Iris Porcelana

I purchased about 25 samples from DecantX and this is the one that really stood out to me. I had some really nice smelling samples in my order, but this one really surprised me and is the one I kept going back to. I've been looking for my perfect iris scent and I think I found it with Iris Porcelana. It's just a very pretty spring floral perfume and the iris is done so well here. It starts off fresh and then dries down to a really pretty slightly powdery fragrance. The iris here is not too earthy or masked by other floral or fruit notes. It really stands out and the fragrance is built around showcasing the beautiful, delicate and expensive raw material of the iris. Whether they used iris butter here, I do not know. I know how precious and expensive it is as a raw material used in perfumery. IP is not green, it's not woody, not musky, it is all about the iris here and letting her shine and I love that. I really appreciate when they are able to do that in perfumes. Sometimes it's an explosion of many different notes to create a whole new smell and sometimes perfumery is very deliberate, thoughtful and delicate and a perfumer is able to let mother nature's beauty shine by highlighting and supporting all the facets in a beautiful way and that's what Dalia Izem has done here, and I say Bravo! Yes, this is now a part of my collection and will be placed between Fleur Narcotique and my violet scents. I adore a good purple floral as there are quite a few out there that aren't for me but the ones that are, I just adore. Update. I got my bottle and I adore this scent. It's different than most scents on the market today, it is a purple floral scent, but she's so balanced, nice, and pretty. Definitely my favorite iris scent to date.

Iris Porcelana...an adept name because it smells like a very realistic olfactory portrait of the actual purple iris flower combined with something milky. Not thick nor fatty like cream--just a splash of milk. It is not starchy, rooty or especially earthy. The focus remains clearly on the flower. I love several things about this iris. First, the violet is perfect. If you have ever buried your nose in a purple iris, you might have noticed the scent of violet, as the two flowers share some chemical components. In many perfumes, violet takes over, and I am left with violet pastilles and not much iris. Here, the violet [leaf, apparently] creates a haunting, ozonic effect. Secondly I love that Iris Porcelana doesn't smell like a modern vintage and doesn't smell aloof or even proper, like Infusion d'Iris or Iris Poudre. Third, I love its subtle creaminess, which is not gourmand nor cloying. Its woody base is also very subdued. Anybody who doesn't like orris root and prefers the delicate scent of the actual flower really should seek out Iris Porcelana. I am reminded of Apres l'Ondee in the sense that Apres l'Ondee smells like the entire garden at Giverny, while Iris Porcelana smells like you have taken your camera and zoomed in on a singular flower. It's an absolutely beautiful iris. Masterful. Update: I was reaching for my sample spray vial frequently (direct from Ex Nihilo). It's an effortless fragrance that is elegant, soft, simple and perfectly balanced. I had to buy a bottle. I have no issues with longevity. Lasts several hours on me. It doesn’t project like a beast, but beastly projection wouldn’t be right for such a delicate scent. It was on my Top 5 for an entire year when I finally bought a FB.

I tried about 25 different niche perfume samples and this was the standout for me and the one I ended up ordering. This is definitely my classiest perfume. It's what I would wear to court if I had to pick out a scent for going to court. I'd pair this with a white button up blouse and pearls and I'd feel like my most demure, classiest, easy-going self. It's soft, feminine, not powdery, not lipstick/makeup scented. While L'Instant Magic is pure powder, this is a pure crisp musk & iris scent. It's not an earthy purple floral either; it's actually squeaky clean, fresh, pure. It's the scent of Mojave Ghost with the vibe and tone of Blanche. The musk is a white musk, like The Body Shop White Musk. I would say it's stronger in the white musk category than the iris category. The scent almost feels like it has aldehydes in it but it steers clear of going into that soapy territory and stays on the musky side. It just feels incredibly clean and crisp. At the time I bought it, I thought it was my most forward iris scent but now that my nose and palette has expanded, I realize that iris typically has a more earthy smell, think Apree L'Ondee, LVEB Iris Absolu, Dusita Splidiris, Tender Light. I really respect the iris flower for how mutable she is; in LVEB Soleil Crystal-she's paired with coconut and ylang ylang to make a solar, summer scent. In Tender Light-with tea and bergamot to make a floral-freshie, and in LVEB Iris Absolu to make an Iris based gourmand. Here, she's crisp, clean, bright, and tidy.

[Reviewing from South East Asia] I fell in love with the iris note and after doing much reading on different iris-centered scent, I decided to blind buy Iris Porcelana, my very first perfume from Ex Nihilo. This perfume confirms my love for iris. It's airy, light, a bit powdery but just right. It has some sweetness to it that ties everything together. In my mind, it evokes the colour pastel purple. There's nothing harsh here, it's very well-made. I think Ex Nihilo has their own signature musk because there is something in here that I smelled in Fleur Narcotique. They're two completely different scents of course. Knowing my body chemistry, I was actually worried that this scent might not be able to last throughout the day. It's been almost 2 weeks now and I honestly still can't tell how's the actual performance is. For example, I spray it on my moisturized skin & also on clothes around 7 AM, then by 10 AM I feel like I can't smell it anymore. Then after lunch around 2 PM I notice that I can get light whiffs of it. That happens a lot, and I suspect that I just went noseblind to it. But again, I can't really confirm because I don't go around asking my colleagues whether they can smell my perfume. It's really well-blended, non-offensive, very feminine. A very elevated every-day, signature scent. EDIT: It's been a year since I bought it and it has gotten stronger and woodier, wow.

This may be my favorite new purchase of the year. Confession - I also purchased FM's Iris Poudree, a favorite of mine and quite different than Iris Porcelana, but since I've had samples in the past, I don't count it is new. Iris Porcelana (IP) has an almost fruity appeal that slightly sweetens the generally more powdery or even starchy aspects of iris.. I can only surmise that there is a jammy quality to the rose here, as I can't imagine any of the other notes adding such a delicate fruity effect without smothering the powdery accord. The woody base, particularly the sandalwood, amplify the subtle woodiness of the stalks of Iris, while the violet leaf provides a green freshness that prevents the powdery according from being too dated. I think it's well blended and well balanced. Performance-wise, IP has greater longevity and projection than any of the other Ex Nihilo fragrances I own of have sampled. Fleur Narcotique is probably second, but others just don't last. Sweet Morphine is a complete ghost after 5 minutes. I have acquired quite a few iris fragrances over the years, making it increasingly difficult for me to identify a favorite, but IP ranks among the top contenders. This is a solid love for me!

It’s bright and luminous, very innocent. It’s fragile like a snowflake and these very old coffee cups made of the finest porcelain around 75 years ago (these belonged to my grandmother's sister). (*picture in IG) Iris Porcelana is like a second skin. Iris is a light breath inside a cloud of soft and warm almost transparent musk and woods. It feels that it has made for elfs and for angels. It feels like a scene from the movie when someone is dreaming of the best moments of their lives and the brightness of the screen fills the whole theater. This was a must have to my collection of versatile yet attractive scents. It’s quite simple yet indulgent and sumptuous. This makes me happy and it makes me smile. Maybe it’s the name, but it’s really giving porcelain. Porcelain doll, I can imagine picking up an antique and having it smell like this! That’s not to say the fragrance is dated or anything like that, it’s quite beautiful. I can see this as a “your skin but better” type of fragrance, I can easily see one thinking this person is particularly clean, or using some type of luxury body product. It’s very beautiful, and stunningly feminine. Right now it’s a like for me but I can see this growing on me! Smells nothing like Mojave Ghost to my nose, but also I don't have the best nose.... all I know is that I love this fragrance, would make the most beautiful signature!

Wow I smelled it yesterday and now I want it in my collection. If you like iris as a note you will definitely love Iris Porcelana. Beautiful, minimalistic fragrance. I tried it in hot humid weather and let me tell you it’s the most perfect scent for this weather. It’s not overwhelming at all, more of a skin fragrance, however people next to you will be able to smell it. This fragrance doesn’t have a very noticeable perfume smell it’s more like you have luxurious skincare products and you applied them right after the shower. You smell clean and rich. It smells very similar to what Guerlain meteorites powder smell like. I love this perfume

Oh man this is gorgeous. It's definitely a skin scent, but it's notably floral as well. It's the kind of perfume I'm always looking for for everyday wear. I feel like the girl who wears this perfume is the kind of girl who's always clean, a little girly but down to earth. She always smells a bit like flowers when you hug her, but you don't know if the scent is coming from her clothes or her shampoo or her skin. She's your best friend, and you're secretly in love with her. It reminds me a bit of Daisy but its more grown up. Definitely try this if you want to be the kind of girl who would be the main character in friends to lovers rom com.

I had a powder that fell off one day and broke, and this fragrance smells exactly the same. A light cosmetic powder, the smell of an airy loose powder. It's not the stuffy powder you imagine when the fragrance is described as powdery. It's soft, discreet and airy. At the end, there's a hint of iris butter mixed with cedar. This gives it a 'craillon waist' feel. The scent is non-intrusive, subtle and transparent (even a little too much for me). The name Porcelana suits it perfectly. But I don't find the IRIS part present enough. On the other hand, I get a lot of compliments on this fragrance.

Iris and violet are two notes I strongly dislike, so I was pretty sure this would not be in my alley. However, I gave it a try since I bought a travel discovery set and I’m glad I did. This is not a strong powdery lipsticky iris. It’s the first iris/violet perfume I actually like. It smells smooth, elegant, femenine and slightly powdery, but also creamy. This screams class and elegance. If you don’t normally like iris and violet give it a try!

This is up there with Chanels Misia in elegance and class. Two very different iris perfumes but I get the same satisfaction from both. This isn't the lipstick, makeup or backstage powder of Misia, this is Iris with a capital I. It's floral and creamy at the same time. Some reviews say violet, but I'd say violet leaf. Just a touch of powder. A creamy, floral Iris in full bloom in a soft powder musc breeze. Lovely and worth the hefty price tag.

I never got anything from Mojave Ghost so I’m not able to compare the two. All I know if that this is such a wonderful perfume. It’s a crystal clear, cooling iris and hints of ozonic violet leaf. All very synthetic, but albeit amazing. The rose adds a lipstick quality similar to Lipstick Rose. It all feels very feminine, modern and French to my nose. You could dowse yourself in this and upset absolutely no one.

easily my new favorite scent. i get why people say its reminiscent of mojave ghost. to me, it’s a slightly more powdery version of mojave ghost. it’s comforting, it sits close to the skin, and it’s so soft. to me, it smells violet flowers and irises in full bloom during golden hour in peak summer. the sun coating your skin and there’s a light breeze. flowers, soft summer evening air, and skin musk. perfect.

I was surprised that some reviewers described it as faint. On my skin it projects well and has exquisit longevity. I applied a single spray on my wrist at 7pm and could still smell it very clearly the following morning. As beautiful as it is, Iris Porcelana smells very much like Guerlain's L'instant Magic, and if you already have the latter, it simply would not be adding much to your collection.

A very gentle, elegant, clean, and beautiful iris scent. It’s powdery, but not in a suffocating baby-powder or makeup-powder kind of way — it doesn’t bother the people around you and it’s easy on the nose. The longevity is quite good. Just to add (not sure who will find this useful), Ex Nihilo has the best spray mechanism I’ve ever used—it sprays very evenly and in a really balanced way.

This is an iris that feels really different from other irises I’ve tried in the past. It’s not reminiscent of makeup and it’s only a bit powdery. It’s very...floral! At the beginning, violet and iris dominate in a very green, but not sharp, way. As it dries down, there is a smooth, creamy, sweetness that gives the iris a very wearable feel. It makes me feel clean, calm, and beautiful.

Gorgeous powdery sweet musky cloud. It was a love from the first spray. it is elegant and feminine but modern at the same time. It doesn’t smell like makeup which I was afraid of initially but instead it is airy and gentle almost like a moisturized clean skin. I don’t find it as long lasting as other Ex nihilo’s but on clothes it does stay pretty long. Works perfect all year round.

I got Iris Porcelana with Iris Palida...It wowed me so much. I like the original IP but, it's...quite underwhelming because it's very delicate & weak in my opinion. But, the one with Iris Palida is absolutely stunning. It's...like Meteorites by Guerlain before the reformulation, Lipstick Rose by Fredric Malle without waxy old fashione vibe...super beautiful and ultra sophisticated.

this has the same vibe as China Blue from M&S and i LOVE that scent FOR YEARS. it's so soft, elegant, effortlessly beautiful, demure and it suits ladies with that kind of personality as well. not a screamer/attention grabber. its perfect as a signature scent. for office/running errands/first dates/netflix and chill/EVERYTHING. can't wait to get my hands on full bottle.

This is art in a bottle. Aptly named, this is a smooth, porcelain-like interpretation of Iris. Cool, elevated, sophisticated. No, it’s not a beast, it doesn’t scream at people from across the room, nor even from across the table, but don’t mistake its quiet elegance for weakness. It lasts and holds its own for hours. I find it strangely addicting and simply beautiful.

This is a dry, airy iris. I love it! This is what I thought Shalini IL would smell like. I can just imagine picking up a piece of Nymphenberg dishes, the dry feel of Wedgewood Jasperware. It plays close, but lasts all day. I keep getting a whiff of a lily of the valley white floral with a beautiful dry iris. I am so glad I rushed to buy it.

Soft & creamy version of Mohave Ghost which I grew tired of & its poor longevity. This perfume I knew right away I'd always have in my collection. Minimalist beauty & so comforting for all year round. This sparked my interest for iris scents yet nothing compares. Not too powdery with a hint of sweetness -- just right.

Iris Porcelana is simply diaphanous. It is like most delicate lace, so feminine, so tender. It's not chalky or lipstick-y, it's simply a slightly sweet iris, embodying an understated luxury of the finest kind. So unfortunate that it is very short lived. +

100% agree w what rougemagentique said below... lol! I do have a sample that i cherish so much... life is expensive and i dont see myself spending that much on a subtle scent... so im waiting for a Lattafa or Paris Corner or Fragrance World dupe...

If you’d sprayed this on my arm and told me it was Mojave Ghost, I wouldn’t have questioned it. I understand the comparison to L’Instant Magic as well. I love this soft, gentle, plush, pillowy scent profile.

Gorgeous smooth and elegant floral. Very office appropriate. A distinctly floral musk which is not so common in a musk profile.

Its like introvert, demure, businessminded, Sophisticated,refined, richest sibling of mojave Ghost.

I am always on the hunt for good iris scents, and Iris Porcelana has been on my test list for a while. I found an Ex Nihilo counter, and finally got to try this on my skin. It is an elegant, subtle violet-iris scent, green and airy, with a musky base. While the musk is too synthetic for my liking, IP is pretty good overall. IP opens with a smooth, green violet note, reminiscent of the leaf. Delicate and melancholy, it is quickly joined by airy, bread-like iris, its common bedfellow. It is smooth and refined rather than being rooty - living up to its name. Soft musk emerges early on, clean but with that synthetic greyness that so often accompanies lab-created amber-esque molecules. Still, it is pleasant for the most part. As it dries down, soft woody notes emerge, marrying nicely with the powdery iris and soft musk. It fades to a skin scent fairly quickly. Sillage is intimate and longevity is moderate. It is a feminine-leaning daytime scent that best suits winter-to-spring. I get the similarity to Byredo Mojave Ghost, but I prefer IP - it has better performance while being lightweight and subtle. This would be a love if the musk wasn't a synthetic grey cloud, but I like IP regardless. 3/5.

I can be fairly pedestrian in my perfume choices, designer ~ niche ~ indie, eh - if I like it enough I buy it. But I can discern quality when I sniff it. The art of perfume can mean many different things to people. Some want their fragrances to take them on a long meandering journey, others like to get to the point and stay there a while. I like both and I'm not much into what others think. But with this one? I don't see how anyone couldn't like it. It gets to the point and it stays there, allowing you to enjoy it at least 4-5 hours, which is perfect for me. It smells like a milky (a watery milk, though, if you know what I mean. I can't explain it any better than that), powdery (airy), purple iris. I guess the sandalwood is giving the milky vibe, but the rest is fairly straight forward. This is what I wanted the new Guerlain, Musc Outreblanc, to smell like and it didn't, horribly disappointing me in the process (lol, I know Guerlain is terribly worried about my opinion). Iris Porcelana has made up for it. I received a small decant from a friend and I'm mad at her ~ bc it's now on my wish list.

Iris Porcelana is sweet, floral, and very delicate. The iris is initially buried under several layers of sunny white flowers, or white flowers and roses. These are fairly generic in nature though, you don’t sense any indoles or sensuality about them, it’s more just a sense of floralness. After a while, the Iris starts to emerge and emit some powder, and things start to feel a little deeper and cooler. The violet leaf helps this sense of depth as well. The backbone is a light and bland mix of wood and musk, and overall all these light elements keep this feeling virginal and almost translucent for most of its life on the skin. It’s very pretty, it’s fairly simple and straightforward and for someone who doesn’t like the harsher aspects of Iris this could be perfect. It leans feminine, and lasts 4-5 hours on the skin.

This smells like violet candy tastes - the little square kind of violet “mints.” On me, this is a lightly sweet violet with a soft, clean musk. I like it. It feels dainty and both vintage and fresh as it doesn’t lean heavy or harsh, just a clean, light and airy floral. It also reminds me of the Guerlain Meteorites face powder pearls - which is a deliciously indulgent item that I buy as a treat for myself so that is a very positive association. No idea about Guerlain’s Meteorites perfume - I’m assuming they smell similar as I see that in the “reminds me of” list. I bought this as part of my Ex Nihilo discovery set... I’ll try the sample again but it doesn't give “must have” vibes right off the bat. But, I like it. Maybe it’s one that will haunt me.

This is so, so similar to Mojave Ghost. I am honestly not sure how/why... this is "supposed" to be an iris smell, and it lacks the Sapodilla which supposedly makes Mojave Ghost as unique as it is. But anyways... nearly identical, but Porcelana is stronger and denser, lasts quite a bit longer on the skin. Not as... ghostly as Mojave Ghost. There is something in the opening of this, however, that I find really off-putting, some note that smells very artificial/plastic-like. It goes away 20 minutes in, and the scent becomes this beautiful, airy, delicate violet-iris-musk with something else... A mystery... all the familiar notes, yet it smells very unique and distinct, there's gotta be more to it than the clamed notes.

"May not appeal to those who prefer meandering fragrance journeys" - lol fair This is a soft, comforting iris skin scent. Though it's powdery, I wouldn't say it's too reminiscent of the powderbombs of yesteryear - it's nice and subtle with a timeless rather than stuffy feel. I'm surprised fig isn't listed as a note; there's just a tiny bit of fruit. I hate overly synthetic sweet scents, but this didn't strike me as that at all. Super classy. Once the iris dies down, I got a nice feminine musk. This isn't usually the type of scent I go for, but I was pleasantly surprised.

This is a strange scent. Today it is a delicate violet-powdery veil and the next day it is a cloying synthetic fragrance.

A powdery Iris. Beautiful but also feels a bit mature for me personally.

Iris Porcelana aims to evoke an image of porcelain, something rather fragile in its beauty, but if we’re being pedantic I find it leans more towards ceramic territory. It’s a rather minimalist approach to the iris accord, balancing rather nicely between polished soaps and a papery dryness. A vase distantly sun-warmed on the shelf, with a supple creamy vanillic undertone, I picture a mass-produced ceramic, uniform and restrained with no rough edges; but it has not yet been glazed and fired, a thin residue of clay dust rests upon its surface. Pillowy musks and cotton-fresh woods add an enveloping sense of comfort, but never warmth, maintaining an emotional distance. This dusty white rendition of the Iris flower whispers on its approach, and diffuses slowly throughout its life, never raising its voice. This is a perfume for the observer, not the centre of attention. It upholds sophistication and elegance, but at the expense of desire and intrigue.

Glad I only splurged on the sample vial. This is a meh-pretty-but-obnoxious scent. To my nose, this is 90% rose (and a screechy one at that) with only a measly 10% of iris combined with the other notes...Yikes!! Literally no musks, no sandalwood...so sad... It starts out pretty and demure but it quickly develops into a mad banshee who wants to destroy everything she sees in her path. It’s loud, screechy and obnoxious in a most demanding way. Don’t call this iris porcelana, for crying out loud!! Iris scents are supposed to be powdery, quiet and calming!! This is the exact opposite!! This is why I ordered a sample. I had a feeling it was going to disappoint, I was right. On the plus side, I have learned my lesson, no more blind buying!!! Well, almost...😅😅 I just got a couple of bottles from two different places I’ll be reviewing soon...sigh...I love perfumes far too much!!!

i really want to love this but unfortunately it just falls short. upon first spray it's LOVELY, a clean and fresh take on iris that's powdery, very sophisticated, felt like i had my life together for a few minutes until the drydown...it goes to a mix of violet and rose comes off metallic, screechy, and sour on my skin. i'm pretty sensitive with rose and prefer them jammy/sweet style, but i think this would be perfect sans rose. but for those that do like rose, this is a good skin scent with pretty good longevity. projection is poor tho

This is incredible, addicting iris. All floral, not a powder bomb or a lipstick iris scent. Somehow aquatic as well as powdery. Something in the background of the blend makes me think of chocolate cake, though it's not sweet. Like a spongey chocolate cake with no frosting, just covered irises. I'm going to have my nose glued to my wrist all day. Update... after transferring my dabber sample to a sprayer, i'm less impressed. This is starting to remind me of baby wipes? Heartbreaking. Maybe one of the few perfumes that's better dabbed.

This is okay, but not worth the price tag. I love iris scents, but this was weak and the sillage poor. The "Reminds me of" section has Guerlain L'instant Magic, which I own and don't get the connection. L'instant Magic is much more potent, rose-dominant, and much more woody. In my opinion, these two are completely different things in every way so don't rush to get iris porcelana if you like L'instant magic

On my skin Iris Porcelana smells extremely dusty. It's a soft and quiet fragrance, slightly powdery, slightly fruity. The iris is more on the violet side in my opinion. It shares similar notes with Fleur de Peau EdT, but feels more old school because of the dusty note, less clean.

This perfume is very faint - not strong in the slightest. It is a light iris cloud. It's beautiful and very, very soft. It would be perfect for a baby (if you're into perfuming your baby) or a little girl's first special perfume.

It's like a less fruity and more mature smelling, powdery iris mojave ghost. I like it, but prefer mg.
