Rosa Nigra

Rosa Nigra, despite its name, is defintely the bright side of Unum. It's a transparent fruity woody concoction that's able to feel aloof and affable at the same time and it's pervaded by a sort of detached sophistication that reaches martial levels. Almost snob and yet, somehow, nice and gracious at that. Rose is more of a suggestion than an actual note but said suggestion is present throughout the fragrance's evolution and it's probably achieved via how they rendered the fruity notes. From the crystal clear and perfectly executed peach-driven opening to the warmer and slightly powdery sandalwood drydown. The peach and the florals perfectly melts together and give birth to a classic accord that, in this context, brings to mind of an hypothetical love-child between Lyric Man and...Samsara? A fragrance for a mature youth which is light-hearted but never superficial, happy but with a darker and more meditative side as well. Just like Opus 1114, Rosa Nigra has a classicism inherent to it that immediately brings to mind of traditional french perfumery but there's also a certain minimalism that speaks about the orient. It's a tight composition that leaves nothing to the case. Calculated and calm, remarkably present but never intrusive. It's a reassuring familiar voice, it's like listening to your own breath, it's the outdoors on a chilly and sunny morning while you breathe at full lungs capacity. Very good. Rating: 7.5-8/10

This is rose incense softened as if you placed a few roses next to a box of incense, rather than rose incense sticks. Everything is perfectly balanced—a delicate rose as a whole, and peach and wood and anise and greenery if examined in disparate parts. I love this in particular because I smell the cool, shadowy, smoky grey stone that reminds me of the corners of the ancient castles and churches of Scotland in summer. Don't expect this to leap out at you. This is a subtle beauty that asks for a couple days of your focus.

Beautiful high quality strong but not slap in the face, slightly sweet syrupy bright rose with a leather hint. Very unisex great for men. Interesting as No rose listed in notes.

Beautiful bitter fruit liqueur. Strong and distinct, sits very close to the skin.

After centuries of exposure, only the Virgin Mary is dark...” —from the History of Yesterday website damn, Unum did it again. the rose which is not a rose. anise, peach, and freesia: Rosa Nigra starts off by trying to drown me in my memories of vintage YSL Paris, reminding me of my Grandmother in the mid-to-late 90s. it really is amazing how much this blend of notes actually does smell like a very particular kind of sweet, green, overwhelming rose. fascinating. this syrupy pink-floral liqueur is quickly joined by a clean pet-shop smell, fresh hay and wood shavings. every time i wear her, i think “none of this goes together; she’s fighting with herself.” but as time goes on, the disparate parts gradually integrate themselves, becoming less sweet and turning slightly powdery instead, helped along by the sandalwood and vanilla. the bitter crown of wormwood is the MC of the whole show, though, keeping the heavy, funereal “rose” from getting too cloying. and the creamy musk and cashmere emerge at last to create the ultimate pillow scent. bottom line: Rosa Nigra is not in my fragrance wheelhouse, and she hovers on the edge of being too sweet for me for a long time, but the payoff is grand. i approve of her. as i am ever and always besotted with the Blessed Virgin, i loved the idea of this before i even smelled it. the name, combined with Sorcinelli’s Marian concept, made me think instantly of Black Madonnas. but there is often something dusty, dour, and early-Medieval about them, and i wasn’t sure they’d work as a visual — but then i saw a photo of La Vierge Noire de Toulouse dressed in a pastel-flowered gown and it just clicked. musical accompaniment : “There Is No Rose of Swych Vertu” by Mediaeval Baebes “...for in this rose contained was heaven and earth in little space...” illustration : Black Madonna, Notre-Dame de la Daurade in Toulouse, France /current extrait

Tired it today and there's nothing dark here It reminds me Lalique rose royal minus fruity tartness of apricot It's mostly about a peachy rose which developes to a slightly powdery Musky rose grounded by subtle woody notes It's my first test and for now I can't add much,just that on my skin it's not but not dark or heavy رز میوه ای که در ادامه تقریبا پودری،مشکی میشه.چوبها حضور ملایم و سافتی دارن.من ک هیچ چیز تاریکی تو این عطر ندیدم شبیه لالیک رز رویال هست منتها ملسی زردآلو رو نداره

Really nice resiny woody rose, a rose fragrance thats darker, for nightwear especially. Like an old room or medieval room that has a lot of roses decorating it. Definitely a rose fragrance that be rocked by a man but definitely still more of a female fragrance.

Rosa Nigra is very much worth sampling because it's a great accomplishment to create a rose scent like this without actually using rose. The peach especially is used very cleverly here. For that same reason, I wouldn't buy a full bottle though - there are other rose perfumes I enjoy much more. This scent is more exciting to my brain than to my heart. As for the smell: this is a green, fresh, fruity rose, one that has only just started to open. Evokes the image of smelling the first roses in on a spring morning, when the air's still crisp.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet ... The rose accord is very sweet indeed, consisting as it does of elements of anise, peach and freesia. This fragrance reminds me of the rose-perfumed incense of the Orthodox tradition. To my taste, unfortunately, Rosa Nigra is too sweet for serious consideration outside of the sampling zone.

ادكلني گلي – ميوه اي – چوبي و بيشتر زنانه با تعجب و برخلاف انتظارم ، بسيار زنانه تر از آن چيزي بود كه تصور ميكردم . تركيبي چوبي - ميوه اي شفاف كه در همان بار اول شما رو از خريدش منصرف يا عاشق خودش ميكند . در دقايق اول ، كاملا بوي رز برجسته و مشخص است و اين رايحه در سرتاسر عمر عطر ، كاملا حس مي شود . سپس بوي قشنگ نت آبدار هلو و رايحه شاداب گلها و برگ گياهان ، با رايحه چوب صندل غني و به ظرافت بالانس شده است . طوري كه رايحه چوب صندل به همراه حس گلي – مخملي و با بيسي گرم از وانيلي – پودري هست . تا پايان رايحه پراكني عطر، رايحه ها ، تقريبا همين هستند و تغيير چنداني نميكنند. فقط كمي چوبي و مشكي تر مي شوند. رايحه ها با كيفيتي غير قابل انكار ، كاملا خالص و جذاب وعميقا فريبنده هستند . پخش و موندگاري اين ادكلن بسيار خوب است .

Una rosa dolce legnosa, avvolta da muschi e dal cuore di pesca. Il profumo si trasforma presto in skinscent vaniglioso, delicatamente fruttato, lieve. Il legno di sandalo è gentile accompagnamento, non prevarica. Segue un tiepido talco. La nota emergente è il frutto, la pesca, persistente e soave, ferma e armonica. Mi evoca un acquarello dalle tinte pastello che raffigura un'ikebana. Gradevole ma privo di passione. Mi ricorda molto Peau de Peche Keiko Mecheri, la sua infinita leggerezza.

Fresh, bright green floral with freesia, peach & artemisia. Brilliant creation & there's no rose note in it. Very unisex. The best words, that mirror the fragrance, are what Sorcinelli wrote in the concept note - ' The Virgin Mary who ascends to heaven “in body and soul” : all the materials that compose her call to mind a rose that in reality is not present.' At first, I didn't like it because it smelled like rose water to my nose. I love rose water but I don't like my perfume to smell that way. Then, I reviewed the notes and remembered that there is no rose in this fragrance! Amazing! It is a real work of art imo. I am interested in Rosa Nigra at the moment! And it is not nigra at all.

Pretty! No idea how there isn’t rose in this, it’s like he created a rose accord with other notes. Has to be the blend of peach and freesia because nothing else would even hint at powdery rose except maybe anise. This is pretty, reminds me of the 90’s jammy florals, Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Grojsman type.

Personally,it doesn't impress me much.It's like a well issue made without passion,without any glimpse of light and grace.A rose too herbaceous and too common,despite the large operation of story-telling about it.

The best Rose perfume ever made without Rose. Incredible ! Elegant and crisp, pure Rose even tho there isn't any. Absolute mind fucked, mastery in it's pure form !
