Essence Oud

In the cool desert night the caravans travel from Petra toward Caesarea on the edge of the Roman Sea. From as far away as India and Arabia they transport precious oils and spices on their way to the patricians of Rome. If the wind is blowing just right you can smell the exotic treasures they carry hours before the caravan appears over the crest of the high dunes. There is Saffron from India, wrapped in embroidered Cathay silk. Frankincense from Arabia is packed next to rose oils from Bactria, and caraway seeds from Persia all nestled in thick leather bags. Most precocious of all in the baggage train is agarwood oil, Oud which is treasured throughout the eastern empire. Not even the glittering night stars of the East can match the splendors of this cache. If the caravan is lucky and makes it past waiting bandits and marauders to the Roman port in Judea these precious and rare ingredients will find their way across the Mediterranean to the imperial palace on the Palatine. Some clever slave deep in the bowels of the palace will blend them into a wondrous perfume only to be worn by the Emperor of Rome himself. This exotic and spellbinding elixir from Ferrari, Essence Oud is my very first experience with an oud fragrance so that in itself is new territory for me. But if indeed the top note is oud then this is a sweet rich, deeply rich fragrance. (My research on oud suggests that this is the sweeter oud from Borneo which is flowery with honey like notes and fruity berry and wood.) It is almost candy like in essence but that fades into an elegant olibanum (frankincense) rose and caraway blending that is essentially very oriental and woody. The dry down is smoky leather and labdanum. The entire symphony of Essence Oud by Ferrari is one of luxurious notes and sensual harmonies. Not for young noses by any means unless they are sophisticated beyond their years. Dramatic and very grown up and for a man who is indeed aware of who he is. To borrow from Coco Chanel: The best perfume in the whole world is the one that smells good to you. Four hours in to this fragrance and it has evolved into something lush and mysterious. A slight smokey powder that is rapturous. Staying power so far is great. Next morning: twelve hours later there is a slight memory on my skin of the fragrance. Lasts a good eight hours in it’s glory. In 2012, Ferrari decided to start fighting within a new growing market, in which major brands are launching Prestige Lines (also known for Exclusive Lines) in order to meet the demands of its audience and conquer new users. Thus was born the Essence Collection, with more elaborated perfumes, more noble ingredients and greater concern in details, such as the bottles, for example, which are heavier, bring the brand embossed on the lids and are ornamented by the leather, which conveys luxury and sophistication. In Essence Oud, which was the first fragrance of the line, inspired by the prestige and elegance of the Ferrari Grand tourism spirit, the bottle was painted by nothing less than 3 layers of metallic paint called Rosso Maranello, created as a tribute to the Ferrari Four. And you should believe: it is infinitely more beautiful on hands, than in the pictures of the campaign. The fragrance is warm and vibrant, rich in resins and Woods. And as I always try to do in my reviews, I went to get information by the manufacturer, in order to describe the olfactory notes of this composition. At the output, we have notes of elemi, saffron and roses; in the heart, cumin, frankincense and Agarwood (also known as oud/aoud) and, finally, animalic accords, leather notes and labdanum, at the base. We have, then, an exotic perfume of Arabian style, with masculine nuances of roses and raspy saffron, introducing, in an extraordinary manner, the most beautiful part of the evolution, which revolves around the oud and brings the smoky incense of the frankincense. Forget the time factor and climb in this flying carpet, sliding at high speed by the desert sands, because only in this way, it will be possible to realize that the base notes decided to appear and the leather prints luxury, while the labdanum (very similar to the banned Ambergris) gives the animalic final tone. Projection and longevity are beyond expectation in this fragrance. I would say that Essence Oud is the bottled experience of an Italian man after visiting the Middle East.

To me, this smells like roses and candle light! This is the scent of the centerpiece on the table of a romantic dinner. Also, @OldChef, @edgeofscenty - You guys aren't alone, I've worn this to bed a few times myself! It's the perfect scent to wear to bed. It also lasts a long time on the pillow case afterwards, up to 3-4 days or so. It starts out rosey with a heavy resinous presence ( mostly elemi resin, backed by olibanum and labdanum), then within an hour, the oud starts to come out. The middle of its life is when it's most balanced, while the final dry down is sweet smoky oud, just a tad dirty in the best way. This is a very western take on the traditional middle eastern rose oud, but the LIFE of this scent is much more dramatic/interesting than most others in this category! The last waft of this scent smells nothing like the first, and it lasts for upwards of over 12 hours! In a prefect world, with no stress, no worries, no problems, this would be a real contender for being my signature scent. It might be "unusual" to some, but it's certainly pleasant to everyone. This is another hit from Ferrari! It's quite the surprise to get such amazing scent quality and uniqueness out of some of these Ferrari scents. Don't be afraid to try these just because of their name and price! Also - while I've expressed discontent with the painted bottle style being tacky before, I will say, that the paint job on this bottle DOES indeed look like car paint. I still wish all of the bottles were clear glass with colored leather, like the Ferrari Leather Essence bottle, but the deep red paint job on this bottle matches its scent quite well.

At last after buying a mini, my 100ml just arrived from an eBay seller. Amazing and really good quality. Highly recommended! Yesterday, a gorgeous woman, complimented this while I am inside a bank. Come to think, it was just 3 dabs from my mini, all around my neck. She said at first she smell semi sweet tobacco on me. But then as she was in line beside me, she smelled the whiff of this perfume and couldn't resist its charm that she have to ask me. Tobacco as how she described but then she was realized it wasn't as she is trying hard to decipher which note was she smelling on me. So I have to tell her that it is Oud or Agarwood and she was curious coz she said the scent was so refined and addicting. We had a brief talk about it and some of her perfumes too. This Essence Oud is just out of this world considering it was just pretty linear but the scent is drawing people to sniff, to be curious and to compliment. I have never found a fragrance that is as potent but as pleasant/magical as this new bottle from Ferrari. Today, my co-worker smelled on me Amouage Opus VI. He liked it so I dab a little on his hand. Then I left to have my lunch. At the post office, I received my 100ml of Ferrari Essence Oud so I tested it by spraying it on my back hand. When I got back from work, that co-worker of mine smelled the whiff of Essence Oud at me and informed me that it smelled better than Amouage Opus VI. So with a lot of compliments everytime I wear Essence Oud, I have no regret to have it in a mini and 100ml and very happy to make it my new signature scent.

Two years has passed since I bought a miniature. With much love, I bought a 100ml bottle within that week. Why? Simply because it is better than the high end niche oud brands I have worn. Have I regretted a single moment while wearing or even sniffing it? No! Do I ever get a negative feedback from people around me while wearing it? No! Do I get constant compliments? Yes! Do I feel the comfort, confidence and good feeling? Yes! This perfume is indeed quite strong and potent at first so it should be used with utmost care. When you get passed with its initiation, the dry down is a huge reward and treat to your senses. I must agree, if this is a Dior, Chanel, Xerjoff, MFK and the likes release, this for sure would get constant highest praises. To those who didn't aprreciate this blend, that is your nose and I still stick with my initial positive thoughts, then and now. Just like powerful oud based blended fragrances, smart wearing of this will bring amazing results. A near masterpiece from Ferrari.

Good stuff! Opening is oud with a hint of whiskey, which may very well be a snippet of the olibdanum shining through. Middle holds the oud scent powerfully and the leather stands out with a tiny bit of powder, as well. Exceptional sillage! For me, the rose everyone else is smelling seems to be relatively mellow. Dry-down is very much a pleasant incense-head shop skin scent. I get a good, strong 10 - 12 hours, and the scent-trail projection and sillage lasts for about 2 - 4 hours. WOW! This stuff radiates sex! I received a compliment the first time I wore it and many, many more since. Note that it applies mostly for fall and winter, but I wear it in the spring and summer, as well, and it performs exceptionally well! Great stuff in a beautiful bottle! UPDATE: I sure hope they haven't discontinued this scent! It is almost impossible to find now for under $60!

With an uncharacteristically cool spring here in the Midwestern USA, I'm reaching for this scent more and more often and loving it more each time. For the price (currently $25) you simply cannot do better in this category. This scent is on par with many $150+ niche fragrances in this category and worth experiencing for any oud rose lover. The heavy oud dry down is one of the most realistic I've experienced, however you'd never see it coming from the initial resin heavy scent of this fragrance. By all means, this is blind buy worthy and likely one I'll keep in my collection so long as it's available. Ferrari Leather Essence and Silver Essence are the best "mainstream" offerings from the brand, but this is probably the best offering for fragrance enthusiasts and possibly the best offering overall. Excellent scent, excellent notes, and excellent performance.

SUPERB! This is one of the best blind buys I have ever made. I do not have a frag testers nose, but I know what I like, and I got just what I expected! The bottle is finished to look like a beautiful, quality, automotive, paint job. The top resembles a leather-wrapped shift lever and the spray top is very precisely metered. Quality all the way! Scent-wise this reminds me of Comme Des Garcon's Avignon, but is much better and definitely cheaper. It opens for me with a very strong but pleasant wood(more like cedar pencil shavings to me). There is definitely an incense note as well. It finishes with a very nice woody, sweet, almost vanilla vibe. Longevity is longer than average for me(six to ten hours easily) and maintains a decent projection throughout. If you like Avignon, you should love this, and as I said it is much less expensive. Ferrari Essence Oud is a very nice rose, oud, earthy, powdery blend. I enjoy the oud presentation in this frag. It is not animalic or dirty at all. I compare it to the oud in Dirty English for Men by Juicy Couture only this one is less synthetic. This oud also persists into the dry down. I find that this is very well blended. I haven’t worn this in the summer yet but I’m guessing it will be a little fumy in the heat with the kind of scent profile that it has. I’ll update later in the summer season. The thing that I enjoy the most out of this is the rose. I don’t like a lot of rose based frags but this is one that I can wear. It is definitely a masculine rose. Earthy rose-ish powdery is something that I really like. It definitely smells differently on the skin than it does in the air. I’m glad to have this in my collection. Chopshop rating: 8.7/10

This is a compliment getter. Just received my order and first thing I did while at the post office is dab to my wrist. Man, this is paradise at top. Impressive. This is addiction. My companion who was with me smelled a whif of it while wind blew on us. She liked it, all the way. The heart until dry down is amazing. If this is what agarwood/oud is, then it is worth my spending. This will have a good place in my wardrobe, I shall save buying a big bottle soon. Astonishing fragrance. Scent - 10/10 Projection - 9/10 Longevity - 10/10 (6-9 hours) Update: After two days of loving this oud based perfume, I decided to order a 100ml tester, hoping the quality remains the same as this is now my new signature fragrance. Versatile, sensual, non cloying, sweeter than other oud based perfumes but very refined plus again, a hooker of compliments. Cheers!

ive tried many ferrari fragrances and none of them lived upto my expectations but when i saw this fragrance i thought it would be boring like other ferrari frags so decided to give it a try and the result was shockin this is the most beautiful ferrari fragrance and im glad that i tried it.It opens up dark and mysterious because of oud and this oud is sharp and carryin really animalic feel even though this fragrance is havin rose to make this fragrance sweet but it isnt.after some time leather plays the main role with oud with a touch of sweetness by the rose and the saffron. longevity is moderate but the sillage is outstanding but it lacks versatility only good for formal events and remember this is totally different from M7. m7 is sweet oud fragrance this isnt not a safe blind buy but if ure an oud lover then go for it

This is a truly amazing scent. It is quickly becoming one of my favorites. It is sweet, earthy, and rich; the oud is masterful in this one. I'm in heaven every time I catch a whiff of it. I've worn this and Rasasi Faqat side-by-side and I honestly can't tell a difference. They're nearly identical scents. They also offer very similar performance. I decided to buy this one for two reasons: it is less expensive, and the Rasasi has the cheapest, tackiest plastic bottle I've ever seen. The Ferrari, on other hand, is beautiful. In the picture, it looks cheap; in person, however, the bottle is thick glass painted with a gorgeous and deep metallic red, and comes with a heavy metal cap accented with brown leather and red stitching. Stands out beautifully in my collection. Scent: 9/10 Performance: 8/10

It has been around from 2012, and hopefully it is not discontinued. For me, it has got almost a legendary status. Bold statement? I'm afraid not. It is easily THE perfume that gives me most unsolicited compliments, it lasts 10-12 hours, it is not loud and pushy, it has an edge and keeps up curiosity, it keeps you awake, it is a a gorgeous blend of wood, hardened sap, flowers. The oud here is not really sickening, but rather a mellow one, which is a plus and it does not change very much either. It is a solid quality scent that I wish I had at least half a litre of. It is a very underrated winner, that DOES stand ground against renowned names of both niche and designer houses. It is a big all-rounder, for both work and social gatherings, for date and for a walk.

Yes, maybe, but ... Essence Oud is a very sweet version of Charriol Royal Leather, a version of TF Tuscan Leather, with plenty of roses but it is a very lovely fragrance. It is like TL, or RL made to please the commom wearer, without the fancyness or fuss that go along with the experts on duty. I was suprised by the sweetness I could still smell next morning on my shirt. A sort of butterscott light vanilla caramel, very yammy and genderless as sweets are, really. All notes seem a little over the top but the volume is almost mute not to disturb anyone around. It is hard to beleive that it is intended to the Middle East market because it is a very soft, suave scent. It's also a bit dear.A Ferrari for the price of a Chanel? The bottle and cap are very nice, too.

i sampled 4 of the Ferrari line. This was my favorite. There's many ways to do Oudh, but this was sweet animal musk to me. It had that musty sweet honey saffron vibe the whole way down, softened with Rose. There is leather, but it's more of a fresh factory leather that's been bathed in leather conditioners and cleaner. So there is a chemical vibe that's akin to "new car." Quite classy take i must say. I noticed this sweet mustiness, that really is like the Elemi resin note in Playboy Hollywood. Faint citrus in that one. I'm impressed with this line. Projection: moderate Longevity is the best of this line. Lasted all day on hot Florida summer. softens to a powdery sweet Rose.

[50 ml eau de parfum, batch 0712V505 not recognised...] Smells like a million dollars... absolutely gorgeous !!! Sweet ... Sexy ... Smokey ... Special ... Shared during intimate moments in cold winter nights... I would have never guessed its price tag!! [if it was made by Tom Ford it would sell x10 in price] Very strong rose smell and oud [rose>oud at times]. Takes around 20 minutes to settle... Good longevity and average projection. This is a good cop bad cop in one. You gotta look sharp to pull this one off, if you're dressed well people will think and believe you smell like a $250+ fragrance. if you're just hitting the road casually or under, they'll think you smell like a very WRONG fragrance. so yes sometimes you'll love it's sophistication and times you'll know it's not the right one. You'll want to keep it though coz u know someday a scenario will come for it. Three's a little Myst in the 2 hours drydown mark that I like to call it a sour version of PDM Layton although they both share zero notes. 8/10 long lasting for Winter/Fall ... smart casual/formal wear.

As a newbie to oud, this is a very good 'beginner oud'. Whilst in Oman, the taxi drivers used resins and oils to fragrance their cars. At the time I did not know what oud, and in fact other resins, smelled of. Ferrari Essence Oud is pretty much the scent of the taxi. I remember thoroughly enjoying my taxi rides, mainly because of the wonderful scent they used! Back to the fragrance. An enjoyable scent to wear, somewhat heavy so perhaps best suited to colder times, longevity is good, not as long-lasting as some have mentioned (on my skin, anyway) and projection is moderate-to-good. My first Ferrari and oud scent is, overall, a winner.

Blind bought as I was looking for my first oud rose combo. This definitely fits the bill. It's smoky and a little sweet as the rose makes itself known, but it's mostly oud and that smokiness that I get. It's fairly linear, not very subtle but not extremely loud either, very oriental vibe. I get a 3 foot projection for a good 4/5 hours. Longevity is excellent, especially on clothes, and it lasts 8h+. It could be unisex according to my girlfriend, ut I'm not completely sure about it. Age: 30+, for evenings, not for work IMO. Overall, a quality scent perfect to get into oud scents, it performs pretty well for the price tag.

My go to winter scent. This is something I wear for myself around the home. It lasts most of the day, i spray it before sleep it gets senses soothing, relaxing almost for calming aromatherapy and therapeutic. The opening is loud, it's a luxury rose soap, I adore it, although it may be feminine to some. After 30 mins the rose takes a backseat and the incense/saffron comes forth with a slight smokey oud, rose still hangs around tho. Performance is decent. Long lasting. Beware though if your in the western world it's a daring fragrance that seems it would be more a middle eastern vibe. Its sensational frag tho.

IMO the best Ferrari fragrance I ever smelled. Perfect fragrance as the rose is not too strong nor dirty (I don't like that too much) in the oud-rose combo but soft and a little powdery and also the oud itself does not scream neither smells medicinal or band-aid like. Fragrance lasts through the day with perfect sillage, evolves a lot and ends up after about 10-12 hrs with a very nice, dry and powdery leathery labdanum smell that actually smells a bit like the main smell of Davidoff Leather blend, which is an excellent leather fragrance! Really love this stuff! Rating: 9.5/10

This is my go-to when I'm dressed up for formal occasions. Simple but classy, strong-performing, dark and dense oud-rose. The oud-rose combined with the sweet resins evoke the scent of cocoa or dark chocolate in the base. It smells expensive for its cheap price. Most people wouldn't know this was a $30 scent if I didn't tell them. Average longevity but the scent really lingers around you. It's fairly linear so it's safe to spray on clothes for more longevity, but let it mellow down for a bit before you head out.

It has been more than a month and still running as my signature scent. Compliments on compliments, even my peers would want a decant. If you see my wardrobe, there are amazing fragrances (designer, niche and oud) for men that I have but this one, it is simply on the top. My "go to" bottle and going stronger everyday. Never cloying, not too sweet, well refined. A masterpiece! I have no more positive words to tell about this perfume but it is very close to be the "holy grail".. A perfect blind buy!

LOVE LOVE this!!! Its Daring to the western world. I wear this to the Office here in Oz in winter. It enters BEAST mode and you only need minimum sprays. A very unisex Frag, which my Wife says its a little feminine. Rose is what i get most, mixed with Oud and Incense as it dries down. I must say it is just superb, if you like Rose, at this price id recommend trying. Its a very middle eastern vibe thats outside the square. Defintely for fragheads that can wear a fragrance with confidence.

I'm an Indian guy, we have always had different types of Oud perfumes/oils in my home, some smells creamy/thick (Boss Bottled Oud) and some earthy/grassy oud. But this Is AMAZING!!!, Spicy/Smoky/Oud which you will smell the same from the youth until it's maturity. Let me make it simple how this smells like, Bakhoors are type of wood based oud which can be used by burning like incense. Imagine the Oud wrapped up in Spices being burned and all the smoke engulfs you.

I always though Tomford oud is the best and only oud out there and walla I found this... wasn't very excited to try it. The first time i used it and i was blown away by the beautiful composition. You smell beautiful rose & oud combination. The dry down is as beautiful as the opening. It lingers around and there is a nice smoky feel. It draws ladies like a magnet ;) The longevity is like 10+hours and sillage is heavy as well. A must buy for every oud lover.

Then & again, 8 months has passed, still lotsa compliments especially women, long lasting & very refined on my skin & undoubtedly still, my signature scent. Simply Wonderful & highly recommended for oud & non-oud fans. One of the most Versatile perfumes that smells so rich, deep, sexy, casual, formal and exclusive. Grab a miniature now.. You won't regret as it will lead you for a full bottle, the way it did on me.

OMG this smells amazing! This reminds me of when my mom burns some oud wood and strangely it also remind me of the aromatic flavorful food back home! I don't understand how someone could ever not like this! It does smell very "Arabic" I would say since I'm from Dubai and back home we're used to such scents (oud).. So some westerners might not appreciate it.

high quality Eastern oud. sweet rose not cloying. a large scent compared to my first impressions not exciting for me the best rose oud so far, waiting to try montale black oud and davidoff hot water night. not too intrusive but this excellent performance. longevity: 6 hours average sillage.. I feel much clothes. a must have. good quality/price ratio.

The guy below me wrote a book. My review is simple: this fragrance is great. Sure, the rose/oud combo has been done before. Initially, you may not be impressed by the opening, but once it dries down, it feels elegant. Give it time and you'll love it, too. Beautiful bottle, beautiful fragrance, lasts a long time. A gem in the Ferrari Essence line.

It's not a pungent Oud. Most of what you will smell is Elemi and Rose in the opener. The oud comes out 20 minutes after. You WILL be turned off if you stick your nose into the initial spray if you don't like sweet scents. 8/10. Not a masculine workplace scent due to the rose and sweet scents that linger. But great for formal venues.

This is my new signature scent...a true edp indeed...70% alc lasts for about 24hrs plus its really oily too. matured sweet rose+oud+leather...very potent stuff. I really think this is way better than many Eau De Parfums from mainstream and niche designers out there and can compete head to head with them. *****5 stars

@OudSan, if you ever make it to the drydown, this is most assuredly oud! You may not notice it because it's hidden by the resins in the beginning, but the oud is actually the longest lasting note, and that's all you'll smell after the 15 hour mark or so. And to everyone else, yes, this scent DOES last THAT long!!!

This is a nice oud, incense and rose fragrance. It starts with a blast of oud that quickly calms down to a rose and incense fragrance with oud lurking in the background. It has excellent longetivity (12 hours +) and very good sillage and projection. What a nice surprise from the Ferrari house.

Predominantly oud and some rose. That ́s it! Very strong at first, but after 2 hours it starts to fade away. Nice surprise,specially for a Ferrari, since I don ́t like any of its other fragrances. High quality oud. Unfortunately, it doesn ́t last too long on my skin. 4 hours top.

A very nice fragrance in a beautiful bottle. The juice is really good, oud is not so strong as is in Black or Dark Montale, but you can smell oud here. Projection and longevity are both impressive The box say EDP not EDT as show the description here. 9.75/10

this, definitely is the most powerful n distinguished fragrance from ferrari. it's modern, yet classic at the same time. but no way for the weak at heart, this potent powerhouse. the longevity of this is monstrous. kudos to the house of ferrari fragrances.

lovely, sensuous and not too expensive. Rose (surrounding the oud) really does the trick here. Smells like a million dollars. Restrict to colder months. For summers, Mont Blanc Individuel is the king. *PEACE*

Take Versace Man and add Oud, Rose and resins, intensify saffron. You have this beautiful work of Ferrari, which now enters the high level perfumery . Intense, seductive, elegant!

This is what I expected Amouage lyric man to smell like! Plush middle eastern rose oud combo although the oud takes a back sit but nicely done! Solid projection! Solid longevity!

This is a great perfume. Kind of masculine and very leathery. Projection is average and often get the blast of fragrances in between. Last for 4-6 hrs without sweating :-P

This is as mellow as any oud fragrance gets. It's silky smooth. I truly enjoy it.
