Bought the aftershave of this. Not sure what all the hate is about but this stuff is the bomb. Out of all my aftershaves my wife said she loves this scent the best and trust me it is hard to please her. This smells like a man should nothing offensive, smells like a clean barbershop sophisticated scent. very elegant and luxurious. Would I get this again? absolutely. Wow! I'm shocked at the reviews here. I own the original YSL RG and I like this one better. The original on my skin gets this strong sickening sweet smell midway to the dry down. This has a nice strong scent but not overpowering or nauseating. This company makes this in AS and for those who like a lighter scent that lasts at least half the day, that's also a good route. I love this stuff and am selling my nearly unused original RG in the aluminum bottle.

This is a very creamy anise forward fragrance that smells of a classic anise heavy shaving cream with very good longevity. It gives me old school fresh vibes all day. You will do better spraying your chest as opposed to your neck as the scent is strong (which is a plus in my book). Very masculine, rugged, refined. A+ for me. Especially given the price.

I had -- key word -- a bottle of this at one point, and I must say.... if it was not so ludicrously overpowered, it would have been a good fragrance. The atomizer on this has a decidedly large output, and the fragrance itself has a monstrous amount of projection. With two spritzes of this on my wrists, everybody in the room I was in (about a 10x15 living room) could smell this fragrance in a matter of mere seconds, and I could very easily taste it. It punches way above it's weight in terms of projection. I wound up giving this to a coworker of mine, and the only way he can use it is to spray a bit into the air and walk through it.... and then he's good for several hours. The fragrance itself is not bad by any means, as it definitely has that barbershop shave cream feel to it, but the other scent notes in the fragrance (fire?) give it this odd spicy note. I guess you could say the key scent notes in this are vanilla, shaving cream, and cinnamon spice. Not bad, but definitely not the "fresh clean shave" styled fragrance I thought this was going to be. More of a date night fragrance.

I blind-bought a bottle and find the similarity with Rive Gauche to be minimal. It's not BAD...it smells good and barbershoppy enough on paper, but it's so weak on my skin. I'm going to give this a little time to see if it improves with maceration, but right now I'd have to say this is just OK. Honestly, I've smelled much better fragrances for $30. For $30 you can get a tester of the current Guerlain Vetiver, and it won't be great -- but it'll be very good for $30.

I expected this to smell much closer to Rive Gauche than it does. This is obviously much lower quality, and much more anise/licorice forward. I’d say only around 50% there. The Dua one is pretty close, but has this weird sour pickle thing going on. YSL just needs to rerelease it at this point.

Recently saw a YouTube review for this, as a wet shaver I am familiar with the brand, and I immediately gave this a try. This is my first “Fine” purchase and it falls in the same category as “Colonel Conk” which means I am unimpressed. I jumped on this as the reviewer is new to me, and he made the VERY clear comparison to Rive Gauche. In the air I get it, on skin it lacks, and overall it disappoints. This was a foolish move on my part, I just saw that a site I use had this item, the price was quite low, so I figured it would surely be worth the purchase based off the enthusiastic review...NOPE...the people here are telling the truth, read what they have written and make an educated decision before buying. Very soft, linear and missing it’s mark. DUA fragrance has a much better take, and it performs extremely well, you get what you pay for.

The note breakdown is baffling, considering what it actually smells like. I have a soft spot for "barbershop" fougeres & am willing to try just about any of them, I figure it's not that complex of a scent to accomplish. Color me mistaken on this one, no offense. At 1st whiff it's an assault, dominated by what my nose classifies as black licorice, and sometime down rhe road I eventually softens out to something that isn't totally offensive. Now, I've never personally smelled it & dont need to, there is no way on this Earth that a house like YSL would put out something this chaotic, so I'm not buying into the Rive Gauche comparisons. At all.

I just want to add, I too am not a fan of DUA, but I do give credit where it is due. As many seek an alternative to Rive Gauche, and the real deal is very expensive now, DUA has a version that will scratch that itch for a reasonable price. I am an avid wet shaver with many aftershave classics, and a very large fragrance collection as well. Ultimately this FINE product is ok, nothing special, if you were seeking a Rive Gauche clone this is not it. If you want a middle if the road barbershop scent than this is “fine”.

I don't know what you guys are smelling, but I get mostly a blast of pepper. And definitely no Rive Gauche.

TRASH. Worthless brand, smells very cheap to me, overpriced for what it is (so are their shaving soaps) I would buy it at around $10-15 for 50ml, its nothing like RG. Ship all these bottles to outer space we don't need them here. You can get a better frag for $20 that actually lasts.

I have both EDT and the aftershave of this. The aftershave is absolutely amazing and worth a good review. This EDT, it's just horrible. The worst thing I've smelled sold as a cologne. All it is is watery pepper, and very offputting. Thankfully, it's easy to wash off.

Just got the IC (Italian Citrus) version of this fragrance. OMG, there is a horrid nitrogen smell in it, that reminds me of 80s hair coloring chemicals. No way a company puts out a fragrance that smells this bad, maybe they should look into this asap.

This smells like a very poor second cousin of YSL RG for about 20 seconds at the opening then promptly dries down to a bargain basement messy background smell you might experience upon entering a pharmacists/ chemists. Unweareble, very cheap. Avoid.

This is supposed to be inspired by YSL's Rive Gauche, essentially a clone. How does it hold up in that category? For the first two-thirds of American Blend, it's not like Rive Gauche. Rive Gauche has a more refined Brut-like opening, then the middle turns into this shaving cream sweetness. There's no Brut in the opening of American Blend. And the middle doesn't have that same rich, shaving cream sweetness. It's more like a flat, faint, shaving cream smell underneath this synthetic vague citrus smell for brightness. There's something even a bit a mild leather note that appears midway? But for the first 1/3 or half of the scent's life, I'd say it's this, maybe green-like scent? It smells like some generic men's grooming product, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I like it. And it's better than those cheap $10 athletic-brand fragrances. It's not crude, scratchy or gross like some designer-brand that can be found at discounters either. However, American Blend, for the first four hours does not smell like a YSL/Gucci/Dior/Chanel-quality scent. After about the 4hr mark, it starts to smell very distantly similar to Rive Gauche at the base. But it's still not a good copy, just vaguely similar. The base of Rive Gauche smells like an expensive classic men's fragrance, comparable to Azzaro Pour Homme base without the muskiness, subtle with depth. American Blend however, is not going to remind you of vintage Azzaro Pour Homme because it does not have that richness or depth at the base. It's not a clone in the way that Classic Match is to Drakkar Noir. AB's base is like a cool, comforting, not-too-sweet, shaving foam-like scent. It's pleasant to my nose, and I like it. CONCLUSION: American Bland is a very "flat" scent at the top and heart. You have to wait a few hours to get to that nice "cool" shaving cream-type smell. It's a nice scent though, and I like it. If there was just some more depth in the first few hours I would give it a higher score. Here's one thing that I really like about it though: It smells down-to-business. No frills, no sweetness, no powder-puff softness, no muskiness, not challenging pew-ew notes. Just a clean scent, and it dries down to a very nice, cold, shaving cream like scent. I personally prefer it to Rive Gauche. 8/10

Custard and fire as top notes? Lol, I didn't quite get that. Nevertheless, this is a fine $30 multi-purpose/no-purpose/versatile "dumb reach". Smells fine, although 30 minutes into the dry down on paper it is starting to smell annoyingly synthetically sweet, so it does dry down to a typical cheap sweet mess of notes but for a $30 dumb reach that is to be expected. Does not smell like YSL Rive Gauche, At the Barbers, Azzaro Pour Homme, et al. As a matter of fact it is NOT even a fougere. It's not even a Spicy Oriental a la classic Old Spice, nor that similar to a Bay Rum or Pinaud Clubman cologne or British Sterling. It's more of a fresh/ozonic/citrus/sweet cologne. It may be described as a "barbershop" fragrance even though maybe 90% of those frags are more classical fougeres (lavender, green notes, oakmoss). Perfect for my Dumb Reach shelf at the bottom of my stairs, along with classic Old Spice, Paul Sebastian Fine Cologne (a very strong Old Spice near-clone), British Sterling, and various Pinaud Clubman scents (Bay Rum etc).

First, I think people are nuts for saying Brut reminds them of Rive Gauche. So, there you can see how our noses can smell things differently. Azzaro is a signature scent for me, and it is structured similarly, but really is not more than a cousin of RG either. This is not bad. Spray this on one side of your chest, some third man Caron on the other side for the spicy sweetness and it gets you in the ballpark of Rive Gauche. It is not a bad product. It is around Rive Gauche, not a clone. It does astound me that no company has properly cloned Rive Gauche because demand is there. I do not consider Dua a proper mass market company. This is a nicely priced barbershop scent. Considering the present costs of RG and the lack of a proper substitute, this is a decent budget stand in if you insist on something similar.

Absolute pepper bomb ,bears zero resemblance to rive gauche and as far as I can tell bears zero resemblance to anything but ground black pepper and rubber It’s not even nice pepper it’s basically ground pepper you would put on an egg😂 ,it is disgusting Absolute waste of £30 seriously if you’re in the uk pay me postage and you can have it for free give me a message 99.9ml left ..you may just like it lots of people seem to 👍

I reviewed a vintage YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme along with 4 other vintage formulation fragrances in the link below. American Blend is very similar. I noticed this has a more citrusy vibe though better for the warmer weather. Performance is decent for the price you're paying. youtu.be/mGhj8zM3Lp8
