Synthetic Water, Hidden Depths 🧪⛓️ As a noteninja, I appreciate a fragrance that disrupts the status quo. Oceano Viola is exactly that—a scent that continues to surprise me every time I deploy it. The opening is an absolute shock to the system. The Cascalone here doesn't just mimic the sea; it takes on a sharp, metallic, aviation fuel vibe that feels incredibly mineral and industrial. It creates a fascinating, surreal picture of a violet ocean. True to Sorcinelli’s avant-garde style, it's beautifully bizarre. It balances wet, aquatic notes with heavy woods and a soft, melancholic moss. Think of it as Mercedes-Benz Club’s oily, fuel-like cousin, but far more humid, forested, and high-tier. Sillage & Longevity: Outstanding. It leaves a massive scent trail that refuses to fade, lasting well over 24 hours. Verdict: This is a dangerous blind buy. It’s bold, polarizing, and meant only for those who want their presence known the second they walk into a room. A true masterpiece for the dark and daring.

It looks as crazy as it looks promising. Scents like these are always a love-hate relationship—the main thing is they don't turn out to be a simple scam!

Edit (10/10/25) The more time goes by, the more the cascalone dominates over every other component. The result is an overly chemical, jarring scent that, together with the iris, borders on nauseating. Review (09/25) Given the remarkable inspiration behind this fragrance, and what it symbolizes, I will confine myself to purely technical impressions in the form of detached notes — the poetry has already been expressed by Sorcinelli. The perfume presents itself as layered and almost “three-dimensional.” Iris and violet move in unison, trading places with elegance at different moments. A saline and iodic undercurrent runs consistently through the entire evolution. Beneath (outside the olfactory pyramid) lies a base of jetsam woods and sandy nuances, giving structure and grounding. From time to time, an ink-like facet emerges, with echoes that recall territories close to Squid. The overall temperature is cold, only slightly warmed by the velvety softness of violet. A metallic streak, intertwined with marine and sandy accords, decisively cuts through the creaminess and powderiness of iris, as well as the cosmetic aspect of violet. Cascalone, softer than its sharper sibling Calone, is perceptible at this dosage yet unlikely to overwhelm most noses. Instead, it moistens the composition with a discreet, watery-fruity tone. On a synesthetic level, the fragrance conjures the following images and concepts: twilight / neuston / mother-of-pearl / ultraviolet / Physalia physalis / abstract ocean / cosmogony. I find the fragrance distinctive and finely attuned to its inspiration and intended message. Were it not for The Mariner’s Rhyme by Francesca Bianchi — which predates it and shares much of its DNA — I would welcome it with far greater enthusiasm.

This should come with the warning “Try before you buy”. Even better: “Try ON SKIN before you buy”. On paper it really was purple, for some odd reason: the violet shone through the oceanic (definitely not just aquatic) note. The elemi was the sea floor, everything was at peace. On skin? Seaweed - the stinky kind - in an ocean during a tempest. A single spray from a sample and I had to wash my arm three times. And yet I could still smell the seaweed. I bought the Sorcinelli discovery set and some other sample of the newest releases - it’s been a major disappointment.

This is my last sample. I purchased 7 fragrances today from this maker. So in 1995, Pope John Paul The Second, visited the Phillippine Islands. There was such a big ruckus! Being the only predominantly catholic country in South East Asia and the entire country fanaticly catholic. This is what it would have smelled like. Someone holy from the vatican smelling like the islands. Not the good kind, but like fresh oysters and rotting seaweed. Its hot and its dry. But there he is in his full costume waving and saying god loves you.
