Kiku

Ta-daaa!!! Finally it's here, the beautiful Kiku =)) We, my mums 3 youngest daughters bought this perfume to her for mothers day, it was way back in -73, or 74, and I think I was about 12 years. We were so very proud of this beautiful pressie we got for our beloved mummi, I can still remember that moment, and, her face, she wasn't that happiii... =(( I also remeber us in the shop, parfymeriet i Nefa-gården på Nesttun, sniffing a lof of perfumes, this very fancy yellow Kiku was all we could afford. And, I can still smell it in my nose / brain, it's very fresh, citrusy and so on, kinda sharp, my mother never ever used it, but guess who, who did?, the yellow elephant or me? BIG SMILE =))

I got a little Faberge gift set for Christmas just after I'd turned 14 in 1970: Tigress, Woodhue, and Kiku. Tigress was too heavy and mature, Woodhue I barely remember, but I adored Kiku's lemony, sort of herbal quality. It's been difficult for me to find scents that compare. Glad to have found this site so I can do some research! I think the bergamot and oakmoss were key.

Very nice scent. Light, sweetly floral, elegant and modest at the same time. Associated with a bizarre bouquet of rare and distinctive white and yellow flowers.

Kiku means "chrysanthemum" in Japanese and the yellow color was emblematic of that flower. Faberge released Kiku as a lightly Japanese-themed bath & body line back in the late 60s. The fragrance of Kiku is a lightly-sweet, subtly-aldehydic, spicy floral with tuberose, rose, sandalwood, a pinch of cinnamon, and a beautiful '60s musk. It's a lovely scent, like a '60s aldehydic floriental. I do not find this to have a dominant citrus quality like the reviewer below, although maybe it had more citrus topnotes in the '60s/70s when the bottles were new. On my own skin, when I wear Kiku and smell my wrist, it smells soft and lotion-like with a subtle spiciness, like I have a light dusting of real cinnamon on my skin....but your mileage may vary. Adding: Faberge attempted to replicate the success of Kiku by releasing another bath line in the early 1970s called Organdi, and this fragrance was specifically described in ads as "lemony" (which IMO Kiku was not). So I'm wondering if some of these other reviewers might possibly be thinking of Organdi when they describe Kiku as lemony/citrusy.

This is a sweet floriental with aldehydes. It's soapy but sweet and very sandalwoody drydown. Imagine a cross between Jungle Gardenia, Chanel No. 22 and the musk and sweet sandalwood of Ambush or Woodhue.
