As if you cracked off a bit of dry bark from a living pine tree and sniffed the particles as they float away on the breeze. On the dry down, a little bit of dust and old paper, like the back room of a rural library. Slightly spicy. Warm, gentle, and perfectly smooth. An incredibly elegant masculine scent without any of the typical cologne vibe.

i feel like this is a very "fuck off, don't talk to me" scent. i mean that in a good way. it has this charred sort of feel to it that is verging on barbecue territory, but not quite. it also smells like being in a historical building with a bunch of old leather and machinery around. it's a very "blacksmith at a renaissance fair" type of deal. it has a slight resinous feel to it, but that's mostly buried by the birch tar. i'd say it's resinous around the edges. i think this could possibly be brilliant layered with something sweeter to try and bring out the vanilla and the tonka bean. maybe a vanilla rum or bourbon sort of deal? we shall see. otherwise, i think it's a little too heavy for me personally, but it's still a super interesting fragrance that i think would be fantastic on the right person.

There's a strong Night Air atmosphere to this one that I really like, but the night air, grass, wooded area smells share with a touch of what I can only call Septic Tank. There's a rank, metallic animalic note there that I dislike intensely. It dries down without that note, but the tobacco/wood, opoponax resinous woody darkness gets taken over by birch tar. Birch tar is an excellent smoke scent, but on my skin it always veers plastic, and this does that unpleasantly. It occludes the lovely Outside at Night feeling, which is otherwise evocative and great. Worth sampling, I think, for sure if you like dark, smoky outdoorsy scents, but if birch tar isn't your pal, skip it.
