Rose Hubris

Ex Nihilo is a very under rated brand here in US. They make great, ultra modern fragrances, that are unique and very well blended. To my opinion they take minimalistic approach not just to their neat bottles, but to their compositions as well. This particular fragrance is a great example of a great modern chypre, that’s is not very common. I definitely see it more on a women, rather then a men. It’s sophisticated, dainty and elegant. It’s fresh and sweet, thanks to Rose de Mai and lychee for that, but yet oak moss and labdanum with patchuli don’t it let get to girly and careless. Wonderful and unique scent that will last all day and will get you tons of compliments, thanks to massive sillage.

Creamy, waxy, soapy rose rather than a fresh, green one. More feminine, though it's classified as unisex. Very smooth, no real punch, and softer - though by no means weaker or less rich than I expected. I like the fragrance and it brings to mind Guerlain's Rose Barbare. Will have to do the comparison when I dig up that bottle. I received a surprise pack of Ex Nihilo samples from Bergdorf Goodman a couple of weeks ago and decided to try them today. I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. Of the 7 samples there wasn't a single I didn't enjoy. It never occurred to me to try this designer, mostly because I typically gravitate toward more adorned or exotic-looking bottles - and the bottle is often what gets my initial attention. With so many choices out there, I am really glad I was given the opportunity to try these amazing samples.

I agree with Florett, its similar to Patiala... less amber sweetness- more musks & litchi. Also reminds me of a more playful/youthful Gris Dior. I love Gris Dior, but the sophistication renders a more mature situation, whereas Rose Huberis is a modern chypre with an airy litchi patchouli twist. Not much fenugreek in here, but the litchi lingers until the patchouli labdanum oalmoss drydown. 4 seasons, any occasion.

a very clear rose fragrance. You get rose straight away from the beginning. It's clear, slighlty fruity (from the litchi) and very pleasent.

The balsamic, slightly animalic influence of labdanum is very much present in this fragrance. Interesting, but challenging.

At first it smells like lychee and rose. Then it fades away. Beautiful composition though.

Too much of rose, patchouli and oakmoss. Too Heavy, dusty and reminds of an "old-lady" style. Definitely not my cup of tea. For a reference, I enjoy Byredo Rose Noir and Rose of no man's land, Jo Malone Red Roses, Christian Dior Rose Gypsy, but Ex Nihilo just doesn't deliver. Sorry. Try Before you buy, for the asked price, there are way many othe frags.

I love rose, but I am not a huge fan of this one in the same way that I’m not a huge fan of POAL. I think there’s a way in which to bring some dirt into the scent of rose, like with Tobacco Rose by Papillon, but here the juxtaposition between the sweet beautiful rose and straight-up sharp, bitter dirt is just too much for me. This perfume is a lot more delicate than POAL, and it’s also a little powdery, very musky/soapy, and the feel of it is a little too stuffy.

The funny thing of the controversial or polarized point is happened same in Rose barbare by Guerlain too. I think this is a rose chypre, and I also think Rose Barbare is rose chypre too(the old version with the golden plate. not the renewal one) with obvious dirty patchouli and wet moss, and fenugreek of honey-like but also plastic-melting spicyness too. when I realized the old version of RB is gone, I think this will be the alternative. and I confirmed that today again I smelt it, even I got the old version of RB. but other people think these 2 fragrances are the beautiful young rose perfumes with the soapy musky scent.

This smells wonderful for the 20 minutes it lasts on my skin. A well balanced rose, it touches on the many facets of the queen of all flowers, while never becoming too much of any in particular: green, but not sharp, fruity, but not too sweet, and earthy, but not dirty. If this performed even modestly well, it would easily be one of my favorite roses, and FB worthy. As it is, it will go with my other Ex Nihilo sampler sprays as a visual reminder of why it is so important to try before you buy when it comes to expensive fragrances.

Wonderful perfume. Modern chypre, delicate rose. Very complex yet may seem naive at times. I love Ex Nihilo. Their perfumes are underrated and this one (thank God!) avoided the hype just like some of their other great perfumes. People complain there's little silage but for me personally it's a good thing. It is never a sign of class and good manners if others can smell your perfume from across the room actually.

A soapy Rose, more of a foamy rose bath with allot of litchi and definitely no fenugreek here at all. Maybe the Musc shows a bit at the middle note with some dirty essence and patchouli but the roses go sharp on the middle note then it goes down and the litchi goes up. Nice quality with a normal idea of a fragrance as it does change allot all throughout the notes levels, in short it's never linear.

I am surprised that Thameen Patiala is not listed here, both have the same vibe due to the rose&oakmoss combination. Although Rose Hubris is 'less' sour therefore I like this one more (can be due to the lack of aldehydes). Ex Nihilo has such a nice parfums, this one is also one of them :)

-This is weird blend to say the least. -Soapy notes stand out the most to me. -But something else that's supposed to be fresh stands out too. -Is it trying to be modern? avant garde? I can't tell. -All i pick up is soapy cough syrup. (-)

I definitely smell a spicy fenugreek in the opening, but it goes away after a few minutes. The rose is airy and a little peppery. It's a nice fresh rose perfume, have to love rose to enjoy this.
