L'Eau de Monsieur Patchoul & Réglisse

This truly is a hidden gem. Peppery licorice notes coated in earthy patchouli and vetiver. It's masculine and clean and makes me feel like sweeny todd without the murder, this is my go to barbershop fragrance. 8.3/10

I can’t believe no one has mentioned this fragrance! A true hidden gem. Spicy ,sweet , alluring, earthy and mysterious. My wife absolutely loves it!

A Givenchy Gentleman clone, in which I'm struggling to locate the licorice note. Like so much French design, the materials are simple but the pattern is typically complex: a hint of citrus at the opening is cut short by powerful blast of pepper (or maybe that's the famous licorice?) ; then the emerging floral note is subsumed in the dry down with astringent patchouli and vetiver. If you like traditional/ mature gentleman fragrances, however, you will enjoy this. The patchouli note is deep and rich and resonant with a Parisian romance by Colette, woven around the arcades and gardens of the Palais-Royal, circa 1900. This fragrance is very much like a French politician from the same era: partly grandiose, partly parochial and wholly obsessed with the mystique of French exceptionalism. The net result is very French indeed: chic, sophisticated and ... well, rather overblown. (Written by an Englishman).

Not much info on this one yet so here's my bit. Great scent profile this one, very gentlemanly without smelling dated. Opens with a well blended combo of the sichuan pepper, anise, patchouli and myrrh, unfortunately this scent fades fairly quickly for me. Performance I found to be moderate but there is a silverlining... the skin scent you're left with comes across as beautiful warm soft spicy with a nice dose of labdanum, I can't stop smelling my arm for that comforting sweetness, I might even wear this out on a date. Really pleased to find a barbershop style scent that isn't sharp/piercing with the anise/licorice note and one that has warm undertones, I feel a male of any age could pull this off, probably best for spring/autumn.

Really good quality stuff. Just received it today and will give it heaps more wearings. I had to google translate Réglisse and it means liquorice! I get the freshness, the earthy patchouli, nice sweetness from the Liquorice and tonka. Really pleasant, manly and sophisticated scent. Thumbs up from me so far!
