Once again, Colin Maillard's review takes the words right out of my mouth. ;-) It does have an association with Knize Ten.. I have both now, and applied one of each to my wrists. They're so similar at first. It's like Etro decided to replicate it almost exact, with slightly less complexity. Still it's confounding how they are able to create this aroma with just 5 aromatic ingredients! I have to believe the listing here is short a little. Gomma is a little softer, a little easier to wear (more floral, slightly lighter sillage), but doesn't last quite as long when compared to Knize Ten. This is my experience from the version in the paisley box (gold cap). I suspect the leather note is achieved with birch tar, which has more of a rubbery impression. It's bold and chemical like, and makes it difficult to perceive the other notes, like jasmine and artemisia. But into the dry down, there is some abatement to the rubber note. Difficult for women to wear this, I expect (despite it being offered as unisex). This is one of those thought provoking fragrances you wear to suit your mood. If I was forced to choose between Knize Ten and Gomma, it would be Gomma... unless it was a fresh bottle of vintage Knize Ten! UPDATE: I picked up a newer bottle as well, the version with the large thick cardboard box and purple color band around the middle. It's pretty much the same as it was. And you can find these periodically at cheap prices. GOMMA is a 'best kept secret' fragrance for those who enjoy a fragrance like Knize Ten. Frankly, I prefer it. What a treasure this turned out to be - the perfect fragrance for someone who appreciates cars. I've been wearing this for 3 days straight and I'm not bored at all. Beautiful, elegant, classical construction leather. Knize 10 adjacent but better IMO. The opening is a sparkling aldehede, musk, heliotrope, jasmine with a sliver of green. After the opening and mid subsides you're greeted with a slightly industrial WD-40, a clean white rubber, and a fresh smooth vintage leather. Not like any modern leather, this is classy, old school and not in your face. Imagine a classic show car, painstakingly restored to perfection, clean enough that you could eat off the seats or the dash board. That's what this drydown smells like. A far cry from other car fragrances such SMN Nostalgia (in your face gasoline) or Imaginary Authors Cobra and Canary. This is easily the most elegant, delicate; a dream like car interior with that soft musky heliotrope Etro vibe. Discontinued and hard to find these days, but totally worth it. Do not buy if you are expecting a modern leather like tom ford this will disappoint you. Love at first sniff, as this fits into the "my type of scent" category. Throughout the wearing...this went thru "phases" on my skin, thus reminding me of a few other scents like Bandit...Aramis, Azuree ,Jolie Madam,Habanita,Galop, Cabochard and even a bit of Shalimar. There is a leathery floral vibe....but that part is "dry"...with underlying touch of sweetness....also herbal and animalic. The dry down is when I get almost full on.....Bandit by Robert Piquet (older version). Performance so far is very good. The opening is a "bang!"....and may be off-putting.....but you must let this scent go thru it's course to fully understand/feel it. (IMO) My first Etro purchase.....very happy with this hidden gem...and I look forward to checking out more from this house.

This is a floral leather fragrance in the same vein as Knize Ten (but the leather is more forward here, compared to K10, in which the florals are more forward). I agree with the previous comment that the citrus-artemisia duo gives it a green/bitter kick, making it wearable in warm days, and probably more interesting and wearable than its older brother. Performance is acceptable, and the current honest online pricing doesn't hurt. Should you need only one "old-style" leather under $100, this is it! Spring/Fall days, 30+

I was already pretty impressed with Etro (I could easily pick out 10 I like) and then THIS came out of nowhere--it's quite an amazing scent! Although I've never tried Knize Ten, it feels like a fresher brighter SL Cuir Mauresque with floral shades, very wearable, almost like Dior Cuir Cannage without the womanly/powdery facets. Close to the same league as Hermes Bel Ami but not as masculine (almost unisex). This is my favorite from the house and can easily be someone's signature everyday leather cologne!

Gomma opens wide with a beautiful aldehydic hug which bestows its vintage charm upon this excellent leather. It has the signature Etro quality of materials, a touch of mystery, never overpowering, but persistent, and above all is a lovely take on the leather genre. It’s not called Leather, Cuir, Cuoio or whatever for a reason. It’s Gomma for its distinctive rubbery effect which gives this already wonderful creation its well deserved pinnacle. *****

One of the many in the leather/floral genre that is very pleasing. It is a true leather that has the vintage aura to it; it's refined but with a touch of animalics and smoky. It's herbal in the opening and then the jasmine amplifies the dirty part a bit. There are some powdery and soapy accords that go well with the vintage leather and I like that it's never too sweet. Very nice! Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 9/10 Projection: 6/10

This is a fab unisex leather led scent. The lemon and artemisia give it a novel and fresh twist. You could imagine this to be a heavy scent because of the leather but it isn't. I like the bitter almost aniseed twist and the lemon gives some zest. It's fine to wear in the heat. Moderate sillage and longevity.

What it is to be a man in a bottle.

I have found a vintage bottle of this stuff. First sniff, yes reminds me of knize ten. But, sniffing from the hand is often different than the smell of the air around you. And yes, the air around you (projection) smells like burnt rubber. Heard that this perfume was reformulated. Reformulation 2010: Cap was changed form gold to silver. And the package looks different. They also decided to stamp Eau de Toilette instead of Eau de Cologne on it. Maybe new laws gives the opportunity. But my bottle from 1998 (EdC) smells so intensive. Only one spray and the room smells of this scent. Even Patou pour homme couldn`t beat it. It ́s a Tester, maybe they put Parfum Extrait in it. Thumb up.

Gomma is a fragrance type leather made in the style of the legendary Knize Ten, although Gomma is kinder and gentler than this. It is noteworthy in comparison, an herbal facet due to artemisia, but the most notable and important is the average grade that brings the light jasmine gives an animal and floral point that defines Gomma distancing here Knize Ten. Leather chord seems very good and somewhat artificial. Overall, it is an aroma, smooth, elegant and wearable for everyday with a nice trail that plays well at short distances and for my taste should have a little more time. Rating: 6.5

Soapy leather, very clean. Not as rubbery as Bvlgari Black, less powdery, but still automotive in a very good way. Completely unisex. Great for any season. Unfortunately, lasting power really is that of a cologne, which is a true shame.

I am in love with Gomma since the 1996 when I discovered this gem into a multibrand boutique (boutiques were the only places where Etro's fragrances were distribuited) I am totally agree with the opinon of Colin... "Creepy" is maybe to much as description but this perfume is gothic-chypre I say. A face powder for a gay vampire, and yes Gomma is better than Knize Ten, perhaps I prefer Gomma because I found it for first, but anyway I find Knize Mono where Gomma is Stereo. Even if i was in my 20s I have always loved the vintage vibe perfumes despite to the disapproval of my firends. Once that year (1996) a friend of mine make me test some scents he had on the wrist after a walk into a mall, and talking about one of those fragrances he said "I like this but it sounds too teenager". Then with a declared ironic voice I said "mine also is too teenager. Don't you think so?" and I let him sniff my wrist. Gomma was there obviously. He said "Yes. This can belong to a tap dancer in the middle of her 70 years, who lives in a parisian garret ..and she believe to be still at the height of its success." I always think to this sentence every time I wear Gomma but it is not the only reason for smile. This is velvety scent that make you feel good, rich and dandy. Pure Decadence. Inside the box of the first edition with rectangular base was written: An exotic, aromatic fragrance is strengthened by the precious touches of Egyptian jasmine and strongly influenced with elegance by the Amber scented base, leather, subtly chypre. I have no idea why Fragrantica lists just 6 notes. Flightiness? True new edition? Officialy notes written on the book of perfumes Etro which you can find into their Boutiques (date 2014) Are: Top Bergamot Lemon Tarragon Carvi Artemisia Lavender Heart Rose Jasmine Ylang Cloves Base Birch Sandalwood Patchouli Cedarwood Vetiver Vanilla Well, in perfumery you can declare what you want there are no laws similar to the food ones. So maybe Etro lie. I can't say. The name Gomma is one of the worst given to a scent in the history of perfumery ever. I find similarities with Krasnaya mockba or what a hell they write!

Leather perfumes are often defined by the 'leather +' principle. Leather + citrus (Azurée), leather + green (Bandit), leather + tar (Lonestar Memories), Leather + cumin (Rien.) These scents are all so different to me, but I enjoy them all. Gomma’s leather is defined by florals and amber. But its plus-one is really rubber. I find that the sweet, powdery, slightly burnt rubber that is prominent from the start lasts all the way through. I would categorize Gomma as a leather, but my nose remembers it as a rubber. The amber sweetness is powdery, but it doesn’t have vanilla, and therefore keeps off Bvlgari Black’s turf. Gomma is direct but not aggressive in the least, and so stays off Knize Ten's turf. I appreciate that this fragrance is in EDC concentration. It allows the fragrance to remain light despite its peculiar timber. Gomma is not so much linear as a bit of a striptease. Initially the notes are threefold---leather, floral, amber. But the leather is leathery rubber with a bit of tar; the floral is violet with an abstract white floral; the amber is powdery, sweet and full. The accord remains even as components fall away and in the end, you have a sweet, violet rubber.

I happened to smell Gomma by accident. I was in a store where I usually buy vintage fragrances and the SA, knowing my taste, suggested me to try this composition before leaving. As I was just showered and completely unscented I agreed for a full wearing... Gomma's opening is quite impressing. A rubber effect (actually leather) that is penetrating but not too strong, slightly smoky with artemisia adding an astringent aspect that's pretty enjoyable but at the same time somehow challenging. After a couple of minutes some floral patterns and amber make their appearance and a strong sensation of "deja-vu" started to materialize in my head...it took a couple more minutes to realize that Gomma was incredibly similar to Knize Ten. Well, actually much more polished and toned down but still quite alike. Being a Knize Ten lover, I can't say that Gomma smells bad but I honestly expected something more original. Overall this composition could be a decent alternative for anyone who doesn't have the guts to face Knize Ten but be aware that the former name of Gomma was Knize Nine and, Knize Nine < Knize Ten. It's not my opinion, it's mathematics. Rating: 7.5/10

My number one leather, as in the one that actually smells like leather to me. It so vividly smells like getting into the back of a sorta messily lived-in, very hot, closed-up, leather upholstered vintage car, that the perfume stuns me into daydreams and memories of my dad's old backseats in summer. The really genius thing? My subconscious can actually detect how this brilliant, ultra plush and juuuust kinda-grimy car accord is constructed as an intricate puzzle of herbal notes. So my senses accept it as natural, never harsh or chemical. Knize Ten is a totally fair comparison, as would be something like Macho Man by Nabeel if you completely exorcised all fruitiness; Bel Ami; and the base of the original Dunhill. The difference is that mostly all the other leathers and especially Knize Ten smell synthetic to me, like a manufactured smell. And Knize Ten has that artificial cherry top, like cherry cough syrup. Beautiful.

Lived-in leather. Love it. Living for it. It's like rays of sunshine through the window that show the dust floating in the atmosphere. And the opening just shines on my skin, a velvety sheen of citrus and artemisia with the a soapy leather than takes me to the best 'elsewhere' possible, if that makes any sense...Rugged and unctuous, yet clean. Rough around the edges, but groomed for excellence. The powdery element is restrained but welcome; the florals are green and astringent to counterbalance, with violet shadows of vulnerability; and the amber base is the bittersweet sunset, full-bodied, rich, and full of flavor. This baby hums for hours, no doubt. It's the kind of fragrance that I'd imagine Marshall Sam McCloud would wear...anyone remember that show?

To me this is a light version of The Knize Ten. It doesn't have that leather blast at first that you get with TKT, and it doesn't have the strong oriental/ambery base, but the leathery aspect is quite similar after an hour or so. I get no rubber, pencil erasers, or anything like that, but rather a burnt quality, which doesn't last very long. The floral aspect serves to soften this up, but is not especially prominent otherwise. So, unless you need the "in your face" leather of TKT or want its leather/oriental qualities, you can save some money and get this instead (since most who consider these scents are looking for the strong leathey aspect). The projection/"sillage" on Gomma might be a bit less but longevity is excellent.

Gomma is very fresh and efficient, good office scent.The first time I tried Gomma, I got the burnt rubber note(smells like eraser), not leather. It was really bad for me, but... Second try was the charm, I guess so. Now I smell a strong similarity to Tabac Blond, which for me is perfect! My only wish would be for Gomma to longer lasting.

This smells like Gres Cabochard plus burnt rubber on me. I have layered it with SL Jeux de peau (weird, I know) and the effect is startling. The sweet milk in JDP complements the harshness and efficiency of Gomma and creates a perfect scent for the cold January we ́ve been having.
