Sacristie Des Arbres

#1755 in my “Tour de Fragrance” This reminds me of an incensy Jacomo EDT I used to wear way back called “Jacomo de Jacomo in Black.” I don’t think it’s still made. What I replaced it with over a decade back is less churchy, Givenchy’s “Gentleman Only Intense” which is like this but lighter, more floral, way the hell cheaper. Then I found a discounted bottle of Boadiciea the Victorious “Complex” which is amazing. I also recently acquired Les Liquides Imaginaires “Sancti” which for me was not churchy enough so I gave it away. I definitely like this more than the Givenchy, or the Les Liquides, but not more than “Complex.". My top pick, if you wanna go all churchy, is still Boadicea “Complex” which is churchy with leather covered pews. And I think still half the price of this stuff. Followed closely by V Canto “Mea Culpa.” V Canto “Mea Culpa” is only $75. Even Serge Lutens “La Religieuse” is around $85 and I think any of those scents will vibe with your inner monk or nun. But, if price is no consideration, this is a very nice juice with good quality. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

opens with smoky resinous eucalyptus and vanilla with a smooth wood finish. the vanilla becomes noticeably more pronounced over time but the composition is never too sweet, it's tempered nicely by the cedar and pine and on the whole comes across as warm and enveloping. the eucalyptus takes a bit of a backseat on drying but is still noticeable, little hints of it on the front of each inhale. the incense similarly retreats a bit here, i might say it's a little weak on my skin but i still get enough of it to be satisfied. a slight powderiness in the base (as is typical for many of sorcinelli's scents) that mingles nicely with the rose and vetiver and, i feel, anchors the whole thing very nicely. very much reminiscent of a spa day or a relaxing soak in a hot tub with some nice, high quality aromatherapy oils as others have observed. certainly worth a try; i think this is a great, straightforward unique unisex scent.

Starting with a vivid, fresh pine tree smell—nothing chemical. I don't get any incense at the opening. Instead, it's more minty and forest-like. After about 40–70 minutes, I start to notice the vetiver blended with vanilla and amber. The incense is not the main ingredient here; this scent is more about something fresh and minty. It's a very good choice for summer if you want something fresher with touches of incense and amber. How does it smell? At the start, it's 100% mint and pine. As the mint begins to fade away, you mostly get what is listed in the base notes. However, the incense is not heavy it stays somewhere in the background

This one is incensy through and through and the accompanying notes are changing around it In the opening the incense is fresh and aromatic, almost cooling The notes of pine and mint are blending with incense beautifully As it dries the fragrance begins warming up The fresher notes slowly disappear and the warmer ones such as vanilla, musk and amber start emerging The longer you wear it, the sweeter it becomes

Beautiful vanilla and cedar, incredibly comforting. Doesn't project as heavily as Sorcinelli's other work (a plus for some, but not for me). It's addictive & soft. Might seem obvious, but the warm sauna quality is part of what makes it so sweet and relaxing. I want a lifetime supply.

Imagine walking through a dense pine forest, wearing a black cassock. The air is misty and chilly. As you reach the church and push open the doors, you're greeted by the lingering scent of extinguished incense—no longer heavy or harsh, but softened, smooth, and quiet.

Another incense masterpiece from Filippo. This time warm balsamic, slightly sweetness comes across thanks to vanilla, and vetiver does it’s bitter/raw green magic at drydown.

Blinking away tears, this scent is absolutely heartstoppingly beautiful. It makes me remember places I’ve never been to and lives I‘ve never lived.

I'd summarize it as a combination of a cold pine forest breeze with a warm resinous and slightly powdery vanilla. This house seems to have worked quite a bit on the cold-warm contrast, but none of the ones I've tried let me down and they were balanced, and this is the same. The first thing I got was pine... plus again that benzoin softness, an airy vanilla, a perfectly measured incense and again cedar. Also the ambrette feel is wonderful. I'd gotten something very similar to this feel in Arthur. I hadn't been able to find an alternative to it for long-term use, a smoky vanilla I could wear in summer, and this might just be it! If you ask me, there's a whole study on calming the mind and focusing here, because my soul and brain literally relaxed too. It has a peaceful, meditative and enveloping effect... Beautiful, straightforward yet complex composition. Extremely herbal incense. It is not listed but I get a very strong eucalyptus note, but no mint or rose. The incense beautiful pulls all the ingredients together to create a smell reminiscent of the balsamic ointments used by catholic priests. On my skin the scent lasted beautifully, smelled it for almost 8 hours. Definitely not a scent that will give you a lot of compliments on the street, but will for sure cause some heads to turn around because it is just that intriguing. Not a safe buy, but I highly recommend giving it a try.

Sacristie des Arbes opens to the very familiar. I’ve smelled this Sorcinelli composition before; the exact same pine resin, the exact same frankincense, and the exact same jammy pink rose. However, there is a pleasant addition of what seems like a sweet mint note, a very minimal presence, that has the effect of turning the lights on in des Arbes. Most of Sorcinelli’s perfumes play around in the gray darkness of stone cathedrals, the only light and shadow coming from flickering candles and the smells of their warm waxes. Des Arbes is surprisingly sunlit, thanks to the fruity rose and the mint. The lights do not stay up for long though as guaiac muscles its way in, everything but the rose departs, and the rose is cloaked in the dim light of the guaiac’s black-smoke aromatics. This doesn’t really work. These two materials mix like oil and water - they don’t want to touch or be near each other. This section of the perfume feels disjointed, and perhaps Sorcinelli thought so as well because he’s trying to force a brighter woody vetiver up from the base and a sweetened vanillic benzoin to fill in the gaps, but it just ain’t shakin’ out. It smells like I’ve layered two very different perfumes. Fortunately, this is a Sorcinelli composition, so you don’t have to endure the incongruity for long and the fall to the skin scent happens with the speed of a boulder falling off a cliff - and down to a warm cedar, vetiver, and benzoin amber base we go. For the first few minutes I thought des Arbes was going to do something for me. The new-ish combination of Sorcinelli’s most frequently used materials was interesting and striking, but unfortunately the rest of the perfume - that vast majority of it, a small handful of hours - was a bifurcated mess and then boringly derivative without much quality behind it. Not bad, but not good, just “eh”.

I get strong amber, vanilla and mint. There is something cold, sharp, medicinal it (like an inhaler) and a little bit of lavender. There is something green, freshly spicy in it that I like and cannot pinpoint. Could be the vetiver, which I am a huge fan of. I get some frankincense, some church smell too. After a while the rose emerges and the minty rose gives a strangely dissonant feel. I can imagine this works well on a cold autumn day (the rainy, cold autumn with hardly any leaves on the trees anymore). When I sprayed it on myself I got instantly repulsed by it and wanted to get it off. On paper it has a much more harmonic and enjoyable effect. Like with ennui noir, I can imagine my surroundings smelling like this and liking it but not myself.

Neither like a church nor a forest, this supposed sacristy of the trees is fully its own unique creation. The opening minutes of this are a wonderful overwhelming of the senses. Lit frankincense incense, fresh pine and cedar, ambery-rich vanilla and benzoin, even ambrette. Al the notes pour out at once like ...a wild, aery spirit, a whirling djinn of the desert. Except for that listed rose note, that is rather vanishingly subtle. I see. I summoned an airy desert djinn because this reminds me much of one of those three L'Air du Desert Marocain perfumes by Tauer, ...though I didn't consciously make that connection until after I wrote the simile. So yes, perhaps, more than a shrine or grove, the best metaphor for this amazement is something like a fantastic, desertic dust-devil of myth and imagination, with its dust composed of the rarest resins, spices, and smoke.

This smells exactly like the Fire in the Hole ride at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO....a memory from 2004 I didn’t know could still be unlocked...but like in a good way? It’s kind of old woody damp basementy but warm and nice??
