Petals From My Garden

I'm almost embarrassed to be reviewing this, because there is so little of it around. Few people will get to experience it. I knew nothing about Petals From My Garden until I saw it last week on Fragrantica's list of Floris scents. I went on eBay and someone was selling 5ml decants. I immediately placed an order, which came yesterday. In the meantime I read further down Fragrantica's description and see there were only 50 bottles ever made. So my review is mostly to any Floris employees who happen to be reading this. Why aren't you producing Petals From My Garden and other supremely wearable perfumes for the general public instead of some of the bizarre, unwearable hideously expensive stuff you've brought out in the last 10 years? I just saw the box for the Amaryllis I bought when it first came out which was horrible. And sure enough I wasn't the only one who thought so, because it was discontinued rather soon afterwards. And there were other ones. It has to be costly to produce such blunders. Petals From My Garden may seem common to some, and the description appears to emphasize that a child dreamed it up, but there is nothing childish about this perfume at all. It's both light and complex, and I love the geranium added to the rose and carnation. I'd love it if Floris brought back the real geranium scent they used to make, and not just the body oil and soap they sell now (if they still do sell it). Floris does geranium like no one else. And Floris, please return to your middle class roots and stop selling all those huge 3.4oz bottles few people can afford. Working women in the 1950's and 1960's used to be able to buy your perfumes widely, and now no one can afford to. Floris has disappeared from the US market almost as fast as Caron has, and it's a shame. How much market do you really think there is for $235 perfumes and how many $235 Floris perfumes do you think most women will be able to justify buying? Do you really think the average customer wants a big bottle when he or she can buy a smaller bottle and consider getting a second smaller bottle sometime soon? And then compare how little Floris advertises with how much big perfumeries advertise in magazines, US and UK. How long do you think the average perfume buyer will even remember that Floris exists? There really are fewer rich people than middle class people. And I've heard it said that rich people actually buy fewer luxury goods, including perfume, than middle class people. Something like "regular people buy clothes; rich people have clothes."
