Ruby Wood

I say I own this...I actually do not! My wife owns it but you will get my review. I purchased this parfum for my wife and she couldn’t be happier. I haven’t seen her this excited over a parfum in a long time. This is an interesting fragrance! I sprayed one spray in my wrist and 4 hours later it still smells very strong and I don’t see it fading any time soon. I love this scent on her! It’s so complex. The perfume industry must keep an eye on this house! It takes so little to go such a long way it could very well possibly be the most affordable fragrance in our collection. I mean the amount of sprays that you use per day. How much money you spend per day smelling great! A 50ml bottle could last you a year. Versus something that cost half the price that requires 5 sprays per application and possibly two applications per day. 5 sprays of Ruby Wood May be considered over kill but that’s $1 US per day to smell this good if you find yourself needing that much. I doubt you will. Just for a comparison ...I spend roughly $6 per day when I want to smell like TF FF all day lol. So I hope this makes sense. Sooo.... Value: 11/10 : The perfumer is giving this product away at the current price! Longevity: 9/10: No complaints at seeing a perfume last 14 hours for $.60 Fragrance: 10/10: This is a unique blend that is complex and mesmerizing and reminds me of nothing else that I have smelled on the market! Packaging: 10/10: The beautifully designed magnetic folding box. The velvet seating for the perfume inside the box. The label on the bottle. The bottle itself. This is the benchmark of quality packaging. Overall: 10/10: This house is raising the bar of excellence.

I gravitate strongly towards masculine woody scents, and this is a gem for me, and unique, because despite all the floral and fruity notes, it doesn't tip into feminine or gourmand territory. It's fruity but not sweet. I get more of the aromatic oils and peelings of the fruit than the juice. A lot of green freshness as well from the coriander, cardamom and geranium. Pine is not listed but it's very coniferous to my nose; maybe that's the green notes and resins interacting with the wood. It's slightly reminiscent of Pine-Sol with the citrus and pine combo, but not in an off-putting way at all. Patchouli and rose are usually loud on my skin but here they are super subtle, more atmospheric. This is very well blended and smooth, but it also has texture and expressiveness. In terms of development, it's pretty monolithic and doesn’t change much through the drydown. It has massive, room-filling projection, so one or two sprays is plenty, but it's not heavy or oppressive. I've been sampling my way through the house of Exaltatum, and so far I am quite impressed. These scents have a distinctive style, are unique but wearable, and perform extremely well. I hope they receive the attention they deserve from fragrance lovers!

I love this fragrance! I think that this is such a unique take on rose, and I find it a bit hard to describe, but will try. This is a sweet, tart, dark, and syrupy red rose. Although rose may not come across as the prominent note, it is definitely in there. The raspberry, tart berries, pink pepper, patchouli, and woody notes are quite prominent in this one. If you are a fan of Eau Capitale, POAL, or Nevermore by Frapin then this is one to try (not dupes!). Ruby Wood is very unique, and I haven't smelled anything like this before. This lasts all day on me and sillage is moderate.

I don't get much rose out of this strangely. On me it's an almost pine-resin oud, a strong minty myrrh and a smooth earthy patchouli. Very well blended and both familiar and entirely unique. There's a coldness to it (frosted berries, piney oud and rose amber) that is very winter appropriate; but I also think it will be refreshing and lovely in the heat. Beautiful and underrated gem!

This is an amazing scent! To my nose, it is reminiscent of Santal Royal by Guerlain, with a less prominent oud and to which a light rose and noticeable raspberry is added. This projects! It’s unique, bold but refined. It makes me want to have voluminous hair and red lipstick.

Rose, berries and patchouli. Incredible sweet earthy rose and earthy patchouli with almost Coca Cola candy like vibe, stunning potency and longevity.

This is probably the most interesting, intriguing, and unique of the Exaltatum 2018 releases, a true piece of art. Although it did not totally suit my tastes, I appreciate the artistry in this and it smells like NOTHING that I have ever smelt before. It is very aptly named "Ruby Wood" and reminds me of Little Red Riding Hood wandering through a dark forest. It starts off with a bang and you get a powerful blast of berries, pink pepper, rose, geranium, patchouli and woody notes. I did not detect any oud (not the oud that I am used to) but maybe the oud she used coupled with sandalwood is giving off the woodiness. I don't get much coffee from it either. The myrrh used in it gives it a bit of a smoky vibe. It perhaps leans towards being feminine but I happily wear it as a man. It starts off strong with powerful projection and you think that it is going to go into beast mode. However, after about an hour or two, it calms down and stays within arms-distance. Longevity was a lot less than expected given the huge opening and I only got about 6/7 hours max on my skin, on clothing it was about 12 hours or more. I think fragheads will want to own this due to its enchanting mysteriousness, but I think it will be a hard sell to the average person at £130 for 50ml and £70 for 15ml.

This one is so gorgeous. It's a strong like but not a love because I really don't like any oud, but this oud is not barnyard or stinky at all. An oud I can actually wear. It's strong-only one or two sprays needed, and I do think it's a near perfect perfume. I absolutely love the tart red berries in this, and the rose is a dewy rose to me-I can almost see the dew on them in my mind's eye. The patchouli (which I love anyway) is not too strong here and not a dirty, earthy kind anyway. This does remind me of Isparta by the way, which I love too, because it's got those same tart berries in it. This lasts longer though. If you really love Isparta you should try this too.

Starts with sweet, fresh, jammy (not syrupy) Bulgarian rose. Big hazy patch. A hint of aromatic cassis. And loads of coriander (probably around the same amount as in Chanel Allure Sensuelle). Oud is super faint. It’s an acquired taste and a unique take but very wearable at the same time. The raspberry part smells juicy but airy. Don’t really get cardamom and coffee here. Soft resins stay as a background. It's been quite pleasant until later that cassis takes over a whole lot; it changes from rosy to aromatic blackcurrant real quick aka from tarty red to dusty violet with green base (as colour association). This also turns my mood from love to like-okay.

I am sampling this fragrance today. I’m not mad about the opening, can anyone suggest why I can smell Coca Cola in there? What ingredient in the opening notes would give this smell? However, it has now moved on from the opening notes and although there is a faint Coca Cola note still lingering, it has become richer with more fruity notes that I like. I will update this review when I have tested it properly over the next few days.

Stellar longevity, easily 14 hours on my skin and still going strong. A somewhat medicinal fruity rose. Top notch.

This perfume reminds me of Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady, good rose balanced perfume 🙂🙂
