel the upcoming winter in the breeze. Where four weeks ago there was busy activity everywhere with the many forest animals buzzing around to build up stocks, there is now a tense silence. Where mushrooms in all shapes and colors adorned the forest floor in the sunlight and the autumn wind boldly swung colorful leaves off the trees, there is silently wafting grey fog. What in one moment almost seems oppressive can be unbearably beautiful in the next moment when the low sun penetrates the fog: Countless drops of water on the trees glistening in all colors of the rainbow and the forest floor is warmed up by precious rays of sun, emitting the smell of pine resin and pine needles into the clear, cool air. In this moment I feel incredibly warmed by those few rays of sunshine and at complete ease and reassured. Yet the sun disappears and with it all colourful water drops and my forest becomes blurred again in gray, but I take that smile with me, knowing the colours and beauty are still there, just a ray of sun away. Etro Ambra represents this scenery to me like a fragrant image, being meanwhile aromatherapy, comfort blanket, optimistic encouragement and seducer all at once. There is a dry- almost bitter resin, cool woody notes, my cloudy forest in grey while being not unpleasant, but frozen and distant until the sun bathes the scenery in a warm light: vanilla and opopanax add a dry and beautiful warmth, fresh fir resin lend an almost delicious - edible appearing feel which is eventually supplemented with myrrh and incense to gain more depth. Complex, adaptable, centering, I love this scent and to me it was actually THE discovery of the last year while I have been testing quite a many fragrance. What acts as a centering and calming aromatherapy for me, seams to be pretty appealing to people surrounding me: It appears Ambra has quite a "come closer" effect. To my nose this one makes a lovely fragrance for men and women, a little goes a long way 2-3 sprays and I am surrounded by a soft smelling halo, keeping me warm and smiling while hiking in my cold and grey autumn's forest.

Nice and slightly unusual amber experience - maybe a good one for entering to the world of amber. The scent opens with zesty notes of lemon, bergamot and even coriander is detectable. This phase is not long lasting, more like a whiff of the citrussy freshness. The close-to-skin drydown comes almost instantly after. The light sillage has some gourmand qualities with caramel notes discussing quietly with amber. But this is not all-over-your-face type of sweetness, there is some clean and sober (not soapy) note making the experience very enjoyable and unobtrusive. Edit. I think that it is still the fir needles or some very fresh resins... On me this scent certainly shows its feminine side, but I'll bet that men who enjoy Boss Bottled would welcome this less recognizable and similarly softly seductive fragrance as a great option. I'm on the verge on liking and loving this one! Edit. I'm loving it - definitely bottle-worthy. An amazing balance with sweetness and sophistication. A great bitter note stays on skin and prevents it to become too syrupy. The woodsy resins are amazingly round and gentle but sure give this fragrance some character. Not necessarily an instant winner for amber lover in its elegant lightness, but you definitely should give this one some time to grow on you.

I am someone who doesn't gravitate to amber fragrances, but I took a chance on a blind buy of Etro's Ambra. It's definitely far less gooey, cozy, and vanillic than some ambers. It shares a DNA with all of the Etro fragrances I've tried - herbal, dusty, spicy, minimal. With Ambra, fir resin is the most prominent accent, giving the perfume a cool, green, spacious, aerial feeling. I also get some incense, a tiny bit of the geranium, a hint of patchouli. Underneath it all though, this is all about the amber accord - gummy, resinous, and slightly sweet. I think there is also an ambergris/ambroxan accord alongside the amber. There is a sparkling, luminescent, slightly salty aspect to this perfume. From memory, it reminds me a LOT of Ambre Nuit by Dior, but less sweet, and stripped of the big rose note.

Amber and vanilla with an exotic vibration. Fresh to open with herb like geranium and lemony citrus--not too sharp, but just enough to trigger those glands that make your mouth water. The nuance of fir resin adds some clarifying outdoor air. Opoponax is also detectable with its uplifting, spiked resin feel that hooks me and keeps me entranced. Labdanum contributes an ethereal, fresh musk-like accord, like a delicate, powdery flower that knows how to project. Styrax gives some body and extension to the vanilla, diluting its syrupy qualities while giving some depth along with radiant amber. Woods truly diffuse the weight creating the most wonderfully wearable texture. Full bottle? Yes please. Beautiful and arresting to the senses, Ambra is one that gives a feeling of comfort and peace.

Beautiful amber. It's very warming, cozy, yet fresh and crisp at the same time, if that's possible? At least that's how it affects me. I think it's one of the loveliest amber perfumes I've ever tried. It's got a gorgeous oriental smell, and a wonderful earthy woodsy sweet, yummy dry-down. Fantastic. It's such a lovely, classy perfume. I'm no good at describing perfumes, I wish I was, but all I can say is I love Ambra by Etro. It's very feminine, strong, rich, sweet, woodsy, resiny, slightly spicy, comforting and it lasts for a good long time on my skin. For about 12 hours I can smell it in the air around me, and so can others (who I often get compliments from), and after that I can still smell it a little bit on my skin. It's such a good perfume.

First of all, Yaaay... I can't believe I'm the first to review this in 2012! I just bought one and I have never been more in love with anything else than this! The opening just blew me away, mystical, sour, rich, sweet, whiskey, arabian nights. Then in 20 minutes it changes into this warm, homey vanillic scent. A subtle invitation. On top of that, the bottle is a masterpiece itself. I got a limited engraved bottle, which is very rare. Etro should deserve more credits for its fragrances; and originality as a fashion house. Love Etro. -Mr. Almond-

I'm always slow to write a review of a scent I've bought blindly. Ambra opens with burst of spicy, medical patchouli which I as a patchouli dislaker have to get used to. After the first seconds it turns to the best, warm, sensual scent which I greatly love. There is still the dark spices, but working perfect together with resins. A must for patchouli lovers as it is very noticable. And even for patchouli dislaker's as the patchouli here works perfectly and gives this dark, gothic, but very warm and comfy feeling.

questa è una delle ambre che più mi piace perchè pur essendo calda e resinosa ha un che di vibrante che la rende adatta anche a qualche spruzzo estivo! onesta, pulita, quasi minimale, si sostiene con l'ottimo benzoino, e benchè la piramide appaia piuttosto complessa io qui ci sniffo solo (e scusate se è poco!) un'ambra elegante e raffinata. per chi volesse avvicinarsi al meraviglioso mondo degli orientali/ambrati senza incorrere in profumi troppo grevi (ma splendidi!) consiglio questo gioiellino. buonissimo!

This is a nice quality vanilla-amber. Amber is a note I often have trouble with because it frequently smells synthetic and thus gives me a headache. It is a lovely woody amber. I smell the fir very well, and the vanilla is not too sweet. It's a light perfume, sillage is not big, and the amber is translucent, almost has a watery quality. Makes me think of what it might be like to lounge under a palm tree along the bank of the Nile.

Beautiful, strong, and elegantly designed. I wonder weather it suits young dandies as well, and if it suits a daily routine, but really, perhaps it doesn't matter, because you'll fall in love with this one anyway. Ah yes, don't forget: it's for men, either young or not so young. ****

Ambra Etro is a classic for a reason! It's warm, inviting, and just smells luxurious. The amber is definitely the star of the show, but it's balanced beautifully with the woody and spicy notes. I get compliments on this fragrance all the time.

ambra resinosa meravigliosissima perchè non troppo calda

Together with Pegaso, Etro Ambra was a real speed love for me. I tried them in the store and wanted to just take both bottles home with me right away (which I luckily didn't do.) It was like a drug for me for one night but in the morning my love was gone and I didn't really even want a new dose. Etro Ambra was something totally new for me as I hadn't been introduced to the amber scent before. When I first smelled it it felt so beautifully soft, sweet but in a "dry" way, nothing syrupy in it. There was even a hint of something that smelled like my mother which only made me love it even more. I tried it on and I was disappointed for a brief moment but as soon as the juice dried down it started smelling divine again. I smelled mostly ambra and vanilla. It was so soft it was the "your skin but better" type. I was very scared that it would fade from my skin and I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist. I had to take a shower as I was going to attend a party so I wrapped up my wrist to keep the smell from fading. It worked pretty well but the scent still didn't last on my skin for more than a few hours. So that's how crazy I was about it BUT in the next morning I didn't really want to smell it anymore. It had been something so new and exhilarating but in the morning I realized it was also a bit odd, like it wasn't from the same world. I haven't gone back to it ever since. Could it be that I loved it so much that day because I was starving to death? Could I have gravitated towards the vanilla and something that almost smelled like chocolate because I was hungry? That would explain why I didn't want it anymore later when I wasn't hungry anymore.

Very incense leaning amber perfume, has that bright, freshness of olibanum/elemi/mastic in the opening and beginning of the experience but that could just be an expression of the labdanum here. Clearly it’s a classic accord of amber in that it does have something of a dryness, warmth and gentle rounding of vanilla but feels less the stuffy ‘old book’ vibes and much more radical, and spaciously uncluttered. I like it. Etro do smell something of yesterday, even feeling a little ‘aged’ (possibly because they are now?) but with a freshness to them (in terms of ideas) and quality. Yeah I like it, I mean I wouldn’t go too mad, it’s an amber perfume at the end of the day and isn’t trying to be super complex or artistically challenging, but for a perfume connoisseur who fancies something a bit more scarce and unusual from a collecting point of view, Etro is a brand which garners some Kudos there as well.

Mmmm...delicious. It starts out reminding me very quickly of Ambre Precieux...but dries down to a wonderfully rich, lightly sweetened, (dare I say, carmelized?) amber. Where Ambre Precieux stays robust, vibrant, almost spicy, and intoxicating, the entire time, Ambra comes out with a bang like a showgirl in Vegas, but then dries down to a delicate and playful vixen. It has just the teensiest bit of vanilla that makes this fragrance perfect to my nose. It's definitely cozy and comforting and will be wonderful to wear in the upcoming cooler months (if I can wait that long...). It lasts for hours and hours on me! I've thoroughly enjoyed getting whiffs of it throughout the day. Definitely a great amber to have in your collection!

Beautiful oriental fragrance, Ambra is so soft blending with the skin & irresistible feminine. Stayed quite long on my skin, acting more woody, slightly heavy just at the beginning. This is not an everyday fragrance. For my taste too much of vanilla in base notes, but no matter what it is warm and woody and ideal for cold winter. Rarely in the mood for vanilla, reminds me a bit on L'Occitane Eau de Vanilliers,but this is far finer and more complex olfactory experience.

oh this is so mouthwatering and sensual at the same time, i cannot keep sniffing at my wrist. this is one of the best amber scents i have ever tried, it is even beating Serge Luten's Ambre Sultan. special thanks to Cereza here from whom i got this little precious sample :) and I must agree on the fact that patchouli is at its best just enough to balance the sweetness (myself not being a big fan of excessive patchouli either)

A nice, raw amber scent. Vanilla coke and propolis. Such a weird but successful combo. Edit: Sprayed it on hair and got to much of the good out of it. I smelled many hours like a drunken pirate, lol.

Wanted it to be wonderful but in the end felt nice (in a comfy snuggly way on a cool day). I needed it to be more resilient. Ended up being a lovely room scent rather than a personal scent.
