SIXTEEN DAYS

absolutely glorious. i can't get enough. the carnation, neroli, orris root on a bed of tolu balsam, amber, and sandalwood allude to some of those 1980s classics and the 1930s juggernauts that inspired them, but this is still very much its own thing. i imagine a lydia deetz type, going through her grandmothers things, and finding an old photograph of a fabulously weird woman and vintage bottle of shalimar and realizing, oh, i'm not so different and alone after all. she wears sixteen days to remind her of that, while still being wholly her own person. to me, this one is all about the tolu balsam and vetiver accord. it's dreamy. then the carnation adding a bit of that classic carnation-spice and the bergamot and petitgrain giving a spritz of freshness. the omission of oakmoss keeps it modern (in the context of the other notes), the omission of vanilla keeps the resins more earth bound rather than sweet and creamy. the floral notes of neroli and rose are in perfect balance with the balsam and amber, nothing is too dense or syrupy. i really love this house ! i love their inspiration, i love their ethos. i can see myself repurchasing sixteen days again again (which is doable because of the digestible price point !)

drydown smells exactly like beeswax in a nice, folded overpriced clothes at the hippie boutique way. the flannel-wearing sadbois of seattle are sleeping on this one, they will never discover it, though they should :'(
