My Love Has the Colour of the Night

Was gifted a travel atomizer & @ first smell I initially thought of lemongrass & spicy incense. I had no idea of the notes since my mother who had given me the sample couldn't remember the brand & name of it. She just told me it was a new Japanese fragrance house that she really liked 'cause she loves patchouli. I really liked but @ that time she had given me Parfums de Marly Kalan as a birthday gift so I just put it away for later. I kept spraying it throughout that time sparingly since it projects strongly & lasts long on my skin & I couldn't help but start to appreciate it since it reminded me of a spiritual place with burnt incense, cold granite floors & dim lighted candles, a place of tranquility, elegance, sophistication & strength. Actually, its funny, that I asked my 12 yr old boy what came to mind when he smelled the fragrance & he replied that this is what a Samurais' scent must be! Price is steep but I'm happy to have this sample, not a mainstream scent, more of a delicacy in a way.

This is one of the most amazing vetiver perfumes I have smelt and currently have. Vetiver is so nice and perfect here, a true gem for a vetiver lover as I am. The low score in FR seems to come from the fact that this has been evaluated by those who don't like vetiver: I really don't see any other possible reason. If there is any patchouli, it's more of an imaginative part or I just have to wear it five more times to distinguish it, also wear it on my hand too (in addition to the shirt) to say the final word about it.

What is it with this house and confusing note break down descriptions? Yes, I get beautiful, peppery guaiac wood, and the bright, freshness of vetiver, but for me the 'warm spicy' part is WAY forward, and it is unisex and it is absolutely gorgeous! A really soft, Christmas time fruity hug - it is amazing! In spite of the, frankly, completely incomparable note breakdowns, this reminds me of Bond no. 9 Manhattan, but that is hardly a cheap swap. Definitely one of my favourites!

Bought this after trying on 3 different perfumes in a shop in Florence,Italy When she first sprayed it on me and told me the price, I had her show me a few others. After not loving what I sampled, I smelled my arm again and said "I really love this one" and it turned out to be My Love Has THe Color of Night. I bought it and amd extremely happy with the perfume. Although it was very expensive, I was on vacation and no one back home in the states will have it! Wonderful perfume

I’m in love, this one so good and unique, woods with patchouli oil, so relaxing and charismatic sexy scent. This house amazed me with the uniqueness while using simple notes, big love.

This is hands down the best fragrance from Floraiku collection! intoxocating and mysterious which is like forbidden satanic words ! works like a bomb in the winter. Love it!

Hmmmm; love this sexy smell; young Robert de Niro or any other dark mediterranean :) ! Not unisex imo. and no, not complex either, but who cares if it smells this good !

Addictive scent but not narcotic. It's slightly reminiscent of Chinese medicine but overall smells nice and masculine.

Warm oud, nice softy fresh vetiver, don't get patchouli at all

This sample had impressed me even back when I was still fighting my war with patchouli... because I couldn't erase from my mind something that stood this noble while smelling this dark and slightly morbid... Dry patchouli. A strong and dark fragrance. This time I can say it lives up to its name. Guaiac wood, vetiver and patchouli notes are very dominant. There's a bit of an herbal aroma. The fragrance opens with a pungent spice. I'd even call it warm, but then it hardens and turns into what I think of as dry woody patchouli and dark balsam with a hint of incense. Dark and sultry... This starts out w/ a spicy/grassy vetiver style but gets earthy and rich as the fragrance progresses. I find this to be a great masculine scent. It smells like the outdoors. Almost everything I have tried from this brand leans masculine. Only 2 leaned feminine and 1 was unisex. Out of the 2 that leaned feminine I only liked 1 and that was In the Dark which is not in the data base of this magazine yet. It is an interesting take on Rose, it combines it w/ peppermint and incense. If I was to buy one for myself it would be that one. If I was getting a fragrance for my husband from this line it would be this one, My Love Has The Color of The Night. It is a very sexy, earthy and hyper masculine scent.

I didn't hold out high hopes for this before trying it (I am not a fan of Palo Santo)......but I REALLY like this! It's lovely and deep and rich, with lots of earthy patchouli. I think this would smell amazing on almost every body. The vetiver is quiet in the background, and the guaiac is a nice balancing note. Longevity is good (it lasted nearly an entire work day, and I think it'd do better in humidity rather than my bone-dry office), and if not for the silly price, I would say it's full-bottle (but not blind-buy) worthy. If you enjoy deep/woody/earthy scents, I definitely recommend getting your nose on this.

I am not usually a patchouli fan but this one is nice and inoffensive. Patchouli, vetiver and gaiac wood together created a dry woody scent. I can see why some people think that it is a dry scent whereas others take it as a wet woody scent. It is not the common dry smoky desert-like woody scent but something in between and well balance with the slight hint of sweetness from gaiac wood. It takes some time for gaiac wood to appear and I enjoy it so much after 10 minutes from spray. In some sense it is a lighter version of Aesop hwyl.

Nice dry peppery cedar-centered frag, with support of guaicwood, resins, patchouli and smoky vetiver (in the base). Interesting? Yes. But it is like 80% Bentley Absolute (with the sweetness taken out), and 20% Montana Graphite which both cost 10X less. Clearly, it's better defined than BA, and BA does not have the refined vetiver in the base. Still, not worth the outrageous asking price imo. Fall/Winter days, 25+

Guaiac Wood, vetiver, patchouli...... On me it smells wet woody with cherries. Subtle, dark, lovely. This has me thinking of a scent I wore decades ago: Jacamo. When it dries down it leaves behind a faint bitterness, not sweet anymore but astringent, dry and Listerine like.

a little cold november night 5 am and the sky is parliament blue. you've just left the club, you're tired and smoking on your car hood with your girlfriend, looking at a dark sea view. and i guess this is watered down. in 1 hour, sits close on the skin for long hours.

The notes votes on this one are interesting to me since my brain is reading this as predominantly vetiver, which is disappointing because I wanted to smell the patchouli. I think this is definitely worth checking out for vetiver fans though.

Cinnakitty is spot on imho. It's nice though if you like dark green earth bound scents. Very unisex. So simple. It makes the prices they are charging all the more ludicrous.

Strong, smoky, between A City on Fire and Encre Noire a l'Extreme, but linear. Good performer, solid perfume, not much of a standalone and not worth the price.

Floraiku scents seem to open a little weird, then evolve into something great over time (the ones that last, at least). This one hit me with medicine, then dried down to incense. I'm not a huge fan of patchouli, but it is very cozy and smooth.

Evidently detectable patchouli and guaiac wood. Gave out a similar sense with the 'Sound of a Ricochet'. The fragrance smells amber coloured. Confident, ambitious and with moonlight brightness.

This is first and foremost a synthetic vetiver scent, with wood and grass or a moss note. Very earthy, leans masculine.

WHAT IS HAPPENING??? I have had the most brainf'cking olfattive experience (ever). The scent is on a ...Bonfire and camphor and naphtalene??? I almost felt myself being flammable. I mean...would a car mechanics wear this scent? No. He doesn't need it, as he already smells it naturally when you work with petroleum pitch... It is absolutely unwearable and horrible. It does not comply with Floraiku Japanese brand? Can someone explain that to me??

Not a fan of this fragrance. This give me old vibe, medicinal, it is like chinese traditional medicine shop keeper, an old man with grey hair with bunch of some wood or roots. Give me nostalgic feeling of "tie ta yao gin" ( asian must know this wound med ) it's not my cup of tea.

Fairly minimal woody scent where vetiver takes a lead. A “reference” scent: it’s strictly neutral, completely emotionless. It’s at the center of any coordinate systems. (I laughed out hardly when I saw the price.)

Very masculine scent. It reminds me (I thing because of vetiver Terre d'Hermes-Hermes. So strong, so woody.

This literally smells like dried earth, and not much else.

This is exactly what is encapsulated in what is most probably my most loved incensey perfume... the black pepper imparting an warmth in an otherwise chilling yet viscerally encompassing base of camphoraceous patchouli on top of the black canvas of vetiver and incensey guaiac wood... while incense is not a formal note, the combination of guaiac wood, vetiver and pepper gives the familiar feel... it provides this uncanny feeling of loving tremendously to the point of absolution but yet something feels distant like the void of the great black lifeless ocean... somewhere caught between the earthly bounds and the existential nihilism... for you have seen the future... The colour of the night is black, and so is my love.. but only if you seek deeply, you shall find a refuge in me..

Dominant Notes: Hinoki, Cedar, Cistus Labdanum, Guaiac Secondary Notes: Elemi, Pink Pepper Subtle Discreet Notes: Black Pepper, Patchouli, Vetiver It gives away two stories to me: 1: It reminds me of the spiritual scent still present in places of worship in Kyoto, residual incense in temples, imprint and redolence of Japanese Cypress (Hinoki). A woody and mystic scent in suspension. 2: Rick Owens in California dousing himself in Palo Santo. The eccentric people who live in inherited mansions in Porterville, Hidden Hills or Calabasas, with their dark neo-gothic West Coast style. They're too cool for school, but they eat poke bowls like everyone else. Smelling the cult leader as a social status symbol. A scent of resins, cacti and burning dust, of arid desert. It possesses the pungency of ash, the natural aromatic sourness of cedar, and the invigorating freshness of vetiver. A shamanic ritual of peyote, an earthy aboriginal cleansing patchoulic. Its liturgical drydown is paradoxically cold. I feel like I'm smelling phantom notes such as oakmoss, saffron, styrax, cade oil, frankincense, leather, juniper, and bay leaf...

Totally minimal, very upmarket, *very* punchy patch + vetiver + wood (and there's not enough of the third for it to be detectably guaiac rather than just generic dark woodsiness imo). So, not great for me if two legs of this triad are the ones I'm not keen on (patch, vetiver, really dicey notes for me as they repel me when done wrong and are just OK even when done right.) I'd rather have had much much more guaiac and the other two creeping in more discreetly. For me the overall effect of this one is a shade too butch and manly, but still just about wearable (which is a shocking reversal!) and done with perceptibly high class organic ingredients, not overwhelming synthetics, and it's all held in a very disciplined balance. Dark, moody, smouldering. Think young Robert de Niro. Unisex tending to masculine but you do have to really really appreciate patchouli. Strong sillage and longevity too. This one is not for me but I'm glad to have tried it; there's a real sense of confidence and quality to it. So if really classy patch & vetiver do it for you, then have at it!

Very green patchouli and vetiver scent. The guaiac wood feels wet. This is very aromatic and eccentric. It makes me think of a man that wears olive green corduroy jackets and a bohemian looking hat, with a silk paisley patterned shirt. He is a professor and talks too much, smokes too much, and still manages to be charming. I can't imagine this scent on a woman. I like the drydown, it is very relaxing and deeply herbal, like a forest after the rain. The scent is very oily and natural smelling, after a while if becomes a little bit minty. Very interesting but a sample is enough for me. I usually don't wear scents that are this deeply green and masculine.

I love guaiac wood. Peppery, fresh, wed woodchip. Supported by a lovely earthy patch, super niche, super realistic walk in the tree lined woods smell. Not getting much vetiver but it may appear on drydown as usual. This leans masculine, but in a way that I can easily wear - just more of the fact that it's very woodsy. I usually don't quite understand what people mean when they describe a fragrance as "medicinal"... But when I smelled the opening of this fragrance, "medicinal" was the first word to come to my mind. Not very pleasant, in my opinion. It dries down to more of a woody, spicy vetiver, which is definitely an improvement on the kind of weird opening, but it's still not really my jam, I'm sorry to say.

A fragrance from the Forbidden Incense collection. Like it, quite a nice smoky/woody patchouli and vetiver combo. Not sure if it would stand out in a crowd, but I'd happily wear it. I just started to discover patchouli fragrances and bought a patchouli essential oils, the opening is literally earthy patchouli and it stays the whole time, but after opening I also can notice conifer tree. It’s like you bought a live Christmas tree, this is literally how your hands smell after you brought it home.

Wood fillings, vetiver, And black pepper. No sign of patchouli at all, just straightforward wood fillings, vetiver, and black pepper with some cedar. Fairly put and simple.

Bang! Patchouli. Strong Patchouli. Some woodiness/vetiver. That's about it. Very simple scent. For those who like damp forest floors.

Wood, lots of dry wood. Very aromatic and comforting scent. I think I would find it quite sexy on a man. Thumbs up from me 👍
