Chypress

This might be categorized as a Floral Chypre, but it actually wears more like an Amber Floral on me. Amber is the strongest note in this fragrance and the one that last the longest throughout the life of the scent, appearing on first spray with the neroli and citrus opening. It then opens up to a beautiful mélange of flowers, the ylang and rose being the most prominent and the osmanthus adding its usual apricot nuances minus the leathery facets that sometimes accompanies that note. As the base comes more to the fore, it gets a little musky but not powdery with a trace of vanilla and a clean and green barely perceptible patchouli. All the while the amber is always prominently there. Fortunately, unlike some reviewers, I get no soap or shampoo. It really is a lovely scent, but with its heavy amber presence I get a strong association to Atkinson's White Rose de Alix. I believe that fragrance, like this, is also miscategorized as a Floral Chypre when it is actually an Amber Floral. In fact, it reminds me so much of White Rose de Alix that I don't feel the need to add a bottle of this to my wardrobe since the scent difference is so minor as to be negligible. Of course, that is subject to change should White Rose de Alix ever be discontinued, then this would make a fine substitute. In the meantime, the travel sprayer I have will do.

A beautiful, cool and uplifting fragrance. I definitely get the lime pop and then the vanilla, musk, jasmine and osmanthus on the opening. There is a moment when it reminds me of T Mugler Miroir Vanites which I already have and love. There is creaminess from the musk with a touch of sweetness from the vanilla. Gradually the osmanthus fades and you are left with lime, jasmine, musk and a touch of sweet vanilla. I would say it was very unisex. I'm perplexed that anyone sees a similarity with the NR. This lovely has plenty of lime to make it unlike another scent. It lasts a few hours but stays close to the skin for most of the time.

Beautifully blended. I can identify sweet floral notes, the warmth of vanilla, and something balsamic, but nothing stands out much from the others. Citrus normally strikes me first, but in this fragrance, it gives the impression of being the brightest part of the florals. I find it soft but sophisticated enough for almost anywhere during the day, and appropriate for most places at night.

Neroli hit me first. Bergamot, jasmine, then the base notes filled in the gaps. I liked it the first time I wore it. Now I think I love it. It's interesting but not striking in any particular way. It feels familiar without being commonplace. Unlike the other chypres I've tried, it doesn't remind me of Mitsouko or the older relatives who wore it decades ago. This one feels timeless.

Bought a 50 ml bottle of this one after trying a sample, and I love how it smells on me, especially on the dry-down. It projects just enough, and seems to last reasonably well. I have only recently become re-interested in fragrances, and am finding Floris is a good fit for me.

This is absolutely beautiful! A golden hued white floral scent. Osmanthus is quickly becoming a favourite note of mine. Sweet, fleshy, but perfectly behaved. It's not really a chypre in the way you might have expected. I don't get all that much of a mossy feel.

This is one of my favorite fragrances! It is so fresh and citrusy, yet intoxicatingly floral at the same time. You absolutely cannot go wrong with this fragrance unless you are looking for some thing in the Gourmand, warm, woody family.

Probably the best chypre in my collection, I am amazed with this breeze of light, sunny and clean vintage scent. I only wish it was stronger on me, but I don't mind overspraying - does not give me headache when I do, so it's a plus

Breezy and easy-to-love chypre, fresh and clean neroli-forward white florals and musk. In line with NR For Her, but much fresher and soapier. Lasts around 5 hrs on skin, best suited for warm/hot weather.

Beautiful scent with jasmine being the main note on me. Quite soapy and gives a clean feeling.

Such an exquisite example of chypre done well. Quite a complex scent to describe; all 12 of the pyramid notes are noticeable but they're blended together with such craftsmanship from the reliable British house of Floris to create a stunning, signature worthy fragrance. Sunny citrus and bergamot opens the scent. Osmanthus and ylang ylang appear to be the stars, creating warm and woody, yellow floral mid notes with the citrus and a white jasmine note dancing atop. The lightest touch of musk, patchouli and amber add some stability to the base, allowing the osmanthus to shine brightly. There is a wanting for more of a mossy or earthy note here, perhaps I will try layering with Pacific Rock Moss to create something even more magical. Edit: Although this is stunning on its own, layering two sprays Chypress with one spray Pacific Rock Moss is NEXT LEVEL perfection.

Soapy neroli forward chypre. White floral jasmine heart and a soft musky base. Easy to wear especially in high heat. I really like this. Good lasting power as well. Edit; bought a FB. Been buying a lot of FB from Floris. Love this house. So does my husband. Elegant, quality all the way. I don't get why their fragrances get a lot of hate on here. But I think a lot of people have broken noses from the never ending gourmand craze that they don't know good fragrances when they smell them.

[JULY 2023] Lime-bergamot osmanthus-jasmine(very faint) vanilla, and it's that bergamot-vanilla combo that keeps me coming back to Floris' Chypress. Tart, distinguished, soapy, breezy. A soap with a scent of Chypress is a very high quality soap indeed. Great to pair with my Casamorati Dolce Almafi, Roger and Gallet Fleur d'Amour for extra zesty citrus twang.

Delicate yet strong; sweet and soft, powdery soapy-chypre scent. It’s not unusual and you most likely smelled something similar somewhere already. I’d say that just as Jasmine Rouge by TF it can be overpowering so don’t overspray it. For a blind buy I’m happy especially that it’s got great potential to layer it with ultra-masculine ozonic scents. 7/10

My mum’s new signature. I love NR For Her, so I naturally like this too (they’re very similar). I would still choose NR over Chypress. Chypress definitely has a soapy overtone to my nose, which isn’t a bad thing but not so me. Overall, this is classic, refined and feminine.

Don’t love it yet, needs some time, but this is strong stuff IMO. It also stays a while with you. Especially when you spray on your clothes a bit. If the movie Scarface had a scent, it would smell like this. A vintage and rich smell.

Not impressive in terms of longevity/sillage but lovely scent all the same.

I’m obsessed with the Floris perfume house because of their light , floral scents , so well crafted and ideal for summer . I just blind bought this and Floris Edwardian Bouquet and to my dismay I find both very masculine . More so , of the latter with its predominant moss notes . I’m going to give both to my hubby cause as much as I don’t want the fragrances representing me , I do love smelling them on my man .

Blind buy hoping for osmanthus. Nope, no single molecule detected. But has lots of muscatchouli instead. It could easily be a flanker of Rodriguez for Her (in a pink bottle). Slightly toned down but still very very similar.

I come back and forth to Chypress. I like it, but I do not love it. It is so well-done, the bottle is so ergonimic in my hand, the classic Brittish perfume house has its own influence on my senses, making it impossible to remove from my Collection. It is fresh, like a chilly breeze on a Cold cloudy day. Osmanthus is very promissing, as well as the ylang-ylang. Despite such "yellow flowers", it is still a chypre, with musk and bergamote. Well-worth sampling for sure. I find that it leans a bit feminine, even though it is marketed as an unisex frag. For me, it has the same vibe as Guerlain Idylle.
