The opening is nothing but wood. Not a sweet kind of wood, but a rancid wood similar to what a tree smells like after it stops raining. A bit of the rose comes in after awhile and combat some of the wood. I get zero vanilla. This is not a sweet vanilla rose like Roses Vanille or any of the Delinas. This is pretty straightforward. Very mature, woody scent.

There's not many reviews on this one, and since I've managed to score a full bottle, here it goes! The first thing that comes to mind when I spray this is that it smells like a feminine version of Triumph of Bacchus. The note pyramid would suggest otherwise, but another reviewer mentions saffron while another mentions candied peaches- and Triumph of Bacchus has both saffron and peaches- so the resemblance is there somewhere. It's beautiful, sweet, elegant, luxurious, feminine... very nice stuff. Additionally, Venenum Kiss Rose de Mai is sort of a heavy sweet (almost medicinal) scent meant for the winter. It's medicinal but sort of airy at the same time. It also reminds me of feminine version of Aaron Terence Hughes Fever (which is also medicinal to me) but they are not exactly the same- just similar. I get no vanilla in this one, nor do I get woodsy notes really. The rose may be the closest note that can detected in Venenum Rose, but it's hidden with other florals that are unlisted. Honestly, in a nutshell, it's a sweet, floral, very lightly medicinal scent that leans feminine. I'm a guy who doesn't even like medicinal scents really, but this one is really nice and I'm sure I'll wear it this winter - 8.8/10
