Before The Rainbow

It's like a late spring day after a rain shower in the forest where the sun is coming through the trees and making the mossy and grassy forest floor covered in the remnants of the rain sparkle. You've spent time outside in the sunshine, you have this perfect sweat glow, from the warm sun beating down on you, but the rainshower has helped cool you off. You lay in the damp lush grass to look up at the sky and see a stunning rainbow, you smell the fresh earth near your face, you feel the warmth radiate off your skin, you lay in the grass while you close your eyes and feel like you become one with the earth and just feel pleasently relaxed and content. -------- I bought this in a sampler with other popular fine'ry fragrances. I looked at the notes before I tried each and I truly didn't expect myself to like this one. I'm a gourmand girlie, I usually avoid anything to fresh, marine or sharp citrus smelling. It's always too pointed for my nose. I honestly didnt expect myself to like this one, but I am pleasantly surprised. Though the top notes are mossy and earthy, I definitely smell that woody base come right through on first spray. Then it quickly starts to melt into the skin and instantly shift into this soft and sweet, cashmere-esque sandalwood type vibe. The citrus is minimal OR it seems to be complementing the other notes in a creamy way, but definitely not sickly sweet lemon pound cake and sugar type or way, it's very gentle. Surprisingly the salt note in this really brings it all together to create this perfect skin scent, it's not an obnoxious type of salt like breathing in salt air that smells like the ocean in a bad way, but a complementary saltiness that brings out the natural scent of your skin. I'm surprised this doesn't have some sort of creamy floral note in it cause it definitely has SOMETHING, like tuberose, or honeysuckle or something, but it's VERY subtle, which is good for people who aren't super obsessed with overly floral notes. This perfume honestly hits all the boxes for something I would want if I want a green fresh scent, it still has the DNA or a gormaund or creamy floral, but it's not that enough that it stands out from a perfume collection that is mostly gourmands. It's unique in its own way I wish the staying power of this lasted longer as it feels like I have to reapply maybe 2-3 times a day. Not necessarily a bad thing to be able to experience the top notes again thought-out the day when reapplied, but it doesn't have much projection either. It's not completely a skin scent but def not over arms length projection. People in close conversation will definitely be able to smell this, but anyone further away may have to have a passing breeze push this towards them for them to smell you. Absolutely a late spring early summer scent. Or at least good for cooler summer days or even after it rains and it's cooled off. I don't think this would do well in humid and swealtering heat, but some may be able to pull it off.

BEAUTIFUL! I love Before the Rainbow so so much. I got this in the body mist when I was first getting into fragrance and I still love it. I remember testing it in Target because I loved the color of the bottle, not expecting to like it that much, as I didn't yet really know what kinds of scents I like. I was surprised as I kept sniffing my wrist that this smells amazing. BTR is so fresh and delicious. Bright and citrusy and salty, but also with a sweetness and earthiness. As you can tell, I'm obsessed. It's not anything groundbreaking and not everyone will love it as much as me, but I think it's a safe reach because I don't think many people could HATE this. I smelled WS&SS later on and this is definitely a dupe, but I think I like BTR more. I don't know how the lasting power compares, but I feel like people don't really mention Jo Malone eau de colognes having great longevity? I could be wrong. This one lasts an okay amount of time, especially if I spray it on my clothes. Scent bubble is minimal but there at least in the first hour or two. Since it comes in a mist I don't mind reapplying.

beautiful, show stopping. salty, fruity, fresh. first tried this when it was hot and it smelled gross, like an overwhelming fig. it's perfectly refreshing like rain when it's cold but doesn't hold up to the heat very well so it's definitely a cool weather fragrance for me. that being said it requires multiple applications and reapplications but i don't mind. edit: tried wood sage and sea salt which this is supposedly a dupe of but these are only similar in the very initial spray and after that they go in two different directions. this one is sweeter and more citrusy. wood sage and sea salt has more of a sandy campfire type vibe. another edit: i bought another bottle a few months ago and they have changed the formula to be more like wood sage and sea salt, which i don't like. but it still has that cooling aquatic quality to it so i will finish off the bottle but i'm not sure i would buy it again since it smells different now.

If you're looking for a dupe of Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt, this is it! With one nit-picky caveat. I love JM, because it is such a clean, calming scent. I literally want to wrap myself in its refreshing, soothing scent after I shower. Before the rainbow matches the notes very well, but it just barely misses the calming vibe I associate with JM. It is more energetic and a touch more citrusy than the JM. The good news is that the citrus fades more after the opening, and it this makes it better suited for wearing out. I also have Pacific Rock Moss and this one very much reminds me of it. It is not a dupe, but it has that same oakmoss citrus salty vibe. I wore PRM on a vacation to the Carribean, so that smelling it would remind of the vacation. I can honestly say that smelling this one had the same effect on my brain! If you can't justify spending for PRM, then this is an excellent budget replacement.

I typically gravitate toward fresh gourmand scents vs. fresh outdoorsy scents, but I absolutely LOVE this fragrance! It reminds me of hiking through a jungle in the rain, in the best possible way. A lot of fragrances like this end up smelling like a generic drugstore body wash or even men's deodorant to my nose, but I feel this one is truly unisex in that it's neither too sweet nor too rugged. Fine'ry found the perfect balance. I currently have the body mist and will likely buy the EDP once the mist runs low. On a different note (pun intended), I had a happy accident earlier today and discovered Before the Rainbow smells delicious paired with AG's Cloud (or Good Chemistry's Coffee Cloud for a cheaper alternative). It's such a bright and fresh pairing! If you've ever smelled Snif's Sweet Ash and found it to be too mossy/woody for your liking, try this more subtle combo instead. :)

It has been a long road for me to see whether this is or isn't the exact dupe of Jo Malone Wood sage and Sea salt (transportation, items out of stock, etc.). Having now tested out them both side by side, I will have to say this is a great dupe. In my opinion Before the Rainbow smells a little better, I cant describe it exactly, but there is an added "sweetness" or "tropical-ness" to it that lingers in the air and compliments the skin so well. I have to add that while Jo Malone last up to four hours, before the rainbow last days if sprayed on clothes and over 6 hours on skin, so the performance alone is impressive when compared. I need for all the peeps out there to stop buying it because I still haven't been able to grab the perfume version of this. Grab it if you love Jo Malone, you will not be disappointed. update 2/14 Finally was able to get the perfume bottle version LMAO!

Tested then bought this looking for an affordable JM (disclaimer: only tested once) and this feels very close. I’m a guy, and this is a very unisex fragrance that I feel can be worn by anyone. I will say that to me, the fragrance seems very linear, but I do not mind in the slightest. It is a great scent from beginning to end. Vibes of a beach on a rain forest island, after taking a dip and drying off in the mild sun in a hammock in a canopy of jungle foliage. Very *juicy*. Seawater notes on the top with woodsy and lots of green making it through. This feels like it could definitely be a signature scent. Safe for daytime or nighttime wear, safe for office. For the price, give it a go, it’s certainly much better performing than the price suggests. UPDATE: I can not stop wearing this, so so good. I want my house and my car to smell like this always.

I had to create an account on here to add my thoughts. This is a great 90% dupe to Jo Malone's Wood Sage & Sea Salt. And guess what? If you calculate it, this has better longevity for the price. Absolutely love this. Great for casual days of running errands. Stays longer on clothes, too. I'd say this one is missing the sage. Of course, the JM scent is much more well-blended and the sage grounds it to this creamy scent. This one is more linear with just the 3 notes and no changes from the first spray up to the last dregs you smell from your skin/shirt. I don't mind it. I sometimes layer it with other floral scents like Acqua Di Gioia to tone down the screechiness of the peony. I've also layered this with Fashionably London by Zara (which to me is more of a winter scent) which made it into a summer vibe.

Love this scent. It’s fresh, aquatic, a little earthy, and overall a stunner for summer. I layer this on top of 11:11 azure perfume oil and it’s beautiful and really extends the wear time. Generally as long as I’m using this on well-moisturized skin, this lasts 3-4 hours (even without a perfume oil underneath) and 6+ on clothing. I have the EDP, not the body spray — review readers should be aware that this comes in both EDP and body spray and not everyone leaving reviews has specified which version they’re using, so that might account for some discrepancies? Overall though, this is a gorgeous aquatic freshy for summer at an unbeatable price point. I’m so impressed by Finery!

So I went into Target for NOT ANOTHER CHERRY by this brand..... however , this scent STOLE THE SHOW. I am saving up to buy the perfume! The Body Mist is amazing for hot, humid climates. It is a very unisex or dare, I say, a genderless scent leaning slightly masculine. It's a clean, fresh, refreshing, very uplifting scent! I get the Sea Salt and Bergamot the most. I actually prefer this over Skylars Salt Air , different but similar. I would say this is a very " CLEAN GIRL / BOY " fragrance, the price can't be beat and if you over spray like me this Is a Safe, non offensive scent. Definitely in my top 3 scents and worth at least a sniff.

It's salty, it's earthy, it's minerally I love it. I just wish it lasted longer. After about 30 mins I can't smell it anymore. I'm not sure if I get nose blind to it or what but it doesn't last long and quickly becomes a skin scent. I have to put my nose on my arm to smell it. My husband loves it, I took a shower and sprayed about 4 sprays and came out to him and he said I smelled great. I'm a nurse and I wear it to work. It's one you can wear as its very inoffensive and doesn't last long. If I could smell like this 24/7 I would. I want a candle, lotion, shampoo---everything made out of this scent.

Bathe me in this?! I haven’t tried Wood Sage and Sea Salt so I can’t say it’s a dupe, but I can say it smells more expensive than it is. If I were to make a comparison, I'd say it feels like the cloudy day analog to the very sunny Acqua di Gioia. Both have a certain airy freshness with a bit of citrus, but this one feels a bit cozier and earthier (without leaning warm). That coziness will keep me wearing it in transition seasons. The notes on here don’t necessarily account for how feminine this feels. Not *girly* at all, but I wouldn’t necessarily call this unisex either.

This perfume is absolutely lovely if you're looking for something not sugary sweet and not masculine. I haven't smelled anything like this before. I went to Target with 2 others from the line in mind, but this one blew me away. I sprayed them all on my arm and this one lasted the longest and I couldn't stop smelling it on my wrist. It is so well balanced, I can't believe it's only 3 notes. This is more well balanced than most of the perfumes I have. Not sure it's a safe blind buy, but if you're looking for something different and out of the sugar sweet box, try it!

This really is a great dupe for Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Sea Salt. It’s all I want and can bare to wear when the temperatures are 90+ degrees with 80+ humidity levels for months on end. 🥵 But this one smells a bit sweeter, more feminine and lasts and projects for hours on skin and more on clothes. The major obvious difference to me is the sage note. In JM WSSS the sage is very bright, green and herbaceous. In Before the Rainbow the salt, oak moss and bergamot do give off an herbaceous scent but it’s not quite distinguishable as the sage in JM WSSS. Beautiful scent.

Wore this yesterday in 90plus degree heat. Was indoors and outdoors all day. I didn't expect much from this but boy was I wrong. It projected decent the first 2 hours then died down. I thought the heat had worn it off but I got whiffs of it throughout the day. I did spray both clothes and skin. On skin I could still smell it faintly when I got home that night. Mind you I've had this perfume for a few months so I thought the citris would have been weaker somehow. Definitely worth a try as my body eats perfume. I got good wear from this!

salty, musky, damp (if that makes sense), and rich. i honestly feel like i own a yacht when i smell like this. also, for it being a target “duped” fragrance, this lasts REALLY well. like, probably the longest a “cheap” fragrance has ever lasted. i wore it last night and i was able to get little wafts of it after about 5-6 hours. def dries down to a subtle, salty skin scent but i love it. it maybe doesn’t have as much depth as wood sage & sea salt, but it lasts 19999999x longer and i feel like that makes up for it.

This is Wood Sage and Salt but better. I cannot believe this Target fragrance outlasts Jo Malone by 6 hours. There is less of an ashy sandalwood in this vs. Wood Sage, and thus comes off less masculine and much more truly unisex. I paired this with Ellis Brooklyn's Bee and got SO many compliments. Another wonderful pairing is Prada Candy. I've worn all 3 together before when I was feeling extra, and it's really a breath of fresh air in each step, since they all last forever without a heavy base note.

Oh my. A better and longer lasting dupe of Jo Malone’s Wood, Sage, and Sea Salt. This is a very relaxing, clean, zen scent! I’m shocked that I got this for $20 but here it is. Still singing on my skin after 4 hrs and I couldn’t get that performance out of the more expensive one? What’s reeeeally going on here? Also there are definitely some florals here but none listed. Love the bottle and name but dang this is like 95% the same so clearly a copy. I’m stoked, and feel I’ll wear it a lot more often.

Something Ive tried the last few days is layering this with one light spray of "every storm a serenade" I have a little sample vial of that and the body spray of before the rainbow. They harmonize really nicely into a lovely coastal forest in a downpour. On its own, before the rainbow is fresh, light, and somehow soothing. It has a nice citrus open, developes into a sort of green aquatic, and eventually dries down to a soft and salty/sweet skin scent. Really great value for the price point.

im absolutely obsessed with this fragrance. as a jo malone wood sage and sea salt lover, this fragrance does a VERY good job at mimicking it, though definitely smells a bit cheaper and doesnt last as long. it has the glorious "rain on hot asphalt" scent. very mineral-like and salty. 100% worth the money, id re-buy. my only negatives (if you can even really call it a negative) is that it has very low sillage and doesnt last long, but for the price, what else can you expect?

I love this for when you just want a clean, carefree, pleasant but non-descript scent. I work in an environment where thick, syrupy, spicy, beast-mode scents aren’t welcome. This will work perfectly for me for work purposes. It smells like clean wet hair right after washing it, before drying it. Some kind of strong hair shampoo/conditioner scent. Yeah...very nice & clean. I’ll get plenty of wear out of it, but I’m not really expecting any compliments. ;-)

It comes as a shock to no one that I have purchased yet another aquatic perfume. I don’t have much to say about this one - I really love the scent. It’s bright and refreshing and salty, like sun dried ocean driftwood that’s been covered with oakmoss. Definitely like the kind of intimate freshie that I’ll reach for after getting out of the shower. Reminds me of being at the beach and listening to California by Joni Mitchell

mineraly, wet, and salty, a seaside cliff dotted with moss and lichen. clean dirt and refreshing petrichor with a little brightness from the citrus. to me this is predominantly earthy and mineraly, the marine scents are there too but the green mossiness takes a back seat. has a slightly more citrusy, soapy smell on the dry down i really like it, and for the price point it's fantastic

I really like this <3 I don't own the Jo Malone perfume, but I have MAC Turquatic and would say this is similar to that. Like Turquatic, this leans unisex to me. I get the salt note more on paper or clothing. I know the intended smell is supposed to be something like a forest after raining but I get aquatic beachy vibes. This lasted longer on my clothes than my skin.

I very much enjoy Before the Rainbow! I started with the body mist and within two days upgraded to the EDP. I’d liken eating citrus while sitting on a rock, feet dangling into a clear stream. If you could bottle summertime camping by the creek side (and throw in a touch of luxury), this is it. Also note, I’ll probably layer it with other fragrances in cooler seasons.

Love this fragrance. Not my typical “go to” as I prefer gourmands and have had “meh” experiences with salty aquatic fragrances before. This is a great mossy/watery/green fragrance, it makes me happy and really feels perfect for a rainy spring day. It does remind me of Jo Malone but for the price point this is a great other option. Also love the pretty green bottle.

Beautiful and unique; I’ve never smelled a perfume like this before. It brings up some imagery for me. I see a beach, or the rain in my old neighborhood. Being in a garden filled with herbs just as the rain stops, and everything is still completely damp. I feel that this lasts up to 4 hours depending on how much is sprayed; I do wish it lasted longer.

This has to be my favorite out of the sample set I bought. This is so perfectly unisex, beautiful aquatic with some freshness, I also love the oak moss, i love anything green. The performance is great, the best out of the whole line. I ended up using up the whole sample, first one to run out. I need to get a full size.

I’m literally obsessed with this? It’s so earthy and ethereal...Idk what they put in it but it smells heavenly. It’s what I imagine the amazon would smell like after it rains in the spring. It’s the perfect scent for a rainy day or the gym. It lasts a while on my skin and clothes too!

I like Wood Sage & Sea Salt, but I like this way better, actually! I think it smells like green tea and the original doesn't. It's fresh without being too clean if that makes sense, it reminds me of a dewy forest with a little bit of sweetness. This is my favorite from this line.

I prefer this one to the Jo Malone original. This is just prettier. It has a flirty elegance about it, with the perfect amount of sweetness. Completely inoffensive. Seems universally appealing. If you dislike this fragrance, then you are wrong 😉

Do you like Turquatic (MAC), Wood Sage & Sea Salt (Jo Malone), Wave Musk (Mancera)? This is very much in that vibe. Salty, woody, herbal. Great for warm weather. Beachy, but not sunscreen type of beachy.

Since Wood Sage & Sea Salt is a unisex fragrance , here you have the women’s version. It’s a lighter & sweeter version of WS&SS but def worth the price under $30.

Absolutely love this perfume. It smells just like The real deal from Jo Malone and it lasts for ever on me... in my jacket for three four days... love it!

Bit sweeter and greener than WS&SS, but very similar scent profile. Performs just as mediocre-ly, but at least it's affordable for the majority

How? Can somebody please explain to me HOW a cheap, $30 "dupe" at TARGET is better performing than a popular cologne, retailing at $100, from a luxury brand? Despite allegedly being designed to be an inexpensive dupe for Jo Malone's Wood Sage and Sea Salt, Fine'ry's Before the Rainbow has its own thing going for it. Yes, it has the distinct salty sea breeze accord, a hint of citrus and green/woody notes. It's a little sweeter and less fruity, and the moss gives it a softness and earthiness. It does smell a bit like a forest near the Atlantic or North Pacific coasts after the rain, damp but not exactly petrichor. The sweetness reads as a little aquatic, clean and with a hint of citrus soapiness, just a touch. I actually find it more similar to Mac Turquatic, but with a saltier, earthier edge to the aquatic freshness and sweetness. And the longevity is impressive. The sillage is pretty intimate and inoffensive, but it lasted a good four hours on my skin, six on my clothes. Certainly better than the 10-minute disappearing act Jo Malone offered. Before the Rainbow is massively underrated and versatile. It's refreshing and sweet but I'd hesitate to call it cool–I think this would make a great freshening-up fragrance for all seasons. The bottle is simple and beautiful, with that stunning deep teal color–an excellent match for this fragrance. It's got great layering potential. And at this price, it's hard to pass up.

I love the idea of a watery fragrance, but I struggle with calone. It just smells cheap and generic "blue" to me. Thankfully, there isn't any calone to be found here. This is salty, slightly dirty, and slightly green. It reminds me of visiting my friend in Massachusetts one April - we walked along a stony beach on Cape Cod on a grey day with a little rain. I wish the body mist was stronger, but it's not bad. With generous sprays on body, hair, and clothes, I get 1-2 hours of moderate projection with another 1-2 hours of occasional whiffs. I'd be interested to try the EDP. If you want to walk along the beach as a townie and not a tourist, give it a try! EDIT and EDP review: Features a prominent fig note in its opening. I find it quite synthetic in the opening and it settles to a generic dried fruit smell before disappearing completely. I prefer the body mist for that reason, but the EDP is more well-rounded as a stand-alone frag. Decent longevity and projection. Tip: I like layering the body mist with green and herbal smells

Tried this recently at Target and liked it well enough to purchase a full bottle. I’ve been sitting with it on for about 3 hours now and really loving it! More than I expected to! I’m usually more of a vanilla person so this is quite different from what I usually gravitate toward but I’m really enjoying the salty citrusy notes in it. I already was familiar with the salty note and knew I would like it from my experience with it in another fragrance the old discontinued perfume from Antonia’s Flowers called Sogni del Mare. For me this smells quite similar to that because of the salty note and I’m very much enjoying this. The other one also had a bergamot citrus note if I remember correctly. Any way this is a departure from my usual preference but I really like it and recommend it if you also enjoy the salty note.

I have the mist, not the EDP. This scent feels like being outside in a bog on a breezy day, in a nice way. It feels wet and marine (I think because of the salt) without any of the nose-stinging, powdery, migraine-inducing sharpness that I try to avoid in aquatic scents. Rather than sharp, this scent feels clean and natural. It’s linear; the smell you get it at first is the same you get after a few hours. I don’t think it smells/feels expensive, but that might be because it’s a mist. I like that it’s cruelty-free, unlike Jo Malone. This is an easy reach for days when I want to feel mature and a bit whimsical, like a woman who just came inside after a long walk in a nature preserve by the sea. When I finish my sample, I’ll consider trying the EDP.

i tested wood sage & sea salt and while i liked it, it was a bit too aromatic for my liking in the opening and i preferred the deep dry down. before the rainbow lacks that strong sage that my skin pulls too much of so i can enjoy the rest of the of the vibes of that fragrance. this is a clean, marine freshie with a touch of soft citrus sweetness that i can't get enough of. it's comforting but in a different way than a warm gourmand-- comforting while also being energizing somehow. while the weather is still a bit too cool for my liking to wear this out and about consistently, this is a perfect scent to wear fresh out of the shower at bedtime. super happy to have this scent profile in my collection at such an affordable price point.

This is a REALLY GOOD and much more affordable dupe to Jo Malone's Wood Sage and Sea Salt! The longevity and sillage is better too, but not by a lot. However, just like the person said below me, this is definitely a greener and more citrusy version of the OG and unfortunately kinda makes me think of lemon cleaners or bugspray. But I feel like 99% of people wouldn't be able to tell you were wearing a dupe of WS&SS and would just think your skin chemistry made the scent smell a little different. I am very pleasantly surprised!

This one is very reminiscent of a man's cologne. I can't quite put my finger on it but it is taking me back to the mid 2000's. This is not a bad thing. I actually like it! I like girly fragrances but I'm a sucker for earthy scents. My favorite thing to wear is straight patchouli essential oil. I definitely get the ocean on a rainy day vibe from this. I'm going to wear it a few more times to truly get my feel for it. For now, I am keeping it. Rate- 8/10

The top is pretty but I couldn't begin to tell you what it smells like. I don't get much citrus and it smells nothing like oak moss. Y smells like oak moss...this is no Y. After about an hour, I put my nose inside my shirt, took a big breath, almost choked and started coughing from the heavy, HEAVY salty/mineral smell. That's all that's left. The beginning has such promise but it turns into a mineral salt bath that tries to drown you. Too bad...

Before the Rainbow is a piney, cypress, slightly marine, cologne type perfume. It is refreshing and unisex. I enjoy wearing this in 70F weather when I get whiffs of it for up to 10 hours. It is not a screamer but a very pleasant daily perfume. Reminds me of a Mancera perfume (Wave Musk) in my collection. Good value.

Nice dupe for Wood Sage & Sea Salt, probably my favorite of the Jo Malone tester kit. The Jo Malone barely lasts 10 minutes - the Fine'ry lasts a little longer...still barely any staying power. But it's much cheaper. Has more sweetness to it than the original.

i got caught in a rainstorm and this still stayed which is quite impressive. dare i say it got even better with the rain? it's lucious and bright, almost like juicy marine(?) where it's not just salt but salt and musk but somehow smells wet in the best way
