Coyoacán

This is such an accurate, dreamy, BEAUTIFUL blend of creosote, nectar, vanilla, hibiscus and sage! Love!!! 🏜️🌵 I’ve been chasing an arid high desert scent and this hits the mark! Coyoacán feels atmospheric, warm and sun-baked, like terracotta houses in the southwestern desert. Takes me back to road trips I’ve taken to Taos/Santa Fe and Marfa/Big Bend National Park. Waking up in the car at a rest stop to endless horizons, a warm breeze coming up from a canyon, sun baked dirt and sand on your boots, mountain trails with sage brushes and wildflowers rustling in the wind, Reminds me of this breakfast place in Santa Fe that had these Mexican pastries with vanilla cream, dustings of cinnamon and agave sugar prickly pear soda on draft. This scent is an earthy, aromatic floral reminiscent of the southwest in spring/fall, spiced vanilla, syrupy nectar. At night, the vast starry sky opens up, the air cools, rocks lose their heat from the day’s sun, coyotes howl, you pull up at a motel with a neon sign of a cowboy. Vibe: A Horse With No Name by America. Beat the Devil’s Tattoo. Red Dead Redemption. The Marfa lights and all the art installations. The Alpine Hotel in West Texas. Long stretches of road with “tumbleweed crossing” signs. Georgia O’ Keefe paintings. The mystical feeling of the land in the wild west.

I got Coyoacan as a free sample with a purchase from Fantome. At first whiff I was crazy about it, and bought the oil roller version as soon as I was able to (I'm coming for that 50ml EDP very soon 😈). I've had it for a couple months now and learned a lot about perfumes during that time, but I'm still not sure how to convey my feelings about it. I'll try my best. I find Coyoacan to be intoxicating, mystical, and sensual. The vanilla is more of a spice than a gourmand and is not at all heavy, even in the heat. She *shines* on warmer/hot days. Although there is a slight sweetness to the scent (may be the nectar note), it's not cloying. Very smooth, very well-blended, the sum is greater than it's parts. I have yet to find anything comparable. Every other vanilla perfume I've tried is either too sweet or underwhelming, and I love vanilla. This is among the first perfumes I ever bought, and in my small but slowly growing collection, she still stands out.

cornsilk, cold dry air, and agua de jamaica con canela. an ideal scent for the transition of summer to fall, but it really could work any time of year. esperanza rising. love.

[perfume oil] an impossibly dry day at the pinnacle of summer in BC’s southern interior where i grew up, kicking up dust on a forest trail lined with massive pine trees. it’s so hot that the sap is baking in the trees and the air fills with the bittersweet smell of it. ouch my heart

A wonderful introduction to Fantome fragrances. The air and stone definitely bring a cooling sensation to the vanilla woods. I think it's approachable and interesting.

I really wanted to like this one but all I get is straight-up aggressive cinnamon.

This is really beautiful. The notes are blended so well that I didn't know what this was before I looked up the notes here. It is sweet and really really unusual. I can't really pick up any of the notes separately to be completely honest. Looking at the notes, maybe like a jarred hibiscus in honey syrup (the ones you use as fancy cocktail garnishes like maraschino cherries) but herbal, warm and witchy. This is not tropical in any way, which was why i hesitated on getting a sample. This is really really really good, I have never smelt anything like it. Definitely another one that i really really want. Fantome is odd because half of the ones I have tested have been complete nos but the ones that hit. Hit hard because they are so unique and magical smelling.

One of my favorite and most unique fragrances. Very atmospheric, and true to Fantome's description - like taking in a deep breath after a desert monsoon - air that's thick with wet creosote. The otherwise atmospheric notes (air/stone) are grounded with the vanilla, making it one of the more wearable petrichor type scents I've tried. I've tried both the EDP and perfume oil, and both have excellent longevity. I would say the EDP is a bit more dry, and that the sweetness of the vanilla is more prominent in the oil.

Petrichor on cobbled stone. Crisp morning air when Autumn finally hits. I don't get many sweet notes out of this and find the vanilla to be incredibly subdued, but a few friends have told me it seems "too sweet" for me. Wearable and very pleasant in the Summer, especially if you already live in the desert, and when there's sweater weather it begs me to fold my arms and bury my head in there just to smell myself. Comforting!
