This feels like something a designer house should make-- it's a highly palatable, aromatic citrus vanilla. Main components are a beautiful soft lavender and rich clean patchouli. Heliotrope and vanilla add a marshmallow lightness that is grounded by the cedar and vetiver. The scent isn't polished like most designers, and in fact the ingredients almost feel gritty, but the vanilla makes it plush and velvety, softening the sharp herbal facets. It ends up being sweet as a lemon tart, somehow gourmand, herbaceous and woody all at once. These contrasting qualities make it difficult to describe, so by all means worth testing. The L'air Du Desert Marocain comparison is tempting, as it's a tart lavender, but where that perfume is dry, warm and spicy this one is cool, herbal and woody. I'll probably replace my LDDM with this, actually, since it's so much mellower and less spicy. As a color, I picture this scent being a pastel shade like lilac or mint green. The strident cologne accords lean masculine to some, but since this is very sweet and absolutely demolishes the likes of Mon Guerlain or Libre Intense, I'll wear it proudly. Weirdly enough the only thing I don't like is the concentration-- it starts out extremely strong and sharp, so I usually spray on my clothes to diffuse that a bit.

If this perfume were a place, it would be a windowless lair with black lacquered walls and a cavernous ball pit, filled exclusively with black foam balls. It's a moody playground for an audience of one. Lonely but joyful, playful but melancholy. And, above all, completely self-indulgent. While it doesn't smell synthetic per se, it does smell removed from anything natural. It turns vanilla and lavender into something abstract, with a texture that's so smooth, it's almost plastic. But that's the point. This is about a form of escapism so decadent and so inward, it doesn't even intersect with nature. It's about a self-indulgence that's so complete, it's closer to death than life. Or, to put it another way, Ennui Noir is the private room in your imagination that you retreat to whenever you want to avoid the responsibilities that come with life. Even as a part of you knows that avoidance is never the solution, another part of you (the Ennui Noir part) understands that that's part of the thrill. In a world where everything's measured in terms of productivity, competency, efficiency, maybe there's something beautiful, even poignant, about wasting your life away. Maybe, Ennui Noir whispers to you, it's even the ultimate form of luxury.

I wanted to avoid the notes for this, as I wanted it to sit with me until I identified it. This scent hit me like a punch. It is profound, lonely, cold, and devastating. It smells like the resolve you feel when life gives you one further knock, yet another disappointment or frustration. It smells like the fortitude that floods in from out of the blue, of a new disregard for what others think, and a determination to seek your own best interests. The colour is ultraviolet light. It is synthetic, though beautifully so. It is cold, with only a powdery element which could be perceived to be even lukewarm. It's all rather Serge Leutens. It's lavender! It took me several wears to identify it. I can't fathom how it was so difficult to pin down. The cedar in the middle of the pyramid becomes somewhat alien when paired with heliotrope, it keeps me thinking along the lines of tuberose, or even lily of the valley. It isn't a coquettish floral, it is like a cut flower found in a strange location, a flower used in some spell indoors. Gorgeous, vengeful, selfish. 10/10

Incredibly nostalgic scent for me. It reminds me of those edible necklaces made of sugar candy. The vanilla is the main star, but is more light and fresh than warm and sweet. Comforting without being nauseating. It's so different than the name suggests for me. I expected something austere and dark, this is the opposite. Rich, sweet, light. Pastel colors and crunchy sugar. The transition between spring to summer when you're a child, seen through the lens of memory. The cedar and vetiver notes bloom after dry-down, turning it into a slightly colder and less childhood-reminiscent scent. As a wood note fan, I find it gorgeous. The patchouli is present but as a support to the other notes. I am usually very sensitive and disgusted by this note, but here it is working beautifully. 9/10 would happily wear this, not enough my vibe to be a signature scent but a gorgeous fragrance nonetheless.

It leans rather feminine to me, however Ennui is not a girly-girl or a sophisticated lady, but a young woman with depth, grit, and some playfulness. The florals in the opening, juxtaposed by the earthier vetiver-vanilla base, are enchanting. While testing, I wrote "powdery berry bubblegum, dissolving into woody vanilla". I find this description hilarious because (even if it is not the most accurate one,) it is the complete opposite of a perfume I thought I would enjoy. Oh well. Filippo is a master magician. Update: Strong magic. Wore it out and never stopped smelling it on myself, even after a day. A little goes a very long way with this. I feel like it developed a different character depending on the weather - woodier during the colder months and more floral now in spring. Filippo, please take my money.

When i smelled it at first at niche shop, i was very surprised. I said to myself this is the best perfume i ever smelled. I cant stop sniff testing stripe couple days after visit of niche shop. At that time the smell was more about dark powdery round vanilla levander. When i bought the sample from filippo page i found the perfume little bit harsh. There is one floral ingredient which i find too sharp. Now im again confused and thinking all the time how i smelled it first time, there was not the sharp floral smell. I need the first smell...how can be same perfume from different shop so different? ( i have theory that maybe perfume in niche shop was more settled down, i own opus 1144 and it settled down overtime, smells little bit different how im moving thru my bottle )

This is the most unique fragrance I own and probably what opened my mind to this wild world of niche fragrance. I walked into a fragrance shop in Dublin and told them that I wanted to try something that would be harder for me to find in the States. I think this was the first fragrance he handed to me. I personally loved it at first smell, and I am too new to this world to describe the notes, but I definitely get the dark vibe that people are talking about. But something about my chemistry softens it because I get a compliment every time I am wearing this and someone hugs me. And I let a friend borrow a sweater and she texted me later to say it smelled like my ‘lovely perfume.’ This will always hold a special place in my fragrance shelf.

This is definitely a divisive fragrance. Even for me, depending on the day, I can love it or not be in the mood for it at all. It's got an earthiness than can come across as almost musty at times. Possibly the combination of lavender and patchouli. I find it a very unique fragrance. When I'm in the mood for it, I love it and it makes me embrace my darker weirder side. I feel like it gives me confidence to think "yeah, this is me, love me or hate me I'm happy as I am". It's unapologetic, bold and unique and makes me feel the same when I wear it. Lasts a good 8 hours on me and days on clothes. Sillage is moderate I'd say. 8/10

To me (a non-gurmand, non-girly-girl fragrance lover) this is spectacular. This is a touch of an Angel, really (but not the Mugler Angel). Imagine every possible olfactory idea/archetype of innocence (baby smell, doll's head, angels, etc.) epitomized in this perfume. Dolce Acqua, Chanel Jersey, nothing can compare to this angelic beauty. And the flacon is ridiculously contrary-looking. Testing on bloter equally absurd. Opening is a slap in the face of a contrast. Naturally, there is a drawback - sillage is minimal, longevity moderate to very good. Nevertheless - love,love,love you ennui-noir...

The combo of patchouli, lavender, and heliotrope is a stroke of genius. Heliotropin is one of those aroma chemicals that is intoxicating and to give it a base of almost-chocolate patchouli is such an inspired move. Every time I smell this I love it more. The heliotropin is sweet but not like sugar or food, it hits another receptor that doesn't evoke dessert. The lavender comes out a little later and grounds the sweetness with freshness and herbal notes. The vetiver base gives "cologne" in a very comforting, masculine way. All in all brilliant work.

This is so addicting to smell. For a floral scent, it works really well as a masculine scent, as much as a floral scent can. The lavender, heliotrope, myrtle and patchouli combination give it that medicinal herbal fresh spicy soapy scent, which is what I think is giving it its masculinity, a little balsamic even though its not in the notes. Mixed with the vanilla is why I think its gets addicting. And the herbal flowers combining with the vanilla and the woods give it its darker slant even though its floral and sweet. This is just awesome.

I love this perfume, and I'm not sure why it's called boredom. Because it is anything but dull! It's sweet, sour, cold and woody. It used to believe it had notes of saffron and rice, but it doesn't. It smells dusty, which gives it a bored vibe, I think. Smells like a fantastic perfume for a premiere or a very sophisticated occasion where you need to look your best. I'm not sure what's intended to be dull about it. Perhaps the aroma does not alter much throughout the dry down, providing the familiar comfort of ENNUI NOIR.

Warm Vanilla with a dark, melancholic, kind of Gothic feel from earthy Patchouli and herbal spice. Almost smells like Vanilla Rice Krispie Treats and licorice in the open. Very wearable on cool nights, dressed at least business casual I'd say. Good for maybe 28+. Bold in the open then quickly calms to a solidly moderate scent bubble. Contemplative, meditative, a welcoming darkness. Smooth patchouli and vetiver that could easily overwhelm, instead hover like backlit milky incense smoke streaming upward in hypnotic tendrils. Moody shadow-side vanilla that presents at first spray, lingering until whenever this will fade away, which it has not at nearly 10 hours of wear. You could wear this in a boardroom like you could wear it in a sanctum like you could wear it in dream about being in either.

Quite richer and deeper than the tester I had. I love this. 100/10. I will be gatekeeping this from my friends as well as Filippo Sorcinelli. Filippo Sorcinelli’s Perfumery has made me resolved to sell off and abandon my cheap/designer frags for niche perfumery totally no more dabbling.

I love this stuff. Incredibly well done. The heliotrope note immediately reminds me of Jil Sander's Background, and comically so, of the bottles of Canoe and Hai Karate my dad once wore, many many years ago. Ennui-Noir showcases the best use of heliotrope I've experienced thus far.

So now I'm loving this juice. Extrait de parfum so it lasts long too. I love the sweet fruity musk smell that leans more masculine and grows even more masculine over time I think I'm ready for a full bottle as each wearing has been a pleasure...

I want to love this.. But I only like it right now. There is a sweet note that I'm not sure of yet. It's so different than anything out there but yet it reminds me of something.. Longevity and project seem beast mode though

Just delicious, elite, no other words for it. Peppery, velvety sexiness. Definitely for the beautiful people. Absolutely mops the floor with other perfumes that are twice as expensive. Top five all time for me.

Aromatic-sweet, with menthol nuance. Sometimes I get little patchouli. Longevity strong, sillage moderate. Unisex for sure. Better to wear in colder seasons. Niche smell with unique code. 8/10 !

i don't know what's going on with my nose but this a more aromatic seminalis from orto parisi, i love seminalis so i love this too, maybe this is a bit easier to wear and like

Patchouli heaven here, so earthly and bold, feels like I was stepping to a cave, gives me chills by the cold earthy scent. It’s simply just amazing.

Even though it's not listed in the notes I smell liquorice in this fragrance specially in the dry down.

I couldn't agree more with a few other comments below. This is not a complex scent so that makes it easy to give an idea of how it smells by giving some easy hints: restrained patchouli, bordering on mainstream smell with some high-end feel due to good ingredients. There are a thousand patchoulis out there, mixed with hundreds of things, some are aggressive, some raw, animalic, gourmand, exotic, hippie style, chic and so on whereas here everything seems to be done at a controlled, way. Moderately strong green patch, moderately sweet, a bit of vanilla, a bit of plastic (also found in Opus 1144), a bit of vetiver... The result is a safe choice which smells good, with quality ingredients but it feels 100 times done before so rather commonplace. I love this brand but feel sometimes they confuse simple or minimalist with bland. I had the same feeling with Rosa Nigra. Anyway, give it a try if you have been looking for a safe patchouli for work/nights out and are keen on spending big sums on perfume. I don't think people will notice the difference with many designer frags and worse, they are likely to come up and try to guess: Are you wearing "x"? It could be fun! I expect some uniqueness (my tastes, my limits...) be it at 10 or 200 dollars and I didn't find it here. I have to be honest too and admit people compliment me when I wear this (and always come up and try to guess... ^^).

This is an exquisite aromatic vanilla scent. With my eyes closed I named four notes: vanilla, lavender, cedar and patchouli, and as I did it my husband confirmed them. It was like a game and we had fun. There was also a powdery softness and a green freshness that I picked up, and I think that's thanks to the heliotrope and myrtle. It's not a puzzling scent and it's very lovely. Here I'm getting an almost lactonic creamy softness. Even though every scent from this guy gives off a gothic impression because of the bottles, design and atmosphere/place references, this isn't gothic at all. No offense to those who wrote that, but this is the cutest scent I've smelled from this house so far. I wish I could go with a gothic-talc label but no... But there's something erotic in the scent, it has an unusual warmth too. Like something that stands airy, soft and cute while secretly building fantasies inside. dry, hard like creosote, and like volcanic rock, Ennui Noir smells black, looming and edgy, but feels like something that was once alive, pulsating, and molten. It’s the great Gothic weirdo of my collection, squatting there, overseeing all like a monolithic idol-head, and I hate it so much, I love it, in the way that, as a kid in the early 70s, I loved how gasoline smelled. There’s little-to-no sweetness on my skin, but there’s something so intriguing here...spicy asphalt, dried lavender and crushed patchouli, then there’s the well worn leather pants that Sid Vicious marinated in amphetamine and ‘lude-based, punk rock sweat. I don’t find Ennui Noir to be “commercial” at all, but unique, and I’m so pleased it’s a part of my collection—it’s a great balancer, like a palette-cleanser it gives my senses a break from some of my busier fragrances.

This guy impresses me not only for his creativity, but also for his ability to reshape (and make me love) chords that have become clichés, and pushed to the very depths of their worst qualities. In this case, a patchouli-lavender-myrtle accord, I usually run away from. But here, the composition becomes impossible to feel other than as a whole, and it becomes a symphony as beautiful as it is magical. It's hard to describe, but: it's round and fat (but not too much), it's sweet and floral (but not too much), it's alive like a plucked flower with the root still on, it's looong, persistent, it lasts... but at the same time so sweet. Sometimes I'd like to say the opposite (on principle), but once again, I have to say that it's very, very beautiful.

Luxurious, patchouli, grown woman-esque scent. Reminds me of something my mom wore in the early 00s. I wore ennui-noir on a cool, but sunny day with my vintage leather jacket. Honestly, the mix of this perfume, along with leather under the sun was stunning. The drydown, 8-9 hours after spraying, however, was my favourite part, the patchouli had already left and the remains were perfection, powdery, sweet, clean somehow.. Second FS I'm trying out, 5.9/10 to me, mainly because of the patchouli, my arch enemy I rarely tolerate haha. Also, feels a bit too grown up for me.

A nice unisex fragrance although it leans a touch more to the masculine as very little sweetness. I thought it would be sweeter with heliotrope listed but I cant even detect it. The patch, lavender and non sweet vanilla are very evident on the opening. The list of notes could give the impression that this quite a heavy or even cloying fragrance but it is neither. There is a cool and lightly earthy quality. It's a sort lightweight version of Oriza L Legrands Horizon. For a parfum extrait it seems pretty weak. Weak silage and moderate longevity.

After smelling sample, I was curious if I find the LDDM reference on this page. Yes, the resemblance particularly in mid stages is quite strong. As it dries down, the two scents go apart. Noir is up close more fruity and vanillic, where LDDM is spicy and dry. I would consider it a great alternative if you fancy LDDM. This may even be more wearable to some noses because of the vanilla roundness. Projection and longevity are very solid, it is definitely a niche quality stuff.

Sweet patchouli incense. Wow.. from the first sniff i just admired it! I am just looking into my old samples and wanted to try this again! i had this since May 2017 but didn't bother to check it out till now! this is just a calming vanilla heliotrope with doses of soft patchouli, tonka beans, & tiny chunks of lavender. When it cools down it goes more calmer and softly sweeter. This one is incredible comparing it to his others in line. Excellent blend.

Hated it at first but it grew on me. People around me love this scent... So probably that's why it grew on me? I don't know. I just find this fragrance to be flat and too masculine for my taste Scent development is pretty much none What you get in the drydown is what you get from the initial spray but hey it works 🤷 compliment getter. Projection: low-medium Longevity: 9hrs on my skin 7/10 for me. Not a bad scent but nothing interesting.

Not a really a fan of this house they all smell a little bit out of my taste but this one definitely impressed me by far my favorite and it’s the least challenging out of the 7-8 I smelled a nice vanilla and patchouli with dark aspect that makes it stand out would wear this if I was dressing up or going out at night honestly it’s good I do think some fragrance do it a bit better but this is still good and worth a try 4/5

Ennui Noir is a warm muted vanilla with heliotrope and patchouli that gives off a dark quiet feeling. I also get a clear liquorice note, even though it’s not listed. Nothing about this scent is loud. It’s described as black boredom, but to me it captures a silent, pitch black night after a day that was too bright and too noisy. Like something that used to be alive, but isn’t anymore.

I like this, I dont personally see this as a complex fragrance but rather just a smooth high quality vanilla with a dark floral kind of vibe. I really really dont want to say this but it ever so slightly slightly slightly reminds me of custard but like only a little. its good i enjoy but dont love

This perfume is very interesting. First I did not understand it, rather dislike it. A few days later I want to smell it again, and it was nice, a bit dark, thogh-provoking scen. Like it, but I can't able to wear it. Too melancolic for me.

One of the most heliotrope-forward scents I have tried. You can really pick it out because there are no other notes that would lend the powder accord very much present in this fragrance. Before looking at the notes, I felt like I smelled tonka bean (which I like, but is noticeably flatter than true vanilla notes) and something green-herbal and woody. I still don't believe that it's vanilla instead of tonka. I think the herbal note is the myrtle, which, along with the lavender, has a weird interaction with the vetiver to me. Someone else said that there is a licorice accord and I think they are right in the way I imagine an old-fashioned licorice made traditionally with natural ingredients might smell like. Here Sorcinelli takes a perfectly sensible vanilla/vetiver base and makes it... weird. It gets points for being original, but I'm not sure I like the overall scent. There's something very unsettlingly flat about it, like it doesn't have a true, round, open base note. Like it's all a mélange of middle notes. Like suffocating in dust while simultaneously getting smacked in the face by the vacuum of space. Maybe that unease is the point of "black ennui." At the end of the day, it just feels dimensionless and kind of unfinished. While not always the most wearable, Sorcinelli does strive to create art in the form of perfume that makes you think. Just like any piece of art, the thoughts the artist is inviting in are not always positive. 5.5/10.

A finely crafted composition whose execution proves more convincing than its originality.

Creamy, sweet vanilla, & heavy patchouli. Woodied up with cedar that also weighs down ennui-noir. The scent is lightly spicy due to the patchouli overdose. The heliotrope adds a floral, airy, & dark nuance. Green, creamy, herbal, grassy, slightly sweet, lightly floral. Patchouli is the quintessential "gothic" note. Almost any patchouli-laden perfume can be described as gothic, as long as it is not freshened up too much. Ennui-noir's scent is not as unique as the bottle might suggest. Although the bottle does reflect how dark/gothic the smell can be perceived. Depending on how you look at it, it can be a creepy BDSM scent, or a countryside wooden cabin scent. Mature, cool weather, unisex wear. "OK".

I read the fragrance notes and I was expecting wholesome floral moments, but instead I straight up experienced the grim aura of a primordial dark witch. When I wore it, I felt like I was being cursed. Smells like a metaphorical portrayal of depression. Very potent, very sweet and it has a huge projection. The florals are there, but my nose weirdly picks up ink accord and the scent of vanilla flavoring. My friend also tried it, and she said it felt like she’s being absorbed by an ominous miasma. This is not for everyone.

one more review on this perfume. it never evolves it is true. I find it monotonous and not dark as Filippo wants to represent it. it is a vanilla soiled by patchouly with a little heliotrope but nothing special. if I have to smell of vanilla I will be banal but I go to a lower commercial range. also because for the performances that this perfume gives the price is too high. Sorcinelli continues to be my favorite perfumer. but on this we can pass. 5/10
