Chateaux de la Loire

i've had a bottle for so long it has turned from brandy brown to toxic bright green. the scent has not changed - to me it smells at first strongly of salt and then something else (flowers and a powdery undertone and something i can't quite name) that invokes scenes from gothic castle-like buildings with brown wood panelled libraries and pale women in corsets, garters and rustling formal dresses. nivea cold cream. downton abbey, that house in atonement before the war. dry flower arrangements in the salon, gramophone parties, a summer, but a summer in an old sepia colored photograph. or maybe an opera on a winter night, the smell of this in the cuffs of a sweeping fur coat. a rather heavy, "serious", mature, very female (if you wearing this you gotta be wearing a dress, yo) perfume with great longevity and sillage. a very interesting fragrance, but. it's just... so... not... me.

Upon application there was alcohol then what smelled like benzoin, orange blossom and tonka. Then the bergamot/citrus really became present. Basically, a bergamot vanilla fragrance with some freesia and a little white musk that is a skin scent and cozy like a warm sweater or the remnants of a Shalimaresque fragrance on the skin a day later.

This is not a very good iris scent, but it does come off as an inoffensive little flower smell with some spicy, woodsy cedar mixed in. The longevity and sillage are not good though and it fades within the first hour. It is likeable and nice, not spectacular. As a lover of iris scents, it did not make an impression on me.

Шато-де-ла-луар для меня - как будто сквозь цветущий сад проносится майский ветер, он одновременно тёплый и свежий, очень тонкий и насыщенный цветами. Единственный недостаток - нестойкий парфюм.

A green and grey iris cedar scent. Dusty, vintage and absolutely gorgeous. Elegant and somewhat from another time. Powdery, woody, dry, vintage, timeless.
