Vetiver Moloko

What a fabulous fragrance! This may be the best vetiver fragrance I've ever smelled. It is creamy and a little woodsy. It will definitely mislead you into thinking that it's not interested in hanging around but it will lurk all around you watching your every move. Others know it's there, but you become oblivious, thinking you are all alone. You are not. It seems like a very light fragrance that sits close to the skin but I can tell you that this stuff projects! It'll give you an airy scent bubble, surprisingly. This line is by no means weak. I got a compliment from a guy today while wearing it, about an hour or so after I applied my sample. It is absolutely unisex. It reminds me of something though. I have smelled this scent before. I don't think it was from a fragrance though. I'll update when I remember because I've been trying to figure it out all day, lol. New elementary school books? Ugghh, I don't know. Anyway, I don't really care what it reminds me of. It smells damn good and I'm getting a bottle. The end! UPDATE: Figured it out! This smells like those old school pastille mints you get at restaurants once you are leaving. The kind that just melt in your mouth. They are chalky and creamy and come in Easter colors- light green, pink and white, maybe some yellow. They sell them in the store too in bags, right next to the candy. That's what this smells like and I love it!

In my epic quest for milky, woody perfumes, I was so sure this would be my holy grail, but it was not to be. It's nice--I like the slightly smoky vetiver and the lovely green cypress, but I did not get enough of a milky/creamy scent like I hoped. The vetiver note is really beautiful, and it smells freshly dried, if that little oxymoron makes any sense to you. The citrus was too tangy for me. I was hoping any citrus would burn off after the first several minutes. It did not. It blows my mind, the price of this. On some level it reminds me of Eau des Baux, but I think the latter is just as good of a perfume, if not better, and the price makes a lot more sense. Eau des Baux is less than half the cost of Vetiver Moloko. However, if tart citrus does not bother you, I would recommend giving this a try, especially if you love vetiver and want that note to be the focus of your fragrance. Update NINE years later (2025)! I have fallen in love with this perfume over the years. I love the contrast of smoky and tangy. I wear it frequently in spring and summer. I still find nothing creamy or milky about it at all, but I do love vetiver and will buy a FB.

EDIT: Reminds me a lot of Byredo's Bal d'afrique minus the lactonic note, but a very similar vetiver in the drydown. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. One of the most unique scents I own. The milk adds the most yummy, creaminess to the Vetiver and Cypress. Does not turn pure vanilla on me, which happens with almost all scents with vanilla in the base. Husband absolutely loves this as well. Not heavy projection, wears closer to the skin. Great as an everyday scent. Overspraying is totally acceptable with this scent, you won't offend anyone. Best for fall/winter day time imo, but honestly this doesn't have a season associated with it, you can wear it any time of year. Long lasting, but again, a skin scent. Truly a unisex fragrance. The milk and vanilla add a hint of sweetness. This is a green Vetiver, not too dry. Again, extremely unique and addictive. A must-have if you enjoy Vetiver and/or Lactonic fragrances.

Vetiver Moloko is absolutely beautiful. It opens with a light citrus & clean vetiver. The citrus fades fairly quickly & the amyris and vanilla come through. The vetiver here is quite unisex, clean & ethereal, not smoky at all. I don’t get milk except for a velvety creaminess as it dries down. The dry down is a smooth, woody & creamy, slightly sweet vetiver. Gorgeous! Projection is average & longevity is excellent. 100% unisex. If you like Bal d’Afrique or Hermes Vetiver Tonka, you will love Vetiver Moloko.

Ex Nihilo is my favorite brand and this one is a gem. Soft, warm creamy and milky vetiver. It reminds me of a trip to a remote village in Iran fourty years ago, I was alone as a child in between a narrow way limited with short walls gardens in an autumn. Tip tapping when my feet were touching dried leaves and that smell! Yes! It was a fabulous chypre smell from the gardens what was just like vetiver moloko! It’s still carved in my mind. It’s a perfect choice for colder seasons.

On my skin it's a a cocoon of sweet creamy vetiver, not earthy or green. I do not get the top notes at all. By hazard I layered it with a coconut lotion - the two blended into one and now that's how I wear it. The tropical/coconut note is barely noticeable (like in Sunny Side Up) and gives a luxury feeling (vs most coconut perfumes that sound cheap to me). Dina_France (perfume reviews on YouTube)

Love the milk note. Very versatile fragrance, perfect for office. Very calm. Tasty.

I thought I didn't like this at first. I put it on after a shower and could barely smell it. I splashed on a bit more to my wrists aaaannnd still a barely there aftershaveish slightly woody...sort of vetiver smell. I figured it was a dud but have left it on to see if it changed. about 10 minutes later I began catching a pleasant bitter lime peel scent, then woody/cypress wafts from my wrists, then suddenly the vetiver!! Its so beautiful. I love the vetiver note, it conjures the image of a wet forest, decaying leaves and rich soil. Which sounds dirty, but is actually very clean smelling. I'm still unsure as to what "milky" is supposed to smell like....creamy? is it sweet? I would like to sample a perfume that is considered "milky" so if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I'm not getting the vanilla scent mentioned in the basenotes, just a wonderful cypress/vetiver that has moderate sillage. Update: Milky note identified! I get it now! i was expecting something sweet, but its not. Its comforting and smooth, like fresh cream. It is a curious note to add to vetiver, I wouldn't have ever really imagined them together but I really like it! This is the second Ex Nihilo fragrance I have tried and they are very complex and develop and change over time. I am very interested in trying more from this line of perfumes. Update 2: 6 hours in milky note is very prominent as well as cypress still. The vanilla is now coming out with a mellow sweetness that is so soft and yummy. This just keeps getting better.

I've recently become a big Ex Nihilo fan, now owning 5 bottles and 4 official travelers (and I have 2 more bottles on the way). Vetiver Moloko is by far the weakest bottle I own. And I don't mean the weakest Ex Nihilo- I mean the weakest fragrance period. I sprayed 4 times on my wrist and I don't even smell it. There is the slightest and most faintest woody scent detectable when I get my nose close- and that is the only way one would be able to detect it. Ex Nihilo Generations leaves more of a trail than this one. If you want a light, office friendly Vetiver scent, I might suggest Bond No 9 Governors Island. It's light, woody, and VERY office friendly, but at least it leaves a trail and is much more detectable. Thank God I bought this on the grey market (and yes, the bottle is legit- I checked it myself). If I bought this retail, I'd be very upset. The bottle itself is also beautiful- but I'm paying for a scent. Not just a bottle.

Starts out very faint, then becomes very creamy and sweet, before the bergamot kicks in and turns it slightly sour, like the vanilla milk has just gone off. It dries down beautifully though, the milkiness blending with the dry vetiver, giving it just a bit of greenness. The hint of vanilla rounds this off. It makes a pleasant non-offensive everyday scent, but not interesting enough for a full bottle for me.

A nice clean scent, similar to Aqua Vetiver from Claus Porto, but that one is better and at a better price point as well. Nevertheless, if that is not available where you live and you are craving a crisp clean vetiver scent that is still not like your just wearing fabric conditioner this is one to go for. I personally appreciate it. There is a tad bit of sourness that lets it down slightly 4 out 5.

Original Encre Noire + Milky lactonic vibe. if you didn't know Encre noire you may think this is great. but if you have and wear encre noire a lot you will think this fragrance is way too overprice for sure. it's good but it's encre noire.

This is a lovely fragrance. The vetiver is leaning quite creamy/vanillic instead of lactonic, still very smooth and enjoyable. Spring/Summer, day/night appropriate, decent performer, definitely a unisex likeable scent profile.

Bright citrusy vetiver with a nice milky opening. On the dry down becomes a little sour and smoky vetiver with no milkiness at all. Just woodsy and somewhat green. Reminds me of (homage to) Hemingway by Masque Milano.

Not exceptional perfume. It is vetiver and only that, with no original impulses. Moderate sillage and duration.

Oh my... This has the most beautiful, fresh vetiver and bergamot. Together, they remind me exactly of my favorite vetiver by Guerlain that used to come in the frosted bottle. However, here it is somewhat smothered in condensed milk. While I don't find it unpleasant, it is just not my cup of tea. I wish I could scoop off the cream and be left with just that amazing, high-quality vetiver and bergamot.

Smells great sprayed on a test strip or on clothing, but for me this one doesn't sit nicely on my skin. Far too green, with any of the creamier notes getting lost entirely. I wish I could enjoy this, but it's just not quite right for my body chemistry.

Vetiver Moloko is a vetiver as anomie: formless, lacking purpose, "perfect for the office," a "daily driver" vetiver, soft and just indistinct enough to be the most wallpaper vetiver I've smelled. A vetiver with the soul sucked out of it and replaced with froth and vanilla. It IS vanilla, vetiver-style or rather, vetiver vanilla-style. It has a shy but not so creative personality, too milquetoast to suggest the salt of the earth and the dirt between the blades of grass, the diametric opposite of Maitre Parfumeur Route de Vetiver. The dust on this vetiver is like that found on 21st century electronics rather than old furniture. It is unexceptional much the same way as any fragrance retailing $245 for 50ml can be today. Vetiver that plays it safe is much like patchouli that plays it safe—what's the point? Either without its earthiness is like a soufflé without butter. I am also not one to bemoan performance in a fragrance, but why on God's green earth is there a vetiver-centered fragrance that barely lasts on skin. Vetiver is one of the strongest natural fixatives. The cynicism of these luxury houses is beyond.

there's no nuance in this. just lots of acetated vetiver with some creamy facets slapped on it. I wore a couple of sprays of a sample out to a dinner with friends and it completely overwhelmed me with its intensity and synthetic chemical overdose. It put a damper on my night and I couldn't wait to get home to get rid of the smell on me.

This smells like a korma curry sauce to me.
