Oud de Grand

Whoever dares to say anything wrong about this perfume, has just purely misunderstood it. What one can expect from this? A commonly known oud perfume mixture scent, where there is literally no oud? Majority of Adams work is based around ouds, but oud is never overpowering, Adam creates scents which have oud, but don't smell just like oud. Same can be said about Bortnikoff. They are blending their creations to find a perfect balance of oud to not overpower the composition, never, even in the drydown. Why drydown matters? Because oud is never as strong as top notes in the opening, but it can easily last all the way until the latest drydown. If anyone will tell me that they smell hell lot of oud in stuff like, e.g., Oud Zhen (adam) or Oud Maximuss (Bortnikoff), I will reply, that man, sorry, but you have to train your nose smelling pure oud oils, and not indoles from flowers and resins in a perfume. This fragrance is something else. In the opening it is clearly an indolic natural jasmine, nearly with the same strengh as oud, but still overpowering the oud. The balance is the word that comes to mind in the opening. Balance between two amazing raw materials, that are complex enough by themselves to be a fragrance on its own. I do believe that Pink Pepper is there to provide likeability to the hardcore concoction of oud and indolic jasmine in the beginning. When opening indoles and jasmine itself dry down, the composition goes into a natural oil-like pure oud smell. The one who looks for a nicely smelling and distilled oud, without skankyness and funkyness (I will remind, real oud should NOT smell like indoles and funky while florals openings, if you believed so, you are tricked. And we are not talking about fermented indian oud, it is not in here), this is the best fragrance that you can get. I cherish and love it. This is an amazing oud perfume, a lot more oud based than most of anything else you can find on the market. This is the oud scent where you will find real pleasant oil-like oud in the drydown. Anyone is disappointed in this as a perfume? Ok, go find a perfume composition with oud playing as a supporting foundation. This perfume is literally a oud in a bottle, with absolute non-linear opening and transition into dry-down.

Oud de Grand, Feel Oud. (Write from memory) I am in Jasmine affair again and I really enjoy how sweetish jasmine provide sweet ambient. Jasmine can be mushroom too (perhaps, should I describe it as Earthy) but in very underneath the floral sweetness and Indolic aspect. It happens that, Jasmin doesn't really last. And most of Jasmine fragrance are way to adjusted to the point that Jasmine is either Actor or Support. It doesn't really show, all element of Jasmine or let say - The Walk of Jasmine. Only Jasmine I really enjoy is Jasmine by le jardin retrouvé (Vintage). Even it proclaims as vintage EDP but it just didn't really stay that long. It is still, in the same house as Santa Maria Novella. It ends fast to little floral sweetness. I want the Grande. And I don't like JOY, the caramel muskbone is just too strong. When we talk about natural jasmine (by musk xylene) is overshadowed. I test this one, probably "same time last year" where I starts getting to know fragrance view. And I recall it today. Like in all of Sudden. I know it is the one. Oud de Grande, story telling how beautiful jasmine in natural walk stage with the oud that dial in perfect roll. It not over composition each other and it is all it has, Oud & Jasmine. It Echos each other and that is far more enough to enjoy because you could listen to it for a day or two. In the Natural and Pure Rhythmic Flow. It creates Strong Dynamic. Very good Tension, similar to Oud de Grande.

Oh man, first 2 testing was nah, this is floral oud combo which i really dont like, but i was so wrong. I was thinking that i smelled this combo before from others high end brands, but they werent ever close to this. At first try the jasmin was overpowering, but the third test showed me real magic. The hubba bubba like opening is stunning, its reminds me first feeling what i had from Odor 93 from tuberose in that composition, that reminds me almost something synthetic and unreal, the value of this feeling in oud de grand is same, but in really natural way. Its really addictive. Its like welcoming spring after winter, really innocent and realistic. Probably still not my to go perfume, looking on it as more on feminine side, not because its floral, but the smell is so innocent, that i can imagine woman dressed in white wearing this, not me, i have so much black inside of me. But at home im enjoying it, its calming me and i feel happy with it.

Red indolic jasmine and oud. Same thing can be found everywhere for a tenth of a price. Lazy sloppy job. Perfumers of their caliber should do better.

Sim I would say anything bortnikoff or Adam are making ate not on the low end of concentration. Most extraitsin the market are 25 percent or more. All my bortnikoff are like 35 and last forever. I only have 1 areej and it lasts 3 days lol. I have horrible skin so. Anyways, the idea that these 2 perfume geniuses get together and discuss fragrance, go to their lairs of incredible distills and pick oils to go into a perfume, then let us smell them. I have I try, didn't even know it existed until today

Also adding to dabearjew's point.. I didn't yet try oud de grande but if you have blended these oils yourself, you might have realized how a drop of rose otto or a few drops of jasmine can indeed transform or even dominate 1-2 grams of oud oil. Those floral essential oils are just more potent than oud oil so oud will inevitably take a backseat. One way is to use fermented oud - think hindi oud or something more smokey like merauke oud to add more depth to the fragrance. Hope that helps!

very nice jasmine anyway. Feel-Oud are quoted saying "approx 50% of the formulation is oud", -so if we count the minimum for extrait conc. (20%) -so out of 30ml thats 6ml fragrance oil per bottle -so out of that 6ml oil, approx 3ml is apparently oud. But I dont understand how there can be so much oud oil in the formulation, when it mostly smells of jasmine & it barely makes a bleached white blotter paper turn one shade darker...?
