Midnight Café

I’m a big Black Opium fan - I know that’s sometimes frowned upon, but it smells really good on my skin and I also really enjoy the small nuances of most of the flankers. So much so that I actually own 5 of them🙈 I also own the Zara dupe (Gardenia) so I feel that I can confidently say that this... this smells like the real thing! The quality of the ingredients, the way it opens up, the way the scents are balanced... this is the real deal!! I don’t know if I would even say that this smells like a flanker, but instead a true dupe of the OG. It is soooo similar to the OG scent. Just like the OG it is so sensual, so warm, with a light spice Highly, highly recommend if you like Black Opium! I’ll definitely be keeping it as a quick grab when I don’t want to waste the real one. Such good quality for the price!

seems as though i am one of the lucky ones with the right body chemistry to elicit a distinct and pleasant coffee note after the dry down. the longer this is on my skin the darker and dirtier the coffee and patchouli notes become. creamy custardy jasmine is still the main star but the deeper you inhale the more you feel the earthiness in your chest and throat. the coffee stands out without ever outshining the sweet jasmine. you have to search for it. didnt really like black opium but i absolutely love this fragrance. less complex but evolves slowly and beautifully. such a wonderful little fragrance for a great price. one of my new favorites i could wear every day in any season.

I really like this. I'm a little unsure why people say this is a dupe for Black Opium. Maybe it is in the same category of warm and sweet, but I don't find them that similar. To me this perfume is really easy to wear. It's a balance of sweet and pretty, but it's not boring. There is something interesting and inviting about it. I think it could be worn day or night but I think it's better for cooler weather and I feel could be worn to work or out at night. I feel like the name Midnight Cafe captures the vibe of this perfume well.

honestly? yes, a flatter, less complex version of black opium. however, i find it much more dark and enchanting than black opium - black opium is midnight café's softer, more milky & synthetic sister and i also luckily have the right skin chemistry for those deep coffee and patchouli notes in midnight café to shine through. i bought this for ~$20 at marshalls and let it macerate for around 3 months which was DEFINITELY a great decision. wearing this for a new year's party as we speak!!

ironically I've never smelled the original perfume that this one is duping (I'm new to perfume, ok?) but I love love love midnight cafe! it lowkey carried me through senior year of highschool lmao. it feels like drinking a coffee late at night while curled up with a blanket, it feels like basking in a field of jasmine flowers at midnight, it feels dark and mysterious yet comforting and soft at the same time. so so good for a 30 dollar perfume from target <3

I'm in love with this girl, super strong and lasts me all day. She is beautiful and I smell yummy spices, sweetness and layers of gourmand style deliciousness. A repurchase for sure. This one, Magnetic candy, and not another cherry, are my absolute favorites of the line. I am loving my new purchase of Before the Rainbow also but those above are my top favs since I am a gourmand perfume lover.

Midnight Cafe is really a really pretty sweet coffee-jasmine combo. It's like a gentler version of Black Opium, but also resembles a less fruity version of Britney Spears Prerogative. I love wearing it but have to keep re-spraying every 2 or 3 hours to keep the party going -- in my opinion, its only disadvantage. I love two other Fine'ry fragrances, also: Magnetic Candy and Sun-Phoria.

It’s like a simpler, mellower Black Opium. Coffee, something creamy, something vanillic with some patchouli in the base. Still sexy, but not as in-your-face as the original. I like wearing this to bed and saving my Black Opium for going out. I’d recommend this to someone wants the same scent profile without the price tag. Not a bad job for a fragrance I paid less than $30 for.

I love this one a lot. I’ve actually still not smelled Black Opium and its flankers in their entirety but this version is good on its own. It’s a bit dark floral but then has the delicious coffee note. Can be layered with a lot. Honestly just one I love to smell over and over but would not be a daytime scent

Ugh, I love this. Can’t believe this costs as little as it does. For sure has Black Opium vibes but deeper and more sensual. It’s seductive and luscious and rich and mysterious. My only complaint is longevity but it actually performs better than the Black Opium. What a delightful little find at Target!

This is very linear, and I love it because the scent is so nice. It's nothing spectacular, but such a nice, sweet, comforting jasmine with creamy sweetness. I find this lasts for several hours, but I usually use it at night as a calming, slightly sensual scent. Great for the price!

I'm not a fan of the original Black Opium, but I love the Le Parfum flanker. This is a much lighter, more approachable take on their general DNA. I especially like to pair it with Fine'ry's Sweet on the Outside to add some extra vanilla and complexity.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this because of the patchouli note. I think this is patchouli done right! It definitely doesn't dominate or take over.This is incredible. Especially for the price point. I will buy this over and over again!

this is the coziest loveliest velvety scents ive ever owned. it smells like love to me? the scent even leaves a nice flavor on your tongue when smelled close range. its an overall great mildly sexy scent

As a few folks have already pointed out, this is very much a lighter, less complex dupe for Black Opium. On me the coffee note comes out fairly clear, and for $30 at Target this is a pretty solid deal.

This is a pretty good dupe for black opium. Missing a touch of the woods and licorice, but otherwise it still satisfies my itch for now. Lasts for 5-6 hours on me. The price point is pretty decent too.

Smells exactly like my childhood backyard during a spring flower bloom. It lasts FOREVER on me, and I’ve slept in it and woken up with it still easy to smell. It is a very strong, very floral scent.

I have never smelled black opium but this is really nice. I don't smell the coffee, none of scent notes is not stronger then the other ones imo. It's a good combo/blend of scent notes.

Definitely is identical to The only one by Dolce ! It actually boosts the longevity of the fragrance. It’s also a sweet dupe for Black Opium. Very surprised at target on this one

I love love love this fragrance. Smells exactly like spring lilacs to me, but if I really think I can get the custard and coffee. Identical to YSL Black Opium to my nose.

I don't know if this makes sense, but this smells like walking into a Sephora, which isn't a bad thing... LoL!

I was a little hesitant to test this one at Target because I don't like Black Opium very much - it's a little too dark/bitter for me and too much patchouli. But I wanted to try the entire line so I sprayed cautiously this evening during a Target run. This is like Black Opium's sweeter little sister! The coffee is there but isn't overly bitter and I almost detect a bit of chocolate/cacao in there with it. It's more like a lightly sweetened cafe mocha rather than a black coffee. The jasmine behaves like a heart/middle note, and I don't feel like it's a wildly prominent note. The cacao-y, slightly sweet coffee is definitely the star of the show in this fragrance. Maybe the patchouli is what's giving the chocolate effect as I've heard of it behaving that way before, but I've never personally experienced it. I hate hate hate patchouli and usually find that it smells either medicinal-aromatic or like a grimy headshop, neither of which I enjoy. But in Midnight Cafe, I smell neither of those, and the patchouli is not walloping me in the face! I'm really enjoying my test spray of this affordable fragrance. I think this one and Not Another Cherry are the two I'd purchase. (Sunphoria is also decent, but it gives off a bit of a sunscreen-y vibe and I already own PDM Safanad, which also gives me luxe sunscreen vibes but in a much nicer and well-rounded way, so I don't feel I need both.) I didn't find the rest to be appealing. I’m sad to report though that this did NOT last on me. I got about 2 hours out of it - projection started off moderate and then became intimate after 45 minutes. My boyfriend has a sensitive nose and didn’t comment on it when I cuddled with him soon after, so I know that means it is not a strong fragrance.

I was struck by the similarity to Black Opium right from the start. However, Midnight Cafe differs significantly as it develops, lacking Black Opium's darker, deeper, intoxicating dry down. Instead, Midnight Cafe unfolds into a creamy, custard-like floral scent. For those who've tried Black Opium and found it too persistent, mature, or sensual, Midnight Cafe presents a more approachable alternative. It's notably sweeter, without the intense coffee aroma that, for me, made Black Opium feel so expensive - and thus, more difficult wear. Additionally, its projection is considerably softer. Wearing Black Opium often led to inquiries about the scent, which isn't necessarily bad but made me feel too 'seen'. With that, though, Midnight Cafe seems to possess the longevity and potency of a body mist, which is unexpected as it comes in a body mist as well. Exceeded my expectations for a Target brand fragrance. Packaging is cute enough to display with my other fragrances. There are obvious drawbacks to this over Black Opium, but for the price and market, I think the correct corners were cut. If you're a Black Opium fan, you will like this, but not necessarily love it. I made it my goal to find out just how close this is to YSL's Black Opium on me. Black Opium is one of my favorite perfumes. Finding a dupe would make me so happy but even though this is insanely close, I won't stop buying Black Opium. To my nose, these are probably 96% identical to each other. Both are warm and spicy, perfect for cool weather. Almost everything about them matches up until they have been on my skin for a bit. Black Opium dries down and keeps its beautiful warm smokey note that makes it smell more complex and adds a more "this smells expensive" layer to the scent. Midnight Cafe lacks that note and dry down. And I definitely find myself missing it. It turns out that that is what makes Black Opium, Black Opium. This however is so affordable, it is still great to wear, especially if I'm trying to ration my Black Opium.

Not a Black Opium dupe in any regard. I didn’t buy it thinking it was, but if I did, I’d be disappointed. I get a lot of custard creaminess, a pop of jasmine and coffee, and a nice patchouli base. Honestly, I have a Smell Rio Perfume called 06. Midnight Jasmine that is very similar to this one, and I honestly might like Midnight Jasmine more than Midnight Cafe way more, but Midnight Cafe is more creamy custard forward. This is my first Finery purchase. Not totally sold on the value or uniqueness of the brand just yet. This sits in my collection nicely and is a wearable scent for me, but overall, bc it’s so similar to another affordable fragrance of mine, I feel like it’s lacking in the wow factor or originality. I know it might be a dupe house, but if so...it’s missing the edge

The first sniff of this immediately transported me to middle/high school, sneaking into my older sister’s room and stealing sprays of her B&BW body spray (I think it was Twilight Woods, Moonlight Path or Dark Kiss, but can't remember exactly which one--I think it was also a purple bottle though lol). It smells identical to me and is so transportive. This isn’t particularly unique or long wearing, but I bought it for the nostalgia alone and love it very much! I will say though, the listed notes aren't really what I'm getting here. To me this is warm amber, berries, and a hint of patchouli. I don't get coffee or custard really at all.

I didn't expect to like this after spraying my wrist at Target.. LOL! It lasts for hours and hours and one of the very few jasmine smells I like! I'm not a fan of jasmine since it reminds me of my grandma's perfume stand... but the way it's done here smells very lovely and welcoming, it kind of makes me blush. It's odd how a smell evokes that in me. I don't exactly get much coffee. Patchouli lends a deeper quality. Sweet and lovely vanilla drydown. What else is there to say... it's quite nice as it dries down! 7.5/10

opens with white florals and patchouli but settles quickly into a delicious creamy vanilla custard with black currant or some other dark berry and a hint of coffee. i'm not usually a fan of gourmand fragrances but this is lovely, feels indulgent without being too sweet. not as much sillage or longevity as other fragrances i've tried from this brand, but it's inexpensive so that feels forgiveable reminds me of a grown up version of my childhood favorite, the black currant vanilla line from bath and body works

Reminds me of Black Orchid without being too overpowering. People smell Black Opium, but I always found Opium to be more fruity/sweet with the dry off. This one is almost pure floral. EDIT 05/2025: Had to revisit this and something has completely changed, because I do in fact smell Black Opium. The first spray is completely dark floral and coffee like, but the tanginess and sweetness come right after with the dry off. Comparable to both, but definitely more on the Black Opium side.

I actually like this, I wasn't expecting too much. It smells as if I just grabbed a perfume at random that had a black bottle.. my first thought when I sniffed it was that it smelled intimidating which I like lol. It mostly smells floral which I don't usually go for perfumes that smell ONLY like florals but I like this. I love love it, it pairs well with very good girl imo it does not last long, I can only smell it on myself for like 10-15 minutes

Smells like a cheap perfume but not necessarily bad. The first thing I said when I opened the box was that it “smells kind of like a Hollister store”. Personally kind of love that, has some good shopping mall nostalgia about it. Jasmine is definitely the strongest note in this, it also has some lovely coffee undertones. Overall not very long-lasting, probably need to reapply every few hours.

My roommate gave me this perfume because she found it too sweet-smelling. I like this fragrance. It's like a sweeter, younger sister of Black Opium. Midnight Cafe smells like sweet coffee on me. Unfortunately, this scent has no longevity on my skin or clothes. I'm using it as a bedtime scent for now. As much as I like this perfume, I'm not sure if I'd purchase it because it doesn't last.

I ran out of my YSL black opium so I bought this immediately after I smelled this because it was a nice dupe for but it's a bit softer and sweeter in my opinion so better for everyday wear so in a way I prefer this over YSL but YSL has that deep dark seductive scent that I really enjoy. Great and affordable dupe though the longetivity isn't that bad either.

I’m not one for coffee scents, probably ever, but I can’t get over this one. It’s so nice. It’s not overpowering, but sensual, gentle, and intriguing. The notes balance each other out well and no one note is competing for attention over the other. They just blend really well. It’s almost like it could be a Black Opium flanker, if that exists.

I have Black Opium but a friend gifted me this last year. I wear it to work whenever I don't want to waste my real Black Opium. It smells suuuuuper close to the original! But the lasting power isn't quite as good and the dry-down isn't quite as deep. It's a good cheapie to wear but the original is still better!

Not bad at all for a store brand! I get coffee for a few seconds in the beginning and then it turns into jasmine with a little patchouli. I wish the coffee stuck around longer but overall it's pretty nice.

This does smell like Black Opium in my opinion, I'm a big fan of it. I think it leans towards a more fall/winter fragrance. For being a body mist, it lasts a pretty long time, about 3-4 hours on my skin.

Best blind buy I've made. Super nice. But very similar to a Bath & Body Works fragrance mist I once had. So nothing groundbreaking, but sweet and sultry enough to get my attention.

This is actually creamier than Black Opium in my opinion. The vanilla leads, and is actually incredibly pleasant! I don't think it necessarily smells *cheap*, although Black Opium isn't the most refined fragrance to begin with (I personally don't care about that, I enjoy it, but it's not stylistically elegant). This is, however, lacking the nuance of coffee, and the florals feel a little bit more...muddled? It's difficult to describe, but this smells more hemmed in, and less dimensional. I think it's a decent budget option, though I wasn't personally compelled to pick it up for my collection.

i swear to god there’s some blueberry in this fragrance. i know it’s not listed in the notes but man, it’s literally all i can pick up on any time i spray it. it’s definitely sugary, honestly maybe more like a sweet blueberry yogurt, i think that’s the custard note i pick up on. the dry down becomes more powdery and soft. reminds me of laying down on a fluffy navy blue duvet cover in a room with soft orange lighting, it’s raining outside and you’re binge watching gilmore girls... i dunno lol. it’s a simple one, i like it :)

This one is weird. At first, I was like, “Oh wow,” then immediately followed by a "WTF"?? It somehow smells like Las Vegas. like hot concrete roads on a blistering day, complete with the energy of drunk people stumbling around. I know, sounds crazy, but surprisingly, it’s not horrible. The weirdest part is that I couldn’t believe myself when I first thought of that description, but when I went back to sniff it, I got that exact Las Vegas pavement vibe again. It’s honestly super bizarre.

i *suppose* this smells kinda like YSL black opium, but something about it is just way more harsh on my nose... like there's something alcoholic or sharp underneath the other notes, or maybe there's a fruity note that just doesn't quite belong. i wish i liked this more than i do, but i simply don't like it enough to use it and am likely gonna sell it. :/ if you want a black opium dupe body spray, then midnight addiction from B&BW is probably the better option.

really grew on me: at first, all i could smell was cheap perfume solvent, but as i wore it, it became much more smoky and complex. honestly, i get more jasmine than vanilla or coffee – which is nice for me, since i'm not really a gourmand fan. wears off in less than 3 hours, though, even with 4 sprays of the edp, which is understandably disappointing. feels sultry and complex, yet immature. will be using it up, probably won't repurchase.

When I sprayed this on, I hated it. For me it smelled very masculine and almost like wood was burning. After a while though, the scent became soft and feminine. It’s sweet, creamy, and I overall like it. Dupe for Black Opium except it’s softer. I hate the opening but as it settles it’s nice.

I'm new-ish to rating fragrances, I was excited for this one to smell good based on the notes, but it smells far more jasmine than id thought. I do get a deep mature darker vibe from it but its heavily jasmine and I can hardly smell the other notes.

It's OK but it's not the best dupe of Black Opium. The entire brand is all dupes. And they are dupes of frags that BBW has also duped, and the BBW ones are better and cheaper. Save yourself an extra ten bucks and get BBW Midnight Addiction instead.
