The Hedonist

This fragrance reminds me of some of the Louis Vuitton and Bvlgari Le Genme fragrances in that they smell more like a high-class designer fragrance than niche. It certainly follows a contemporary trend - it’s a woody, citrus, spicy, musky scent with a slight sweetness, combining synthetics and naturals. It starts off with some citrus top notes combined with spicy ginger, shortly afterwards the woods come in (pencil shavings), underpinned with a modern clean, powdery musk. The tonka adds some sweetness. Nothing particularly new or groundbreaking and it will probably remind you of other fragrances in this genre. Although they don’t smell the same, I get some similarities with LV’s Immagination, especially with the ginger and musk. It’s quite light so projection is fairly soft but I do find the longevity quite persistent. It leans slightly on the masculine side. I see why people might also make comparisons with Tygar. Again, they don’t smell exactly the same; Tygar is much more pronounced but they do share some similarities in structure and synthetics. Although this is much more synthetic and doesn’t have the juicy citrus, it does, in some ways, remind me of a very stripped back Burlington. Thankfully, though, there’s no cumin here to ruin the party! No rum or tobacco either, so it hasn’t got that warmth or depth, but I still get some similarities. In other ways, I also find similarities to more modern, androgynous scents such as Givenchy’s MMW but with much more substance and detail. As such, I’d imagine this could be good for layering although it’s perfectly good on its own. I must point out though, it doesn’t smell the same as any of the fragrances I’ve referenced, it has similarities in certain notes but each is different in their own way. Having said all that, I really quite like it. It is what it is, so you need to like this genre of fragrance and, of course, put price aside (as with most fragrances of this ilk, it is overpriced). It has a clear quality to it that I’m quite drawn to. At first I couldn’t make up my mind if it was enough as it’s fairly delicate and unassuming in a way. I questioned whether it was lacking but then I concluded that I like the delicateness of it. There’s a slight powdery softness in the background that stops it being abrasive and which moves it in a slightly different direction from some of the other fragrances that I’ve mentioned, although fortunately, this aspect is not overplayed. In fact, I’m not so sure why I like it as much as I do as I’d imagine many will feel it lacks a bit of substance or is too synthetic and whilst I can understand those criticisms, there’s still something about this fragrance that really draws me in. Whilst many won’t like this for the above reasons I mention or its price or because it doesn’t smell ‘niche’ enough, I really like it for what it is. It’s an easy wear that’s also very versatile and the softness works for me. It feels contemporary and sophisticated in an understated way, which is what draws me in and it’s almost watery character is rather quite appealing. I read an interesting article about this fragrance and the use of sustainable ingredients combined with bioscience technologies. Taken in this context, The Hedonist is an interesting and classy addition to modern perfumery. Edit: I’m confused by some reviews stating this is too feminine to be worn by men! I’m sorry, but I don’t get that at all. Although classed as unisex, I see this leaning more towards the masculine end of that spectrum if anything.

I tried Ex Nihilo at their counter for the first time and I fell instantly in love with a few scents: Atlas Fever, Midnight Special and The Hedonist. I struggled there for almost 30 minutes to decide which one to get since their prices are not cheap. Then I did get a full bottle of the Midnight Special because it’s the type of scent that I’m always drawn to but I knew The Hedonist is more suitable for the region climate that I am in (LA where is warm almost all year round and super hot in summer). The SA was really nice enough to give me the samples of all 3 of them when I made the purchase of the Midnight Special so I can try full wears of all of them before I open the bottle so I can return it if I change my mind. I tried and I found out that I miss The Hedonist the most after I used up all 3 samples. I kept thinking about it. Also both Midnight Special and Atlas Fever are really thick and cloying to use in such climate. I own more than too many dark, gourmand, sweet, woody, and oriental scents in my collection that they are being used up so slowly because we don’t get cold often (I naturally love these scents) so I’ve been hunting some summer or spring scents to be added in my collection. I don’t like strong acidity scents so it’s not easy for me to find some summer scents that I like. The citrus in The Hedonist is just the right amount along with the prominent woody (but not dark) in the heart and strong musk in the the base that give a modern sensual feel. I’m also glad that it has tonka bean note in the base that provides some sweetness in the undertone so the whole course of this fragrance is not too masculine. Very nice summer/spring unisex scent that is not too citrusy and last a pretty long time. About 9+ hours on my skin and days on clothes with moderate projection.

Wonderful! I like Tygar but it is very masculine and there's expensive-luxurious business-man feel that's in it (somehow). The Hedonist seems to be as made by Bvlgari and in the Le Gemme line but in a different direction, like a flanker -- or vice versa -- because they are similar in a way. Since The Hedonist is not exuding masculinity, I like it even more. Take the common part of these two: Tygar is like a tangerine version of it (or some other citrus), The Hedonist is like a cedar version and more wearable, less attention-seeking. Cedar is so much stronger that I didn't even note any vetiver at first but it seems to be there, supporting cedar. The Hedonist seems to work on skin much better than on my shirt where it is only a muffled version where the smell doesn't really live and gets lost quickly. I don't like that one component here is called "ginger", both in this one and in Tygar too. I am not really sure what is meant by this. Both of these have something that smells "sparklinkg" or "tingling". Is it this one or something else? Akigalawood? (But that's not mentioned in Tygar...) Anyway, I wouldn't use a perfume that would smell like ginger so this is misleading. So much so that when I was still at the beginning of my interest in perfumes, I left aside any "ginger"-including scent ("Who on earth would anybody like to smell like ginger?"). Only by chance and after a lot of sampling I have found out that what is being described as ginger is actually something very good and also different from the real ginger. So some of those notes are actually just a certain slang used by perfume-interested people.

I (M31) bought a 50ml bottle of The Hedonist yesterday after first sampling it the day before yesterday. It's such a nice freshie, honestly. To give it a comparison with a cheap fragrance, the top notes actually remind me of a less aggressive Turathi Blue (which in turn is supposedly close to Bvlgari Tygar that I can see on the "reminds me of" list) with that citrus zing, but the thing that makes it so much better is the drydown. It becomes a lot more refined and musky but still very light (not light as in not smelling like anything, it's just a... smooth and cozy fragrance) with a hint of woodiness and fresh citrus. This is somewhat of a blue fragrance, but at the same time it doesn't really feel like one. I think it's perfectly unisex, but I still think it might be best as a male fragrance, but it might not be a perfect fit for the the super-masculine machismo guys. I could definitely see women pulling it off though, but it's definitely not a feminine fragrance in my opinion either. I'm wearing it today in pretty cold and overcast weather with some snow still on the ground, not the perfect fit but it absolutely works. Could see this working almost all-year round, but it might be better suited towards spring-summer-autumn. I was specifically looking for a fresh fragrance that wouldn't be TOO blue or too in-your-face, and I think citrus fragrances can be a bit too much, but this is honestly great.

~The Hedonist~ Slightly sweet musky clean...classy...and simple which makes it ideal for work. You will smell freaking good and not cause a fuss, lol. I get ginger and light spice in the opening with some florals, but mellows into a soft woody musk with tonka. The ginger lingers and it presents itself every now and again. This scent has a tenderness. Almost delicate. Leans slightly masculine, but it's soft and round. Not an angular profile. I'm giving it an 8/10 bc it's a little overpriced. Very nostalgic scent profile for me. Some perfume/cologne in the late 80's early 90's had this vibe and I'm not sure what... *EDIT* Comparing this to L'Immensite...The Hedonist is just a better frag. It's more nuanced, interesting, and 3D in comparison. L'Immensite is a one trick pony...a great fresh ginger scent but very linear in its approach.

this smells good i have here the edp and the extrait and this one smells more blended together but more simple, this has a woody and sweet combo and also smells fresh. very good. I have to say, they are both so similar that i would honestly get this one. compared to extrait the extrait has more depth you get the same notes while getting more background notes, yes it smells great but its not worth the price if this one smells 90% alike. if you really want to go the extra mile for 10% more uniqueness and are willing to spend way more then get the extrait. that being said I think both are amazing and blind buy safe. 2 great masculine scents. now i will mention the EDP is more mass appealing. the extrait is alot more rich and mature, 9.4/10 on the EDP

This perfume works so well, and is a real crowd pleaser. Bought this as a random sample, not knowing much about it, and fell in love. And so did those who smelled it on me. May not be extravagant or over the top, but hits all the notes perfectly. The ginger gives this very clean, fresh smelling scent a bit of edge, while the woody elements are sophisticated, and not too masculine, but you get the picture. And when it dries down it is really pleasant. Very difficult to spot anything wrong with this one. The Hedonist smells like a guy who has his s**t together. Looks, smells and makes you feel good, all effortlessly without really trying.

In my opinion, its the best among "the Tygar family". Add some wood to Tygar and dial back the ambroxan a little bit, add a touch of ginger and bergamot to Vibrato, along with some sparkling water or soda for that acidity, and there you have it: The Hedonist. It works incredibly well, especially in the spring months and during the transition to summer Tygargillerden bana göre en iyisi. Thats it and Im sold! Fine distilled freshly spiced gentleman. Its not totally superb as it was here in another nuances before, but it is new enough and it delivers - you can count on few compliments and even questions where did you get it from. More male than female, refined but fresh. Starts boldly with tones of very expensive cologne, major hints of pomelo and white grapefruit, bit of christmas tree adds to its foundation of dependability and trustworthiness. Not soapy, distinguished middle aged man unparalleled cologne that stays pleasant and confident.

I love akigalawood! The Hedonist by Ex Nihilo definitely has a huge dose of the ingredient--this perfume smells so good, but it is so overpriced for what it is. Akigalawood smells to me like peppered blueberries preserved in agarwood and musk. The Hedonist lets akigalawood be the star of the show with all the other notes playing supporting roles. I can't stop smelling this perfume! On the other hand, there is a sizeable dose of akigalawood in Angel Nova, which is a fraction of the price of the Hedonist--this is why I can't rationalize the purchase.

This is from a free sample of The Hedonist that I got with another purchase. It is a pleasant, fresh, masculine, and modern scent, with bitter and dry qualities standing out. The Hedonist starts with a dry, patchouli(?)-centered scent that evolves to include light sweetness, roughness, and bitterness, before eventually fading. There are hints of a subtle cedar-like sweetness. The fragrance is not loud, fading to a point where it is only detectable up close after 2-3 hours (but it lasts a long time). A very nice surprise.

Striking resemblance to Bleu de Chanel parfum, but when comparing side by side, this leans slightly more feminine to me. If you're a woman who loves BDC but finds it too masculine, this might work for you. It's lovely...very fresh and woody, but light and energetic. Wonderful for daytime and after a shower, or before bed, during winter in the south when you know spring is close at hand and you crave the weather where freshies make more sense. Not sure if I would buy a full bottle yet, but I'm loving my 8ml sample!

Bought this in Amsterdam while on vacation and asked the sales lady if she could recommend me something for the climate I live in. (30 celcius daily) This is what she recommended. I instantly fell in love. I can't keep smelling myself whenever I wear this. This is perfect for daytime, hight heat white t-shirt weather. You'll stand out and turn heads. Gotten many compliments on this. It's pricy but sometimes you just have to treat yourself. The slightly sweet ginger / citrus / wood combo is amazing.

I keep forgetting I own this and at the last minute I grabbed this to wear on a warm spring day. What a sleeper scent I LOVE this and would definitely be tempted by a full size bottle when my travel one runs out. It reminds me a little of Bal D'Afrique but muskier and a bit more sparkily. although it doesn't seem to have massive projection I can still smell this on myself hours later and I still enjoy it. Very unisex I am female and don't find this too feminine leaning at all.

I love this scent. It's nothing new or extraordinary, but it is just so universal and great for everyday wear. I see most people say it's more male, but I love it on me. It is just so refreshing, mainly zesty/bergamotty scent. You could wear it any season and it would be appropriate. Maybe the price point can't be fully justified, but overall love the scent anyways. Seem to always go back to this one. Immediate mood booster, somehow feel so happy when I wear it!

A great daily and work scent. Not particularly memorable, but it’s well done and smells like quality. The opening is punchy with bitter citrus and ginger, then it mellows out to a citrusy and soft woody note. It smells both familiar and unique at the same time. I prefer other fragrances from Ex Nihilo, but this one is a good one to have, especially if you’re a fan of Ex Nihilo. I wouldn’t pay full price for it, but for a discount, it’s a good, safe buy.

Simply put-this is a great warm weather scent. Is it similar to others above? Yes. Do I prefer it to them? Yes. Can i give you a detailed, well-reasoned explanation why? Not really. Wifey loves it (this is truly like catnip for her lol), it lasts, had decent sillage, and provides a bright, uplifting scent bubble with enough depth to make me happy. And that’s what it’s really about. Yes it’s pricey. Is it worth it? I reckon that’s up to you. Cheers!

This one definitely has that Tygar DNA and is very similar. Tygar stays with the ambrox bomb, which is enhanced by the powerful grapefruit throughout, ultimately defining that fragrance. The Hedonist has about 30% less grapefruit strength and about 20% more woody backbone. I love both of them, but I like the enhanced woodiness from The Hedonist. I believe both have their place in my collection, although it might be redundant for many to own both.

2nd review. The Hedonist has some real depth with a luxurious feel which makes it suitable for formal events in the spring and summer. Great for outdoor weddings etc I did wear it to work a few times, but in moderation. To my nose the ginger, musk and tonka give it a sexy alluring feel. Not trying to hook up in the bathroom on break. But hey, If you are this may be for you lol It's gorgeous. @helintje sure it wasn't Sauvage you were smelling ??

Ex nihilo has some bangers, and this is one of them. This "ginger" DNA has been interpreted in numerous ways, but this iteration is remarkable in its own right and deserves praise. The price of the 100ml is insane. I wish this brand were more readily available at discounters. The performance isnt the greatest so it makes that price tag harder to swallow.

Not typically a fan of fresh perfumes but the woodiness in The Hedonist really helps with the balance. I'm surprised that people are voting that it's more suited for men - is it because of its likeliness to Chanel Bleu (I don't find them similar though)? I find it quite gender neutral. An uplifting zing for hot weather and has pretty decent longevity.

Totally! disagree! with PerfumeKick.... wearing it for the second day now and as a woman got compliments from both sexes. Still there after 6 hours....Unisex, totally,.... interesting, yes....peppery&mettalic, not on me : ) It’s not cheap, that’s true but definitely going to buy a 50ml when my sample runs out. A strong “yes” for me!

Nothing else to say except that I love this fragrance. The ginger is so invigorating and I love catching whiffs of it throughout the day. Has an incredible performance also, longevity is there without it being too loud, at least on me. I’ll always have a bottle in my collection.

Great scent. Got a 2ml then a 7.5ml and going for a 100ml. Hated blue tarathi or whatever it’s called but this one has huge quality about it... citrus ginger and fresh that’s long lasting and niche quality. Unisex but leaning masculine imo. 9/10

I like The Hedonist better than Tygar(too much amboxan and bitter) and Vibrato(too dull) becuase it has more of a brightness along with a woody base and is blended nicely. It's definately masculine leaning. 8.5/10

Love it. Beautiful and bright citrus/wood. Similar to Dior Homme Sport 2021. Bright as a sunny spring day . 9/10. Edit: Months later and I like it even more. It's actually very unique while remaining pleasant.

This is a big, masculine monster but with lovely nuances. Three season and definitely a night out fragrance. My suggestion is go in with a few buddies and split up the five pack travel size.

Nose Note #863 I'm sorry, I'll just copy my review of the Extrait onto here, because it only makes sense. I'm explaining why below. I'm an idiot for not checking Fragrantica before buying samples... I bought both Extrait and simple and applied them simultaneously on each hand. And I immediately thought: "Wait a second, this can't be a dupe of Tygar, can it?". Apparently, it can... And this dissapointed me beyond reason. At least Extrait has this double slightly caramalized sweetness making the difference, but DAMN IT it's only in the openning 10-20 minutes, passed that Extrait and simple are much much alike. I can't say Extrait performs much better, people are probably tricked by the marketing and the name Extrait. Extrait honestly doesn't always equal stronger performance. Extrait does initially feel denser and definately much sweeter, but don't the road it doesn't. And it definately doesn't justify being priced almost double the amount, this is absurd... The price on both and the fact that Ex Nihilo is just pulling on the famous DNA is smearing the impression on the perfume a lot for me. It is not a 1 to 1 dupe of Tygar though. Extrait feel a lot more unisex, almost leaning feminine honestly. The simple version is closer to Tygar, but it's still sweeter. Without digging into details, you are pretty much getting the same experience as with Tygar, absolutely the same. Now let's praise it a bit. Tygar is still more expensive (than the simple version), so buying Hedonist you are getting the same solid performance and wonderfully done composition, better than Theoreme Homme, Al Qiam Silver and Sceptre Bronzite (in order of quality best to worst). This smells like quality, but I have a big issue here. It's really good, but something about it, some component really itches me the wrong way, maybe it's ambroxan, I don't know. The UAE dupes don't have this particular itchiness and are actually more wearable in a way. It's like Hedonist has something about it that's just overstraining, i.e. dizzying. I guess this something is what making it longer-lasting. This is about it. Extrait is much sweeter and thicker, simple version is basically the standard Tygar DNA. Perhaps I like the simple version better. In the air the difference is less evident. Good work, too expensive. Extrait is simply out of reach. 7.5/10, at this point this DNA just feels overdone to me, but the modern legend is still a legend

This one is an odd experience for me. It wasn't a love at first sniff, but after a few weeks with it I quite like it, but I don't love it, and I'm never really sure when to wear it. . And though it's not one of my personal favorites, it is the single most complimented fragrance in my collection. I don't get the similarities to BdC at all - this is much drier, more bracing and effervescent. To my nose this fragrance is juicy citrus over dry woods (a very noticeable and realistic cedar). Rather than BdC, this feels more structurally similar to TdH (which has a much more prominent vetiver note in the woody base). It's clearly a more modern/current take but a much sharper experience without the obvious florals to round it out. Monstruous sillage for the first couple hours and I get great longevity on skin (8 hours) and ridiculous longevity on clothes (well into the next day). For people not getting this longevity, you may have a counterfeit or it could be nose-blindness (caused by what seems to my nose to be a huge amount Iso E super in the composition) - others can likely still smell it on you after you've stopped smelling it on yourself. Definitely one to get your nose on if you like this style but I wouldn't recommend blind buying.

Very high quality. Airy sweet, not cloying sweet. A little base which gives it room to be a spring/summer/autumn and not just spring/summer fragrance. Practically a year-round, indoor, signature scent take on this DNA. Yes, it smells in the same ballpark as Tygar and Vibrato, along with all of their clones and inspired by fragrances like Turathi Blue and Theoreme. Which is better? Honestly that is up to the nose and up to the wearer. Get a decant or a sample of Tygar, Hedonist and Vibrato and decide which one is more you. They're all very similar but have enough to set them apart that one will appeal more than others. In all 3, some notes or accords are turned up or down in a way that makes them all reminiscent of each other, but different enough to suit different tastes. To *my nose*, between Tygar and Hedonist, Hedonist feels like more of daily, office friendly version of this DNA, and Tygar is more of the off-the-clock, hanging with friends and family or going out version. But that's just my nose. Hedonist is good. A comfortable like. Not a groundbreaker, but it aimed for a scent profile and it achieved its goal.

I bought a 10ml sample from the internet and I gotta say both my partner and I like this scent profile. I smell patchouli but it is not listed. if you are looking for something very ground breaking (which is ground breaking?) or unique, then this is not your guy. The Hedonist is nice, easy-going but has its own characters. You can wear it pretty much any circumstance. It is fresh but not aquatic or blue. I hate both because they are boring. Problem is it is way pricy given that I can't smell it on my wrists after 3 hours.

The Hedonist — Ex Nihilo. For me, warm weather is the perfect companion for this fragrance. The scent feels semi-synthetic but not sharp, with an association to a sweet drink — it makes you want to sip it. Sweet, tangy, fruity. I don’t really detect materials like vetiver here. For me, there’s no real woodiness to it. It’s a fun, cheerful fragrance, and I think it’s a great match for a 20-year-old girl. Overall, as a work, I’d rate it 8 out of 10.

I've sampled this one, Vibrato and Tygar. This make me think of a darker version of Vibrato. I like this, but think I prefer Tygar to be honest. Its worth getting a sample. I'm sampling the Hedonist Extrait now, and am going back and forth on which one I like more between the two. Its a nice scent, but I'd sample Tygar, The Hedonist, The Hedonist Extrait, and Vibrato before buying any if I had not smelled any of them. I prefer Tygar.

The Hedonist by Ex Nihilo is smooth, luxurious, and easy to like. It opens with a warm blend of ginger, bergamot, and cinnamon, moving into woody cedarwood and vetiver, and finishes with creamy musk and tonka bean. It’s well-made and will get you compliments, but it plays it safe—nothing too bold or unexpected. A great choice for a touch of modern luxury, but don’t expect it to stand out in a crowd.

The opening is Ingenious Ginger, the drydown is Vibrato...literally the same smells...upon investigation, I found The Hedonist predated both those fragrances...impressive!...to inspire two distinct “dupes”...I get that this is a riff on the Tygar DNA (never smelled the original), but still noteworthy that those two houses pulled from this one...a pleasant & invigorating freshie

A very professional scent. I see myself using this for suit and tie occasions, aka shareholder meetings kinda vibes. Smells like a CEO who inherited his dads company but he himself is capable of running it. Young in age but mature in his mindset. This is because of the woody scents but with a slight fresh surprise. Would buy if it was on discount. Verdict - 7.2/10

It is a good Tygar variation, which I enjoy better than both Tygar and Vibrato. Smells more complex-interesting than Tygar and less in your face than Vibrato, which is what I was hoping it would be. Performance appears to be fine, long lasting moderate projection. Recommend to give it a try.

what a nice perfume, this is a very clean scent it has a medium sillage is a skin scent and it fades in about 3 hours, it is musky but nothing that would remind you of laundry, however as much as I like it I can ́t justify owning it since I already have plenty of musky scents

Vibrant and fresh, approachable fragrance. The drydown strongly resembles Voyage d'Hermes drydown, but the opening is much smoother, sweeter, more airy and in general well crafted. Safe option for office and formal daytime events.

Niche quality for sure 👍 and smell really good, but on a woman. I find this very musky and a little more in the femenine side. If you don’t have soapy and semi sweet green scent this one is a great option.

Loved this one but yes, the Agikalawood finishes it for me. I love creamier woods and it’s confirmed that I’m just not a fan of Agikalawood. If you do like spicy, peppery wood note this is a beauty!

Got a sample. Lasted a full workday. Beautiful dry down, intriguing opening. It's summer right now I'll try the rest of my sample in the fall/winter 'cause I think it's a bit heavy for this weather.

Very nice; similar to Speed Legends but a lot more interesting and appealing to me. Probably also closer to unisex. The ginger bergamot combination is really juicy.
