Faconnable Pour Homme

Banger! This is a modernized take on an old-school ,classic fougere-style type of profile. The lavender here is a lot similar to the lavender in Le Male minus the vanilla. Has similarities to the OG Faconnable, but in a more approachable way considering today's "standards". This has a luxurious and very classy vibe to it. It's what i call "fresh-warm", meaning you get the light aroma when you sniff but you can feel there's some "weight" backing it. Thus, in my mind i see this being worn in a elegant event during the spring and summer days or nights, where you gotta dress up a little bit to match this scent...wouldn't wear this with a t-shirt and sneakers. Performance is very decent, i get 9 hours with this one during the summer but take it easy on the sprays, it can get cloying. For the price, you can do a lot worse and honestly, it surprised me when i first smelled this one.

A fragrance that retains that pre-aquatic early 90s freshness. Mint, citrus, yes, but derives some richness from the woody, mossy base. It is certainly floral too, in fact, it reminds me very much of an upscale Vicky Teil Ulysse. Faconnable is very smooth, no rough edges at all. Mature and a from another era of perfumery, it is nonetheless extremely classy and wearable. I enjoy it because it is a great masculine fresh scent that doesn’t rely on ambrox, amberwood, or calone to get the message across. In this way it comes across to me as higher quality and more interesting than so many modern fragrances trying to freshen us dudes up. Great value, great presentation too.

I believe this is the same as L'Original Façonnable. I own a flacon of this one and had a bottle of the L'Original a couple of months ago. From memory I judge that if there are differences between the two they are minute. The old school looking bottle of this edt tends to cost three times more than the repackaged version, so if one is not a hardcore fan/ collector I'd recommend buying L'Original. I menaged to buy this 'traditional' version for couple of bucks and I think this bottle goes great with what's inside.

An absolutely lovely fresh masculine fragrance, reminiscent of (and very close to) a fougére. The mint and the rosemary make everything seem even softer and soapier than most classic barbershop fragrances, and the impression this gives is of a kind of masculine gentleness. This is as easy on the wallet as it is on the nose, and it calls back to the great era of masculine fragrances in the 1990s. And I love the old-fashioned bottle and nameplate. This is hard to beat for the price.

Opens like a classic fougere barbershop scent. Strong lavender, citrus, and juniper. Later the sandalwood and nutmeg becomes more noticeable. Thankfully the oak moss is very subdued. A high quality scent for grown men with an unbeatable price.

I thought I was losing it. Upon opening, I was hit with a wave of violet leaf, and it continued on for hours. Checked the note listing. Nope. Checked the reviews. No one else mentioned it. So I poked around until I found a list of ingredients. Yep, Isomethyl Ionone is violet leaf. Vindicated! The ingredients also listed both Lilial and Lyral, which give lily, LOTV and cyclamen scents, which fills in another gap between what you smell and what is listed. I love barbershop fougeres, and I was excited by the comments that said this was an inexpensive masterpiece of that style. But I'm getting something else. The lavender and violet leaf are front and center in the opening, with mandarin playing a bit of a neroli part. Fresh, mildly sweet, this is a modern scent profile. At two hours, the lavender was in the background, the violet leaf was prominent along with the LOTV florals. A soft but undefined herbal accord was also playing a supporting role - the listed rosemary and nutmeg make sense here. But the promised cedar, sandalwood and oakmoss, as well as the geranium, are not noticeable except possibly as a smooth underlying tone. The peppermint (per the Faconnable site, not just mint) never really shows up except for a bit of skin cooling. As suggested by konitz below, this is very similar to L'Original. Per the Faconnable website, L'Original is a "modern take on our 1994 (pour Homme) fragrance." The official note listing is the same, but the website says L'Original is "Lilial-free". Not sure if that is the only change, but IFRA found Lilial to have a potential for skin irritation. I got a bottle of that one too, so I'll let you know my opinion. At four hours, the wafts from the 8 sprays to my chest and shirt are still moderate, which is impressive. Probably no projection beyond the elbows but this is a nice little scent bubble. It hasn't changed much in the last two hours, being quite linear, but there is a hint of fougeric notes albeit in the background. The promised woods and oakmoss still haven't shown up, and at this point, I don't have much hope that they will. As a masculine barbershop fougere, this doesn't make the cut. But standing on its own without expectation, it is an inviting, easy to wear scent that will please many and offend no one. It's performance is better than expected especially when I got this for $14. Punches well above its weight, and is truly unisex without being feminine. It has enough weight to be worn anytime except cold winters. Casual, date and work appropriate, but pick something else for formal occasions.

Faconnable is a house that seems to have a handful of "good value for the money" fragrances, so I'm surprised this one doesn't have more comments. I agree with the reviewers mentioning a barbershop feel, which comes from the heavy dose of lavender and sandalwood, though it's much more elegant and creamy to my nose than most fragrances typically given the "barbershop" label. I'd say it leans mature without being dated, and if you're a fan of 90s aromatics, like Burberry Men, Lalique Pour Homme, and Calvin Klein Eternity, this one will be right up your alley. Performance is adequate, particularly for a fragrance of this genre. It's far from the much-maligned reformulation of Eternity, that's for sure.

Faconnable Pour Homme Longevity: 7.5/10 Silage: 6.2/10 Scent Profile: 6.9/10 I have to redo this review because I did it so long ago, but this fragrance is very moderate and inoffensive. It starts off with a fresh rosemary-mint , before transitioning into a lavender-rosemary and slightly woody mid, which has a very slight mandarin undertone, before finishing a little fresh spicy, soapy, and woody. This fragrance is the equivalent of if you took Le Male EDT by Jean Paul Gaultier and replaced all of the warm and vanilla notes with rosemary. Not bad or good, just in the middle (this does not mean that it's mid). 6.8/10

Light fresh fragrance. I get the nutmeg and orange. Too little sillage and longevity for me. Got as a sample but will pass on buying a full bottle.

Blind buy at TJMaxx and worth the 20 bucks I paid for it! Excellent scent.
