1988

Floris 1988 opens with lemon, bergamot, grapefruit, blackcurrant leaf, green notes, galbanum, rosemary, rose, thyme, vetiver and musk. It starts with a moderate sillage. What emerges is a bright green and citrus aromatic perfume for the first hour. Just after an hour after application, the lemon and bergamot have gone, and with them the brightness has mostly gone despite the hints of grapefruit and blackcurrant leaf. The green notes and galbanum dominate above the whiffs of jasmine, rosemary, rose, iris, thyme, vetiver and musk. The sillage has diminished to somewhere between intimate and moderate. The perfume fades from this point so that by four hours after application all that remains is just the vetiver and those wisps fade away not long afterwards. 1988 is well blended with some high quality ingredients but I don't feel inclined to part with more cash for something that is done in four hours. I want more longevity for the price however elegant a perfume might be.

This is how I imagine Grey Flannel smelling back in the day before it became the synthetic chemical mess of the present. Perhaps around 1988 or so. Coincidence? Probably not, but I digress. This is a really lovely sweet woody floral fragrance that is very clean and equally unisex. Men who only wear uber-masculine birch-tar and leather scents may find it too pretty and feminine, but I think it's perfectly middle of the road. On men it smells masculine, whereas on women, it smells feminine. Again, much like Grey Flannel. I will say that if you dislike Grey Flannel, you should really still give this a try. I think it is a great scent that is far superior by utilizing iris instead of violet.

This is great! Wearable, pleasant, unisex. Bright and citrusy in the open, floral in the mid, woody and musky in the base. So, its essentially every fragrance ever made, smoothed out with a high quality blend. Definitely a throwback to the CK Obsession days of the 80s. Well done.

It's interesting, I keep coming back to this & appreciating it. It does have a floral aspect which puts this in unisex territory but not so far that it makes me uncomfortable wearing it. Nothing dominates, it's blended well & has good performance. I'm glad I gave it another chance but if you're expecting it to be like something that's actually from 1988 such as Jazz or Tsar it's not. It does seem to be paying a tribute to those great old-school greens of that time while being rooted in the present. As a fan of old-school greens I can say I'm glad to have this in my collection as it's now discontinued by Floris.

Floris does not disappoint. This is such an elegant, refined take on aromatic fragrances. The rosemary and sage are prominent but softened by iris and rose. The green notes and citrus are refreshing, rather than a punch in the face. Overall, it's a well-crafted fragrance that lasts all day without being fatiguing or too much. Floris 1988 manages to be perfectly unisex. I love it on men or women.

Green galbanum, & rosemary vetiver... It is very green sour 70s blend with rosemary, galbanum, thyme, vetiver, musk, & grapefruit. Later it whiffs between greens. citrus, & woods. I think it is a limited-edition blend! and it is an easy to pull green blend. Nice.
