Ryder

#1756 in my “Tour de Fragrance” This is a nice scent! Got it as a spray sample from Luckyscent.com. They want $145 a bottle. I’ve found it on eBay for $99 which tracks. Very ambery like Lutens “Ambre Sultan”, but a tobacco scent like Lutens “Chergui.” I find “Chergui” too sweet for my taste and this is just right. There are scents out there very close to this like Mancera “Red Tobacco” and it’s clones, like Armaf “Hunter Killer”, Maison Alhambra “Signatures II.” This is a bit smoother and more ambery than the Mancera and only a bit more expensive. I actually prefer something sharper like “Red Tobacco” and prefer something more oudy like Montale “Oudrising.” I have all the above similars, so I don’t need this, but if I were on the prowl for an ambery tobacco scent, this would be a very good choice. This won’t offend in any setting. Probably best for cooler weather. Office wear or date wear. Reasonably priced. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

This is IT. This, in my opinion, is THE scent for the refined. This is elegance personified, or rather, olfactified. Yes, I just made that up. Sillage with this one is moderate, but it lasts for hours on skin. Ryder contains every note I love and they coalesce to form something amazing. It's classified as unisex, but leans more towards the masculine side of the spectrum to me. It brings to mind the smell of violin rosin in a study full of books, expensive leather chairs, and the faint scent of vanilla pipe tobacco in the air. The presence of jasmine is negligible. I hardly smell it. I only smell slightly boozy, resinous perfection. It goes on easy. This is not a heavy one that chokes the nostrils. It's smooth and mildly sweet. The amber really shines here. It doesn't evolve much, but it doesn't need to. It goes on perfect and STAYS perfect. This gets a 10 out of 10 in my book.

Elegant classy fragrance, in the same style as Roma's Ambra Aurea and Tom Ford's Amber Absolute, could easily be a cross of both scents. Ryder is a deep, dry, dusty and smoky composition that's rich on amber, incense, benzoin, with a prominent presence of labdanum, complimented by a hint of tobacco leaf. The dry down is softened up by ambery dark woods. Easily my favorite from the house. as I find the rest more on the feminine side and forgettable. Having said that, some might perceive Ryder as a bit monotonous, especially if already accustomed to amber compositions. To me, it surpasses all others due to its darker nuances.

I have been exploring the notes Tobacco and Amber during 2021. And this is by far the best one I have found. This has instantly become one of my all time favorites. The amber is sweet and well rounded. The tobacco note gets equal space in the blend. To me, the vanilla note is not to strong. I don't like vanilla, but understand that it plays a role in supporting the amber. And that's what's happening here. Over all it's amber and tobacco. Longivety is very strong. At least all day. Sillage is also good. If you like sweet "velvety" ambers, and like the tobacco note. Then you can't go wrong with this one.

It gets more Amber and resin as it drys down but just a first impression after having it on for an hour, this comes on (to my nose and on my skin) so much like Tom Ford's Tobacco Oud (one of my very favorote scents of all time) that it seems redundant to purhase this too. Except I probably will. Because dear lord it is magnificent. Ill update after a few more wears but honestly if it's between this and TF's T.O., I'm still reaching for Mr. Ford. I will also say that in the "CEO ultimate scent competition" this blows Roja Dove's Enigma out of the water with prejudice.

It's not specifically listed in the notes but there's a large amount of labdanum resin in this fragrance. It's a very labdanum-forward amber, and I absolutely love it. There's a touch of olibanum, a little bit of sticky tobacco.... Fantastic. I also smell a bit of a fir balsam aspect in the drydown. Totally unisex, sweet enough to work on anyone thanks to the vanilla and labdanum. Dark and mysterious, ideal for colder days when you're in a leather jacket. I bought this on the spot upon smelling it. This fragrance speaks to me.

This fragrance really is quite remarkable. It smells absolutely amazing. To my nose it's almost as if Tobacco Vanille and Givenchy Gentleman EDP had a baby. The quality here is through the roof. I wore it as my scent of the day yesterday and I'm about to get ready for work and jump into a shower but I still smell it. It's a skin scent now but it is most definitely still there. If you love deep amber with tobacco and a bit of spicy sweetness, then you should definitely try this out.

Lovely, oily amber-incense, with a vanilla-ish drydown. The jasmine adds interest developing it beyond merely an incense perfume. Tobacco is clearly present providing a counter-sweetness to the vanilla; the tobacco almost competes with it, making this less linear. I pick up chocolate notes as well, and the effect of all notes combined is "chewy" and "dense." This is a sexy, comforting unisex smell.

I definately understand the resemblance to amber absolut, except it has a slightly more vanilic vibe to it. That is about the entire fragrance to me. The price per ml is actually less for ex Idolo ryder. That combined with the fact that amber absolut is discontinued (except for their re-release) makes ex idolo ryder a good choice for someone who wants amber absolut cheaper, or simply can't find it.

This is a resinous, boozy amber that's slightly woody with a hint of sweet tobacco. Beautifully constructed fragrance, it actually becomes stronger and more complex throughout the dry down. I experienced better development, longevity and projection than with Amber Absolute. As a devoted amber lover and I put this at the top of my list of must-have ambers. 9/10. Highly recommended.

For me, the tobacco and vanilla notes dominate this scent. In that way it's similar to Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and Parfums de Marly Herod, but Ryder leans more heavily toward the tobacco and I like it better than either Tobacco Vanille or Herod. Overall, the image this conjures is a tobacconist's shop, with dark wood fixtures and shelves of sweet pipe tobacco in jars.

My favourite amber vanilla fragrance (better than Grand Soir in my opinion). It’s a masterpiece! It smells a little boozy and tangy in the opening but when it dries down it becomes really rich and refined. It smells like an antique wooden fireplace burning with tobacco. There is a bit of a floral element to it as well. Makes this scent all the more beautiful

This is weird one. Very much a Tom Ford Amber Absolute and Tobacco Oud cousin. Yet, it comes across weaker, thought sometimes it is monstrous in its sillage. Sensitivity to the notes will determine that - some people will smell you from afar off, while others will not smell a thing. Perfect fall winter gourmand without being cloyingly sweet.

Deep dark boozy slightly medicinal amber. Throwing you a curveball every other hour you wear it. This fragrance never gets old. Stunning work and complexity. Fragrance du Bois perfumers and Roja Dove need to get lessons from creators of Ex Idolo. Fragrance is the only thing that should take your breath away, not price...

A beautiful boozy amber fragrance with tobacco that starts out sweet and dries down more woody and powdery. I own three of the four Ex Idolos in the database, and, as with all of them, I wish they projected more. They are strong on the skin but quickly become skin fragrances that you want to run your nose through.

Gorgeous fragrance, 10/10, sticky, warm, sweet, resinous amber; has a cola facet to it to my nose at least. Can't stop sniffing my wrist when wearing it, an absolute love

Lovely scent. Gorgeous ultra ultra smooth amber, resinous sweet vanilla with a discernible smooth tobacco kick just at the top. Almost boozy very syrupy. Somehow I get an occasional camphorous whiff... the review below suggests oily - yes maybe that too... Reminds me of: Drambuie The colour orange Peach Kernels A tobacco soaked arm chair Soft shisha pipe with a warm sunset on my face somewhere in the Middle East. Will I replace it? Probably not - it’s too expensive for too little even though it lasts all day but at a low volume it requires more than just a light spray. This is despite the obvious quality as the colour leaves a stain. It’s simply a quality intimate smell. If my partner likes it on me I would buy another and be happy to wear it. If you like this sort of lush scent you must at least try though my recommendation is try before you buy.

A resinous amber based perfume which leans on the sweet and smoky side. This effect is beautifully achieved by layering the central ambery note with vanilla, incense, tobacco, jasmine, balsamic resin (I think tolu), and wood notes. Sweet (but not cloying), edgy, noirish, unisex juice that has a pronounced sillage and projection. This is intended for lovers of amber and resinuous perfumes, think of a brighter Slumberhouse offering. This evolves beautifully with the initial smoky amberish opening giving way in the dry down to a beautiful vanillic incense. Beautiful blending here, here is another winner from the house that brought you Thirty Three. Now available in 50 ml bottles. Enjoy!

Once upon a time I had Tom Ford's Amber Absolute. I found it austere, but strangely hypnotic. 100ml bottles now trade for £500. Working from best recollection, my bottle of Ryder is close, a dry, resinous, smoky amber. Its also about £90 for 30ml. If i live to 150 I'll still not have gone through my bottle, performance is huge. So if you like this style of fragrance, value is decent. Difficult to mark though because its a mood fragrance, sometimes a love but sometimes not. Fanboys and girls of lighter fragrances should definitely look away. 3.5/5

As a sweet, dusty amber burning on a pyre of smoky wood with a generous helping of spicy frankincense, Ryder sits neatly in the unisex zone. Jasmine and tobacco are perceptible but not key players in Ryder, actually I didn't pick them out till after looking at the note pyramid. Vanilla tends to smooth rough edges and create a creamy amber for me but Ryder remains rather rugged throughout. Sillage is average and longevity good. I love 33 but I like Ryder, my adoration for HG Ambre Sultan remains unshaken.

Quite similar to Amber Absolute—on the drier woodier side—yet it's actually not a power house; if you (like me) find AA lacking something, then this will come across boring, but if you love that scent and can't wait (or spend the money) on another Reserve/rip-off Collection bottle, try Dua or this!

Oh Ryder! I love your brother 33 and am not let down by you. Musty, dusty, Amber, resinous with a hint of sweetness, no cloying here. So glad I bought this, Amber lovers must try this.

Yup, another resinous amber. Smells like a lot of those - the tobacco note is dusty and a bit vegetal making me think there’s some immortelle here. 12+ longevity.

Excellent amber scent. It's like a combination of Amber Absolute and Grand Soir. Very smooth, delicious, not sickly sweet.

162 This reminded me of a faint ambre sultan and a tiny bit of calling all angels. It was oily and surprisingly weak. I expected a more liquid-more alcohol fragrance. I have both above, which are better, so no for me. 7/10-it’s okay, nothing special.

Nice amber and resin. It’s a tad sticky on the skin. The scent is very light to me. I wonder if this is what some of the earliest perfumes smelled like.

Loved this on first application,sweet,smokey with a tiny undertone of olive, but then it turned to straight chewed tobacco on me. I ended up smelling like a spitoon and had to scrub it off

smells just like the benzoin tincture swabs we use in the hospital to glue dressings to sweaty skin. can't get over it. gross.

I was able to get this as a 'gift with purchase' in a massive basenotes sale, and even though I didn't particularly want it, nor did I like it, and even though I still find myself in this category, I'm glad I got it -- it's a vanilla amber with some floral sweetness behind it. It's Amber Absolute without the high-pitched resin. It's a beautifully constructed scent, no question, it's just not the kind of scent I normally go for. It is a bit on the safe side, and whilst I do enjoy it, no question, it doesn't have enough dare in it -- no stanky animalic counterbalance, or something like coffee or cumin, or even a stark wood, none of that unfortunately, and so it does feel a little 'meh'. I like it, don't get me wrong, but it does not inspire. I know that must be odd, but it's what I think...

I have utterly no idea whether this is just me, or the sample that I had was bad, but I was almost completely anosmic to this scent. I've watched several reviews on YouTube which describe the longevity and sillage as being good to superb. However, when I sprayed it on, I basically got an EXTREMELY faint vanillic, balsamic amber with undertones of incense (highly reminiscent of Ambre Sultan - except, and I can't emphasize this enough, very faint and very close to the skin). Was this anyone else's experience too, or do you think my sample was just bad and I should order another one? If you have any suggestions, please feel free to drop me an e-mail and let me know. I'd be curious to read other people's opinions.

Sweet but rugged, with a warm, dry, kind of ashy-smoke vibe to it. Ryder has both mellow and sharp elements. The mellow, sweet warmth of its vanilla and balsamic notes are woven together with a subtle, ashy sharpness from the ultra-dry wood and tobacco. I find Ryder masculine-leaning, personally, but there's a hint of floral prettiness from the jasmine, which harmonizes nicely with the spiced-fruit undertones of the olibanum, giving a touch of classic, perfume-y elegance to the composition as well. Ryder's raspy dryness makes it a hard sell for me. However, there is something sensual and enticing about it; a sweet but smoldering scent; intense yet comforting.

I wasn’t into the first Ex Idolo release, but I saw the appeal as the scent was a reasonably well crafted drunken rose. This one is a step down in that the construction and the effect are both mediocre. It’s basically Tom Ford’s Amber Absolute merged with Dior’s Fève Délicieuse. Fold a creamy coumeric note in with a debilitated Amber Absolute and add a touch of dried fruit-like tobacco and that’s about it. Sweet, cloying, and forgettable; it’s your standard, predictable “modern masculine” sugar-cakes scent. Pure, unadulterated bro-nip.

Ryder’s viscosity is sticky and oily- I might decant this into a beautiful roll on bottle. Ryder is gorgeous! Resinous, sweet woody amber! It has amazing longevity and creates a wonderful scent bubble for hours. It would probably project more if the alcohol content was higher but I’m happy with the composition. I haven’t had the opportunity to sample Amber absolute and unless another frag head offers me a decant I likely won’t so I’ll have to make due* with this gorgeous amber.

Simple sweet pipe tobacco with excellent longevity. Monolithic, no evolution. Smells a bit patchouley and vintage, dusty and musty like an old library, my kind of fragrance, but is extremely overpriced for what it is; there are many better than this but less pricey and pretentious and more complex in their evolution. 33 presented on me the same character: a simple dusty and patchouley vintage rose... 6,5/ 10 considering the price

Oh my. This is really wonderful. Other than the obvious amber accord, I dont really get the AA comparison. Although I love Amber Absolute, it's much more rough around the edges and a wee bit polarizing compared to Ryder. IMO, Ryder is AA's angelic little brother while AA is the naughty older brother that sneaks out after hours for a bit of romping. lol Definitely try worthy. Bopper Approved.

A fragrance friend gave me a sample of Ex Idolo Ryder and on first sniff I was amazed how similar this is to Amber Absolute! Beautiful stuff... Wearing it today and so far its taking me on a journey! Cant stop sniffing my arm! I smell resinous amber, vanilla and a boozy tobacco type vibe. Perfect! This is a must get if you don't want the new Amber Absolute version!

I don’t watch Yellowstone but it’s what I imagine that show might smell like. Rugged, smoky but also yielding and sweet. Ryder is a real yin and yang, a truly well balanced unisex that pulls in notes from both polarities. If what you’re after is just that sweet resinous amber then you could have that for $20 in the Nemat Musk Amber oil that Ulta now sells.

Interesting how "wrong" I guessed the notes blind-testing this just now. I thought patchouli & leather. The former I guess because there is definite camphoraceous bound with the woody, and the latter I definitely get some dry animalic.

Really nice. Resembles Amber Absolute a lot at first, but Ryder goes more towards Tiger balm or Vicks Vaporub (eucalyptus?). I am curious about the other Ex Idolo's.

To be honest, this is a great amber scent. Kinda like Min NY's 'Barrel... 2 sprays is enough.

A beautiful resin amber but not very long lasting.
