Flotholt

I really enjoy this perfume. I really suck at describing and explaining so I rather paint a picture based on my experience with this scent. I get the vivid image of that one scene in Twilight when they are at the beach in the middle of fall. Chill breeze, gloomy, yet refreshing due to the nature of the beach and forestry nearby. It's a gloomy day in a Washington beach. There's nothing green about it, I really don't get any seaweed on this. At the start you get blasted with a salty breeze and some marine like tones. The breeze is chilling yet comforting. There's a hint of smoke at the start, nothing overwhelming but noticeable in the start. As it dries down it stays salty/marine like with hints of something slightly green/woody I would say maybe it's the cypress note. I love the whole experience and in three words this perfume is Melancholic, comforting, chilling. It's nothing groundbreaking but if you're really into gloomy and meditative scents. This one is worth picking up. It's been 3 hours and I still get whiffs from the small decant sprayer I got. still lingering and honestly can imagine this will easily last over 6 hours so definitely worth it on that end if that matters to you.

This is an absolutely amazing fragrance, not one that I am entirely new to however. Flotholt was my first introduction to Fischersund. There is an amazing burnt forest fire after it’s been put out by rain smokey note accompanied by a light peet note. That said, Flotholt isn’t an easy blind reach fragrance, it’s dark, very strong and slightly offensive to the nose. Performance on Flotholt is good but nothing amazing, it is in fact what I’ve found to be fairly standard over the last 40 days. Longevity on my skin and clothes was a little more then 6 hours. A 6/10 here. Projection is strong on Flotholt, it projects in a zone around 3 feet. A 7/10 here. I really enjoyed Flotholt for what it is but it is a definitely not something I would recommend as a blind buy either. It’s definitely a fragrance that feels just slightly closer to art then daily wear. I personally think it works better as a fragrance to use in a layer with another fragrance to add a dark smoke like depth to it. Flotholt is an 8/10 for me but it’s not a daily wear fragrance.

Bought a decant of Flotholt just so I could complete my sample set order, frankly the only reason I decided on it was because the name sounded interesting. I didn't have any sort of expectation going in but this fragrance ended up being one of my favourites. Flotholt brings back memories of travelling around the North Sea, visiting small coastal towns and letting the atmosphere around you consume you. On my skin it opens with a citrussy note with a faint whiff of fresh spruce, which slowly but surely gets overturned by a wave of salt water carrying seaweed that ends up clinging onto you. Finally after you've had enough of letting the waves surround you the base notes evoke an image of warming up by a fire in a small cabin. I ended up falling in love with Flotholt but this is 100% a fragrance that you *need* to try before buying

Flotholt belongs to one of my favorite categories of scents: moody, brooding oceanics that evoke the wild and untamable nature of the sea. This is a contemplative fragrance perfect for gazing at the horizon on a blustery day, humbled by the enormity of the vast expanse ahead. It is cold, but not unkind. In my quest to smell like a piece of driftwood on the shore, this hits pretty close.

I adore Fishersund fragrances. I personally wear N 23, and Flotholt is my partner's scent. The minute he smelled it he knew this will be his scent. It is beautifully marine, salty and smoky, it is Icelandic sea in a bottle. It lasts, and never causes me headaches despite being quite powerful. Fishersund are masters of their craft, truly.

Flotholt was released in 2022 in conjunction with the Sigur Rós World Tour. Its name comes from the Icelandic word for a circular lifebuoy used in water rescue, a reference that suggests steadiness and protection in harsh conditions. The fragrance takes inspiration from the open ocean, particularly its colder, darker, and more rugged character. From the first spray, spruce is immediately apparent. It smells crisp, green, and remarkably natural. A very soft citrus note sits in the background, subtle enough to feel almost hidden, yet it provides a slight lift to the opening. The overall impression is reminiscent of walking through an evergreen forest with a light trace of smoke drifting through the air, slightly dry and gently tar-like. As the fragrance settles over the next thirty minutes, cypress gradually emerges and reinforces the forest atmosphere. At the same time, a salty accord becomes more noticeable. The salt introduces a mineral, lightly musky edge that shifts the setting toward the coastline, blending the impression of trees with ocean air. After about an hour, ambergris becomes more defined, adding depth and enhancing a subtle seaside bonfire effect. The smoke that appeared early on resurfaces with greater clarity, though it remains smooth and well integrated rather than sharp or overpowering. By the two-and-a-half-hour mark, the scent moves into a darker and more earthy phase. The woods deepen, the smoke softens, and a restrained leather nuance develops. A very faint touch of seaweed lingers in the background, maintaining the green coastal thread that runs throughout the fragrance. The drydown feels woody, slightly smoky, and quietly rugged without becoming overwhelming. Having recently reviewed Utilykt, the shared signature of Fischersund is clear. The house seems to have established a distinctive natural woody coastal style and has chosen to continue developing it, which is understandable because it works quite well. Where Utilykt leans brighter and fresher, Flotholt introduces a more pronounced smokiness and, with time, reveals a darker, resinous leather base. Flotholt stands out for its realistic spruce and pine character and its balanced use of smoke. It feels particularly well suited to colder weather, especially outdoors, where its forest and coastal elements can develop fully. Another strong release from Fischersund that remains consistent with the brand’s aesthetic while offering its own identity.

Just kind of comforting? - At first smell, I thought it was just like Utilykt (because all I was catching at first was salt), but then I resprayed Utilykt whereas this Flotholt is much more like --- (this is my third scent of the night!! going well actually. MAX will be 4 (if that. Maybe 3 will be enough) - reminds me more of Puglia Italy (Oct 2024 during end-of-warm-days-and-tourist-season and start-of-stormy season / and personal retreat but also pain) than Iceland (July 2019, earlier summer?) - reminds me of like the 'pony club' or whatever that tv show was called (with the young actresses (one of whom was the mixed woman in Bold Type tv show too) // you're in that show, and you're riding you're horse, and you guys lost track of time and end up getting caught in the rain and are salty and rain soaked by the time you make it back to your wooden barn (which smells lovely of hay, etc.) [and/or you fall asleep in your thick fleece / on the horse fleece between their back and the saddle, *** Tried No 54 next - https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Fischersund/Fischersund-No-54-96250.html?ccid=2847883#focus-zone

Opens spruce forward with no detectable citrus bias, but then dries down to a somewhat seaweed forward note, almost as if it was mixed with the salt here equally, which are restrained with what seems to be a Fischersund signature smell at this point, the cypress as a supportive note. Cypress by itself doesn’t smell smoky, so there is some here to give it some character, which arguably, is teetering to be as prominent as the cypress here, but not in a bad way. There is some amber to help mellow out the profile a bit, and possibly some musk since, overall, the profile isn’t pungent as something you’d find in Flóð. If you like seaweed but prefer it not to be on steroids with some nuances involving the Fischersund signature, this is a good choice, but as a matter of personal taste, I prefer Flóð. Well crafted fragrance regardless.

Pretty decent marine fragrance, kind of has a smoked briny vibe in the opening and calms down once it’s dried down. longevity isn’t solid enough for me to justify a purchase though.

A bonfire on a beach is absolutely correct- but for me, the smoky notes overpower the rest of the fragrance. Burned ash.

i wanted to like this so so badly because i really badly want an edgy masc marine and this does dry down to a more pleasant honest marine but the opening is so grandma's house. i'll probably revisit this
