Cilice

Wood notes are usually dry, austere, clean. All the resins and the beeswax in this perfume transform the intensely refreshing cedar into a sultry, oily, compelling aroma. Despite Cilice being quite under the radar, it is a lovely warm and inviting cedar perfume that is very much worth trying for all woody-leather lovers.

Very very interesting scent. Smells like some kind of forest animal running through dry bushes and coniferous trees for a place to store its food - incredibly woodsy with that subtle hint of leather, and an animalistic, sort of spicy undertone that remains even on the dry down. I don't get too much honey or beeswax, but perhaps that could be elevated with a sweeter oil or perfume to layer over Cilice. 8.5/10, will probably be buying the full bottle once my sample runs out :)

Smells like a camping trip in the mountains out west. I loved the smell of the air when we went to Sequoia National Park, and noticed it again outside Phoenix, AZ and in Santa Fe, NM. Memories of early morning light through the nylon of the tent, down sleeping bags, campfire, the sweetness of dry forest and scrub-brush.

The leather and birch are pretty soft in this, I expected a stronger combination. Sadly, on skin it does not radiate as much as I thought it would. Perhaps it works better on hair, I will have to make a few more tests. Overall - a nice and pleasant scent but somewhat underwhelming compared to EB's other stuff.

I just received a sample of this from Ave Parfum and it's gorgeous! The beeswax and the resins and the woods! Beautiful fragrance with great performance, but here is where we have an issue. This type of scent has been done before and it's hard to justify a purchase when compared to other in the genre. The scents of this genre would be smokey resinous woods, like all of Olympic Orchid's Dev series, minus Lil, Winter Woods/Fireside Intense by Sonoma Scents would be worthy comparisons. Tyrannosaurus Rex by Zoologist, A City On Fire by Imaginary Authors, and Bois d'Ascese by Naomi Goodsir would be the smoke element but Cilice isn't all smoke unlike these three above. The price is difficult, when compared to Olympic Orchids and Somoma Scents but I will say that this is the most well constructed of the three brands. This is complete and this feels solid. The Dev series I love but they're hard to pull off because of the monstrous sillage and feel, specifically only late Fall to Winter. The two by Sonoma Scents are good but again hard to wear for the same reason and they're very linear in their composition. I would say the 8ml is the best deal followed by the 30ml. I generally believe all of these scents, including the ones I listed above, would work better as Extraits or Parfum concentrations and with splash or screw on tops. The sillage might suffer, but due to the smokey resinous woody profiles, I think they're too beastly in sprays and or hard to dose just right. Ellen Covey got it right with the Dev Series of screw tops. I digress, this is a great fragrance but since I own both Sonoma Studio's fragrances it might be redundant. If I didn't have those, I would buy this one instantly. I still might get an 8ml since it's only $40. Should last A LONG time. I must praise this brand for offering so many different sizes, I wish more brands did that instead of a sample samples starting at $8 and the 30ML being $185. Not talking about this brand, but other ones I've seen on the market. If you look at Luckyscent, you'll see which brands I'm speaking about...
