Autumn 23

I forgot all about this one! At first, was a bit underwhelmed with it - felt a bit 'thin'. I put it the dark cupboard and got on with life lol! During a clear out - I rediscovered it. It would seem that age/maceration has proven very successful. Given that it's one of the hottest days and this is meant to be an 'autumnal' fragrance - I didn't think too much as I spritzed - by jings... All the notes I'd wanted way back then are there.. And then some! It's actually lovely, peppery and natural - reminds me of jumping around the hay fields in the sun as a tiny wee girl - but not rotten stinky hay... Clean, earthy with a bit of sweetness. It's incredibly wholesome! It's certainly unique and after 6 hours I can still smell it - the dry down is simply lovely! I've just rejoined the ledger 😅 Edit to add: This layers spectacularly well with my beloved/sig scent 'Knowing' from Estee Lauder. Maybe a nice little add for seasonal dimension 👍👌

This scent is so, SO beautiful. For me, it starts so unexpectedly with the dry sharpness of lemon, and grassiness of fig (which I initially thought was too harsh on my skin) and (oddly) the pencil-sharpening scent of cedar. Still, it settles within 15 minutes into the floral, gently spicy mid-notes. Within an hour the hay, vetiver and labdanum are pronounced and the scent smells gorgeously creamy, warm and resinous. I can't express how surprising and lovely I find this fragrance. Being on the Ffern Ledger for almost 3 years has taught me so much about what natural scents smell like, after many prior years of nose-numbingly generic synthetic fragrances.

i am just starting to figure out "fragrance" and finding scents that i want to wear and will draw me in... i know at 28 years old i'm blooming a bit late on this one... but as someone who is just getting into the idea of wearing perfume, finding something like this was a dream come true. this one is smoky, almost, very leathery, but it feels at the same time restrained, feminine, and soft. my husband, who notoriously gets headaches around my beloved essential oil diffuser, would always comment on how wonderful i smelled when i put this one. i have a few sprays of it left and i know it will be hard to part with it.

unfortunately, this is my all time favorite perfume that i have ever worn in my entire life (unfortunate because this scent, as is true of all ffern seasonal scents, is extremely limited and cannot be bought again once it sells out). the top notes of spice and pepper and citrus make way for this breathtaking blend of orris, basil, hay, and vetiver. the lemon, bergamot, and orange keep things buoyant while that tar notes helps keep you firmly planted with earth between your toes. i still haven’t smelled anything like it and i think i’ll search for this smell in everything i ever whiff of.

If I could get past the punch in the face that is the pepper I’d probably like this perfume more. Only thing I can say is avoid spraying it around your neck unless you love smelling straight peppercorn for the first 10 minutes or so. Dry down is better but that first spray is just too much for me. Edit; It has since grown on me a lot, I just hold my breath :)

My perfect autumn scent. I wish this wasn’t a limited edition so I could spray with abandon! It starts as petrichor and hay with a little smoke..a haunted hayride on a wet autumn day. It morphs into spicy apple cider on my skin, the perfect finish to the haunted hayride! I adore it, I get so many compliments when I wear it.

One of my top three favorite scents of all time. Ugh, I just love it. I will for sure be buying it from the Archives when I run out. It's smokey, spicy, and green in a really interesting but wearable way. TBoneTheFella describes it perfectly.

The birch tar and the hay come through really strong to produce a very unique scent. It's fantastic and most people compliment when I'm wearing it. The last few fferns of this year are nothing to write home about, this has been the standout.

The late autumn evening sun reigns heavy as it begins to sink into the horizon line over the ocean. The evening's crisp air beginning to peak its head, but you wore a leather coat out so it doesn't matter. The smell of the fig trees, fresh herbs, and cedar caught in the cool air as you head out into the city with friends. The night has quite literally just begun. Life is good. I had to really let this baby macerate for a fair amount of time in the dark before I could come back to this when I first got it in. When I first got it in, the Sichuan pepper really took over the beginning and it was a bit too sharp for me, but now that it's settled down it became this beautiful green and tropical opening with this slightly sweet fig leaf that settles into a sharp, clean and citrus-y leather scent, and finally drying with a slight smokiness. It is a scent for any time, and any place. A surprisingly niche yet mass appealing fragrance that I can't see anyone disliking this. 7/10 I was worried when I started with Summer '23 for the pitiful performance and projection, but this one is not bad at all. There is enough potential from number of sprays to go out and go loud, as well as understated and cool at work. Pretty cool. Happy Smelling!

Drinking a hot toddy in a room full of rare books. The air is a little brisk outside, but you just climbed the stairs, so you're damp under your jacket. Browsing the worn, leather spines while you sip your drink, getting immersed in the idea of a world where books were such precious and rare things. It's cozy, but you feel strangely out of place in a room with so many old, precious things. I'm surprised I don't hate this, since I tend to dislike leathery scents. Still figuring this one out... has a subtle warmth and citrusy tang as it settles into the skin. My boyfriend always likes it when I wear this. It's hard to determine a time/place when this would feel appropriate to wear, but I'll dabble as the weather turns cold. I appreciate this scent since it's so different from what I usually wear, but will I miss it when it's gone? I don't think so.

Opens strong leather/musk but settles into warm and spicy cedar/hay. Tobacco and Vanilla but w/ a slight vegetal sweetness peeks through. Citrus does not come through as much as I was expecting. This is a good scent to wear if you are sensitive to fragrances as it sits close to the skin.

elodie i am begging you to let go of the hay notes, that is practically all i can smell in the last two autumn fragrances. Autumn 24 is at least less hay-intense than Autumn 23 but it’s still pretty prominent for me, reminds me of cleaning out the stables as a kid but not in a good way. i feel like there are some really interesting scents packed in here that develop on the skin over time but i cannot smell them over the aroma of damp hay lol

Actually smells like early fall. Opens with a vivid blast of citrus, pepper, and fig leaf that feels like stepping outside in October when the sun still shows up. Warmth builds from the base; herbal, gently sweet... but it never fully commits to cozy. Once your breath starts showing, this scent feels like it forgot a layer. Still, it’s beautifully blended and wears just right. Long-lasting, with solid sillage and none of the “Where did it go?” panic three hours later. MOVIE MATCH: Little Women (2019) — textured, bright, comforting, and classic with depth if you’re paying attention.

i only smell spices, even in the dry down.. smells like a spice cabinet. not a fan
