Purple Mémoire

Looks like i am the first to review this very lovely lavender fragrance. The above accords are not very accurate. This is a very true lavender. I've been wearing this now since last night and the lavender never fades. It isn't really a violet or iris fragrance. There are touches of violet, iris, vanilla, sandalwood, spice, etc... but the lavender is the true star of the show. Purple Memoire has the elegance of Blocki This Grand Affair but it is much more lavender heavy. And it doesn't have the excessive and quite distracting heavy mandarin orange that original Mon Guerlain has, ( I own the Bloom of Rose Parfum flanker which is more rose than lavender with pear, citrus and vanilla.)While I liked both those perfumes very much I didn't pull the trigger on either because This Grand Affair lacked the amount of lavender I wanted and Mon guerlain was a bit to sweet. Purple Memoire is extremely well blended and quite frankly the best new lavender/vanilla combo I have smelled. My favorite lavender fragrance is Jean Patou Ma Librete Floris Purple Memoire is my 2nd. Very good sillage, projection but it exudes a quiet elegance that Floris is known for. If you love lavender like I do but find it difficult to find really elegant and unisex maybe lean feminine lavender that would work in any situation or occasion (I would wear this to a wedding) give Floris Purple Memoire a try. FB worthy. Ps I preordered a decant. I also really liked Chanel Jersey but I didn't pull the trigger even though it is an excellent fragrance and a really good lavender/vanilla combo. For some reason Purple Memoire just tugs at my heart strings. It has just the right touch of sweetness to be charming and approachable but it is still very elegant. Really well crafted. Edit: I own YSL Libre Intense a gift from my husband and Libre toilette. Personally I find the intense more orange and vanilla heavy with lavender being a background player and the toilette is very jasmine,;tea, and citrus/orange blossom heavy. I personally prefer the toilette (my husband absolutely loves the Intense) but as for lavender/vanilla goes purple Memoire the best new 21st century one I've smelled and I've tried the Burberry Goddess line as well. The original of that line is ok but trust me for really elegant but easy to wear approach to this genre Purple Memoire is better than the rest that I have mentioned.

Love this new unisex lavender focused EDP! The lavender flower is the star and the other notes in the pyramid support it. It is refreshing, smooth, and elegant -- appropriate for all occasions. A must for lavender lovers!

I agree with @LSAUG below on everything except Purple Memoire having prominent vanilla and being a feminine fragrance. Lavender is the star, to the extent that the Lavender accord listed at the very bottom of the accord stack above should be moved to the very top. And Lavender is the one flower which masculine perfumery co-opted from the ladies. Lavender is essential to the fougere, a masculine genre. But Purple Memoire certainly is NOT a Fougere. But the prominent, raw herbal lavender skews the reserved floral mid and whole scent profile toward unisex. I'm a dude, and lavender is my favorite note. I have lavender scents ranging from my large Aromatic Fougere collection, to Un Pour Homme de Caron, the men's formulation of the vintage 1930's/40's/50's Yardley's English Lavender - the same one adapted as a signature scent by Frank Sinatra (the contemporary female-targeted version has its jasmine note amplified on par with the lavender, skewing the scent to the feminine), Lavender on the Rocks by Atkinsons, Oxford & Cambridge Eau de Parfum by Czech & Speake, Chanel Boy, to my favorite non-Fougere lavender-dominant scent, Serge Lutens Gris Clair. Purple Memoire has its prominent lavender softened by the florals, creamy amber and sandalwood, mild sweetness of the cocao, tonka, and amber, and slight powderiness of the Iris ("Powdery" should not be listed as the second-most prominent accord, as its mild). The violet, no doubt, contributes to the purple color impression of the scent profile. All of this wrapped in the characteristic reserved, understated performance of Floris scents. Quintessentially English. all very well blended. Full bottle worthy.

Well blended. Got me surprised. On skin, it smells lavender with more warm ambery vanilla but the sillage is sooooo beautiful, and airy.

Disappointing. I was expecting a vibrant lavender violet scent, and instead got a muddled powdery scent that didn't even smell like lavender, much less violet. I can't even figure out what they were trying to do, and why they wimped out. Floris used to make wonderful, vibrant floral scents and since they trade in historical references I would hope they still kept their old books and could produce one again. (Their "ledger series" promotion can't just be empty words.) Floris' current Santal Intense offering is very vibrant, so the impetus must still be there. A good perfume name wasted too. No one who has memories of purple flowers, or perfumes made with purple flowers, thinks of this one.

It's really not far from smelling a vial of Lavender 40/42. Lavender is of course a beautiful smell and they have given it an incredible longevity in this fragrance. Floris are not afraid to let a single note totally dominate a fragrance and if you want to smell like lavender, this is a 10/10.

Not bad fragrance for the home. It smells like violets. More feminine than masculine.

Purple Mémoire is quite an interesting fragrance for those looking for a modern take on lavender with a touch of sweet lactonic softness, powderiness, and smokiness. The scent opens with a very natural, fresh lavender, yet without sharp terpene or camphor facets. The lavender here leans semi-gourmand: slightly sweet, milky-cocoa-powdery, lactonic, tinted with iris and violet, and clearly adapted toward a feminine audience. Though I’d say it reads fully unisex. Closest to Mon Guerlain, Twilight/Sleepy by Lush, and Rochas Man. What sets it apart from those is this: imagine adding a hint more soft smokiness to Mon Guerlain, created by an amber-woody component - just a trace. It doesn’t stick out or overwhelm; instead, it adds a warm, slightly salty-amber, faintly smoky nuance. It’s not sharp or briny. Most users likely won’t even notice it consciously. So this feels like a rare case where such a modern amber-woody note is used sparingly and appropriately. If this smoky amber effect were done in a more classical way, it would resemble Lavande by Molinard, where the base is built in the style of Pour Un Homme/Shalimar through a traditional vanilla-balsamic structure. The sweetness is no higher than in typical modern sweet masculine fragrances, but the powdery softness nods toward feminine compositions. On the Floris website, the fragrance is listed exclusively in the women’s section though. The fragrance feels classic without being heavy-handed, with no aggressive projection, it’s more cocooning, soft, and fluffy. At the same time, it’s entirely modern, without overt retro references. The iris-violet facet is weightless, never dusty. The lavender isn’t sharp or mothball-like, but cozy and dusky, somewhat echoing Twilight by Lush. For Floris, this is a strong addition - noble, conceptual, and well-crafted. It doesn’t resemble Tom Ford’s Lavender Extreme, which is fresher and veers into almost cloying coconut tones. Nor is it like Pour Un Homme de Caron, where the lavender is more natural, essential-oil-like, richer and more intense, transitioning into a balsamic vanilla base. In Purple Mémoire, the lavender is softer at the start and evolves into a powdery lactonic accord with hints of cocoa and smokiness. Longevity is very good - around 9 hours. Projection is moderate and well-mannered. A high-quality composition with carefully balanced elements. Plenty of lavender. It doesn’t disappear after 20 minutes like something like Gucci Moonlight Serenade; it holds its presence confidently. The overall impression is more perfumery-driven than purely naturalistic. It is not about spring or summer freshness here; the fragrance leans more toward evening wear or colder seasons - something cozy, like a blanket and a cup of velvety cocoa. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys lavender interpreted in a soft, warm, slightly smoky and balsamic way.

Best lavender on the market for women right now. 10/10. The smell of an all too brief English summer and the meloncholic longing for just a few more warm days in September at its end. The name is perfect. Top of my wishlist. Well done Floris - great execution on the scent concept, marketing, and the brand fit. Wistfulness bottled.
