Pogostemon

At the initial spray this comes off very animalic. I mean zoo-like animalic. Inside-a-horse-stable, animalic. However, give this about 5mins, tops, and it unfolds into a delicious woody, tonka, vanillic, patchouli'd, dare I say, spicy, earthy, gourmand fougere??? Albeit still slightly animalic. Which, by the way, makes this Freudianly sexy. Anywho, I believe the stink comes from the cocoa absolute in combination with the patchouli, but in any case this is a must own for the lover of complex, wearable, scents. Perfect for the start of Spring and Fall. Can even satisfy on not too hot days of Summer. A day time, weekend scent, that can even be used as a vacay scent; depending the locale. It wouldn't work for Winter because it holds so close to the skin that it needs heat to really push out. Imo, at least. Why it's not talked about is just the usual politics of fragcom is my guess. Not a popular enough house to get views &/or likes or even bragging rights. I recall checking out all of this line in a Manhattan boutique and,of them all, this one really resonated with me. Walking around in SF a few years ago, I saw this in a boutique, and, not really knowing anything about the house, I tested some on a hand, and was mesmerized as I walked around the Mission surreptitiously sniffing my self. I didn’t know at the time that Pogostemon was the name of the patchouli plant, but I knew that this unique, cocoa-animalic thing was built on a sturdy patchouli base. I’ve since tried most of the Fiele fragrances, and find that most really interesting and enjoyable. I think this might share some components with Myrrha and it also feels related to Juniperus; some type of “Fiele-ade” ties a couple of these together to my nose. Nonetheless: I agree that this brand flies under the radar, but they really do compose some excellent fragrances that, as I understand it, are pretty natural-heavy and really smell like it. If I recall correctly, the creator had some connection to OLO, and I sense some affinity of style here. There’s no fizzy artificial sparkle or plastic sweetness, just earthy richness and depth. I’d certainly recommend trying the house if you haven’t, and think this to be among their best creations.

I tried a bunch of different samples under the umbrella company Capsule which includes Fiele Fragrances in its brands and this one was so intriguing. Like another user said, the initial spray is super animatic and the description of a horse stable is so accurate to my experience. But that only lasts a couple of seconds and it settles down into something deep very chocolatey, slightly sweet. This scent was so intriguing to me because I always thought I hated the Whole Foods patchouli smells- but this is nothing close to that. It’s so subtle, sweet and grounding. All the notes blend so well together and it is not overbearing or loud. After running through my sample, I had to get the full bottle. I have a few others from both Capsule and Fiele and definitely recommend checking out the brand. I will say a lot of the other Fiele scents contain heavy indolic jasmine which was too much for me.

A very dirty and musky patchouli/cocoa bomb that might be too much for some people. I for one am intrigued by this one. For one, the ingredients are high quality. The packing and bottle isn't much, but if all of the resources go into the juice, then I am fine with that. This is dirty and skanky but it's somewhat refined at the same time. I think its due to the fact the quality of the ingredients are so good. The dirtiness makes this lean more masculine in my book, but the right woman can pull this off, especially if it were layered with something else. This is a true patchouli lovers dream, anyone searching for a solid true to life patchouli essence, they will love this. Everyone else should steer clear. This is one spray, two max kind of scent, too much will just ruin the effect. Less is def more here. Thumbs way up.

“Pogostemon” in this context translates to patchouli, and that is what you get. It is hardcore in the best way. Thick, drenched in that dirty petrichor that patchouli brings, with sweet tonka, cacao, and vanilla letting the main event shine through to create a warm blanket of spice for the wearer. It has dynamic sensuality, and the dry-down is gold.

I have a sample of this man I wish this projected more , alas the issue w/ all natural fragrances. Very patchouli forward, then cacao and vanilla are pretty strong. Faint , less chocolate version of Borne 1834. No sillage. Its pleasant. I don't think its full bottle worthy for me.

I grew up in the Age of Aquarius and Woodstock. I was the hippie chick who wore Mysore sandalwood oils and good ambers. I’ve always loved perfumes that are more incense than flowers. All I have to say is this isn’t your grandparent’s patchouli. The old patch oils were intentionally strong and acrid to hide the smell of pot. If someone reeked of patchouli back then, they were most likely stoned. I hated the smell so avoided anything with patchouli for years. While this is clearly patchouli, it’s the real deal. It’s elegant, mysterious, exotic. This is the stuff that is the backbone of really beautiful perfumes. I wear it alone and I layer it with other perfumes. I have a niche dark amber oil that I wear with this. I have several Serge Lutens that work beautifully with this. It’s also lovely alone. My skin eats perfumes but I still get decent sillage longevity with this. The truth is that if you love nice soft floral scents, you’re probably not going to care for this at all. I love this perfume and hope I always have a bottle on hand.

Goes on excellent, natural patchouli, lacking all hippy oil connotations. Dries to galbanum forest wood notes and a tarry wood vibe, but has a screechy high dusty note that gets up the nose and ruins it. Ends smelling kinda old and tacky on me. I hate this at the end and it won’t scrub off. Very good quality scent. But the faint florals with woody loud notes really do fit that hated phrase “old lady.” I’m getting up towards old lady myself but as offensive as that phrase can be it does accurately sum up what I dislike about this fragrance. It is dusty, faintly ashy, smells dated and old fashioned and powdery, but at the same time is a loud perfume scent. Comparing my review to the previous reviewer's, I have to say sample this before committing to a full bottle, because it's aggressive!

Tried this at one of their brick and mortar locations in LA and loved it, purchased a full bottle a month or so later during their mother's day sale. Wonderful patchouli and bittersweet cacao and the peppery note is very appreciated. Very warm and not as sharp or herbaceous as other patchouli scents - something I love in other patchouli forward fragrances but the added warmth and spicyness makes it feel intimate and unique to me - some other reviewer called it "skanky" and I agree wholeheartedly (in a very good way). Sillage is very small though and I find I have to douse myself to smell it past the first hour. Still, regularly in my rotation for late nights and dancing.
