JF

I am a 30Y.O. male and I've tried this at a Floris store, on my upper arm (as my lower arm and palm were already trying out Floris Jermyn Street and 71/72). The opening was great - fresh and clean, citrusy. However, in 10~15 minutes or so, it became something familiar in a dishonorable way. It was a cleaning product. Just general cleaning product, or an air freshener you'd possibly come across in a cab. At that point, I got a 30ml (since they were out of 50ml) of 71/72 and left the store. However, they gave me a discovery set upon the purchase and it included JF again. I gave it another go and wow, that cleaning product-like dry down I experienced was...gone. It's as if it was a different perfume. I actually suspect it might have been due to the long exposure to sunlight - the store windows were big, and had sunlight coming in, the bottles on display almost constantly under exposure. Light definitely isn't good for any perfume product. I really love nice hotel lobby fragrances - the expensive resort hotels. To me, it reminds me of the many holiday trips I went with my parents and friend's families, as we used to live in South East Asia with a lot of these hotels. Nostalgic, the joy and excitement of the fun that follows after checking-in, and just generally sophisticated and clean as a scent. It would be nice to be unique, but I'm not one to dwell too much on it that it takes away the true value I see in a perfume - to smell good and enjoy the fragrance. As an adult, I do link it strongly to a modern tailor's shop - clean crispness with a hint of something a tiny bit sweet. I love wearing suits to the point my favorites are all bespoke, and it makes me feel like I've walked out of a tailor's with a brand new tailored suit. The dry down keeps the clean-ness up and it's beautiful. The only regret is longevity - it's not terrible, but on me, it lasts up to about 3 hours and by the 4th hour, moving about doesn't emit the smell any more and I need to put my nose fairly close to the skin. They only have an EDT so I was hoping there would be an EDP at some point if at all longevity would improve. I see many comments on how it's possibly an obsolete scent, but I don't really see that. It might not be a "young" scent, say for teens or early 20s (though nothing will stop you from pulling it off) however, I don't really imagine this being anachronistic even today. Classical music, fashion, and scent would always have its place. For the sake of comparison, 71/72 started off great but it ended up a tad too sweet and stuffy for me although, my two male mates that were there were split between JF and 71/72. One of them thought 71/72 was more "classy." Bought a full bottle at 100ml and I'm happy with it. I agree it's a spring/summer scent due to the fresh/clean nature of the scent, but I don't see anyone going "that' unacceptable" even in winter.

Update 9/2/2022: I had been provided a couple of testers directly from Floris when I purchased something else from them and I found those samples to be much better than the sample from a third party I reviewed two years ago. So much so that I bought a half bottle directly from Floris, and a few things stand out...performance of this fragrance is actually very good. I applied at 8am this morning and it is now 5pm and I can still smell it on myself. And where CW is quite synthetic, JF feel much more natural and not quite as aquatic. I still think GIT is the best of the three at least in the way that I believe it smells the most natural and least synthetic, but JF is a close second at a fraction of the cost. CW is MUCH cheaper, but one has to deal with the synthetic nature of CW. All this to say...I quite like the current version of JF that I bought directly from Floris. Let me open by saying that I am a huge fan of Floris and I own several fragrances of theirs... Opens EXACTLY like GIT or CW as others have already stated dozens of times. Unlike CW or GIT, the opening fades fast and there is almost nothing left to smell after 5 minutes other than a clean, soapy scent. And because I wore CW as a teenager, this makes me think I am 16 years old again. Between the age-mismatch and total performance collapse after 5 minutes, this is an easy pass.

While searching for a "signature" scent for myself, and after sampling about a dozen different fragrances from various houses, Floris' JF EDT stood head and shoulders above the rest. I wanted a scent for the office that did not overpower or offend, but rather presented itself only when in close proximity to others. With crisp citrus opening notes, warm and pleasing heart notes, and round base notes, JF fit the bill perfectly. The scent does not last the entire workday, but some people can live with that. After wearing this out for the first time, I realized that JF also instills a real sense of confidence in the wearer. You'll begin carrying yourself with more self-assurance and others will notice your demeanor more than the fragrance itself. A lot of times, that's more important. I now look forward to applying JF every morning because it makes me feel like a million bucks.

I bought this knowing full well that it has been compared to Green Irish Tweed and Cool Water, and it's a DNA that I like. It's really not much like GIT at all, which has that grassy opening that turns into an iris/violet/lavender scent that is full and round. It is very much like a more muted, elegant CW with a more fresh water vibe than salt water. The florals are slightly different. But I could see it being mistaken for CW. If you want to save money and don't mind a more synthetic feel and less longevity, just go with CW. If I had spent full retail for JF I'd be a bit disappointed. But I got a tester for a very reasonable price and find myself wanting to reach for it all the time. Since it's not a loud fragrance it is a great easy reach if you do not want to offend. GIT is king in my books, and I'd put this square between GIT and Cool Water.

The opening of Floris JF is pretty sharp citrus. Citrus note passes through quickly and it becomes a little warmer and somehow reminds me of clean laundry. Some may say it's soapy but the bitterness and oak moss note behind the main accord keeps me wondering if I should consider it's soapy. The wood note and floral note are quite interestingly blended. I couldn't distinguish individual note mentioned above. After 5-7 hours for me, it becomes very understated musky note. One of my friends considered JF a masculine scent, also very gentle, warm and firm. Another friend said he cannot stand the "bitterness" in the smell and the smell made him feel it's "old". Anyway, I personally love this scent and think it's a classy also unique one. Worth trying but I would not recommend blind-buying since I got complete different opinions.

Like woodz71 I ordered from Floris London as a sale is on and bought it along with Elite. Received it today so here are my first impressions. Bear in mind I bought this blind - brave! At first I thought "Do I like this....or not?" So I had another sniff,... then another and another and now I cant stop sniffing! Huge burst of citrus smacks you in the face but in a good way. Then a lovely petitgrain/cypress comes through. Only had it on a short while so cannot comment yet on the base notes. You can tell some proper 'learned over many years know how' goes into this. I think I'll end up loving this. I don't think this is for your average 'CK' person who buys the oh so generic scents (although admittedly I have a couple), more for a connoisseur. Classy, elegant stuff.

9.3/10 Right, so I've got this on my right wrist and green Irish tweed on my left. The primary difference between the two is that JF has a lot more citrus going on, the lemon in JF shines through the green. In GIT however, there is no perceptible citrus, instead the green is right at the front, very herbaceous and natural smelling. Because of the citrus in JF, it's much sweeter than GIT. Overall GIT is a green ozonic fragrance all the way through, whereas JF only has that in the opening, then it dries down to a classic lemony scent. GIT is also just stronger in general. So the only similarity between the two is the opening. Both are top tier.

I had the good fortune to discover this in Autumn 1994 before I smelled Cool Water. I had no idea JF was a masculine, and just loved it straight away. The cypress, cedar and amber combine with restrained florals to make a slightly sweet, mossy cologne, which will define Autumn for me for life. It's perfect office wear for men, and if you're Ali McGraw in New York in a great scarf and leather jacket, this is very stylish. I've now smelled Cool Water which of course, feels like a budget version, much more ozonic. Floris was there first and to me it's the better, more refined recipe. JF makes me feel good, walking in the copper beech woods :)

Clearly similar to Cool Water for Men, but a bit simpler and more focused. There's no note clash here, as I find with CW, and it has a powdery, "clean" musk element that I don't remember in any formulation of CW that I've tried. Still, it's not my favorite composition, and I wish the dihydromyrcenol usage was dialed back considerably. However, as it develops, it's a lot more balanced, but it's also more or less unisex. I can't see myself wearing this more than once every couple of years, so I'm inclined to swap off my bottle, though that's the case with a whole bunch, as I try to "consolidate" somewhat.

Very high end & classy! I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend and I just adore the cypress-oak moss scent. I was looking for a product with moss because that note smells like a million bucks. I tried a ton of them ( a lot smelled old timey, if you know what I mean)but nothing measured up to Floris' JF version and I fell in love on the spot. This is the winner. A bonus is that it also smells young and fresh due to the perfect touch of citrus. It's a sexy, young, get up and go scent that is perfect. Smells like a confident, young looking intellectual.

I love the way this smells. I do wish it were offered in a stronger concentration but still it’s a good one. I may like this more than GIT or CW though I own them all. Perhaps this style speaks to when your tastes “came of age” (1992 release) but I can live with that. The point is too smell good.

I love this scent. I agree that it smells like Creed Green Irish Tweed, but I think it smells even more like Bond No. 9 Chez Bond, since it has a slightly sweeter candy-like scent, where GIT seems to have a deeper greener scent. GIT, Chez Bond, or this - love them all.

This smells great, I just wish they'd offer it in EDP concentration. I feel the same way about Floris Elite. Honestly, if they were stronger/longer lasting they'd probably be my two favorites. Still, great scent.

Fresher and more energetic younger brother to GIT in my opinion. A bit shy though so don’t expect great sillage or longevity.

What a fool I was to think that I'd be done with this bunch after Cool Water, Green Irish Tweed, Truefitt Freshman, and Caswell-Massey Greenbriar! This one opens with smoother, gentler (more Gendarme-like) sweet watery florals, compared to the sometimes surprising sharpness of Cool Water. It very quickly develops the same golden Burberry Original-type herbs that are in Freshman, and in fact I almost get to the point of not distinguishing JF from Freshman. I think, however, that this one has more clear, sweet florals in it, presenting an almost unisex rendition of this popular scent family; any woman who likes Cool Water on men might like this on men or on herself. I think that this aspect makes for a fascinating twist, and at the same time makes for a phase of the scent that I'd rather skip. Whatever is in that set of herbs that they're using, makes me think of wintergreen a little bit, and not fondly...an all-too-common occurrence. Fortunately that note backs off a bit by the end, reverting back to something very close to Cool Water, and Freshman doesn't do this as much. I still think that Greenbriar is the most balanced of these, but JF comes out pretty well in the end also, though very Cool Water-like.

This was the first real fragrance I ever bought for myself, from the Floris perfumery in London. As such, I find it a comforting scent, but beyond the nostalgia I can recognize that this is actually quite an aloof perfume. Lime and coriander are the main top notes, and wormwood, oakmoss and juniper give a cold and bitter, almost sterile greenness. Despite the inclusion of citrus, it's not a very "fun" fragrance - its scent conjures images of tense white collar workers on their morning commutes, trudging through the cold London drizzle to their offices. Although austere, the fragrance is invigorating and refined, and would be suitable for any man (or woman, albeit probably only ones who wear pantsuits) looking to underscore their professionalism at the workplace or business events. I think it can sensibly be worn all year round, though I have noticed that wearing it in warmer weather brings out the brightness of the lime a bit more, as well as a not entirely unpleasant sunscreen-y aroma.

Like many others I perceive JF as Floris version of Cool Water, and since I'm not a Cool Water fan in the first place this review could have ended here. But to me, JF is a clear improvement of the "original". I usually have problems with the artificial aquatic note so significant in CW, but also in e.g. Aqua di Gio. In JF this note is rounded off and I think that the inclusion of cypress is just an excellent move. JF is summer in Italy, a hot summer day in a park in Rome. A wonderful kick-start of green bergamot slowly shifting to more and more Cool Water resemblance. But instead of the aquatic note dominance in Cool Water cypress, jasmine and, I think, oak moss steps in and creates wonders in JF. JF is clearly, to my nose, the best fragrance in the "Cool Water family" I have encountered so far, alongside the first twenty minutes of Green Irish Tweed

This is an excellent fragrance. I do not think this smells like GIT or CW, GIT dries down to a creamy sandalwood base and on top you have lots of violet. CW on the other hand becomes aquatic/salty in the dry down. I would say it is closer to the vintage CW bottles of the early 90's. This stays citrus and light floral but never becomes creamy which i found in GIT. Perfect classy year round fragrance. With 5-6 sprays i get 6- 8 hours every time, It is an EDT, so lets not expect GIT performance of 12 hours since that one is a true EDP. But i cannot justify GIT prices. JF is the perfect one for me. This is signature scent worthy very under rated scent. (this is my second review after a few years of wearing)

I like this scent alot. It's a very classy smell It reminds me alot of green irish tweed from creed. But here it's a little more muskier, and the amber is alot less, and a little more floral and less green. overall you can't go wrong with this scent, it is quite expensive and you do pay a little extra for Floris, after all they are quite high end fragrance house. A nice floral green fresh gentlemens scent. sillage is average people around you will smell it on you. and the scent lasts between 6-8 hours. (with 6 sprays) scent 8/10

Remarkably similar to 1994's shower gel style Façonnable for men with a nod to Green Irish Tweed. Very pleasant and should not ruffle any feathers, but not really niche quality and nothing ground-breaking. Can be purchased for a decent price at discounters, but like some reviewers have said, is it really necessary? Love this house but JF is unexceptional, hence the high number of "likes" and not "loves".

Great signature scent. This falls into the year round workhorse fragrance category. It really is virtually identical to Chez Bond but this one came out years before the Bond. It is not an inexpensive fragrance but is much cheaper than Chez Bond. It is sweeter than GIT.

Effectively a more expensive, fruitier version of Davidoff cool water, pleasant, inoffensive but way overpriced in my opinion. Just buy cool water. Smells virtually the same but you get far more bang for your buck.

Nice fresh lime scent, Its a good soapy fragrance but wearing it would give me a headache

I picked this up as part of the 5-sample "Jermyn Street Collection" from Floris. I get "sparkling aldehydes" and bright citrus in the opening accompanied by mild soapiness. Very lemon and lime. Clean and fresh. It definitely smells of its era (1992). This is also very mildly sweet and warm. I get some aromatic qualities but my nose can't identify specifics. The aromatics and the citrus could almost read as gin and tonic. There is also a bit of a floral note but it's quite subdued. In the dry down this loses most of the citrus, and most of everything else, leaving mostly just the aldehydic qualities and maybe the musk. There are lots of reviews that make comparisons to cool water, but I haven't smelled that in years so I can't say. Compared to Green Irish Tweed, I don't make the same connection but I can understand it. There is an "sparkling aldehydic" quality to both. Overall, this is fine. I'm certainly not going to seek out a full bottle, but I enjoy it.

This is my first experience with the house of Floris and I would say this is a solid MEH! I did give it a "OK" due to performance and there is some quality to the juice. I also take into account this was formulated in the early 1990's. Fragrances of that day were very different than now. This is a very straight forward juice from start to finish. Citrusy and very GREEN to my nose. This is similar in the start to Trefle Pur by Atelier Cologne but only in the first 15 minutes. The TP is much smoother towards the middle and dry down. I don't find it similar to GIT or Cool Water. IMO this is a sample first. I did get this for a fair price so I am now complaining. Enjoy!

Green apple should be a note here, and frankly you could delete a handful of the notes above, as I don't smell any clary sage, wormwood, or ambergris, and listing Amalfi lemon and petitgrain is dubious. Massive green apple note, some lime-like citrus, watery florals, coriander, and woods on a white musk base, and you have JF. There's something in the interplay of coriander and musk that smells a bit "off" to me, which is why even though I only have a 50 ml bottle, I'm only halfway through it after four years.

JF is an oddly refocused interpretation of Cool Water, with the opening citrus and apple accord of dihydromyrcenol intensified, yet it's followed by a relatively weak and noncommittal drydown. There's a weird coriander off-note tucked in there that smells a bit stinky to me, and it's especially unpleasant in the first thirty minutes of wear. Eventually it fades back, but I'm still not wild about the fragrance. Smells okay I guess, but doesn't have the staying power to impress. Too bad.

I has been bugging me all day. I sprayed some JF on today from a gift sized bottle and instantly knew it reminded me of something else. I came onto Fragrantica to find out and yes a lot of people have nailed it...Davidoff Blue Water. I used to love this when I was a teenager a long time ago, which is why I couldn't remember how I knew the smell.

See atxwatch's review below. I got the same impression. Starts off super close to GIT but not nearly as good, but after an hour the scent is gone. All that lasts is a memory of how nice you smelled 61 minutes ago. Scent: 8.7/10 Longevity: 2.5/10 Overall: 5.6/10

I got a sample, but there is some sour tinge in the drydown that I really don't like. It smells kind of like an old dishrag? Really sad because the opening is great.

Can't tell this from Cool Water. Moderate projection. 3/5 at best.

Essentially, Floris JF is a Creed Green Irish Tweed clone. It has the same synthetic underarm deodorant, laundry detergent, cheap shower gel and chlorine smell to it, like Creed Green Irish Tweed. Since I can't stand GIT, I can't appreciate JF either unfortunately. Basically, this is an overpriced Cool Water or a more affordable version of GIT. Final score: 2/10.

Initial spray: Furniture polish, floor cleaner, etc. Absolutely did not like this at all. Dry down: A very high end furniture polish or floor cleaner. Thankful I only bought a sample. Very much not my cup of tea. I want to like Floris more than I like Floris.

At the opening smells like green Irish tweet, after 30 or 45 minutes the scent changes to a citrus bathroom cleaner or citrus air freshener. I bought it from allbeauty at 60% off so not really complaining, I guess there’s a reason why some fragrances are heavily discounted. This was a blind buy based on the reviews. Again very nice smell at the beginning, citrusy fresh , but at the dry down smell just like a cleaning product to me. Sorry I wanted to like it

A “prestigious” house that makes perfume for the royal family with the british luxurious heritage blabla thing that makes a clone of Cool Water that costs 5 times more, lasts 5 times less and projects 5 meters less. Good Job Floris.

Gentleman Cologne.... Woody citrus blend that is labelled "for men" kind of blend. It's like a barbershop cologne that is concentrated on cypress, coriander, & petitgrain which formed the green aromatic alongside bergamot, basil, cedar, juniper berries, lemon, & touch of mandarin all above a base of musky wormwood. It is a gentleman cologne that i can see men above 40 would easily wear when they are into classics and not much caring about fragrances, or let's say, would only wear a sophisticated & standard barbershop gentlemen cologne... OR A fierce under 30 stud who knows how a real man would smell would wear this blend... but don't get me wrong, this is just a very standard barbershop men cologne that isn't favoured anymore since it doesn't have that enormous silage that everybody nowadays is running after, and i believe Floris has a MUCH BETTER classics for gentlemen that tops this blend centuries away which i am going to review soon after this blend, but i can't deny that "JF" is quite a good blend for those who wants personalized gentlemen fragrance that hugs the wearer and settles to half meter aura that only hugs those who gets up-close, but not that classic like the 1920s, or 1980s classics! it is from the 90s so it has that clean touch added to it since that era was the clean bubbly Lenon era . Nice.

I agree, Floris JF does smell a lot like Davidoff Cool Water. Not that I mind, as I enjoy both of them. Even though I had to apply Floris JF to my skin to review it, I must admit that this is an extremely masculine fragrance. It's quite sharp and fiercely aromatic. I would prefer to smell this on a man's skin rather than my own. Floris JF opens with lots of citrus and a sharp green accord. When I breathe in I can almost taste the bitter grass note on my soft palate. I really like that this fragrance packs a punch. I would not classify this fragrance as a chypre, instead I would call it a green aromatic. It also has a slight oceanic feel, brought about by the cypress and lime notes. Despite its boldness, Floris JF is still relatively easy to wear. It would really suit the warmer months. Because Floris JF has a somewhat classic feel, it would suit more mature men. I really can't picture a teenager wearing this, but then again I may be proven wrong one day. The longevity is great, with the sillage equally as pleasing. I recommend.

Ok let's put this to bed. It is like GIT but better. The problem with these freshie aquatics is they wear you rather than the other way round. However Floris the tasteful London based perfumers have produced something more subtle slightly musky with average longevity leaning masculine but a lady could pull it off. That said unless you totally love it I could not countenance paying full price. I bought it for 55% discount. I should say that the aftershave is staggering. Its probably my favourite unless I am feeling really playful then I love Phoenix and Beau Spitfire aftershave which is petrol and grease . It seems the aftershave -and another reviewer mentioned shower gel- are not just more dilute but the formulation is different. Apart from Elite I would not really bother with the rest of Floris. I find them lacking . Even 007 is tedious orange amber. That's it. Back to JF: aftershave: just buy it you will be finding excuses to sniff your hands all day-- cologne: get it cheap and enjoy it in the hot weather.

I see this as a lighter version of Green Irish Tweed and Cool Water. Floris JF does not come off as green or soapy (or aquatic) as those, but I can obviously pick up the similarities. I also pick up the wormwood (and cypress), which gives it an earthy or herbal feel. Overall performance is moderate/average. This would be great for the office, as it's inoffensive and light, giving off an air of freshness with a vintage vibe, as it does have oakmoss and those herbal notes I mentioned. The citruses are quite light, which is a disappointment for me. I got my partial bottle for a low price, and I can't justify paying full price for this one. I understand the quality and reputation of Floris, but anyone who wants the best version of this type should just get GIT. You'd be close with Cool Water at a very cheap price (just one or two sprays), or any of the many GIT clones (such as Tres Nuit or Egra Men) would be fine as a cheaper alternative that gets you close. Nice fragrance, but nothing special.

A frag which is a replica of Davidoff Cool Water, though it is a tad more refined.. I applied 6 heavy sprays 0 - 30 secs - Alcohol and chemicals 30 secs - 10 mins - 1 foot projection - The scent materialises after 30 seconds and soon a soapy-aqua cool water appears 10 mins - 2 hours - There is 20% more refinement in this frag over Cool Water but it is not a patch on Creed Green Irish Tweed, so it is perhaps somehwere in between those 2 fragrances 2 hour s- 4 hours. 4 inch projection with occasional 1 foot sillage trails. 4 hours - 6 hours 2 inch projection This has less performance than Cool Water but is more expensive so I would buy Davidoff instead. I think this will appeal to lovers of Cool Water and those which smell the same, as it will offer some differences but overall for my personal taste, they are so similar that if you have one then you don't really need the other Not bad

If we're going to call fragrances clones left and right, it's worth being accurate about what they actually resemble. Cool Water is aquatic, GIT is green, and Floris JF leans citrusy and creamy. If anything, it reminds me more of Chez Bond, though even that comparison only goes so far. Ultimately, this is a fragrance that stands comfortably on its own. It starts out with a blast of citrus of which the mandarin orange stands out the most to my nose. Soon enough the jasmine and petitgrain come out, sitting on a woody & musky base. It stays fairly linear, good longevity (~8hr), moderate projection. Perfect for the office in spring and summer as it portrays the image of stability and maturity. Very nice, 8.5/10

Refreshing fougère... At first I found this one old-fashioned. I don't know why but I did. However I now know that it is a very safe example of a traditional masculine fougère fragrance. It has the fresh top, mossy herbal middle and woody base. I get dried herbs and fresh citrus to begin with. Then you have the florals, mosses etc. followed by dry cedar and woods at the base. A really great, traditional masculine fragrance. I would suggest it for most occasions, but mostly work and formal events. Not ground-breaking but very nice and traditional. Has a sense of security and dependability to it. Great for a well groomed, relaxed man. Old school traditional but modern at the same time. Not bad!

I read a comparison to Floor Cleaner. Now that is what I have experienced with Davidoff Cool Water. Horrible experience. I was doing my Sunday morning 6 km run, but had to return after 10 minutes to take a shower. Meaning 20 minutes of pure suffering. Very good strong fragrance and Aftershave (I had both on). It was like the scent was right in front of me. I have been rejecting every single fragrance that, according to Fragraticaers, have any similaratie with it. Including Green Irish Tweed. Even if I have tons of experience with not agreeing with reviewers here. I love Floris but I will skip this one.

I was exploring a couple Floris frags. Santal, which I liked, a warm yet fresh woody fragrance. So just got my JF sample, and its a no for me. It does smell like Cool Water, but Cool Water is nicer, more mature. JF has a sweet candy aroma, which makes it to imature for me, reminding me of Lalique White in that respect. Maybe a good choice for someone in there 20's perhaps. So it's kind of shallow for me, even for a fresh fragrance. Rating: 7/10 God bless. John 3:16

seems like many agree with the cool water connection. and like many here i think the quality of jf is more refined and natural. wonder if it has much to do with the juniper berries. its a pleasing aquatic green scent that i can easily go to on any day. big thumbs up! well done floris
