Similarities to Oud Wood right off the bat, except this gem is smoother, drier, and classier. Much more delicate in nature due to the heliotrope. In my opinion, Bois D'Hviver is a lot better than most recent Oud Wood formulations, as I just bought a backup bottle recently, and all I got from it was sweet cardamom butter. Horrendous stuff. I'd like to pick this one up once I'm low on Oud Wood as Bois D'Hiver itself is intoxicating, luxurious, elegant, and overall cleaner -- however, if you're already happy with Oud Wood I'd skip this entirely.

I love Bois d'Hiver. It is similar to, but a little brighter and sweeter, than Tom Ford Oud Wood and Thameen Carved Oud. It also reminds me of several of the Moncler woody fragrances. In order to improve its longevity, before spraying Bois d'Hiver I apply Tom Ford Oud Wood Hand & Body Moisturizer. That triples its longevity for me. 9.5/10

That first initial blast of cardamom is amazing. It almost enters eucalyptus territory with how cooling and camphorous it is (maybe like inhaling cold winter air?). I can *somewhat* see the comparisons to Oud Wood, but this is more interesting and easier to wear in my opinion.

Refined, elegant, clean. Woody notes are subtle, and perfume is really nicely balanced. I definitely prefer Bois D'Hiver to my other woody parfumes (Le Labo Santal 33, etc.). Longevity on my skin is really good.

the cardamom bomb in the opening is truly amazing. as it dries down it sort of just smells like any other powdery slightly sweet woody fragrance. might have to buy it just for the initial though

Lots of people say this is Tom Ford Oud Wood. It is at a first impression, and to someone who isn't exposed to many other scents. This definitely has Oud Wood vibes, but its just so much better, more refined, well blended, and slightly lighter ( not in a bad way ). " Quick disclaimer, I also love OUD WOOD btw". I always get compliments wearing this as well. If you only rely on 1 frag for do it all, I would get this. Not just for men, women too. There's no gender here, its a unisex fragrance that anyone can pull of. Perfect for work setting ( its not overwhelming at all ), wedding, party, DATE - this will definitely get you a some attention ;) P.S. No one knows about this brand and you cant get it at retail stores, so the rare and unique factor is there as well if you are chasing that. I know I am. Find me on YT and IG @VirginNose

A fragrance true to its name. Someone posted a question online: what perfume smells like cold winter woods? Day after I saw this question, I ran into Bois D'hiver. What a coincidence. Upon smelling this perfume, a picture immediately appears in my head: all leaves gone, black branches stick into the cloudless sky. This is the driest perfume I've ever tried. The pepper at the opening is almost minty, painted the cold morning for me; the rest is wood without even the slightest hint of moisture. My nose didn't get anything powdery or floral at all. Then there is a scorched bitterness drying down, perhaps coming from patchouli? I'm not sure if I like it, but this is a very definite smell, the nose behind it must have a very clear idea in mind.

Second review: strange, very strange, a new (official) sample smells like a completely different perfume. It's nothing like what I remembered it to be. Now I see the resemblance to Oud Wood : same structure, streamlined and watered down. I got a umami ("鲜")/ "savory" spicy opening (cardamon), then it slowly heads to a slim version of Oud Wood heart: a sour-sweet hard-woody core . I really don't think it's oud, probably a patchouli accord with WACs. And it did flatten to a more “typical” smooth woody patchouli base, glittered with peppery sheen. So, Oud Wood lite it is.

Last about 3h and and become a skin scent in 30 minutes. It smell very good but longevity is so bad. At that price point, would consider buying an alternative that smell longer. The smell is extremely similar to oud wood as I have both. The opening is exactly the same but in the drydown they are a bit different

Smell like a winter forest version of the oud wood which is more like a dark mossy humid forest. No idea if that make sense but thats how I smell it. I own both and love both. The opening of bois d'hiver smell the same as oud wood and drydown is lighter and fresher. It doesn't have that oud in the backgroud.

Blind bought and after wearing it I'm disappointed...Comes across as INTENSE fennel or black licorice to me. I know it's the patch and cardamom mingling together but it's just not working for me like I thought it would at first. Soapy green fennel, or soapy black licorice :(

As the name would suggest, very wintery, wood-spice scent. Super prominent cardamom hit that fades into a very clean cedar note. Reminds me of a mix of Oud Wood and Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford. Very unisex and incredible longevity.

Cardamom and cedar in a very natural, light, unisex, wearable way. I find a lot of woody fragrances to come across a bit cleaning producty and this was actually really nice. More of a skin scent, which I prefer.

At first when I sprayed this, I mostly smelled patchouli, pepper, and lots of musk. I really don’t get any wood here, so I don’t understand the “Bois” part of the name. It’s more like a recreation of the scent of woods. Perhaps that is the concept, blurry woods because it’s Hiver? It somehow smelled very familiar, but I could not place it. Each time I sniffed my wrist, it smelled like mostly patchouli, and never any bois. After it’s on my skin for 30 minutes or so, it kind of blows my mind that it just smells like a weak, much less sweet version of Angel. Maybe like a faint version of Angel EDT. I don’t understand the comparisons to Oud Wood. I see absolutely zero similarities, unless they have reformulated it. Oud Wood is distinctly woody, and it has cardamom in it, a favorite spice that I don’t detect here at all. I smell only pepper in Bois d’Hiver. Not in love with this one.

i think this one just might not work with my skin chemistry, performance-wise. i've never tried a fragrance so subtle and almost undetectable like bois d'hiver, and although reviews seems to point at it being on the shorter-lasting and lower-projecting side, on my skin it is so, so incredibly quiet, almost not there atall. when i do pull my wrist up close to my face and take a good huff, i get a lovely, sharp, crisp and peppery cedarwood smell. it's very clean, but also reminiscent of a bright, winter forest. fairly linear, though the musk slowly rears it head to soften the strong peppery-cedar profile. 5/10 i like how it smells - i just honestly struggle to smell it. official sample as well.

opens up with a strong explosive cardamom, patchouli, and powdered sugar blast but quickly dries down to a sweet woody smell, similar to EQ by d’orsay. longevity isn’t great but the fact that this is incredibly strong at first spray but evolves at rapid speed to a light skin scent is fascinating

Lighter & Woodier TF Oud Wood I tried it on in boutique and told the salesperson how similar it reminded me of TF-OW, however, BdH really focuses on the cictrus-woody aspect rather than the oud facet. TF-OW is one of my favourite scent profiles, and I have to admit I slightly prefer BdH - I knew I had to have a full bottle. 6 months later, I snagged a 100ml tester - there is a bit of a funky opening, but within 10 seconds you are left with what I can say is a light citrusy woodiness akin to TFOW. This scent profile is known for it's weak performance, however, I get a solid 4 hours of nice projection with this which is surprising given there's no oud as a backbone, I'm happy with that as I wasn't expecting a powerhouse scent. How to know if this fragrance is for you: Break TFOW down into... Oud & Wood. Bois D'Hiver is THE wood. It's a slightly stronger performing more woody-focussed TFOW, that's it. In fact, it is more similar scent-wise to Woody Oud by Maison Alhambra than Oud Wood by Tom Ford. Updated: After smelling Carved Oud by Thameen, I can confidently say Carved Oud is the superior fragrance, by no means is this bad, but it's very airy and light whereas Carved Oud really hits you with that dark woodiness which I personally prefer as I like strong hitting scents.

The opening of this is very similar to Oud Wood. The newest version and not the gold label. This is creamier and so much better as far as projection and longevity. Bois D'Hiver translates to winter wood. I personally feel this can be worn all year round. Very nice edition to my collection. The pros are the longevity is stellar with 8 hours plus and it's not available everywhere. I picked mine up at bergdorf goodman but it is also available at LS so you will smell unique. The cons are that I feel this is overpriced at $225 for 50 ml and $325 for 100 ml and although it does perform better than OW, it's not over the top. I also like the box that it comes in. It's very different from other boxes but the bottle is ver underwhelming imo. The sprayer is probably one of the best. Rating this juice is difficult. On one hand it's different enough to where you could have OW and this in your collection. Gun to my head I will rate this a 7/10. I do think for those who love OW will love this too and I do see it as a compliment getter, however I would sample this juice before you blind buy. To me I think it's a good purchase. Very versatile and again, unique enough to justify a purchase.

Bois D'Hiver hits you with the unusual combination of spices and wood. Michel Girard from givauden has used the finest Orpur raw materials of pink peppercorn and cardamom combined with warm woods notes of indonesian patchouli and australian sandalwood. The result is a surprising contrast between fusing spices and stong and sensual dry down. The feeling of the fragrance is self assured with an emotional softness. It is reminiscent of the feeling of a shearing coat the textured warmth of the wool against the velvety finish of the outside.

It reminds me of Guerlain Homme Intense & Guerlain Homme L'Eau Boisee (in the opening of BdH). But also something else, to where it has an almost chalky aspect in the background - can't pinpoint it reminds me of. Doesn't seem to hold onto the citrus or whatever aspect that was in the opening for long. Then it turns into like... a bar of Dove soap type of smell. If only it kept the opening smell - that was pretty nice. Later on it smells kind of like chlorine. Maybe similar to how L'Homme Ultime dries down to.

I think this may be my most often worn fragrance. For the last 2 years I've been reaching for this often. It is very musky soft spice on me, the woods take a back seat. I wear this when I need an evening, after shower or bedtime scent, or one that is comforting and close, and I love it in cold weather. I think that it creates a fabulous envelope on cold dry air, which is almost 6 months of the year for me. I don't think I will ever be without this. Is it possible to have an accidental signature scent?

Ah right, thank you, xinyanwang42, for your comment about winter forest (black trees with gone leaves). Indeed! It's a French winter forest! Being from a more nordic country myself, I was wondering how this perfume should resemble deep crispy snow and frozen freshness; it shouldn't because it was created in France. It's black wet trees, sad, lonely and slightly sinister. Quite nice, but not over the top, so probably not for this price

The top note is disturbing to my nose as the musc is quite dirty with pepper, cardamom & patchouli, Kind of irritating but as it calms down it changes into something kind of different but the musc and the pepper remains still, it is kind of sneezable, sharp, and kind of peppery. This house is tricky, their fragrances begins with something, then turns into another thing, and eventually it settles in way different thing.

I have tried 9 of these and they are either vacuous freshies or share a common heavy base and are not inspiring at all. This is the only one I would consider as even slightly wearable. It is almost exactly like Lalique Encore Noire sport, in fact slightly better as it is a touch more subtle and has great longevity. Fragrance: 6.9/10 : It just dribbles over the line to a thumbs up Projection: 7.5/10 Longevity: 7.5/10

Definitely get the Oud wood vibe but this feels much lighter and lacking a little depth comparatively. Very soft and an even more versatile version of the scent profile due to its airiness but I must go nose blind to this because I get a solid 45 minutes max on skin.

Wal-Mart Oud Wood Just kidding it's actually a pretty well blended fragrance, although I would point anyone who likes this in the direction of Tom Ford first.
