Chypre Sublime

If you like POAL and are looking for a somewhat more reasonable "dupe" of sorts this is for you. It's not exactly the same; POAL is deeper, richer, and has a less "green rose" quality and I think POAL's patch is smoother somehow. But the point is, if you like that, you may like this too, and it's less spendy. If you like your roses with a strong backing of patchouli, again you'll go for this. It's a green rose (to my nose), very lemony-geranium, peppery "rosine"; this is ROSE. It is not mild or meek and it's not a blowsy pink, but a dark jammy red (probably less jammy than POAL). It is somewhat reminiscent of the "Rose Jam" Lush body spray--but better (the high sort of green geranium note is pronounced there--and here too). There is certainly the lovely "incense" and "woods" dry down, but it's less strong than in POAL with a more dominant patch in the middle and the end. I do not detect the violet much except in a sweet way--it might be that kind of candy-sweet-tart aspect this scent has. This is not a garden "true" tea rose type of rose; it's amplified, exaggerated, spicy. Another characteristic that Rose Jam and Chypre Sublime share is longevity and projection. My skin is dry, and I often "over spray" just to get some kind of silage at all. This one I applied with my usual (very heavy) hand, and it was, "Oh, oh!" I'm middle aged, and I think this might knock the younger set over, so bear that in mind. A spritz or two will do. That strong silage and longevity I suspect has to do with the generous helpings of geraniol and some synthetics; this does have a more "synth" vibe than POAL (again, my primary comparison). It lasts forever on me, which again is surprising considering the "dry skin" issue. I'm not a big fan of heavy synthetic perfumes; I have a lot of mixed media, or more "natural" scents, but if it works, it works. I quite like this. This is the second scent I have from Floral Street, and I must say so far so good with this company; I also purchased the Ylang Ylang Espresso, and it was everything I had hoped Cafe Tuberosa would be from Atelier (a little sweet, but more coffee thank you)--except, Ylang, not Tuberose. Anyhow, I'm going to use my small Sephora bottle up and go FB on this, since my POAL is saved for special occasions.

I have the 8-scent discovery set. I was hesitant to try this one because I do NOT like rose-forward perfumes. I wear big rich fragrances: my signature is Coco and I daily year-round Obsession and Black Orchid. Still, I was determined to try all 8. This was unexpectedly love at first sniff, and got even better on my skin. Incense, warm woods, and a wet, rich rose that smells like my ancient rose bushes and nothing like what I thought of as “perfume rose.” (Now I know what “jammy” means.) I ordered a full bottle 30 mins after putting it on for the first time. Chypre Sublime projects gloriously with 2 sprays but only lasts 5-6 hours before needing a top-up. I haven’t tried POAL yet so can’t compare but if this is her little sibling I’ll adore POAL even more. Unisex but not for the faint of heart; seductive and stunning for a dramatic woman or daring man. This might be overwhelming in warm weather (I don’t see much of that here in Ireland). Go light on the trigger finger for the office.

I started at the light side of the "light to dark" 8 vial Floral Street sampler set and I must say that now I am on no.6 of 8 into the dark side, I am enjoying these fragrances much more. I really don't understand Floral Street's names, this one is called Chypre Sublime. Yes, I suppose under the dictionary definition of a chypre, this one does fulfil it, but I have to say the name "chypre" put me off before I'd even tried this fragrance. I was thinking of 80s powerhouse scents that scare me like Paloma Picasso, I was so wrong, this is exquisite. The lovely fresh jammy rose is the star of the show here, (this is what I wanted from Neon Rose and didn't get!). The opening is showered with the spicy pink pepper and green geranium. The incense get smokier as the fragrance dries and the violet blooms. Tread lightly with this one, one spray is enough, the projection and longevity are good. This is an absolute winner!

I have tested every single existing sample from Floral Street, not once, but wore each for a few days, and my winners and FB worthy became Chypre Sublime and Iris Goddess. Both classy, elegant and long-lasting. Chypre Sublime is the fragrance I was impressed the most during last year of obtaining newbies. It is very Byredo-like, the nose is Jerome Epinette who has made many perfumes for Byredo. Ignore the similarity votes on this page, please, they are very misleading. The only similar fragrance with Chypre Sublime is a Portrait Of a Lady Malle indeed, like some reviewers have picked, but I prefer Chypre Sublime nevertheless, it is more bright, less gloomy-patchy and more incensy. It is not a budget substitute of POAL at all, but a very glamorous, mature, well-blended chypre, full-bodied, emotional and unique.

I love rose fragrances that are undercut with a darker depth - and Chypre Sublime does that so well with how the rose is blended with that patchouli and the incense notes. Love this - it feels so layered and rich, like a swatch of bright red velvet cloth. I also own Portrait of a Lady and Diptyque’s Eau Capitale and although they’re similar, I think it’s not redundant to own all three (and I’m not just rationalising my decisions here lol). Whereas POAL goes really dark and almost dusty with its incense note, Chypre Sublime leans slightly earthier and the geranium note makes it retain a little sparkle without losing its depth (unlike Eau Capitale which almost too light with its citrus). This could last longer but I just carry a travel spray which is refillable for a discount.

Do not get me wrong: it's a beautiful rose fragrance with tartness from pepper and geranium that has a beatiful patchouli base to make it last all day. The scent isn't really the issue. The issue is that this is, first and foremost, a modern chypre with no real aspects of a traditional chypre to speak of. This possibly is a bigger issue than I'm making it. If Miss Dior Cherie is a chypre, than why not this? Plus, it's floral street. Something I should be expecting highly modern releases from. I do get the oakmoss detection some people speak of but even as a note it's not really there for me. Pink pepper can do a good job of emulating the crisp freshness of oakmoss without actually representing the scent itself.

Wow! Very well named although I'm not sure why oak moss is not listed. It does smell like it is present. This is one intense rose, geranium and patch fragrance. The big three hit you with quite a wallop. The violet accent is perfect. It brightens and sharpens the rose and patch like the geranium. I guess I am an arty type as I went to London art schools and I feel right at home with this potent scent. It is unapologetic and for the sort of person who knows what they are about. I'd wear this when visiting art galleries and just chilling. This is my Floral street purchase but I will probably add the peony ones cos it's just to Moderate sillage and longevity.

Like most of the reviewers, I first tried Chypre Sublime as part of the discovery kit. The first spray slapped me in the face with pepper and incense, and I almost threw it away. That lasted all of 30 seconds, and then BOOM. Rose and chypre heaven. The rose scent is warm and romantic, and I think that it provides a beautiful counterpoint to the earthy chypre. It’s almost like smelling a rose bush in full bloom that is planted in dark, freshly turned soil. If chypres intimidate you, this is an excellent step into the genre. Also wonderful for fans of rose. Great value for the price, too.

Sexy, dark, oriental rose perfume. This starts quite smoky and spicy from the incense and pepper. Shortly after, the rose really blooms; it’s a bold, slightly jammy, red rose. In the drydown I get quite a lot of patchouli. I imagine the prominence of the patchouli is why this is called a chypre but in my mind, this is a bit too spicy and dark to be considered a classic chypre. Nonetheless I really like this, especially for nighttime. It also projects really well on me.

Chypre Sublime – Floral Street Rose, geranium, patchouli, incense, benzoin... pure vintage vibes. Bold, heavy, statement florals — and I loved it 😻 (It did give me a slight headache though.) It reminds me of classic perfumes my grandmother used to wear, and it’s similar to Molton Brown Rose Dunes and JHAG Lady Vengeance. I’d only get a 10ml, as it’s not an everyday scent for me — but it’s gorgeous ❤️😍

I love Floral Street’s darker fragrances and this is no exception. In fact it may be my favourite from the house replacing Black Lotus. It’s a strong opening but the dry down is where it shines. The rose and the patchouli are the main players to me. I wore this to work today and received several compliments. For the record I am a 60 year old man. Totally unisex.

This smells like the 80s. Old, beautiful, and mysterious. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. This type of rose immediately transports me back through time. Gradually a smoke note comes into play. So, smoke and rose. My goodness! I would say Kayali’s Elixir 11 is a modern and more sweet version of this. Both equally mysterious (chypre sublime a bit more so perhaps.)

Found this today for a bargain. I already own Portrait of a lady by Frederic Malle and I couldn’t believe how much of a match this is. It’s almost identical to my nose. My partner blind tested both and even he couldn’t tell. Don’t waste your money on over priced Estée Lauder Companies perfumes when you can support a small UK business. It’s sublime 💯

This is a solid rose patchouli fragrance. I enjoyed it and am still enjoying it 7 hours later. At the start, there is a sharp knife of pepper and spice. That brought a smile to my face because I adore geranium. It mellowed down after an hour, but not too much. It's not POAL and it's not trying to be. It's Chypre Sublime and a winner in my books.

Chypre Sublime smells like Paloma Picasso painted with modern aromachemicals. It's still a bitter and sour greeness with a big fat rose in the middle. Like bordering on love. Along similar lines as the old Juliette Has a Gun stuff which was also older scent profiles made modern-ish. I really enjoy that sort of take so I am very satisfied.

Rose on a bed of patchouli and incense. The longer it wears the soapier the rose gets. I expected to love it, but i’m disappointed. Smells a bit dated. Nothings about this rose is new or interesting enough. A bit prim and matronly, in my opinion.

A livelier, sexier POAL on my skin. Some rose fragrances I find too granny-ish but this is the total opposite to me - ripe, jammy, lush and very noticeable. It would feel obscene in the workplace!

One of my new favorites (can't have just one, can I?). The sharp scent dries down to a nice rose/patchouli mellowness. Lasts longer on me than most.

Grabbed this at a major discount (CAD$17) as Floral Street is discontinuing their partnership with Sephora (rumor?). Would I purchase at full price or retail sale price? Definitely no, so take that into consideration! Opening is citrussy, oily Rose similar to Chopard Love (but thankfully not as bug-spray-ish). It has a vague resemblance to the sweet, slightly watery chypre feel in Cartier La Panthère. Very fast drydown (minutes) into a sweet rosewater scent. If you have anything similar already, this would be redundant/disappointing. If you find this at a major discount then it's an easy dumb reach if you like the profile. Nice for after bathing or a quick refresher. Performance is poor in my opinion. Very faded after 15 mins, four sprays. Scent on my sweater from yesterday morning is coming through more. Tested in summer weather (cool 17C and warm 27C).

A classic patchouli-rose fragrance. Not that much of a chypre in my opinion, but who cares, Floral Street has some less fitting names. This is beautiful, the patch is earthy and clean, the rose is fresh and a little jammy, but without the berry notes many rose fragrances have at the moment, more plum-like. The addition of violet lends the fragrance a feminine freshness. There are also some warm resinous notes and light woods. It's a very easy to wear, likeable version of the rose-patch concept that could be used day or night. Nothing sharp, overwhelming or dirty here. I'm a big fan of this category of scents so I naturally enjoy Chypre Sublime, but it doesn't blow me away. There are so many stunning fragrances with patchouli and jammy rose that this doesn't quite cut it, but I'm sure it will be just the right blend for someone else.

I like Chypre Sublime. I think Floral Street will have two camps of followers - either you like their deeper perfumes, and find their lighter ones insipid, or you like their lighter perfumes and find their heavier scents disgusting. I like their heavier scents, I find them much more interesting. This is a strong rose-patchouli perfume, that is reminiscent of Nirvana Rose but is much easier to wear. That one is much harsher, much stronger, and takes a long time to dry down into something tamer. Chypre Sublime opens with tart, sour geranium, and is quite smoky. The drydown is much smoother and sweeter, with rose coming to the forefront. It lasts a long time on me. It's not my favorite rose-patchouli, and I also own many of these darker rose scents so I don't need this one, but this is a good fragrance.

This is a thick, heavy rose and patchouli fragrance. It's actually nice, but not as refined as a fragrance I tried recently, Mad Madame by Juliette Has a Gun. They aren't total dupes, they mostly just have the strong rose and patchouli notes in common. I do prefer Mad Madame though. Normally I don't mind having fragrances that are super similar or serve the same "purpose", but I have found that although I really like rose + patchouli I do only need one fragrance like that and my choice is Mad Madame. It took about an hour for Chypre Sublime to mellow out into a nice scent. At first it was so strong and heavy. I was on the verge of a headache. But, it's nice now! I'll definitely keep this sample. I'm not drawn to this brand or the bottle at all though so I won't be buying.

This is a nice take on the common rose-patchouli DNA. On me, this definitely does resemble POAL, but is not near as complex and the performance doesn't compare to POAL. Also, this dries down with a more prominent (and synthetic) wood accord compared to POAL. However, this is one of the better rose-patchoulis I've tried. This is nice, I do really like it, but for me POAL is the gold standard when it comes to rose-patchouli fragrances...it's hard to beat that one.

Nicer than I expected. The only one I've thought really walked the unisex line well. The incense and pepper in the open, with the rose and patchouli make it smell like something my dad currently wears. I would never buy it, but I do enjoy it and I'll make good use of my sample. Only rose scent I've ever liked, because it's not that light grandma rose, it's dark and heady and reminds me of fall somehow.

fascinating! this is my first chypre perfume. the opening is light and green with a touch of nectar-like sweetness which begins to darken in minutes, reaching a turkish delight kind of scent at the midpoint, then becoming a deep honeyed rose. i kind of like it, i think? it toes the line of being too old lady for me but with a moody enough outfit i think i could pull it off well.

Not a chypre. It's a lovely rose-patchouli closest to La Perla Just Give Me Roses in my collection. I've got at least 12 variations on rose-patchouli in my collection and these two are close to each other. (Not "old lady" at all, that's ageist. Anyone who says that doesn't understand vintage perfume history.) My sample is 5 years old now and it's settled beautifully.

I'm not usually one to wear rose, simply because I usually get a headache from the scent. So far this is the only rose perfume that hasn't given me a headache and it smells amazing!! A fresh and slightly jammy rose. Perfect balance of sweetness! This strikes me as a great signature scent suitable in any season or time of day Top of my to-buy list :)

A good unisex rose scent. It reminds me of Armani Si but with the rose taking a backseat. The incense keeps it from getting too sweet or syrupy. It kind of smells like a freshly bloomed rose bush outside a wooden cottage by the sea. It's a beautiful fresh smell that would work all year-round but can imagine it is very cozy in winter.

A resinous rose, tinged with geranium, decidedly a night time fragrance, and extremely close to Rossy dePalma's Eau de Protection by ELDO, a longtime favorite of mine. The first three I sampled from the floral Street set did not impress, but Chypre Sublime and Arizona Bloom rescued the experience. I'm excited to try the next one.

On me this is rose rose rose, but not the botanical fresh out of the garden type, nor that gothic dark jammy patchouli smoky type that other lucky people happily are describing. On my skin this is like eating a rose rich Turkish delight (covered in dried rose flakes an all) while sitting in a tub of rose pot pourri.

8/10. Smells like rose, incense and geraniums. By far my favorite from the brand. A third of the price and in my opinion, a third of the quality of POAL. Still good and my husband actually prefers this to POAL. Could be a fancy going out fragrance or a stay at home fragrance.

Smells like a typical department store perfume initially, but then after a while when it's settled it starts to smell subtly sweet like honey (it's like a mix of honey and rose scents). It is a stronger, bolder scent, and it lasts pretty long. This scent has grown on me :)

It's a good chypre. Opens with a bit tartness and incense. It has some depth of complexity. It's in my maybe-I-will-get a-full-bottle list. The performance is better than most of other FS products.

On me, Chypre Sublime pulls as fresh-jammy rose and powdery violet, with a hint of depth from patchouli and geranium. It's alright. A bit too old-fashioned and familiar for me.

Beautiful warm floral, nothing too unique. In the dry down it smells like Giorgio Armani Si to me so if you have that one I would pass

Was really intrigued by the notes im picking up a honey as it drys down. A nice woman in church would wear this

Peppery top note, a vibrant, green rose-geranium combo, olibanum oil, herbaceous, woody patchouli, subtle ambery base. The strangest aspect of this perfume is that the incense note is not a power player, it is more of a subtle touch that slowly departs with time. Like most modern chypres, there's no natural moss to be found, instead the brand is using the textureless synthetic counterparts. Comparison to FM POAL: The similarities are most apparent on initial application, and as it progresses this one develops differently. CS is greener, fresher, it is not nearly as earthy or medicinal, no clove, no raspberry. It's softer, clings more closely to the skin, and it doesn't last quite as long. I'd say more like, half of Portrait of a Lady for roughly 1/5th the price. A budget dupe that doesn't smell cheap or old fashioned. Less refined than POAL but still very nice. Current FM prices are laughable, this is good value at its price point. I somewhat prefer Agent Provocateur, but I think Chypre Sublime conveys the idea behind POAL more accurately.

I am almost crushed by a bait-and-switch. The bait was the vial in the discovery set and the switch was the full size bottle. The vial was a jammy rose with a kind of spiky aura of incense and the earthy resins and woodsy patchouli. Heavenly and achingly brilliant. The full size? Atrocious. A salty, citrusy dried geranium fest that swallows all other flowers. I did smell some lovely wooden resins on the drydown choking on geranium fumes. How could the sample vial smoke the full size right out of the water? I have never seen any frag two-faced in its 2 sizes. I may have to ask to exchange it for a different bottle, if I can confirm this one is bad. I also bought the full size of Black Lotus, the inferior of the two but it kicks Chypre Sublime's ass 3 ways til Sunday. Just imagine what could have been. However, it makes me appreciate Black Lotus as the rising star it is.

Wow, this perfume is tenacious: after ten hours of wear (including a 45-minute workout!), it was still so strongly present on me that I had to scrub it off when I got home from work! In particular, the rose lasted FOREVER, and was finally just too much for me. Ok, now I might just be crazy.........but I swear I smelled honey in the top notes! I guess it must've been the geranium, since I definitely got the incense and pepper as well. Oh, and I sprayed once on each arm, and even that seemed a bit too much: it was very nearly headache material for me. So, just be cautious of that! Overall, the scent is not my cup of tea, but I can definitely appreciate the quality of it. I personally would class it as more "floral" than "chypre", so don't blind buy it if you're looking for a very chypre perfume.

The first word that came to mind when I smelled this on my skin was “clash,” as if the notes do not play well together. Sharp, and also familiar. I could not look up the notes or comparisons to see what it reminded me of in-store (phone battery died). I finally get home to charge my phone, and I see that it has damask rose. I scoured my collection for rose scents, but they were all too sweet. Then I checked my de-stash pile, and I found it: Dua The Real You, the Fenty edp dupe. It is quite close to Chypre Sublime. No one else has suggested Fenty above, so I added it to the “reminds me of” section. Fleeting scent, but uniquely sharp and pungent. My daughter detects licorice in the dry-down while I get powder and the incense.

Must love roses. I came across Chypre Sublime in a Floral Street discovery set. The top notes of incense, geranium and pink pepper really announce themselves when you first spray this fragrance. They are loud and in charge. However, once the perfume dries down, the rose really shines. The rose is the true star of the show with Chypre Sublime. It is a true, fresh cut rose scent. Delicate, classic, and soft rose. If you love the true scent of rose, you will love Chypre Sublime. Likewise, if you do not like the smell of roses, stay far away from this one because the rose reigns with this fragrance.

It’s a green, earthy rose. A real, true rose, not a rosy white floral. Straight up jammy red rose. That part is very nice and definitely the most pleasant note in the fragrance. The longevity was probably the weakest of the dark discovery pack. It’s a bit too peppery for my taste, but not bad. I think this one came down to skin chemistry for me. I can see someone else really loving this, but it just wasn’t great on me. It smelled really nice on the tester paper. I’ll use up my sample as room spray or gift it to my roommate.

I thought I would dislike this one, but this reminds me a bit of Cafe Rose, which I love, but heavier on the patchouli and with a more vintage vibe. If I can distinguish patchouli in a fragrance, that is usually a deal-breaker for me, but out of the 3 patch-heavy (to my nose) fragrances in the discovery set, I can tolerate this one the most, but I still can't say I "like" it. But for those who like or tolerate patchouli, this would be a more budget-friendly alternative to the pricy Cafe Rose.

The patchouli in Chypre Sublime is in the same vein as Jo Malone's English Pear & Freesia — at least the same in how it sits inoffensively in both scents. Because of the warm smokiness of the incense note, this one is definitely for cooler weather. On my skin, it only lasted for 2 hours max. Some reviews say the lasting power is excellent, perhaps when you do more sprays in your clothes? I don't hate it, but I also don't see myself reaching for this too.

This honestly reminds me a lot of NR Fleur Musc (one of my favorites), but sweeter I guess with a jammier rose. They both list rose, pink pepper, patchouli, and violet in the notes, so I guess it’s not surprising. I like it, but personally, I prefer the less-sweet NR over this, and since they’re so similar, I would not consider this to be fbw. However, if you find Fleur Musc to be too musky, you may prefer this.

A very 80's-90's beautiful oriental rose! It reminds me of my mother. It's something in the DNA in those vintage scents (I suspect the geranium in this case) that whenever appears in new creations, it brings me straight back to those days. The incense is also prominent, but it is strong only after some minutes. As the time goes by, it becomes heavier and heavier on patchouli,too.

As a rose lover this doesn’t actually hit the spot for me. I think the pepper and green notes make it a bit too suffocating when put on the neck or near the face. The scent is beautiful when put on the wrist i moderatoren though, and i imagine this would layer very well with other aldehydics or more creamy sweet scent. On it’s own it is a bit sharp

this starts with a jammy rose, patchouli and a hint of geranium and incense. it's promising at first, but then the geranium gets really strong and takes over...which it can do on my skin. it gets way too herbal for my tastes. however, this is still one of the best samples in the sample pack i got.

Interesting scent profile. Smells good on paper. Somewhere between a 😑 and a 🙂. On skin, a touch stale for my taste. Very yellow. I get peppery roses with a mild, flowery resin undertone, and a hint of rubbery leather. The whole facade is smokey. I really wanted to like this, but I don’t.

This is soooooo pretty. Delicate rose fragrance. It sits quite close on the skin. Projection is not as good as some of my other similar rose scents. Glad I have tried this but I will stick with my other longer lasting rose perfumes
