Wilde

Wilde by Floris is quite lovely. It's distinctive and different to anything else I've encountered fragrance wise. It's probably not an everyman/woman fragrance but it's definitely got a little something about it that is so very appealing. This is probably a sampler, exactly how I discovered it when one was included with my last Floris purchase. It's delicate but somehow quite powerful for a Floris! I wear no.89 often as it's truly one of the best scents in all of perfumery in my book, but Wilde is definitely a worthy stablemate for the days when you want something striking while still coming across as gentle and timeless. It's a neat trick and one the perfumer has pulled off beautifully. It's a lovely blend of citrus, florals, spice and a salty sea note, with a mildly resinous, woody base. I imagine the marine nuance is what gives this scent something distinctive! It's sounds a little complex but it's actually quite a linear scent that pops off of the skin around arms length for a good 2-3 hours before coming in a little closer for a few more. The sillage is good, possibly because it's unlike anything else you and others would normally encounter. I'll wear it with a jeans and T shirt but will happily throw on a pair of Loakes and a sports jacket and head out for a meeting, event or dinner with just a little respray. It's in no way offensive and very adaptable. The theme of this scent is of course Oscar Wilde, a very dandy fellow. This scent does absolutely encapsulate that feeling beautifully, it's also just well rounded enough for everyday use too. I'm not a compliment chaser but people have occasionally made pleasant remarks when I opt for this scent. As most of us know, compliments aren't generally forthcoming despite what the fragrance reviewers continue to spew out! So overall, Wilde is an absolute unsung gem. It's fairly well performing, classic but individual and worthy of a place in any collection for people above 30 most likely. Wear anytime and anywhere, this is easily a scent that's stylish enough to pull off in any situation, highly recommended.

Easy going, fresh aromatic scent with good longevity, projection and silage (not sure why people are saying they can't smell it, maybe questionable samples?). The comparison to some of the CK fragrances below is somewhat relevant but this is really good quality entry to mid-level niche, so not quite a cheapy by smell. It's the same ozonic-aquatic-green cucumber type of freshness with some florals and ginger, as some other fragrances attempted (like Nautica Voyage) but done right. I say, sample it. Not your typical Floris that tend to be austere and stuffy, I think this one has a wider demographic reach but, perhaps, not as refined and distinguished as some hard core Floris followers would like it to :)

Green Carnation. After about half an hour, when different notes struck me first, they all came together into this spicy, green, floral profile. It kept changing slightly over the next few hours, staying more floral or more sweetly spicy, before ending up a bit more resinous. Today, it reminded me of an old-fashioned candy for a while. The way it evokes different feelings and recombines them is entrancing, like Wilde himself. I put it on late in the day and didn't try to remove it before bed. The next day, the warm base notes are still noticeable on my skin. That inspired me to amend the longevity to "eternal."

beautiful fragrance imo. saw a review that said they didn't get anything warm and spicy. the notes that come through the most for me are the ginger, green carnation, olibanum and white jasmine. that hint of spiciness, creamy sandlewood with that floral melony freshness gave the dry down a masculine edge. the bergamot, citrus blossom and sea notes give the opening of the fragrance an airiness quality. too me, this is an elegant, spicy, fresh, citrusy floral. emphasis on the spice. because of that, i would wear this on cooler days, or a date night. very warm, cozy, comforting, curled up with a good book scent.

One can easily picture Oscar draped in this rich, floral bouquet—elegant yet expressive. The dry-down evokes a softer echo of Patricia de Nicolaï’s Patchouli Intense—less assertive, but no less compelling. Best worn when channeling your inner Romantic poet. I agree with Luna2025 - can't wait to try Malmaison Encore.

Oscar Wilde would have wanted a more fragrant carnation. Yes, I finally sprung for a bottle, and mercifully Floris' website is selling 10ml bottles. So far at least, I can barely smell this. It's there when I drag my nose across the veins in my wrists, but it's weak and powdery. And Floris knows how to make a great carnation scent; they've made the fabulous Malmaison in various versions for 6 decades that I know of, and could certainly make a slightly lighter one with more woody notes. The world might even be clamoring for it, at least a small part of the world. I expect more, with any scent, but especially one they've attached Oscar Wilde's name to. If Floris wants to attract the literary/artist/theatre/gay men crowd, they'll need to do better than this.

I find myself struggling to enjoy modern Floris releases, which is strange because a lot of them seem to hold elements I enjoy in perfume: good quality materials and a subtle sophistication to them, and yet they feel flat and boring. Wilde is just another example of this. It’s a fresh, modern interpretation of carnation. The carnation accord itself is very dry and powdery, almost papery but with a distinctive warm clove-like note. An element of fresh spice and a green leafiness add to it until it feels like you’re smelling the plant as a whole. It’s not a bad fragrance at all, it smells well made and thought-out, but I just find myself feeling bored of it sadly. When it comes to Floris, I’ll stick to the stuff they made 100+ years ago.

It's not wild(e), it's just old-fashioned. Is it the carnation? Or the jasmine? Definitely not the kind of "freshness" I would appreciate on a hot summer's day. I can imagine Oscar Wilde wearing/daring to wear this in the 19th century. But I would have wished for a 21st century dandy interpretation. Also, in contrast to Wilde, the person, the fragrance itself is very "quiet" and sits close to the skin.

A tough one for me. I can see the artistic vision and I can appreciate it, but on me, this smells like pure clove in the beginning. As time passes, the clove dimishes and florals come to the forefront. Ultimately feels quite unisex and maybe even female-leaning. I could never wear this, but I can see how many will love this to bits.

The opening notes reminded me (surprisingly) of whisky. The dry down leaves behind a woody and spicy ginger scent that isn’t too overpowering. I feel this is more a fragrance that is to be worn in the autumn and winter months.

Light but nice. A barely there, low sillage, hint of powdery floral, then a bit of woody musk and clove. It was long lasting and lovely. For someone who just wants a hint of fragrance perhaps?

Got a sample of this when I bought 007. It opens with a melon fresh vibe similar to CK Escape to my nose. This quickly fades and becomes a bouquet of glazed fruit salad and flowers. The fruits are juicy and sweet and sit as a backdrop to the florals which remind me of my grandmother's pot-pourri bathroom freshener from the 80's/90s. Smells like old lady to me. Nothing warm spicy here. Just fresh and fruity for 5 minutes then pot-pourri for the remainder. Nothing masculine here. Wilde? More like Oscar Wilde's granny eating a honeydew melon on a toilet seat in freshly cleaned bathroom sprayed with glade flowery air freshener. I'm sure it's well blended and full of quality ingredients but can't imagine who would want to wear this. Sorry Floris, not for me.

Typically understated Floris fragrance. Too understated. Wilde is a Citrus Aromatic Amber Floral (for lack of a more appropriate genre characterization) but it seems the notes are kind of waterlogged, and so just can't project. Spraying on test blotter first, it came across as more feminine, with the jasmine manifesting stronger. But actually wearing it, it all seems much more unisex. Earthy accords, not represented in the accord stack on this page, seem to manifest as much as anything else. But again, all watered down. I guess the sea notes contribute to that. So this seems like more of a muted cologne. It's a nice scent, but not one with a lot of vibrancy.

After reading the reviews I did not expect to love it this much! Floris can do no wrong! This to me, evoke a scene of Oscar Wilde walking down the beach of Brighton, the smell of his perfume mingled with the sea breeze. Totally unisex, beautiful and romantic. Now i’m excited to try the Floris perfume he wore during his lifetime: Malmaison Encore.

I've been intrigued by this one for ages and finally got to try it at a friends place! On me it smells like cloves and cardemum, but the background of florals and amber keeps it from going full on christmas. Not sure if I love it? But I certainly want to try it again!

I wonder if it will be a green-leaning carnation?... I'd love that, as Oscar Wilde allegedly wore a green carnation in his lapel...

On my skin I get absolutely no warmth whatsoever. Definately a soft powdery aquatic that leans unisex/masculine. Good, not great.

It smells so weird. It smells like biting raw ginger.
