Heliotrope

This is for people who are looking for specific type of scent. Almond, vanilla, creamy and slightly powdery. I do get a small amount of cherry like you would from almond extract, but for me its not a main focus nor does it last long it just blends and gives it a brightness that would lack if it was just a vanilla centric frag. It's more of a cream instead of powder, but it has the diffuseness of a powdery scent. It could be compared to Farmacia SS. Annunziata Cara but not as powdery, creamier. Almond Harmony, but not as cherry or resinous. Confetto, but absolutely no licorice note. Dragee Reminence isn't quite as well blended and a bit more fruity? LT Piver is much more powdery and much more cherry (but still amazing for the price and only gets better with age if you store it correctly). Iv'e never been able to get my hands on Mandorla so I couldn't speak to its similarities. Jour de Fete's grain note is much more pronounced, giving it a rounder, much more complex, less vanilla profile. Dolce Acqva is the closest, but not quite. It really is its own scent and so, so comforting for bedtime. Anytime, really if your in the mood for it. But I wouldn't say it's a safe blind buy, even if you love all the above simply bc it is so similar that it may not be worth it for you. The vanilla is very dense, as a consequence it does go "dolls head" or plastic ~ y, just a little before it becomes really creamy for me. I'd test before you buy. I blind bought and it took a couple months before I could really smell it's differences and this is a favorite scent profile for me. I think its discontinued but I bought mine from Fragnet, so you can still get it for a reasonable price for now. But I think that if you have any or a few of the above mentioned scents and if you aren't just crazy for this type of perfume, it may be overkill to have all. I'm crazy.🙃

Another good “Quarantine Perfume” choice, with a comforting almond and vanilla note, and coupled with the namesake flower, heliotrope. I’m getting massive silage and longevity from my dauber vial. When I first applied, my husband in the adjacent room asked if I was trying a new perfume. Incredible for an EDT. Opening is a heavy dose of almond extract, I would classify it as 80% natural and 20% synthetic...with a little bit of a plastic vibe. That may sound like a negative but I really like it. It’s not overly sweet, it’s more dusty on my skin. The base is where my interest piques: I’m getting less almond and more scent nuances. Heliotrope (this perfume) is mingling with other flowers, a clean musk, and resins. Heliotrope (the flower) emits a licorice and cherry scent—hence the nickname “cherry pie flower”—and it pairs beautifully with almond. It’s like the very definition of a gourmand floral. I’ve grown three varieties in my life and when planted en masse, the scent is narcotic and distinctive. The past few summers I’ve grown heliotrope in large containers next to my favorite lounge chair so I could relax in it’s distinctive aroma. Until a week ago, I had never sampled anything from this brand. So far Etro is batting a 1000, and I am in danger of wanting to add to my bloated perfume closet. This is wonderful. You have been warned.

Oh, Heliotrope, how I love thee. I’ve never smelt real heliotrope or very many perfumes featuring it, to be frank, so I can’t identify the note or its prevalence in this fragrance. What I am able to put a name to, though, is almond! (And yes, I know heliotrope can smell almond-y — as previously stated, I’m just going by what I know.) I didn’t know if I was going to like the prominent almond note, fearing it may veer too cherry-ish for my taste, but it’s so well done that I just have to adore it. Paired with the vanilla, I am made to envision an almond croissant, its delicate flaky folds dusted with powdered sugar. Despite this mental image, I don’t find Heliotrope to be overly gourmand. The almond does subside with time, leaving behind a soft, lightly powdery vanilla with a clean, ethereal feeling to it. I imagine this is how an angel smells. Sillage is light, but remains detectable, which I consider a plus - any louder, and this fragrance may become cloying. It is so very close to being perfect. My sole complaint with Heliotrope is its longevity. It’s quite alright for an EDT, but still entirely too short for me - best case scenario is 5 hours. Even still, I’m thankful for that much. This could last for 5 minutes and I’d still adore it. Full bottle coming soon, perhaps...

Heliotrope by Etro is a paragon of beauty for almond & heliotrope lovers. It has become my gold standard to which I compare all other heliotrope scents. It’s warm, slightly spicy, bitter yet sweet, syrupy and balsamic, powdery and delicate all at once. I always saw it in the “reminds me of” box, and dismissed it because I assumed it’d be too similar to scents I already own. But no- It is a combination of the BEST aspects of many of my favorite perfumes. Farmacia SS. Annunziata Cara’s nutty, sugary candied almonds and fluffy, sweet caramel are present throughout Etro Heliotrope’s stages. Almond Harmony’s cherry-like tonka-almond combo, along with it’s rich and resinous balsams are in the base. L.T. Piver’s soft, powdery, vanillic heliotrope lingers on the skin as Etro dries and fades, becoming an ethereal, airy whisper throughout the remainder of its lifespan. I could draw more comparisons, but you get the idea. I truly think many perfumes have drawn their inspiration from Etro, and it’s no surprise why. I’m heartbroken because this is discontinued. I’m so, so glad I obtained this before it completely disappears, but it’s tragic I hadn’t discovered it sooner. If Etro brings this back, especially as an EDP, it would be a dream come true!

I had to grab a bottle of this upon learning that it was discontinued, and as a lover of heliotrope, and having used heliotropin in my own perfume making experiments, this is undoubtedly a HELIOTROPE soliflore. I am assuming most reviewers here have not smelled heliotrope flowers and the closest association that they could make is the accompanying almond, which is for sure there, but to my nose, serves as a supporting note to build the heliotrope accord (as are the vanilla and iris). In the heart, I sense some similarities with Guerlain Après l'Ondée, though Etro is more a winsome smile to Guerlain's melancholic reflection. The cherry pie warmth and Play Doh character of Etro Heliotrope and of true heliotrope flowers is what makes them so irresistible to me. The dry down is powdery, but not exceedingly so, and the base of tolu balsam and peru balsam, with their leathery, darkly resinous but mildly sweet qualities, prevent the composition from being too light in the loafers, so its unisex, just find the right occasion. I personally would find this most pleasing at night before bedtime, much like Royal Bain de Caron.

Oh I can't believe this. I spritzed this on and thought I had arrived in Heaven on Angels wings. Real Angels not those girls flitting around in underwear. It takes me to a place where no other perfume has. It is sweet and powdery and it reminds me of my grandmother, so that is probably why I am so in love with it. I bought this on a whim blind buy not expecting too much, but realizing that I am a Heliotrope girl. This one is done just perfect for my chemistry. Good luck trying to find it. You cannot find it easy nor even purchase it on the Etro website. Perhaps if you call the New York store you might be able to get it. I am so happy I found a bottle on Ebay. For all you girls who love Heliotrope almond powdery and gourmand, you are going to simply adore this. I also love LT PIVER Heliotrope which is impossible to find also. More on this beauty later. That is my opinion from wearing it for 3 days in a row. It lasted long on me, few spritzes took me way into the night. Spray it on your chest, wrists, on your neck and my favorite spot the top of my arms...I could swim in this.

It does start off very strong but this quickly settles down and softens to smell exactly like the white heliotrope I grow every summer. This is the fragrance that is closest to capturing the true beautiful heliotrope note. Bright, sweet but never cloying. So moreish! I also have L'erbolario Mandorla and dont think this smells very similar at all. Mandorla is true almond and lovely in its own right. Heliotrope is very lovely but sadly only really lasts an hour on me before becoming only a skin scent for another hour or two. I readily forgive the poor sillage and average longevity because it's just too wonderful. I've tried many Etro fragrances and this is still their best one.

Omg, I so agree with F_A, pure Amaretto- that I wanted to have in my wardrobe. Dunno how heliotrope smells, but um.. this one- Opens - like almonds with ... a bit citrus, flowers.. Heart- comes fast and smells earthy, almonds again. In my opinion - add thick, buttery vanilla, get Amarena Whim by LL. I so adore this intense, sweet earthy almond liquor heaven with something like cherries in it. My next catch ftw. Although Etro frags are edt(I even thought edc ), their staying power must have envied by random designer fruity floral edp's. Stays long, is intense. And is better, with more character than Hypnotic Poison imo.

I bought Heliotrope blind, and when I got it I sprayed it on and thought Oh what have I done! Too much Play-doh! Throughout the day however I kept getting this horribly addictive whiff floating up my nose.. the endless sniffing resulted in me running upstairs for another hit as soon as I got home. For me this is the "smack" of the frag world. There are days when only Heliotrope will do, the almondy cream does something to my brain. I'm in recovery now.. but it's just like the warnings against cigarettes we had in the UK when I was a kid. "One puff...and you'll soon be in my grasp!".

"Amaretto liquor" ! That was the first thing that came to my mind when I first tried Heliotrope. No powder, no flowers, just amaretto, cherries and roasted almonds on a fluffy and warm vanilla base. Reminds me somehow of Joop Le Bain, another fragrance that I love and rebuy, except Le Bain is not as gourmand as this one. Yeah, and they were both released in 1989. I can already picture myself in a cozy sweater, a cup of cinammon-infused hot chocolate cup in my hands, listening to "Let it Snow " on repeat and wearing Heliotrope on Christmas Eve :) Christmas carols in a bottle

Lovely, soft fragrance that smells of sweet dough and making cookies, and also a little bit like a Cabbage Patch Kid. I imagine big-eyed Precious Moments dolls riding on My Little Ponies. I like this, but it fades so fast. EDIT: Tried it again and I got a lovely cherry note, but then it faded into something that smelled like a candle wick. Then I gave it another chance and it smelled like almonds and fluffy heliotrope clouds. It also lasted longer than usual. Bought a bottle. It's different on me every time, but never unpleasant.

I love Etro fragrances and this, Heliotrope, is no different. It's soft, subtle, classic and beautiful. I love wearing it on its own as a skin scent or layering it with other similar fragrances to give it more depth. I get nothing herbaceous or bitter, nor do I get anything overtly sweet or gourmand. It is just very pretty - a subtle hint of that classic almond scent underpinned by a gentle tonka and musky-vanilla note. I don't get much of the other florals. It is overall very well blended. Happy to have it in my collection.

What a delectably soft and delicious perfume. It's loaded with powdered almonds, but thankfully not sweet enough to cause cavities like Keiko Mecheri's Loukhoum perfumes or Montale's Sweet Oriental Dream. I love sugar, but even those perfumes made me quite nauseous from sugar overload. Etro Heliotrope smells like marzipan and reminds me a little of soft, chewy, Italian pignoli cookies. If you love almond and powder, you must not only try this perfume, but purchase a full bottle!

Almond liqueur on the inhale... Heliotrope powder on the exhale. This stuff is great! A powdered ball of vanilla cookie dough doctored with some almond extract. Makes me want to bake my arm. Wait.. that's not right! It really does smell like delicious dough though. Doh! Good longevity and projection, about average. Thanks so much to everyone on here who recommended this to me. A successful blind buy! ...and the girl and the almonds lived happily ever after.

Does the powdery heliotrope remind of Cuir Beluga by Guerlain, or Réminiscence vanille wich I both love, and i love heliotrope a lot, as well as bitter almond and powdery sweet notes, like baby powder. Like Kenzo Amour? It's also got heliotrope notes. But Cuir Beluga is my fave. I recently bought a Fragonard heliotrope et gingimbre, in the jardins de Fragonard collection. Very nice one. But i clearly prefer the Etro one as a simple cozy heliotrope scent.

Ahh, very, very almondy all the way, I do agree that this is pure amaretto. The scent is very, very sweet, comforting and, yes, inviting. I'd say even sexy. It doesn't have a huge silage in a way that I can't feel it on my self too good, but the others said that the scent is very noticable. Already got my first compliment from a guy working in a grocery shop. So. Must try! But better probbly to test before buy as some might find this scent too sweet.

This perfume reminds a lot l'erbolario mandorla, but i found similarity with Chloé eau de fleurs lavande, that i used a lot in the past. The notes are not the same, but is very similar. By the way i like this one but mandorla by l'erbolario Is better and costs very less than this One! Edit: i sprayed on myself before go to bed it lasts all night and this morning i sniff my arm and smell a sweet adorable powdery vanilla. Love it

Ethereal and playdohy, I loved it. I love the playdoh effect of fragrances like Hypnotic Poison, Confetto and Dolce Acqua (my favorite). The almond is there, not bitter but sweet thanks to the heliotrope, turning it into a fluffy marzipan but ironically not too gourmand. Linear, simple and lovely. This smells exactly like THOO Almond Harmony, I can’t tell them apart. Deliciously sweet playdoh.

this one is quite nice, remind sme a lot of Hypotic poison, but much "cleaner", gentle, like it was his "good" double vs the evil one... lol, just personal view! It's soft, powdery, very marzipan, but not noo sugary. Also reminds me SL Louve, although it's softer. Personally, it's too almondy for me, I prefer bitter almond, the one like Amaretto, that i love in HP.

This is gonna be my wedding scent !! So delicate and soft, like you're not trying, but you are the center of attention. You're there, but you don't realize how much you're appreciated, loved, and liked. When you want no attention, but can't escape it.

One of the first almond scents where it doesn't feel bitter, it just adds warmth, nuttiness to it. It is extremely smooth, delicately sweet. It is a comforting bed scent. A reading scent. I LOVE IT SO MUCH <3

So, I recently became re-intrigued with almond-centric fragrances. I love Xerjoff Italica. Yet after steadily wearing Italica through 3 x 100ml bottles, I felt I needed a break. Decided to purchase some large samples-decants and/or new, unopened (or tester) full bottles of specific almond fragrances. I owned several Etro Fragrances many many moons back. While nice enough, over the years the brand no longer spoke to me because its offerings are (by-and-large) eau de toilette fragrances. With this said, I think it is a well known fact that for edt fragrances, Etro packs a high percentage of essential and fragrant oils into each preparation...closer to what we have become accustomed to with most eau de parfums. Etro Heliotrope! This is a huge WOW for me, it really is. I love the edt; it is such a beautiful fragrance. Etro Heliotrope is NOT a dense, heavy, gourmand-leaning fragrance. Etro Heliotrope opens and wears as light, feminine, ethereal, translucent, ephemeral, bitter-almond, woody, heliotrope fragrance. I adore the opening and wish it lasted a bit longer. Heliotrope opens with a lovely almond note that is somewhat earthy, vegetal, green. The fragrance quickly develops as HELIOTROPE...a fresh, green, slightly-bitter, slightly-almond floral fragrance with other florals and vanilla-balsamic base notes. I recently sampled Une Nuit Nomade Chemin d'Amande. And while I like the fragrance a lot, the overwhelming almond-brioche-pastry smell was a bit too dense for me. I felt suffocated while wearing the fragrance. I LOVE beast mode fragrances. But I felt self-conscious walking around with Chemin d'Amande emitting from my skin. I also had Choupard Feve Tonka, which did not resonate with me. And while almond is definitely present throughout the wear, Heliotrope does not perform as a gourmand fragrance on my skin...no way...not even close. Now, I DO wish Heliotrope performed better. Unfortunately (I knew this going in) the fragrance has limited silage, limited staying power (about 1.5 to 2 hours). However, the blending of the floral, bitter-almond, petitgrain and balsamic notes really work for me! And after much experimentation and consternation, I did purchase a full x 100ml bottle of BDK Velvet Tonka AND I purchased a 75ml bottle of THOO Almond Harmony. Out of all the recent fragrances I purchased and/or sampled, Velvet Tonka and Almond Harmony seem to come closest to what I'm seeking in an almond-centric fragrance that is NOT Xerjoff Italica... Almond Harmony delivers a wonderful floral almond accord without the thick, syrupy, dense overdose of caramel, toffee, sugary vanilla sweetness in Italica.

Opening with very bitter almond and conversely, a sweet caramel note, Heliotrope's powderiness begins within the first minute of its gourmand life. As the fragrance settles onto the skin, Heliotrope smells more like marzipan nougat, the one with chunky nuts and glazed fruit in it. The heliotrope itself, with its floral friends, smells powdery and vanillic, it is very gentle and brings the perfume back from the sheer brink of a diabetic coma. The almond never really lets go even when the creamy base moves in. Traces of Heliotrope cling to the skin for a suprisingly long time considering it is an EDC. My finger keeps hovering over the 'love' button but I really cannot make up my mind. Can I make the commitment?

This Etro perfume is lovely. A smooth, comforting and delicious scent. Sweet vanilla and powdery almonds are the most dominant throughout. I do notice something odd in the top of this, like something that faintly reminds me of almond essence, although that might be the vanilla having a moment on my skin, it never seems to agree with me. This disappears and leaves behind something linear that reminds me of marzipan, and I think I smell more of the heliotrope flower. I love how I can wear flowers that have gourmand nuances, which is an awesome tip for someone who would love to wear something like a vanilla scent but can't due to skin chemistry. Soft to moderate sillage, lasts for about 4-5 hours.

I love heliotrope and almond and have a few perfumes in this category, but when I purchased this one I was looking for something a little more floral heliotrope (like the one growing in my garden) than L T Piver Heliotrope Blanc or Reminiscence Heliotrope. Etro Heliotrope IS a little more complex than the other two but not by much, and although it dries down to a smooth almond, it starts with a strong and bitter amaretto note that lacks any floral quality. Just a sprinkling of sweetness would improve this so much! I think it will be a weekend-at-home scent for me. I may try layering it - almond + flowers sounds good.

could not agree more with the reviewers before me. A little bitter and powdery opening - a la play-doh - but the with time the vanilla introduces itself and smoothens the composition. One of the most natural almond interpretations i have come across so far. my other almond favourite is Montale Amandes Orientales. And Powder Flowers also share a little play-doh :) Regarding Hypnotic Poison - that did not work on me skin and i found it much more artificial. Longevity is all right, 4-5 hours on me.

Tried it recently and it's one of the most powerful and intense EDTs I've come across. Huge longevity and silage. The vanillic qualities of the perfume are lovely. It has a sophisticated créme bruleé feel, with a bit of custardy creaminess, which mingles very nicely with the almonds. However, it is very concentrated, I feel like I would like it much better if it was sheerer. If you don't use it very sparingly, perhaps one spray at the nape of the neck, it will bother the people around you.

I've been knowing this perfume for many years, but never wore it on regular basis. It was never too convincing on my skin. I like heliotrope and almonds, this should be heaven (at least one of heavens) and it isn't. I tried it again from a tester after a few years and all I got was an almondy plastic smell, exactly like toys and old dolls, only a little more bitter and less petrochemical. This is not bad, but on my skin it gets amplified in this way, then it fades in 2 hours.

I have the version in the old box (no idea how it relates to the new one, if it has changed at all). A more delicate version of amaretto liquor, not as syrupy, with a delicious vanilla dry down. I don't feel it's particularly powdery and there is no plastic or play doh note to my nose. Somehow not something I reach for more than once or twice a year, but today, with the cold and rain, it feels right: cozy and sweet.

Delicately sweet (like confectioners sugar), a comforting powdery scent.... It smells like amaretto at first and then marzipan and cherry. I am not a fan of powdery scents, but I love Etro fragrances, so I figured I’d reach outside my comfort zone. This is quite lovely; delicate, but rich, and feminine in my opinion. I couldn’t wear it, but it’s a really beautiful scent.

Sweet and dry almond-heliotrope powder, one-dimensional, but very likable. Unfortunately, many Etro fragrances last only about an hour on my skin, and Heliotrope is no exception. I guess it is a good perfume for layering, because it lacks strength and longevity, but might play the role of a powdery undertone very well.

The almond, powder, and vanilla combine in a really nice way, but it has an after smell that is slightly too sharp like the stamen of a flower. If you're looking for almond, suggest Mazzolari's Alessandro instead. Staying power is nice, and it smells really light and Springy-- perhaps just not for me.

Just finished another Etro. Heliotrope is certainly my favorite Etro so far. Lots of smooth almond with a "burnt" afterglow. However like my previous two Etro's, my preference was to use it as a room fragrance rather than a body fragrance. I have one more Etro in my collection, until then ?????

Beautiful gourmand that smells of Italian baking- light almond wafer type of fragrance. Almost a toxic sweetness without being cloying or candyish. Warning- it was fine on the skin of my arms, but burned like crazy on my neck, and I do not have typically sensitive skin. Wear with caution!

I like almond and heliotrope notes, so I was excited about this scent. However, it doesn’t last long on my skin. I prefer scents like Kenzo Amour for it’s heliotrope note and Xerjoff 1881 for almond, they also last longer. I wish all Etro perfumes had more lasting power

If anyone remembers Oatifix face mask from Lush, this perfume smells insanely similar to it!

A bit dissapointing blind buy. Straight in your face almondy heliotrope that lacks any sophistication at first spray. As it dries down it gets a bit more creamy and wearable. Doesn't smell cheap nor expensive, just OK. I'll give it a chance by layering with something more fresh and fruity for daytime and something more smoky for the evening, perhaps some dark oudy rose. EDIT: I sprayed this on today and asked my 4 year old daughter if I smelled good. She made a surprised face and asked immediately "Mommy, why do you smell like play-doh?? Yuck!"... Well, I can't argue with that.

Didn't have to read the notes on this one- almond and musk! But petitgrain? It's an intriguing prospect, and might be a welcome addition to cut through the sweet babydoll head frothiness of it, but on my skin it's nowhere to be found. Reserved for the lover of sweet gourmands.

I wish I could experience the full range of notes, but this is straight playdough to me.

I was counting the minutes to receive this parcel today. I agree 100% with @Bubbles1964 when she (I suppose she is a lady) says that this in the very background smells a little bit plasticky, which for her is good but for me is a disapointment (I would not expect this plasticky scent in the background in a fragrance this price, and if I had tested it, prior to shop I might get some reservations towards this scent and not buy it honestly). Now that is here, what can I feel? I feel licorice (in Portugal we call it bitter almond beverage) that I like and doll head that I don't care for. I can't pick up many other notes other than this (my skin chemistry maybe?), and I feel sad. So many high hopes for this scent... The sprayer is very good and distributes the frag very well (a huge bonus) If someone in Europe area wants this 50ml, just new, get in touch.

This is straight up Play-Doh on me. I don't get the faintest hint of florals or vanilla. It smells incredibly cheap, artificial, and flat. The overall effect of this scent kind of makes me feel like I'm exploring an attic filled with relics from my childhood because along with the Play-Doh it has kind of a dustiness to it, a stale musty undertone, and a plastic accord that makes me think of an aging plastic storage bin full of old toys.

I loved the smell from the bottle, a amaretto-dream with heavy heliotrope dipped in honey, yum! But on my skin it turned..weird. I could still smell the loveliness but most of all it smelled very plasticky and synthetic. It reminded me of childhood in a way, with barbies strewn about and those overly sweet body mists I loved. Probably beautiful on someone else but unfortunately it didn't jibe with my chemistry.

To me it smells pretty much like almonds and cherry kernel that strangely reminds me of some glue stick I had back in the days at school. It is a soft, sweet, powdery and quite linear fragrance. On my skin it smells the same from the moment I sprayed it to a few hours later. I think it lacks of depth. It is nice but not my taste and I mostly find the almondy-glue stick smell quite annoying.

246 I was looking forward to this one, having smelled real heliotrope flowers, but alas it was just bitter almond(great) and very strong play dough(bad). I don’t mind the play dough note if it’s gentle, smooth, creamy, powdery, but this one seemed harsh smelling. 0/10-pass and still looking for something that smells like heliotrope flowers.
